Kadryn was ditching... again. Miss Krel had been absent the last few days, so Kadryn had thought that the substitute teacher would be interesting... No such luck, he was even more boring than Miss Krel. Kadryn just couldn't take another day listening to that old man's monotone dry voice, she'd go insane! So Kadryn, after peeking in and not seeing Miss Krel, had left for the Lake, intending to spend the day relaxing and refreshing herself. Maybe she'd head over to the Wind Cafe in the afternoon after school would have ended and help in the kitchen some more. Kadryn rubbed her back, Uncle Tarlon had been training her hard lately. Da hadn't been joking when he'd said that Uncle was a brutal task master! Kadryn thought wryly. Kadryn had never trained so much in her life! She spent most of the time dodging, or attempting to at least, her uncle. He had her rolling on the floor, jumping over stuff without her wings, suddenly flying up, and learning how to do a controlled swoop from high and low heights. Kadryn looked at her arms and legs, they were much more defined and toned than they had been a few weeks ago. As she sat reminiscing about her training, she almost missed seeing the dragon swooping down at her. Quickly rolling to the side, Kadryn growled as she forced her tired limbs to move. What's wrong with a day off? She though, Just one day! As she leaped at the dragon, Kadryn tried to remember all the tricks her uncle had taught her... but her body was too worn out and tired to be as fast as she normally was. Kadryn's blood, singing from the heat of the battle, made her want to continue the fight, but she knew that this was a losing battle and that retreat was necessary. Using the tactics that she recalled her father talking about a while back, Kadryn carefully maneuvered herself so that she was near the forest edge. In a lull in the battle, Kadryn flew into the forest, leaving behind an angry dragon.
