Kadryn had pestered her father for a week since she'd last encountered an Ysali dragon. She wanted to know some tricks or attacks that would help her defeat a dragon. And he’d finally given in, knowing that she would face one sooner or later, and it would be better if she knew how to attack or defend herself. That morning she marched out of her house, eager to use her new found skills. She felt a little stronger, though she wouldn't know until she faced a dragon if she was. As she headed into the forest near her home, she began looking for signs of dragons. Hunting on foot, she soon found one, lazing by the lake it seemed to mock her with its confidence. ''Be as quiet and careful as you can when sneaking up on dragons, you want to surprise them and get a few hits on the head and underbelly for it knows you're there.' Kadryn repeated her Da's words as she sneaked up on the dragon. Creeping forward in the grass, she tried her best to be quiet as the wind. Once she’d gotten close, Kadryn suddenly launched herself at the dragon, tensing her fingers into claws; she tried to strike at the dragon's head! She'd forgotten how small she was, and how big the dragon was.... she barely reached its chest. As she rebounded off the scaly chest, the dragon lazily swiped his claw at her and threw her back into the forest. Tumbling head over feet in the air, Kadryn crashed into a large bush.
"Phooey, I need to face a smaller dragon... How can I reach the head if it's so big? Oh well, at least I'm not too badly hurt." Picking herself up, Kadryn limped back home.
