It was not yet dawn when Kadryn crept out of her village by the lake. Shifting her bag more comfortably on her back she though rebelliously; 'If Da makes me go to school one more time this week, I'll die of boredom.' It wasn't that she disliked school, no it was the stupid people and their noise and loud boasts. 'Rather be out in the wild, so much more freedom and quiet.'
Unfurling her wings, she launched her self into the air, intending to get far out enough that her Da wouldn't be able to find her before he had to leave for this work at the smithy. As she fluttered out over the grassy plains, she forgot to check for dragons. She knew they were a danger, but thought that they would be sleeping in like everyone else on this lovely summer morning.
Humming a song to herself, Kadryn looked for a good spot to hide and draw in the grassy woodland below her. She didn't look up at the large winged creature that was dropping down from the sky at her. Then Kadryn heard the sound of the air being cut by something large. Flipping over, she looked straight up at the large green Ysali dragon dropping towards her.
"Eek!" Squeaking in startlement, Kadryn flipped her wings over and zoomed to the side then down. Flying as fast as only a small winged creature running from a predator can, she flew the the ground, burying herself in the thick golden leaves of the Serenia trees. Heart pounding, she watched as the Ysali dragon wandered around looking for her, then left.

One day... soon, I hope. I'll be able to challenge you dragon. Then I won't run or hide, I'll fight. .. But how do you fight a dragon with your hands?" She looked down at her small hands. "Hmm, I must ask Da to show me a few tricks..."
