Nick was in a great mood after that last dance with Leona, even though it had left him parched and subjected his newest friend to scathing scrutiny of his fans that were attending the ball. Leona tilted her head curiously at the mention of his sport of choice. "Ice.... Skating?" She asked, unable to fathom what he meant other than literally, but in doing so she couldn't understand how dancing helped other than to possibly keep balance as you wobbled haphazardly across the ice. "How does one compete in such an event?" Frankly it sounded something akin to the ridiculous log rolling competitions she'd heard about, but she didn't want to insult Nick's craft before learning what it was.
As strange as the concept of ice skating was, Leona followed Nick to an empty table and smiled appreciatively as he offered her and Isolde their seats. "I must admit..... I don't recognize the food that our hosts offer. It is difficult to decide what I shall eat." Leona suggested, taking a sip of her water as she looked over at the seemingly endless buffet. The food was exotic, to say the least. She was a simple woman with simple experiences when it came to food. Comparatively, the spread before her seemed.... excessive, to say the least. No meal on the table comprised of a single course, they either had sauces and garnishes or were a mixture of things, it was never just meat with peas and potatoes, it was a smoked ham sliced and arranged into flowers with olives and cheeses and stuffing. It was just as overwhelming as Leona had felt the moment she'd woken up into this strange world. "Doest thee have any suggestions...?" She asked, looking to Nick with an expression that pleaded for some guidance so that she didn't look as uncouth here as she felt.

Nick wasn't too surprised when Leona seemed unfamiliar with ice skating. He still wasn't sure what era she might hail from, but he had a feeling that activities such as ice skating and dancing might not have been something she would have normally had exposure to, as a captain. "Mm! It is a sport vhere you vear skates - like boots but vith blades on the bottom - out onto the ice, and perform. Like dancing." he did his best to explain it to her, more than willing to elaborate. While he was no longer a competitive skater, he still loved his time out on the ice. "I'll take you ice skating some day, ja? It vill be fun." Nick smiled at her, rather liking the idea. It was always more fun with someone else.
After they were seated, Leona made a comment about the food being offered here. Hmm... that's right. Given that she was a captain of a guard, it was unlikely such dishes were normal to her. And it's not like a fancy place like this was just going to have a stew or something simple. Everything was high-end. "Ah... vell..." he started to say, trying to think of what to say about how difficult it would be to figure out what to eat. Unfortunately, he was cut off by his communicator buzzing and alerting him to a message. It was his publicist, the ever vigilant Mallory Hayes. Message from Mallory:WHAT ARE YOU DOING. [3 Attachments] Nick sighed at the message, opening up the attachments to see three pictures of him with Leona, dancing. It seemed his fans moved fast. At least they were great pictures. Reply to Mallory:I am attending the gala, like you told me to. I am just having fun with a friend. Reply from Mallory:I'm going to have to ask you to define 'fun', and that 'fun' better not involve you removing your clothes. Nick had a strong urge to face-palm, but resisted. Mal could be a bit overbearing at times, but he knew she was a good person with her heart in the right place. She just had a job to do. Reply to Mallory:Platonic fun. I have no such intentions. Reply from Mallory:It better be. Don't do anything stupid. And like that, the short and silent conversation ended over his device, allowing Nick to return his attention to Leona. First though, he wanted to show her the pictures. "Ah~ sorry about that. but look! Here are some photos of us!" he smiled, leaning over with his device to show her the pictures. Only the pictures though. She had no need of seeing the messages.
Leona's request for a suggestion on what to get to eat was still a topic on the table once he had finished up with Mallory. "As far as food goes, I alvays go with what looks good. Hmm... if you feel uneasy, perhaps veal parmigiana? I'll show you vhich it is." he offered his suggestion. Pasta dishes were always good, at least in his opinion. Though his mind was actually on the deserts that were available. Was that ... apfelstrudel?

It gives the knights some relief and friendly competition to look forward to amidst this dismal war." Leona sighed, but her withering expression didn't last long as she resolved to get to her point. Nick soon grew distracted by the device on his wrist, and while Leona was certainly curious, she quietly sipped her water and waited patiently for Nick to continue when he was finished. With the mild interruption over, Nick resumed to answer Leona's question regarding food choices, suggesting she try veal parmigiana. With Nick's reassurance though, she served herself a plate to start with along with some potatoes and strange looking fruit arrangements. She also intentionally avoided the table of drinks, figuring that sticking to her water—and in addition, not tempting Nick—was best. Nevertheless, when she moved to start heading back to their table, she noticed Nick pouring himself some champagne. "Nikolaus... I must ask you to desist, for your own sake." This was what he asked of her, and she was sticking to it.

I vould love to have you show me the tournaments you are used to! Ah, ice skating is something all around the vorld, though my hometown is very vell suited for it." he replied quite energetically.
The interruption involving Mallory was brief, concluding with him showing photos of him and Leona dancing. He shifted as she grabbed his wrist to see the device better. "A photo is like... Ah! Yes! Like a painting! But it is more exact, and is made instantly with a device." Nick struggled at first to come up with an explanation for the photos he was showing her. She seemed perplexed at his coil - the communication device on his wrist. He tried to think of a way to describe how it worked, and thankfully Isolde cut in to offer an explanation. It was certainly less complicated than any answer he could have offered, so he left it at that.
They both got up together to approach the buffet, where Nikolaus pointed out the veal parmigiana, as well as letting her know what each thing was that she didn't recognize or know. He himself picked a stuffed veal cutlet paired with steamed vegetables. Of course, the dish was then adorned with an apple strudel - he just couldn't resist the pastry. Speaking of resisting... Leona caught him pouring a small glass of champagne. "Oh... vell, it'd be a vaste to not take it now, though. This vill be my only glass tonight, I give you my vord." He replied, not having even filled the glass completely. Surely the barely-half full glass wouldn't do any harm with his meal. He then continued to the table with Leona, setting down the glass and his plate before taking a seat. Nick hoped that him having a small amount of champagne with his meal wouldn't insult Leona; he didn't intend to undermine his excuse for bringing her along to this ball.

A quick survey showed that there were many guests dining on all sorts of decadent meals. Definitely a step up from jail, chow, for sure, he thought. The coordinator felt his stomach involuntarily growl at the prospect of food; it would seem his team wasn't the only one that was hungry that evening. "Well then, let us find a table, Ms. Stonewall," he said with renewing geniality.
A fair-sized table was surprisingly solitary, with plenty of space for the two humans, as well as the Poke'mon they might have between them. He went ahead and released his team, and sent a quick telepathic note to Susan who translated the info to the team. Okey dokey, everybody! We's gonna eat, but we's gotta be on best bee-havers!...Well, Susan don't know if Riptide get metal foods...Mebbe they gots fishies, Beltigre.Hey! Susan no know! Susan hungree too! Before Susan could get more frustrated, Meloetta quickly interrupted. C'mon, little Poke'mon, it's time to eat a meal today~ But be polite, no need to fight, we'll all get our fill, if you do as I say~ With the melody Poke'mon's little tune, the rest of the team quickly followed suit, as the song was catchy. They all took their own seats at the table, an attentive waiter and waitress quickly placing silk-draped booster seats for the shorter Poke'mon.
Austin would do the gentlemanly thing and pulled out Tamara's seat for her before sitting down himself. And then, it was time to order some meals. "Let's see...Beltigre will have the Basculin fillet, Duchess will have the sirloin, medium rare. The vegetarian platter for Buns and Meloetta...Ah, yes, the spaghetti for Susan (Skettis?! Susan loves Sketti!), oh, and if at all possible, Riptide would enjoy any old silverware you plan to discard. And I'll have...the steak dinner. Medium." The waiter didn't even raise an eyebrow at all the requests, and only uttered a polite "Very well, sir. And for the lady?"

Leona smiled as Nick seemed enthused by the idea of joining her for tournament going. It was certainly an exciting prospect. Tournaments were frequently the talk of the town. Who wouldn't get excited by knights gearing up for jousting and sword fighting? It was an excellent display of skill. Nick seemed equally excited about his ice skating though, which he insisted was something hosted around the world. "Ah... How strange it is then that I've never heard of it." She didn't think her area was quite that out of date with the times, but then again everything around her as of late seemed to contradict that. In just a single day she had seen machines made of metal that she had never even dreamed of crafting, that could do things that she didn't know were possible. It all seemed so foreign, and yet she thought that her kingdom was rather advanced with the latest and greatest in technology. "And where is thy hometown, ser?" Leona inquired curiously.
Their attention turned to the pictures that Nick showed her of them dancing, getting explanations from both Nick and Isolde as to how such a thing might come about. Neither were entirely accurate, given that Leona wasn't in a frame of mind to accept the truth just yet, but it would satisfy her curiosity for now.
They approached the buffet soon after, choosing their dishes and making their way back to the table. Though Leona was amused that Nick went straight for a serving of what appeared to be a pastry of some kind after getting his main course, she also noticed that he had a glass champagne and quickly tried to turn him away from it. Leona wanted to insist that he probably should try to refrain from having any drink at all, but he had only requested that she keep him from having too many, so while she was personally of an opinion against alcohol entirely, she'd respect his wishes. "Very well, but be warned--I am a strict guardswoman and you did request me to restrain your drinking habits, so I will not hesitate to do so." Leona insisted, but Nick promised this would be his only glass, and she would hold him to it. He did suggest that his rambunctious behavior only tended to occur after too many drinks. The problem was, how many was too many? Leona didn't know him well enough to be the judge of that. Still, she supposed a single glass couldn't hurt.
They moved to return to their table, and Leona proceeded to try her veal parmesan. "Oh.... This is quite good." Leona commented with pleasant surprise, a small smile crossing her face. "Thank you for the suggestion." In the meantime, Isolde had plate of small meatballs on toothpicks, berries, and other little bites that she could share with Viktoria so that she didn't have to try and use cutlery. The lucario seemed to quite enjoy holding the alolan vulpix in her lap and feeding her, something Leona found interesting, but didn't speak on. Which berries suit thee best, dear Viktoria? Isolde asked curiously with a pleased smile. At this rate she seemed so enamored with Viktoria that she might spoil her as much as Nick probably did.

Lia winced as Leo pointed out that they'd just met Vince so it was difficult to have faith in the man. "...I know, it's just....." She fidgeted. It was always easier for her to trust others that it was for Leo. "I know we just met him, but can just hear his heart so clearly.... It's..." She hesitated and looked both pained and sad. She'd always been more sensitive to the emotions of those around her, both human and pokemon. "Humans may not be a great species, but their hearts don't lie. If you'd just listen, you'd hear it...." The pain, the sadness, the hope, the love. They were so strong, a storm raging inside of Vince that one might not see at first glance given his subdued exterior, but Lia could hear it crying out, and being the bleeding heart that she was, wanted to help Vince calm that storm. Unfortunately, it seemed that Vince's heart was so loud that Lia was having difficulty hearing Leo's own. He was hurt by her suspicions, insisting that he'd just wanted to help them get money, and Lia wilted, feeling somewhat ashamed as Leo excused himself to go outside.
She started to try and stop him, but hesitated, letting him go out the doors. She didn't mean to suspect his intentions, she knew Leo wasn't bad, obviously. She just wished he didn't judge humans so viciously when, if he just tuned in to their emotions a bit more, he'd know that some of them weren't as bad as he assumed. It was a constant point of disagreement and tension between them. Lia tuned into people's emotions, where as Leo payed more attention to compassionate spirits like Olivia's. With a huff, Lia bolted out the door, catching Leo in a hug from behind before he got too far. "I'm sorry....... I'm sorry......" She sniffled, clinging closely to him. She didn't like it when they fought like this.

Vince chuckled lightly in amusement as Olivia suggested that their current company probably wouldn't approve of her arriving in slacks and a t-shirt. "Fair enough, but that's their loss. Few can understand the beauty that is a combinations of both comfort and style in such outfits." He suggested, tapping his forehead and shaking his head as if he were the final word on fashion and vogue. "Though, you're also suggesting they sold such things at a contest hall, which I'm pretty sure they don't. And I would know, since you and Yue dragged me all over that store looking for this tux." He teased, clearly having no real issue with having been subjected to such a thing.
Vince nearly choked as Olivia suggested his post-valentines picnic sounded suspiciously romantic. "N......N-no..... That's not.... Er....." Vince stammered. That hadn't been his intention, he'd just wanted to have that camp out that she wanted, and cook together again. That was all, yet he felt rather flustered by the suggestion which suggested that maybe it was true and he just hadn't been aware of it himself. He certainly wasn't opposed to it being romantic per se, just..... Well... It was complicated, to say the least. Vince rubbed his face as if it would remove the redness from his tan cheeks and promised that he had no intentions of getting drunk, even though he had just chugged his glass. It was simply a tradition he felt like following. Olivia had a good point about teleporting under the influence though. "Ugh.... Yes, you're quite right. It's a dizzying enough experience as is without alcohol." He frowned, though he generally felt psychic sickness for other reasons..... He smiled a bit though as Olivia agreed to toasting later to enjoying themselves. "....Yes.... I'd..... Like that...." He admitted, feeling strangely warm and fuzzy.
At least, he did until Ducky came crashing in with his hugs and pet names, eliciting little more than distain from Vince. "Don't be ridiculous. I have a life and a goal to accomplish; I don't go brooding in caves, unless it's in the dragon's den, because then inevitably I'm being lectured endlessly about friendship by the old fool." Vince rolled his eyes. He normally wouldn't be so openly badmouthing the dragon master, but with a few drinks and Olivia's comforting presence he seemed to be more relaxed and open to speaking his mind. He looked mildly offended at Ducky's other insinuations, blushing with irritation and embarrassment but saying little on the subject. He was no flirt like Jian, but.... "Honestly.....! You act like I haven't been romantically involved before. I'm not Keiichi, I just don't go falling all over the first pretty girl I lay eyes on." He insisted, the latter part of the sentence stated with a somewhat accusing glance at the other male. He wouldn't be surprised if he found out Ducky ended up hitting on Wei before discovering she was his sister.
Speaking of which, Wei seemed to be dazed and lost amid the sea of people surrounding them, easily getting bumped into due to her petite stature. She appeared grateful for Vince's help, insisting that she just needed some time to adjust. He nodded in sympathy and understanding, suggesting they move elsewhere to talk. Ducky also seemed rather eager to move, though not entirely for Wei's sake, having ulterior motives for drinks but also so that they could discuss Wei's mysterious heritage and disappearance. Wei did seem to recall being told that she was left at a monastery, but that her family lived in Johto. It was difficult for Vince to imagine Mrs. Koizumi abandoning her child like that though. He knew Ducky's parents were in a rough situation, but.... They kept Nao-chan after all, so why give Wei up? Given Ducky's reaction and insistance that the situation was complicated and they should discuss elsewhere though, Vince didn't ask further for now, deciding he best wait until they moved to the banquet hall.
As Olivia and Ducky introduced themselves, Vince stiffened and gave Ducky a look as he mentioned his clan. He hadn't told Olivia about the clans yet and he didn't intend to, at least not in a crowded place like this. Just because the Suanni's were a fairly neutral clan didn't mean Ducky should go blabbering about his allegiances, especially when it naturally called Vince's own into question, and with tensions between the Yazi and Baxia, he didn't exactly want to draw attention to it. Vince bit the inside of his cheek and subconsciously fiddled with the cuff of his sleeve on his left arm, tugging it further down. Thankfully Olivia didn't seem to question much more into it, and Vince could only hope it stayed that way, for her sake and his.
Ducky's fangirling was.... Well, it brought about a mix of emotions in Vince. Embarrassment, disbelief, irritation... He wasn't that much of a loner, and telling Olivia to take care of him? He could take care of himself perfectly well. Olivia played along, obviously joking as she suggested Vince was a handful, but it still dealt another blow to his ego as he pouted in silent protest. Arceus..... "Are you sure you haven't made your toasts already? You're acting like a furisode girl." He suggested irritably, only growing more annoyed as Ducky decided that this was something worth celebrating. "Ducky....!" Vince growled, greatly embarrassed. Ducky was practically ignoring everything he said, even when Olivia herself clarified that they really weren't together romantically. Olivia wasn't "his lady", and even if she was, she certainly wasn't the first, and Ducky knew that but he was still acting like it'd be a miracle for Vince to be dating anyone, which was just adding insult to injury. Vince swore Ducky was just doing everything he could to humiliate him, but it was too late to stop the suanni now. Ducky was already waltzing into the banquet hall and heading right for the bar, leaving Vince little choice but to follow in after him. "Would you please stop?" Vince hissed once he'd caught up. If Ducky was already acting this childish while sober, Vince dreaded what might happen if he started drinking. Hell, if this continued, Vince would need to start drinking more himself, despite what he promised Olivia.
Actually, he plopped down at the bar, leaving a seat between himself and Ducky as insurance before waving the bartender over for a beer. He wasn't drunk enough for this and his anxiety was slowly shooting through the roof as he began screaming internally, wishing he could just bury himself right about now.
Yue followed the group into the banquet hall with her sister and the twin ralts, smiling a bit sympathetically at Vince. He really seemed to be having a hard time, but.... Frankly, he needed this. As much as he hated it, this strange sort of bonding with Ducky would be healthy for him so long as he continued to endure it and accept it as a sign of Ducky's care for him rather than blowing up. Yue promised herself to continue monitoring that just in case. "You'll be alright, Vince. Just breathe and don't take his jesting too seriously. He's just teasing you because he's happy you've made a friend." Vince mentally grumbled incoherently in response, but seemed to reluctantly accept her words of wisdom as he sipped on his beer.
With Vince (probably?) placated, Yue turned her attention back to her own reunion, nodding regrettably as Lucina informed her that Ezra wasn't here, rather she was traveling with Ducky as a favor for him. "Ah.... I see. That's too bad.... I would have liked to see him again." She smiled sadly. She was sure they would encounter each other again in the future though. She frowned as Lucina also adamantly insisted that she didn't plan on getting friendly with Vince, given the pain he'd caused Ezra. "But... I don't believe that pain was intentional. Ezra never held it against Vince. I think we ought to know the whole story before judging him." As they moved into the banquet hall, Yue inquired a bit more of the twin ralts, nodding as they confirmed they were twins too, and that Yue and Lucina were the first pair they'd met so far. "It is an unusual set of circumstances, so I'm not surprised we're the first you've seen." Yue nodded sagely, though Fen seemed to have offended Lan Se with her comment on not being inverted colors. "Now now.... She said she didn't mean it like that, let's not hold any grudges. I think you both look absolutely darling~ I agree though, not all twins are inverted palettes like yours. Lucina and I simply bear similar resemblance to one another. I believe that is how twins tend to be identified." She explained.

The more she watched the three interact, mostly Ducky and Vince, the more Wei began to reflect on her own relationship with the boys she'd grown up with back at the temple. Vince seemed very angry with Ducky because of his teasing, but was doing nothing... serious to stop him. Words only said so much, it was actions that spoke volumes. She wondered if he didn't secretly like Ducky's... obnoxiousness. Likely not, but it was a fun thought, and it did help her feel a bit better about being in such a crowded place. Listening to the two boys continue on, Wei followed after them at Olivia's side until they reached the banquet hall. The boys were quick to go to the bar. Wei sat down between Vince and Ducky, thinking perhaps she could ease the tension between the two boys a small bit by doing so. A part of her felt... wrong for doing so, but it would feel odd now to get up and move.
When the bartender came by to take their order for drinks, Wei looked beyond him feeling instantly flustered at not knowing what any of that stuff was. "I'll have the same." She blurted out, motioning towards Vince, as he'd been the last to order. It wasn't until the drink finally came that she didn't realize the mistake she'd made. The golden liquid looked like honey, but it smelt horrible. Still, she'd ordered it... might as well try it. It wasn't like the monks were against alcohol. Taking a sip, she felt instantly sick to her stomach. Placing the beer back down on the bar, she forced the small sip she'd taken down her throat, huffing lightly afterward in an attempt not to gag.

Both of the twins were sort of lost on the whole 'Ezra' business the Gardevoir twins kept bringing up. It seemed they both thought fondly of this... human? But Lucina didn't seem to care for Vince as much as Yue. The twins both looked at one another at this time, feeling what one another was thinking. Their previous owner... at first, Fen was willing to believe he'd change, that he'd get better once he'd realized how bad he was being, but Lan Se was and still is convinced he is a bad person through and through. Despite how many times Fen had shown his new attitude after Wei had got a hold of him, Lan Se's stance never faltered, and it likely wouldn't for a long time.
Fen nodded when Yue came to her defense. Lan Se turned her gaze back towards her sister and rolled her eyes. "Alright, I get what you're saying." She replied, though her tone didn't seem entirely like she was convinced. Fen shook her head, smiling lightly. Her sister could be a big ol' stick in the mud sometimes. "Well, anyway. We think you both look really pretty." Lan Se stepped up to her sisters side shaking her head. "I think they get it, Sister. You're sounding like a broken record." It was Fen's turn to pout as she glanced over to her sister. Though and through, the twins were very much like children, but in the end they were also sisters. "You're sounding like a stick in the mud." Fen grumbled.
