A Special Gift

"Vye, come in here, please. I need to speak with you." Paen called from their little home in Astral City.

The man owned a dojo which was in the front of the home, one door leading to a large wooden floored room with mirrors on one wall, pads along another, and multiple stations for various training purposes spread throughout. Vyren Khoe, his apprentice and dear friend's son, was on his way to becoming a great Dovaa. He was young and fiery, but he needed to have a strong upbringing with the life that he was already given. Paen was the only one to do that.

Vyren hated being called from training for any purposes. Paen knew that once Vye was in the dojo, he would come in when his own personal training was complete.

"What is it? You know I have to train before I meet with Master Ysaride. What could be more important then that?" the little apprentice spoke, crossing his arms, wide eyes on his trainer.

"I have a gift for you. Something your mother would want you to have. I think that it's finally time you receive it. You're training day and night, Vye. The best fighters know when to take a break. Now go sit down and I will grab it for you." he said, pointing to the couch in the living room as he left for his bedroom down the hall.

Vyren sighed and rolled his eyes after Paen had left the room, yet obeying the command. Sitting down, he looked up at the ceiling. 'But father wouldn't stop training...he would continue going. Never stop...that's what he always told me.' the boy thought to himself with a shake of his head.

Finally, the older man arrived back from the bedroom with a present in his hands. Wrapped in cloth and tied on one end, Paen placed it in Vye's open hands.

It was somewhat heavy, for being rather medium sized, maybe it was made of metal. He pulled the ribbon from the top and the cloth fell down, exposing the top, a glistening handle. The boy pulled the cloth fully away to reveal the entire present. It was a dagger, a special dagger at that. "Wow. It's really pretty." he said, indigo eyes wide as he looked the sheath over and slowly pulled the dagger from it, revealing the ever-glistening metallic blade within.

"Your mother gave that to me when you were born. She told me to hold onto it, and give it to you when I thought you were ready. It's been in her family for generations. It's got the mark of the Firani on it, denoting the Firani lineage that runs through your blood. It's imbued with specific magic to capture some of the magical energies of the Firani's fire, allowing you to set the blade on fire with a quick snap of your fingers. Every Dovaa in the Maeth family has been Firani, and you are no different, as you've told me you want to be like your parents, choosing the Firani clan. Your mother would be so proud of you, Vyren. As am I and your father." the man said, looking down at the boy with a smile.

"I'll cherish it forever. Thank you, Paen." the boy said, getting up and taking the dagger straight back to the dojo to train some more.

The man sighed as he went to the door's opening to the dojo and watched the boy unsheathe the dagger and swing it about some, adding it into his training regimen.

Meeting Brand and Estelle

In the cold winter months of Magesc, the grand majestic dragon, Kalyth sent magic throughout the land. From that magic grew large beautiful eggs. They sprouted forth from the ground and were meant to remind Magesc of the power and beauty that abound in the world around.

Vyren knew that it was time to head out of the place he called home in order to grow in strength. The Celestial Plane was an amazingly beautiful place. But Vye's adventurous and curious side took over time and time again until he realized that going to the lands of Magesc was his only real option left.

Sure, he knew that he had to still go meet with Marcus to choose his clan; but he wanted to experience Magesc already. Marcus was always so busy to meet with him and he couldn't wait any longer. He had to get away from Paen, as much as he cared for the man who was always there for him, he just needed some air. The caregiver was always busy with one thing or another and when he wasn't, he was telling Vye what to do and when to do it. It was just time to explore on his own, get away for a bit, and examine the world.

Paen had always told him never to leave the confines and safety of the Celestial Plane until he had at least chosen his clan with Marcus; but that day was not soon approaching and the wait was killing him. Vyren had been practicing day in and day out with his dagger and he felt at least somewhat confident in his ability to protect himself out in the world.

The course was set; and Vyren had gathered a few minor supplies and left the house without even alerting Paen. He wouldn't be gone too terribly long, he imagined. Maybe just for the night if even that long.

After a few moments of waiting, it was finally his turn to use the portals. His first choice: Serenia. He had heard that the Orderites were a "more gentle people" and decided that if he did have to fight anyone there, he would rather it be someone who isn't instantly going to go off on him for no reason.

A few seconds later, he opened his eyes to see the beauty that was Magesc for the first time in his entire life. The Celestial Plane was beautiful, but Serenia seemed to be just as beautiful. Looking down, he saw the beautiful green, lush field sprinkled with light ice and snow in the morning air. It was chilly, yet he found himself enjoying the view.

The field also contained quite a few growing plants -- the Fae eggs. Going around to each of them, he touched a few and noticed how beautiful they were. He made his way through the field to a little spot underneath a tree at the start of the massive Aurinead forest. There, he looked up into the beautiful golden leaves that were plentiful and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Hours later, the Dovaa awoke, night was already upon him and the chilly air was getting colder and colder. Vyren quickly jumped up and began to rub his arms. The frigid air was cooling at a rapid pace. Before he could do anything, the Dovaa looked to see two beautiful Fae eggs at his feet. They both almost seemed to glow as though they were calling for him within. He plucked the red egg first and it instantly cracked. Scared that he had done something wrong, he quickly put it back down only to see it crack again and again until finally, a little Fae Dragon appeared from within. It's large eyes looking up at the boy who had released him from his cage. A cooing noise came from within the broken egg and a bright smile appeared on the boy's face.

"Hehe! Wow, what are you?! You're so handsome, just like me!" the boy said with a smile, leaning down to pick up his new pet.

The dragon cooed and then looked down at the other, white egg on the ground, then looked back at the boy once again.

Vyren, puzzled by the dragon's behavior, also looked down at the white egg and smiled. He picked up that egg as well and it cracked once also, then again, and again in his arms, until the white Fae Dragon peered out from within the broken shell.

He smiled as the red dragon flew up to his shoulder and looked down at the white one. The white Fae Dragon then also fluttered up to the boys other shoulder.

All Vyren could do was giggle and laugh at the scene.

"You are both mine now, huh? Well, I think I'll give both of you guys a name then. Hmmm..." he said aloud, pondering the names he should give his new companions.

"I know! You'll be named Brand because you remind me of a dark fire. And you'll be Estelle because you remind me of the stars."

Both dragons cooed at the mention of their new names. The proud Dovaa held both of his new companions in his arms and walked into the Orderite's capital city. Ashen City.

The Firani Dovaa

Pacing throughout the home, Vye was impatiently awaiting the arrival of Paen, who was to take him to see Master Marcus Ysaride. The Dovaa had waited a mere thirty minutes and was already annoyed."Where the hell is he!?" the boy called, looking out the front windows. He clutched the dagger by his side. If only his papa was here to witness what had happened to him a mere week prior with the Ysali; he would be so proud.

One day he would show his father how much he's really worth. The power that he contains. Especially because of his plans to become a Firani. Even more pride irradiated from the boy's face. If only his father was around to witness his growth. Paen would have to do, however.

Creak. Bam.

"Ugh, finally! Paen, what took you so long!?" he said, crossing his arms with a look of utter annoyance on his face as he walked to the front door.

The old Dovaa rolled his eyes. "Boy, have respect. I was out fetching you something to eat. You need to be have something to eat before you go out to see Ysaride. We have plenty of time before your meeting. Are you ready?" Paen asked, setting down a knapsack on the table full of fruit.

"Of course I am! I've been ready since I was three." the boy stated, hopping upon a stool to grab one of the fruits.

"Good. Nervous?"

"Not at all. I just can't wait to have all the fire power! Haha!"

"Vye, what did we talk about? Choosing the Firani clan is not for power. You have to be one with the fire, learn how to control it, and use it for defense. Don't go and make a fool of yourself." the man said, washing a fruit and taking a bite himself, leaning against the counter with his arm folded underneath the other, legs crossed, watching the boy.

Taking another bite of the fruit, Vye swallowed and then set it down. "Can we go now?" he asked.

Paen chuckled. "Yes, Vye. Lets go."

~~~~~
Clunk. Clunk. Clunk.
"Come in." the booming voice called at the closed door.
Creak.
"Ah, Paen Orestea; nice to see you, old friend." the blue eye'd man said as both Paen and Vyren entered the room.
"Nice to see you again, Marcus. I've brought Vyren Khoe, my student, to talk with you about choosing his clan."
"I see. Well, it's nice to meet you, Vyren. I'm Marcus Ysaride, leader of the Dovaa." the man said, getting up from his seat and holding out a hand to the boy to shake.
Suddenly, nerves overcame Vye as he saw the beautiful man stand up. The man was absolutely gorgeous. Flowing blue-black hair, beautiful blue eyes, amazing horns and his wings were absolutely stunning. "Y-yeah! N-nice to meet you, too!" he said, taking the man's cool hand in his own to shake a moment. "So...uhh...when do I get to use fire?" the boy asked directly after letting go of the man's hand.
The man smirked at the boy's nerves. He had to deal with this constantly. First of all, it was meeting someone new; secondly, they were nervous about which clan to choose and how it would feel; and finally, they were meeting with the 'most powerful Dovaa'. Marcus could totally understand the feeling that overcame most newcomers to his office. "Firani -- the fire clan -- that is your choice than?" the man asked, walking towards his cabinet full of large orbs and small, brightly shining orbs.
"Y-yessir. Th-that's the clan of the Khoe family. Strong Firani." he said, swallowing the lump in his throat.
Paen smirked and patted the boys shoulder a bit.
"Very well, meet me in the courtyard outside in half an hour. I will be there with a prepared Firani Orb." he said, smiling.
Both Vyren and Paen nodded as they left the room, closing the large door behind them.
~~~~~~

"Where is he?" the impatient young Dovaa asked.

"Patience, Vye. Marcus is a busy man. He's probably preparing your orb." the man responded, looking off over the grounds.

A large sigh was emitted by the boy. He hated waiting, almost as much as he hated people who think low of him. The boy paced a bit, back and forth, waiting and watching for the Peisio Dovaa to come out to the courtyard.

Finally the time came. The Peisio weld a large red orb as he walked towards the two. Vyren's eyes lit up with excitement as he literally jumped for joy, a moment before realizing that his nerves were creeping up on him once more.

"Alright, Vyren, are you prepared to accept the Firani Clan as your own?"

"Y-yessir! Yes I am."

"Take the orb in your hand, and crush it anyway you wish." the man said, handing over the orb to the child.

Vyren took the large orb, which seemed to be bigger than his whole head, and watched the swirling red and orange magic within. It represented fire and he couldn't wait to properly be able to use such magic.

The boy counted down from ten in his head and on zero, he squeezed as hard as he could, breaking the barrier between him and all that Firani magic. He felt a rush of fiery power overcome him. His eyes transformed to a deep red, his hair was stricken with a red streak, and even some of his scales turned from black to red across his body. As he exhaled, he could sense the heat within himself. So this is what it felt to be a Firani Dovaa? The power was extreme and he couldn't wait to practice.

Vyren snapped his fingers a few times, creating sparks of flame within his hands. He was totally enthused about the entire process being over.

"There you are, young one. Congratulations." the Master said.

Vyren bowed graciously and Paen escorted him away and all that could be heard was the snapping of the boy's fingers and the small flash of flickering light from the tips.

A Gift From Paen

Upon his return home from adventuring, Paen called the boy into the kitchen for dinner. "You've been out adventuring a lot lately. How have you been doing with your dragon hunting, young one?" he asked, taking a bite of the meal he had prepared for the two of them; a beautiful blend of spices and herbs with dragon tongues and veggies, Vyren's favorite meal.

One sign that the boy was displeased with himself is that he ignored the question altogether. "Pass the spice." he retorted.

The old Dovaa raised a brow, but did as the youngster commanded. "So, you haven't defeated many, huh? It's alright, you'll get better. It takes time." he said taking a bite.

"Who said I didn't defeat any!?" Vye yelled, narrowing his eyes as he glared at his trainer in disgust.

"Don't you be going and getting an attitude with me, boy. I merely said you haven't defeated many. I can tell by the way you're acting right now that it's the truth. No need to be ashamed of any-" he began, but was interrupted by the boy.

"I'm not ashamed! I've killed a dragon, I have the orb to prove it. They just keep running away from me. Probably because they're scared I will kill them; and they're really fast, so I can't catch up." the boy finished, taking one more bite and pushing his plate away, crossing his arms. "I'm full. I'm going to go train some more." he said, getting up out of the chair, ripping the dagger from it's sheath and opening the door to their gym, slamming it behind him.

The man sighed with disappointment as he took yet another bite of his meal. "You'll learn one day, Vye. One day." he said as he continued to eat.

~~~~~
Creak.
"Vye, come in here, I have something for you." Paen said with a warm smile on his face.
Vyren stopped mid swing as he heard the man's voice. He rolled his eyes and agreed to come in, walking right passed the man to sit on the same chair he had sat at for dinner.
"Now, I've collected these for quite some time. I think you should have them. It will teach you more responsibility, as you will need it for using them." he said, holding out a small leather bag to the boy.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Just look."
Vyren untied the leather strap and stuffed his hand into the bag, only to feel a ball of sorts, and another, and another. He then raised a brow and poured the contents all over the table, to view five Firani Dragon Soul Orbs and two Aedaun Tears. The boys eyes widened with surprise as he took in each of the items and picked them all up.
"Th-thanks Paen...this is...really nice." he said, picking the pieces back up and placing them delicately into the bag again. It was a shock that he was being kind to the boy after the way he was treated during mealtime. Nevertheless, Vyren was actually grateful and appreciated the help. These orbs and tears would definitely make him a stronger Dovaa, he could only hope to be as strong as his father one day.
With that, the boy called his day to a close, returning to his room where Brand and Estelle played; he was quite content, finding the perfect hiding spot for his new bag of goodies. It had been an alright day after all.
Orb Turnover
"Vye, I have a question to ask you." Paen called from his bedroom as Vye was in his.
Vyren ran over to Paen's room quickly, being sure to shut the door behind him so that Brand and Estelle wouldn't escape. "What is it?" he asked curiously.
"Have you turned in your dragon orbs to Master Ysaride yet? The date is close approaching. If you don't, you'll have to wait another year before you're recognized as a true Adept. Then you just have to hone your skill a bit more before the ceremony."
Vyren's eyes widened. Had it already been a few months!? Time had flown by and he hadn't even turned in his orbs! "Dammit! No!" he said as he ran back down the hallway to his bedroom to gather the necessary items.
Paen just chuckled to himself and shook his head, folding a bit of laundry as the boy ran out.
~~~~~

"Gotta hurry. Gotta hurry. Gotta hurry." Vyren kept telling himself as he ran down the streets towards the same building he had been to about a month prior for his clan choosing.

He had bumped into who knew how many people as he made his way there. Finally, he arrived at the large door that entered into Marcus Ysaride's office. Vyren could feel his heart beating out of his chest. The man he was about to encounter was so beautiful and powerful, he looked up to him in every way imaginable. Finally, he gathered the courage to knock.

Clunk. Clunk.

"Come in." the booming voice called from inside the room.

Creak.

"Ah, Vyren Khoe, if I remember correctly. You've returned." Marcus stated, looking up from his desk with a smile.

"Y-yessir, I have. Here." the boy responded, walking towards the desk and placing a small leather knapsack onto it.

Marcus raised a brow and opened the bag, smiling as he looked down. "A Ysali and Firani orb, eh? You must have worked really hard to get these." the man said with a slight chuckle.

"Mmm. Yessir." was all he was able to muster.

"Well good. Now I just hope we can have you ready for the ceremony in a couple of days. Go home, get some more practice, and see you then." he said, placing the knapsack to the side of his desk as he went back to doing some work.

With that, Vyren quickly exited. He was so excited to see Ysaride after the few days had passed. He could only imagine how his life would change after becoming an Adept officially. He scurried back home as fast as he could to alert Paen of what he had accomplished.

~~~~~
"So then I handed him the pouch and he told me he would see me in a couple days and that I needed to train a bit more 'til then. Then I left! Isn't that great!?" he said with a grand smile -- quite excited for what the future held.
"That's great, Vyren. Your father will be very proud of you to hear all of this." Paen said with a smile on his face.
Vyren's eyes glistened as Paen talked of his father. Yes, yes he would be proud. The Apprentice smiled and left Paen after a few moments of silence. Just a little more practice, and growth would be upon him.
Last Minute Training
"Hiyah! Yah! Hoo! Rah!" the little Apprentice was huffing out as he made specific movements with his dagger in hand. That was such a special item, the dagger his father saved for him. It was a precious heirloom and he was honored to even hold it in his hands. He had to train, had to ready himself for the the ceremony that was to be taking place in just a day's time. His body was tired, but he knew it was close.
Vyren had done some reading and research on the powerful tears of the dragons. Those tears that were given to him by his trainer, Paen. Consuming them would cause his power to increase tenfold. He had two of them. What was stopping him from taking those tears and crushing their power for him to ingest?
He thought about it a moment. He felt as though maybe he should save them for a special occasion, but what would that be? No, this was a special occasion. His advancement was special. Why not down them both now and feel all the Firani power within? Yes. That's what he would definitely do.
Vyren ran inside from their home gym and found the special bag that had four Firani orbs and two Aedaun tears inside of it. He snatched up the tears and took a deep breath. He placed the bag back in it's special place and ran back into the gym. He sat on the floor, looking over the specimen in his hands. They were shiny and glimmered a bright yellow-gold. They were intriguing and mysterious. They were also said to be quite rare. Hesitation overtook the boy, unsure of what he should actually do. He could use them now or wait for sometime in the future when he could possibly need them more. But now was the perfect time. He glanced at his filled hands, looking deep into the shining, glimmering, mysterious teardrop shaped glass shards. Then he looked up and thought a moment, speaking to himself aloud.
"Paen may be mad, but I need to be strong for tomorrow. Really strong." he said to himself, standing up and taking yet another deep breath. Estelle and Brand fluttered above, nervous as to what would happen next.
Closing his eyes, he took both tears in his right hand and crushed them quickly, awaiting for the power to seize him. Suddenly, flames flew from his hands and he could feel the power enveloping his every muscle, bone, and brain. His hands began to spew fire forth without him being able to stop it. After a few moments of intense fiery spray, the boy fell to the ground in a total lethargic daze. He took deep breaths to catch his breath and he could feel his heart racing within him. That was what it felt like to control tons of fire? That was power. He felt it. A smile grew upon his face, an evil, devious smile. Oh, he was powerful alright. He would show everyone one day. One day.
Beautiful Boy
User Image"You have been training for quite some time, Vye. Why don't you go to town and fetch us some dinner." Paen suggested as he watched the teenager from the door.
With a huff, Vyren stopped what he was doing and looked at Paen. All he could do was roll his eyes and agree. "Fine." he began, "Give me a few minutes to finish up." he finished, going right back to what he was doing.
Paen agreed with a nod of his head and closed the door to the training room.
It had been some time since his graduation to Adept ceremony was held; years in fact. The boy had trained with his dagger and fire abilities every day for countless hours. He had gone to Serenia and Soudul multiple times, all with no luck in finding a dragon. Brand and Estelle were still the same, as always, and would follow him, get him into trouble, and actually save his life just as they had done when he was an Apprentice.
Even though the Firani knew he had a long ways to go until he was ready to be accepted as an Expert, he also knew that his power was growing with every day of training. After all, he did train most of his days in the training room, thus the reason for Paen telling him to get out of the house and fetch dinner.
After a few more minutes of cool down training, he stopped. The sweat pooled on his face as he grabbed a towel and wiped it off. Ah, how he loved the feeling of a good workout when it was complete.
Going inside, he decided it was best to bathe before going out; it was still early afternoon, he had the time. He began to run some of the warm water and made his way into the bathtub. "Ahh..." he moaned as he made his way down into the warm water.
After a lengthy time in the bath, he decided it was best to get ready to go. He put on his general garb and made sure that his dagger was by his side. Taking one last look in the mirror, he smirked at himself and ruffled the collar of his shirt a bit to his liking. He ran a hand through his hair to make sure it was soft to the touch -- the way he liked it. He grabbed his scarf and began to head for the door.
"Paen, I'm out. Be back later." he called with a quick wave of his hand as he walked out the front door.
They lived just within the Astral City limits, so "going to town" wasn't a difficult task whatsoever. He just had to walk a few miles through the town to get to the market where they oftentimes picked up their food for dinner. The streets were cold this time of year, it was the break of spring in the Celestial Plane and it was beginning to warm up; although it wasn't to his liking just yet. The wind picked up and he wrapped his scarf around his neck and folded his arms together as he walked down the street.
Finally, after a thirty minute walk, he made it to the market. The smell of freshly baked bread collided with the scent of cooking dragon's meat as he walked, a basket in hand.
He plucked a few veggies from one vendor and placed down some coin in return. Then he found his favorite baker, whom offered him two fresh loaves of bread. He accepted the offer and moved on. Found himself a vendor with raw and cooked fish from the Serenia and Soudul ports. He found that the raw would be best, as he knew that Paen liked to season the meats himself. Finally, to top it off, he found some raw dragon meat at one vendor at the end, picking that up in a white wrap, he placed it in his cart and his shopping day was finally finished.
The brisk day continued as he made his way back through the market and the many people that were there. His annoyance level was rising with every pedestrian he passed.
As he turned the corner to make it to the main street where he would then continue to walk until he made it home -- THUMP.
"Oof!" escaped a voice as the owner of it spun around a bit to see his assailant.
"Hey! Watch it!" Vyren yelled as he dropped the basket of food to the ground. "Dammit! Look at what you did." he said, instantaneously bending down to begin picking up the lost loaves. The five second rule never hurt anyone, right?
"I-I'm so sorry, sir." the voice spoke as it's owner bent down to help gather Vye's belongings.
Out of the corner of Vyren's eye he saw the beautiful wavy hair of this Dovaa. He glanced up to see a magnificently dressed boy about his age. A Peisio Dovaa by the looks of it, with magical hair, bright blue eyes, a stunning beige single horn, and skin as pale as the moonlight. He looked distraught as he gathered the last few vegetables from the ground and placed them in the basket.
"I-it's fine. Just let me do it." the Firani stated in a brash tone as he pulled the vegetables from the Peisio's hands.
The two stood up at the same time and the boy's look of distraught dissipated into concern. "Again, I'm really sorry. Have a good day." he said with a concerned smile as he turned to walk away.
Vye raised a brow and watched as the boy almost went around the corner. "Hey..." he called. The boy responded by turning around to look him in the eyes from a distance. "Name's Vyren. Vyren Khoe." he stated.
The boy gave a sweet smile. "Well, Vyren Khoe, it was nice running into you." he said with a small laugh as he shook his head and continue walking around the corner.
Vyren gave a look of disgust as he jogged a few steps to look around the corner, seeing the boy's wavy hair disappear into the crowd at the market.
The Firani shook his head and tightened his scarf, beginning his trek back to the house. Surely Paen was awaiting the food; though he didn't need to know about this small inconvenience. The five second rule always applies, after all.
Awakening
TRIGGER WARNING: References to Drunk Minors and the s**t They Do.
A cool breeze swept through the bedroom of the young Dovaa as nightfall was upon the Celestial Plane. Vyren kept his eyes locked onto the ceiling with his arms folded from the comfort of his own bed, contemplating the options he had. He could go to the party -- or he could just sit at home like he did most every other night. He glanced at Brand and Estelle for a moment, who were both sound asleep in their little makeshift beds that he had crafted for them. His attention was focused on the scene that had occurred right after his classes for the day.
~~~

"Hey, you're Vyren, right?" a mysterious yet majestic voice questioned from behind the Dovaa.

The Firani spun around with a raised brow, nodding to affirm the question's accuracy.

"Here." the beautiful girl said with a smile, handing the boy a folded up piece of paper and walking off before allowing him to speak.

Upon opening the gift, he realized it was an invitation to a party at a fellow classmate's home. The parents of said classmate were apparently taking a trip to the lower world and this boy was opening up his home to the public. The letter gave the address at which the party was located and it said in a scribbled font towards the bottom, "Mead and Moonshine for ALL!"

~~~
'I never go out.' the boy thought as he narrowed his gaze at the ceiling above. 'I should, if only just this once.' he confirmed within his mind; and was ready to leave the confines of his home within the hour.
Paen was already in bed, and Vye knew that he had to be home before his guardian awoke the next morning; otherwise there would be hell to pay.
Vyren tiptoed down the hallway, through the kitchen, into the welcoming area, and out the front door all as silently as he could.
The darkness of the outside was eerie to the boy; thus, with a flick of his fingers, a small fireball burst into existence and floated within the boys hand. With a grand and mischievous smirk on his face, he knew exactly where he was headed now.
~~~~~

"Whoo! 'Dis be da best moonshine I ever tast'd!" one of the party-goers called out to the entire crowed as he stood upon the table, goblet in hand.

The entire crowd cheered and roared in agreement to the boy's conclusion.

"Take 'dis, man. I done. I am so done." another said, handing his goblet full of mead to Vyren, who had just arrived to the party.

With a raised brow, he sniffed the drink. "Whoa, that's strong." he said aloud as he blinked his eyes a few times and tried to get the strong stench out of his nostrils.

"That's what you call a good moonshine, friend." a Ysali Dovaa stated with a smile from his leaning position against the wall, taking a sip of his own. "Drink up! Don't let that s**t go to waste, haha!" he said with a chuckle, walking over casually to Vyren's position.

Vyren looked into the goblet and shook his head slightly, closed his eyes, and downed the contents completely in one large swig, coughing and chocking the minute he finished. His eyes began to water and his nostrils burned furiously within.

"Aha! Yeah! That's the spirit. Name's Jax." the Ysali said, holding out a hand to the Firani.

Vyren smirked, grabbing ahold of the hand tightly and shaking just once. "Vyren." he said, letting his hand drop down to his side.

"Vyren, huh?" Jax questioned a moment before turning to the crowd. "Will someone get Vyren here another drink, please! Oh, make it two while you're at it! Heh!" he called to the party, turning his attention back to Vye at the end. "C'mere." he said, walking into a nearby room and sitting down next to a couple of other Dovaa on the couch, patting his hand on the seat next to his.

Vyren smiled and made his way to the seat and sat down, feeling a little relaxed already. Soon after, two more goblets were brought to Jax, who took them both, simply saying, "Thanks." before they nodded and walked off. "Here." he said, handing one of them to Vyren, who willingly took it with a smile and began to drink.

"So, Vyren, welcome to my party. You're a cool guy, I can already tell." he said with a smile.

"This is your party?" Vyren questioned, slightly surprised yet realizing that if his guests actually listened to him that it must have been true.

"Well, of course it is! Parents are gone, it's my time to have fun." he said, holding his goblet out. "To friendship!"

Vyren chuckled and smiled a bit. "To friendship."

Clank. Gulp. Gulp. Gulp.

~~~~~
The night progressed, more drinks were had and people began to pass out wherever they could. Vyren didn't leave Jax's side for a minute the entire night; and Jax didn't mind it one bit.
"I...fink it's time fo' bed." Jax stated, extremely inebriated.
"Ye-...I needa get bed." Vyren responded, rubbing his eyes as he stumbled through the kitchen, stepping over people who had passed out on the floor.
"You can't go! Jus' stay 'ere, please?" The Ysali begged, grabbing ahold of Vyren's arm.
Vyren sighed deeply and looked around, barely able to focus on anything in the room. "F-fine." he said with a hiccup in between.
Jax took the lead, still holding onto Vyren's arm and dragging him through the house until they reached his bedroom. "Told ery'one 'dis room was off limits. Looks like they listened! H-heh!" he said with a laugh as he spun around and fell upon his bed with a thud. "So comfy." he continued as he smiled and wormed his way up to his pillow. He then patted the spot next to him as Vyren stumbled his way in from the doorway and landed face-first onto the empty side of the bed. He then sat up and worked his way to the other pillow and rolled onto his back, lying there next to Jax, looking up, trying to focus on something -- anything.
"You were a lotta fun t'night. We should hang out more often, cutie." the Ysali stated, rolling over on his side to face the Firani with a smile, barely able to prop his head up with his arm.
"I had a lotta fun, too." Vyren said with a growing smile, turning his head to view the full fledged smile on the other boy's face. "W-wait...did you call m-me cu-" was all he could get out before the Ysali lunged forward, lips first, planting them right on the Firani's.
For a split second, Vyren's eyes widened in shock; but in his drunken stupor, closed again as he accepted the kiss and took it to the next level by reaching up and holding onto the Ysali's head, running his hands through the boy's light green and blond hair.
Then -- Blackout.
~~~~~

The room spun as the Firani opened his eyes. His head pounded with pain as the light shown in through the window. He grabbed the sides of his head as he tried to gather his thoughts on what had happened the night before. He set his hand on his chest -- bare? He lifted his head and looked around the room. No one was there. He sat up ever-so-slowly only to realize that he wasn't just shirtless, but he wasn't wearing anything at all. His eyes widened in shock and horror as he slowly got up, wrapping the blanket around him completely. What had happened!? He thought back and realized the last thing he could remember was -- the KISS!? His blood began to boil inside with anger, fear, and complete shame as to what he could have done.

He found his clothes in the bathroom attached to the bedroom and put them on quickly. He splashed water on his face and looked himself over in the mirror. It couldn't be. He didn't. No -- it was only a kiss. Only a kiss. He shook his head in disbelief. He had to leave. He had to get out of there.

As quickly as he could, he made his way quietly through the house, not disturbing any of the still sleeping guests, and left -- never to look back again.
