Avoiding School
 Dear Diary:
Today I left home early so I could ditch school again. Lately it's been really boring, the instructors keep going on about how evil Oblivionites are and how we must kill dragons to become stronger so we can kill them... Well, that's what it seems like to me at least...I don't get why we are still killing each other, the gods have left, so why should we still try and continue some stupid war? I don't get it, but this isn't what I was going to write. Back to the dragons! As I was flying away looking for a place to hide out and enjoy the day in, I was ambushed! I forgot to keep an eye out for dragons, silly me. I thought they were sleeping in like my Ma and Da. I managed to dodge and hide in the trees from the dragon, but that leaves me with a question. How do I fight a dragon with my fists alone? I will ask Da tonight when I go home, I want to fight and win against dragons. If only so that I can get out of that stifling school.

First Hunt
 Dear Diary,
I wanted to defeat a Ysali dragon, so I pestered Da until he gave me a few tips... I wonder if he knew that I was too small to actually attack the head as he said it was best to do? You know, I think he did, cause he seemed really amused at dinner tonight... Even though I'd lost. Maybe he was amused that it'd batted me off like a cat does to a mouse... Just wait dragon! I'll beat you one day! On the plus side, he didn't mind me ditching class to go fight dragons, hmm.. maybe I should fight more! Then I'd never have to go to class! Nah, Da wouldn't like that, he wants me to study, though what for I don't know, it's not like they're teaching me stuff he and Ma can't tell me. Night Diary, I'm off to go play with Fallon, he seems unhappy that I haven't been playing with him as much lately.

[PRP] A Chance Meeting while Lost
 Dear Diary,
I met my first dovaa today! I was going to see if I could get to the ruins, but I got lost. Good thing I did though! Otherwise I'd never had met her. Da came and found me.. kinda sad I didn't get to go and explore the ruins, but I had fun anyways!

[PRP + Dragon Battle] Dragons and Dirt
Dear Diary,
While I was playing in the mud an hour out from my home I was tripped over by a dovaa! A second one in a week! He or she, not too sure which, but I think Ismiril is a guy. Well, he reminds me of Fallon so much. Kinda whines a bit, but so adorable and huggable! I want to hug him to death! Miri is brave too. He put all of his strength into beating that dragon! It almost ate him though.. but we beat it! And I had to take him home to get him cleaned up. He was covered in mud, blood and drool....Ew!

A Quest to Win Alone
 Dear Diary:
Today I wanted to defeat a dragon alone. I felt so confident after my win with Ismiril, but I didn't have any luck today. I ran into a huge dragon... it'd probably been a live forever! It was easily twice the size of the dragon I helped killed! So I hid in the trees until it left, I didn't think I'd leave alive if I tried to attack it. Next time I'll attack and win... right? Oh well, I'm going to go play with Fallon, he's so much fun to be with and he makes me forget my upsets and worries.

Home Away From Home Class had been particularly boring that morning, so Kadryn had napped through it. Her instructor, Krelsiarla Lorin, had finally lost patience. "If you can't stay awake why are you even here, Kadryn?! Go away and come back only when you are ready to learn." Cheering with delight, Kadryn flew out the nearest window, "Wohoo! Free afternoon!" "Don't leave through the .. windows..." Sighing, Krelsiarla shook her head, "I don't get that child, why won't she put any effort in? Something will need to be done about her, and soon." Turning back to her class, she put aside the problem of Kadryn. Kadryn flew towards home. Though happy for the free afternoon, she did wonder what her Da would say when he found out. "Hm, if I go to Ma and spend the afternoon with her, Da shouldn't be too upset; after all, it's not like I ditched today..." Kadryn enjoyed the feeling of the wind on her face and wings after being stuck in that stuffy room and boring lectures on the history of the Great Engagement, "I know, I'll help Ma in the cafe! That way neither of them will have to worry today and who knows, maybe there'll be a new bard! Oh, I hope so! I'd love to hear some new stories!" Changing directions, Kadryn headed into town. Landing outside the Wind Cafe where her mother worked, Kadryn furled her wings into her back. Walking into the warmly lite room, Kadryn called out to the owner, Talia Perinth. "Tali, is Ma in the back?" A tall orderite woman with bright pink hair and lavender skin looked over, a delighted expression on her face, "Kadryn? Shouldn't you be in school? You didn't ditch again did you?" Kadryn smiled up at what she often thought of as her aunt. " Nah, Mizz Krelsiarla didn't like me napping while she droned on. So she kicked me out and said to return when I want to learn." "Oh? I would think she disliked that! You drive her crazy, you know that right? She often comes here for lunch and complains to me. Here she is trying to teach you and you go to sleep." Talia shook her head affectionately, "Your mother is in the back, I think she's about to make the special for today. Why not go help her, kiddo? She misses cooking with you. And we miss seeing you around here. What have you been up to lately?" "If mizz Krel doesn't want me napping, she shouldn't drone so much. Why can't she talk like a bard and make things interesting? And I've been hunting dragons lately! I ran into this huge Ysali! It was as big as the Piesio that visited the lake 3 years ago! I hide, cause I'm not strong enough to take it on yet." Looking up at Talia, Kadryn grinned, "And I met this adorable dovaa too! Helped me get my first orb!" Pulling out the orb from her large bag, she proudly showed it off to Talia. "Oh! You've finally got one!" Scooping Kadryn up, Talia gave her a big hug and smooched her on the check. "I'm so proud of you, girly! No wonder your Ma has been so chipper lately! I wondered, and asked her, but she just smiled and said I had to ask you! You're such a big girl now! Oh, you should have brought the dovaa over.. I've only met a few of them, but it's always been an interesting day when you see them. Ah, but you haven't been in lately! Bad girl, you need to drop by and talk to aunty Tali more." Talia grinned and swung Kadryn around, "I know just how to celebrate! There's a bard coming to the village tomorrow, he's said to be very skilled and knowledgeable as well! I'll see if I can get him to come by tomorrow and give you a story or several, and then we can have a big feast for dinner!" As she talked, Talia walked towards the kitchen, carrying Kadryn. Arriving at the door, she swung in and announced, "Look who finally showed up! Your adorable girl has just shown me her first dragon orb; now why couldn't you have told me yourself, Laasya?" Putting Kadryn down, she mock shook her head at Kadryn's mother. Looking over her shoulder, Laasya responded. "I thought you'd like to hear it from her, Talia, wasn't it worth the wait though? And what are you doing out of class, Kadryn? I thought you said you'd stick it out for at least a week?" She raised her eyebrow at her wayward daughter as she kneaded some dough. "I was, but mizz Krel put me to sleep, and then she kicked me out for napping. So I thought I'd spend the afternoon with you." Walking over, Kadryn hugged her mother's knees and looked winningly upwards. "I wanted to cook with you, Ma.""Oh, you evil little girl, you know she can't resist it when you say that!" Talia laughed, "I'll leave you two to making delicious food for the customers. Give us a surprise for the special today, okay?" Talia turned around and went back into the Cafe's dining area. Smiling, Laasya looked down at Kadryn. "You little rascal. Go wash up and we'll try that new pastry recipe I found last week. Fallon is with your father right now, so it's just us girls baking." Turning to the head chef, she said; "We'll be making something new, Tarlon. It might take a while, can you handle the normal orders?""O' course, though Ah want tah be the taste tester!" Tarlon, a large scarred and tattooed orderite, was Talia's husband and head chef of Wind Cafe. "Uncle Tarlon!" Kadryn ran over and hugged Tarlon's knees. "Whoa! Careful, li'l squirt, Ah'm acuttin' right now." Tarlon smiled down at her. "Go an wash up, Kady, Ah can't wait to see what ye two make." Grinning, Kadryn ran to wash up and put on her own mini apron and chef's hat. She loved cooking at Wind Cafe. It was her home away from home.

A First Glimpse of a Berserker
Dear Diary,
That mean old miss Krel! She might as well called me a liar and lazy! Making attempts at excuses for my ditching? Oh really? Where does she think all the bruises and scratches come from? Gardening? I'm fighting out in the wilds! Not playing! I thought I'd show her that I was training, so I went out looking for a dragon, and found one too! I fought it as hard as I could, but it got away. ... Hey diary, I felt so happy at the thought of danger and fighting this afternoon.. Is that normal? I was filled with this ... I don't know, this exhilaration and a glorious feeling this afternoon. Even as it bit and scratched me, I felt no fear, just... pure joy. I wonder if Da or Uncle ever felt this way. Or is it just me?

Welcoming Words It was early evening a week after her last dragon hunt. The sun was going down, painting the pale blue skies and golden trees with red and purple blushes as Kadryn sat on the banks of Lake Tyluafel. The odd feelings Kadryn had experienced in her last dragon fight were weighing on her mind. Why had she been so happy and at peace when she'd been fighting tooth and claw with a dragon more than four times her size? All the other dragon's she'd encountered had ... well, scared her somewhat. She hated to admit it, but there had been times when she'd been terrified. And yet... this last fight. She knew that the more dragon's she'd encountered, the less fear she'd felt. Maybe it had started when she'd beaten her first dragon, with help of course. There had been no time for fear, she'd had to protect Ismiril. Had that fight taught her to not fear dragons? Maybe... and yet... Kadryn sighed and shook her head. Could it had been her anger at Mizz Krel? Had that triggered the strange feeling during the fight? Maybe it had been joy at a chance to prove Mizz Krel wrong. Kadryn sat puzzling over this odd change in herself, not paying attention to her surroundings. Suddenly hands shoved her in the back, sending her sprawling into the shallow waters. As she came sputtering up, she heard the deep rumbling laughter of her 'uncle' Tarlon and saw the amused smile of her father, Naiser. "Meanie uncle, what was that for?" She sputtered indignity as she sat in the lake. "Cause I can, lil' kady, thas why!" Tarlon chortled back at her; "Now, what're ye ponderin' so mightily that ye dina notice us a sneakin' up?" "He's right, if you can't sense us creeping up, than prepare to be ambushed!" Naiser smiled down at his soaked daughter. "Come on out of there, Kadryn, the lady's have made us a picnic to eat out under the stars tonight. You can talk as we walk." Scrunching her nose at her father, Kadryn held her arms out, "Don't wanna walk Da. Uncle Tarlon should carry me since he got me wet!""Well now, Ah suppose Ah should, but ye need to answer the question, li'l Kady, if ye wants to be let down for dinner!" Tarlon swooped down and scooped up the wet child. "Yay!" Kardyn gave Tarlon a damp hug from where she sat perched on his broad shoulder. "Well, I was thinking about my last hunt...""Oh? The one where you were going to prove miss Krelsiarla wrong about something and get an orb? But instead of an orb you only came back bloody and needing new clothes?" Naiser raised an eyebrow at his wayward daughter, "I hope you don't mean to repeat that performance, you gave your mother and I a heart attack." "Yeah that one, but I'm not thinking about that, I was thinking of how I felt during the fight." Kadryn shrugged, not sure of what to say; how could she put into words the feeling, the rush that she'd experienced? Well, if anyone could understand, it would be her uncle and father. "Oh?" Tarlon looked at Naiser and cocked his head as he raised an eyebrow. Kadryn knew they had ways of talking together without words; she'd always wondered if you got that from working alongside someone for so long, cause her Da and Ma did that too. "I felt so strange, there wasn't any of the fear or worry that I normally feel when I face a dragon. I... well, I didn't care about what was going to happen, if I'd win or lose. It.. it was like this... joy. Yeah, it was this really calm but fierce joy at the thought of battle.... And.. I ... I didn't really feel any pain, at least not until the dragon had left and I'd caught my breath." She wrapped her arms around Tarlon's head and lay her head on top of his. Would they think her strange, that she wasn't sane? Kadryn didn't want to disappoint either of them...Tarlon startled her by starting to laugh his deep rolling laugh that always made her smile. Smacking him on top of the head she peered down at him and her grinning father. "What? Don't laugh, this is serious! Stop grinning like a buffoon Da! What.. Why are you two acting like this!?" Naiser tried to look serious, but his eyes still danced with amusement. "What you felt is very much what Tarlon there felt when we used to go hunting dragons. It's.. hmm, what would you call it Tarlon? Battle joy? Oh well, it often comes upon a berserker when they battle, or sometimes an ordinary person gets it and it .. strengthens them? Hmm, yes that sound right. It blinds the mind to pain so that a berserker can shrug off enormous amounts of pain and usually last longer in battle than most." Naiser smiled up at his daughter when she heaved a sigh of relief, "And no, nothing is wrong with you Kadryn, many warriors in my line have had that same feeling when they fight. I don't though.""Thas cause ye always liked to slink and sneak 'round instead of bull-rushin' things like me!" Tarlon grinned and, twisting his head to look at Kadryn, gave her some advice. "It'll help ye in battle, but don't go in-tah battle angry li'l Kady. That'll just lead yer battle joy into making you kill someone ye don' mean too." His voice was serious as he gave her this last bit of advice. Okay Uncle, I'll be careful." A grin creeped across her face, "So Da, does this mean I can have Uncle Tarlon teach me to fight? Since you're an archer and I wanna be something else? Right Uncle? It'll be us two training! We can ditch the stuffy school right?" "What? No! " Naiser pulled a sad face, "You're gonna ditch me aren't you Kadryn? After all these years of love and care, my daughter abandons me for her brutish uncle!" He grinned. "I'll let you ditch once a week to train, on the condition that you attend the other 4 days. You're going to wish you'd chosen me to train you, Tarlon is a brutal task master!""Heh, ye bet I am!" Tarlon bared his teeth, "I'll run her ragged! That way she can sleep thru that boring Krel's lectures!"Kadyrn cheered as Naiser laughed and shook his head. What a treasure his little girl was! Naiser smiled proudly, he knew she'd grow into a strong fighter.

Once more with vigor!
 Dear Diary:
I did it! I've finally beaten a dragon on my own! I used those techniques Uncle and Da taught me to good use! And.. well, I found out I do have a bit of a blood-thirsty side to me. I felt so good after killing that dragon.. I wanted to do it again. It's kinda scary when I think of how happy I was to take something's life... But you know what diary? I would do it again. I know that killing is not always good, but I can't help the way I feel when I fight. It'd be nice if I never had to kill, and everything would be fine just with sparring. But sparring doesn't give me the thrill that a real life or death situation does. Or at least it doesn't yet. I'm off for tonight, gotta go play with Fallon and make sure he doesn't try to eat my new orb!

Feeling Confident
 Dear Diary:
I thought that since I'd finally killed a dragon on my own that I could do it again today. I was wrong. This dragon was much faster than the last. Now I need to spar some fast people to be able to match that dragon's speed. Hmm, maybe Da? He's an archer, and really fast... or maybe one of my classmates is fast. I've seen some of them and they certainly look fast. Maybe they'll spar with me and help me learn to dodge and hit a faster opponent.

 Dear Diary:
So tired from training with uncle... Maybe if I wan't so tired I would have won against that dragon... No, that's making excuses, I wasn't strong enough. Maybe next time I'll be able to beat a Ysali again. Yeah, defiantly next time. One of these days...

Orb Delivery Kadryn was nervous. She'd never really gone to a large city before; she'd always preferred to explore the wilderness alone than going to Ashen City with some of the other girls for a shopping trip. But now her father was taking her to Ashen City, or more precisely, to the Citadel of Order in Ashen City. She was to meet Aevah Avi, the voice of Seren and leader of the Orderites. Kadryn wasn't sure how she felt about Aevah Avi; Kadryn certainly didn't agree with the war that Aevah Avi apparently supported, but maybe... hmm, why does she want us to kill others? Isn't she supposed to be a healer and love everyone? Strange for someone like her to wage war. Kadryn puzzled over this odd idea, trying to keep her mind off the impending doom of being surrounded by people and noise and not wilderness. "We've arrived, Kadryn." Naiser smiled down at is daughter, "Don't worry, Lady Aevah isn't going to bite... and neither will most people here. It'll be nosier than you're used too and there will be a ton of distraction, but I'll be with you for this first trip, so don't panic. We'll go and deliver your first dragon orbs than I'll take us out to eat at a place that I always ate at when I came here." He smiled, "And maybe I'll take you to meet my parents. They live near here." Kadryn looked up quickly, "I can meet my other granpa and granny? Yay!" She gave him a quick hug, then released him and grabbed his hand. "Do you think they'll like me? You never really talk about them Da."Naiser chuckled, "Yes they will; though don't call her granny, my mother hates to be reminded she's old. She likes to think she still looks young! Father will adore you, I think you get your fondness for mud and messes from him.""Ohh! Can we skip meeting the leader and go meet them instead?""No, silly. You need to deliver them, once you do you will be recognized as strong enough to be taught real weaponry. That and she might let you out of mandatory schooling if you're lucky... though I wouldn't count on it." Naiser was amused at the expression on Kadryn's face when he mentioned this last bit. If there was any way of getting out of schooling, He knew she would jump at the chance to do so. "Well, if you put it that way Da...." Kadryn clung to her father's hand as they were absorbed by the noisy sounds and smells of the city. So many people! And there was no space to breath... "Can we fly Da? I don't like being this cramped." She looked pleadingly up at Naiser. "Oh all right, give me a sec." Naiser picked Kadryn up and began to skillfully navigate the crowds till he came to an alley way, where her than launched himself into the key, letting Kadryn unfurl her wings and fly as well once they were above the roofs of the houses. "You see that large building in the center with the many tall spires surrounding it? That is the Citadel, it is where the official academy is. You were supposed to be sent there, but about a decade ago, the mothers in our village got tired of never seeing their children and petitioned, built, and paid for a school and teachers out of the village funds. I for one am glad. I don't think you would have been happy here. The wilderness fits you much better. That and I'd miss you too much." Naiser smiled across at his daughter. Naiser and Kadryn flew past many others in the sky as they headed off to the Citadel. Naiser dropped Kadryn off near one of the taller spires telling her he'd meet her here when she was done. Kadryn nervously walked into the building, passing beneath tall arches that made her feel smaller than she already was. Inside there was a tall Orderite girl waiting. "Kadryn, yes? At Kadryn's nod, the girl continued, "I'm here to take you to Lady Aevah's office. If you'd follow me." She turned and began heading down the corridor. What a snooty attitude! She didn't even tell me her name, Kadryn thought rebelliously. Does she think that being a city girl makes her better? Kadryn shook her head and tried too think positively, there was no reason to get angry yet after all. Maybe she's just busy and having to show me the way is making her day more busy. Kadryn cleared her thought, "Can I have your name? It is the polite thing to do you know. Even if you might never see me after today."The taller girl paused and turned around, "Well, I suppose you're right. I'm called Adila. I am a little late for my weapons training so I'm in a rush right now. I do apologize for the lack of courtesy." Adila smiled down at Kadryn. "I hope you don't mind me saying, but you are rather small and young looking for someone come to deliver dragon orbs." There, it's just as Aunty says, you can't always tell from first impressions! She's not really that snooty. Kadryn smiled back, "I've always been smaller than those my age. I don't mind. It makes hiding and hunting easier sometimes. I've come to deliver my first 2 orbs. What weapon are you training in?"Adila continued along the corridor, taking at right at the intersection. "I'm training with the bow. I tried the sword, but I just don't have the skill. But I'm almost a dead shot with the bow!"Kadryn trotted to keep up, "My Da's an archer too. It's difficult to hit the target. I tried for a while." Kadryn shook her head, "I prefer to bash things. I'm thinking I'll go with a mace."Adila stopped in front of a dark wooden door, "Well, here you are! It was nice meeting you. I wish you luck in your choice of weapon and in your future hunts, Kadryn. ""Same.. same to you." Kadryn was a bit surprised at the formality of Adila's words. Maybe that's how city people talked? Oh well. Gathering her courage Kadryn pushed open the door and stepped through. "Welcome. I take it you are the wild child that Krelsiarla has been complaining about. She seems to think I should have you brought to the Citadel to learn. Hmm, I take it you don't want to?" These softly spoken words greeted Kadryn and shocked her. Come here? Into this cramped and stuffy city with no escape? Never! "I don't want to! Then I'd be stuck in stuffy rooms listening to boring lectures on stupid reasons for war! Nope! No need! I've learned enough. See!" She held out her 2 Ysali orbs. "I've already gotten two dragons, so I shouldn't have to be moved here!" Kadryn was a little panicked. Would this tall and beautiful woman force her to come? Hopefully not... she'd would sneak away and live in the wilds if they tried that! "Since I've gotten orbs, it proves that I don't need schooling anymore! ...Right? Please?" Aevah Avi smiled gently a Kadryn, "I never said I was going to force you to come, child. Just that Krelsiarla wanted to make sure that you learned enough and that she thought that the way she taught wasn't working since you were always ditching. And from what you said, you disagree about the war? Or the reason? Hm?""Well, yeah. I don't mind fighting. But it seems they want me to hate someone I've never met before. And that's silly. You should never hate someone until you've gotten to know them. That's what my Aunty says. And I don't mind Mizz Krel... it's just... I want to be outside, in the wild, feeling the wind and listening to the sounds of the land. Not around people all the time as they chat and gossip about silly things. So I ditch a lot... Though Da and Uncle have been making sure I get some training and lessons in. And for history lessons, I listen to the bards and travelers! They've actually gone out and seen the world! Ad they make it so fascinating to listen to! Maybe you should hire some bards to teach." Kadryn smiled as Aevah Avi laughed. "I just might. Now, I'm sure you didn't come to talk to me about this. Though it has been enlightening. Do I see some Ysali orbs?""Yup! I got this one on my own! But this one," Kadryn held up her left hand, "was my first. I met a Dovaa called Ismiril and we defeated it together!""Did you now?" Aevah Avi smiled sweetly, "It is always a good thing when one makes friends and help each other." She held out her hand as she bent down to look Kadryn in the eye. "Would you give these to me to keep? I would not want to take away these orbs if they are important to you."Kadryn looked down at them. Looking up, she smiled, "You can have them, I'll have the memories in my mind and diary. They'll live that way." Kadryn handed the orbs to Aevah Avi. "Thank you, Kadryn. Now go, your father is waiting for you. Go and enjoy the city for a bit. Soon you'll be strong enough to defeat other dragons than Ysali. When you do, why not come back and deliver your next orbs then? I'll be looking forward to it." She stood up and smiled as Kadryn scurried out. Lose 2 Ysali orbs
