Roleplay, Main Thread || Kijibwa, juvenile/adolescent || In the Pridelands

Roleplay transcribed from Main thread.

Summary: After his meeting with Kiburi, Kijibwa decides he'd like to see the fat, lazy and stupid lions of the Pridelands that she mentioned. When he gets some ways into the lands he comes across a princess who isn't very fond of rogues, Kiuma. She tells him to get out in a challenging manner, and Kijibwa agrees to leave to avoid a fight. Kijito makes a brief appearance.

-------------------------------------------------

After his meeting with Kiburi, Kijibwa was convinced he had to go meet some of these lazy and stupid lions that she had mentioned. It sounded like an excellent way to amuse himself, if she was right about them, and because she's said they wouldn't harm him, nothing seemed to stand in his way!

After some exploring, he finds himself near the center of the pridelands- some distance from the border he'd started by. He continues to enjoy the change of scenery but doesn't like how open it is and the sun you're exposed to because of that.

"If I were a pride of stupid lions," he murmurs to himself, looking around, "Where would I be?" He's gotten more eager the farther he came into the lands.

Kiuma crouched to drink from a small stream, a branch off of the large one that ran through the Pridelands. The water was cool and sweet, and just what she needed right now. Things were changing so fast... Soon she and Uumi would be leaving this place, something she'd been dreaming of for longer than she could remember. Yet strangely, she had misgivings, a weight in her paws when she thought of what lay beyond the borders. The adolescent sighed as she raised her sleek red head, water dripping down her creamy chin. Bright crimson eyes, a gift from her parents, scanned the savannah around her. This place was shadded by tall waving grass, making it a perfect spot to stop for a drink with out being seen.

The princess smiled crookedly. It was a perfect spot to hunt out prey, too... too bad she wasn't hungry. Maybe if something came along she'd go get it to play with, but for now she was content. Settling back on her muscled haunches, the young lioness began to wash her paws, then her face, with quick economical strokes of her tongue.

The lions stays standing where he his, swishing his tail and looking around in hopes that someone would suddenly show up. His blue eyes narrow and he sighs loudly.

"I guess you can't count on lazy lions to be around," he says loudly to hismelf, scolding himself for hoping one would just walk on by him b chance. He'll just have to keep looking! He looks around as best he can and decides arbitrarily which direction he wants to go in- as long as it's not the way he came from, he's fine.

He jogs off in that direction, conveniently toward the stream that Kiuma was drinking from, though he doesn't notice the lioness or the faint sounds of water as he gets closer.

The red lioness' ears perked as they caught the faint sound of paws on dirt and rustling grass. Someone was coming...

She hissed softly to herself, those soft round ears falling to lie against her head. Drat! She didn't feel like the company of her family or pride right now, which was mostly likely who was coming here. Rogues didn't tend to wander this far in. Growling to herself, Kiuma slunk into the grass and crouched down. Her bright eyes were locked in the direction of the sound, peering between the blades of grass. First, see who it was, then decide if she wanted to bother with them or not. Sometimes her siblings could be counted on for entertainment.

When the stream is both visible and audible, Kijibwa decides to slow down and realizes that he could use a drink. Being so caught up in looking around for these lions, he hadn't realized how thirsty he was. He shakes his mane from his eyes- something that'd been happening more- and steps up to the stream.

He remains oblivious to the fact that the lioness is hiding in the grass when he reaches the water. Just a little ways upstream from where she'd been, he doesn't realize that she'd been there or that she still is. With another toss of his mane, he leans forward and takes a drink from the stream.

Suprise sweeps through the female at the sight of the white and black male. A rogue? This far into the Pridelands? Her suprise was so great, she rose to her feet to clear her head from the grass and studied him with suspicious red eyes. Flicking her tail, she stepped from the concealing grass then paused. He didn't look dangerous, but then, little made Kiuma feel unsafe. She was secure in her skills as a huntress and a fighter, and he wasn't that much bigger than she was.

"Who are you?" She growled. "And what are you doing here?"

Kijibwa lifts his head when he suddenly hears the growlling questions from Kiuma. His expression goes from surprised, to delighted, to cautious rather quickly- he's found a lion, hopefully one of the pride lions, but she doesn't look very happy.

"I'm Kijibwa," he introduces himself amicably, tilting his head, "I came to find the pride that lives here."

Kijito's ears twitched as he padded lightly through the grasses. Though he couldn't see them it sounded like his sister was nearby and talking to someone. Picking up the pace, he skidded to a stop next to the two of them.

Kiuma sneered. "Why would you do that? Seeking to join the Pride? We have enough useless rogues as it is." She padded closer, her paws light on the gravel by the water. The sun shone off her bright pelt, the red color suprising against the greens and golds of her home. She was all deadly grace as the young lioness circled the stranger, the arrival of her brother registering vaguely. Her tufted tail swayed behind her, the fur at the end nearly black in color.
"I'm not useless!" he exclaims, he'd never really encountered someone like Kiuma before, "I heard about them from someone and came to see if she was right." He can't help but stare at the bright color of the lioness, and he can't help but wonder about how she's acting. She's not acting lazy, or friendly- but maybe she is stupid??

His blue eyes turn to the lion who comes up beside them- wow, two at once?

Kijito eyed the stranger for a moment, his eyes filled with a friendliness. Turning his attention on his sister, however his eyes hardened. Silently repremending her for being rude to the other lion. Settling on his hunches, he stared at his sister.

Kiuma sniffed hauntily, eyeing the stranger sidelong. "Well, whether or not you're useless remains to be seen. And just who told you about the Pride here, hmm? What did 'she' say that got you so excited to see the golden lions of the Pridelands?" Feeling her brother's gaze, she flicked her eyes to him. The reproof in his eyes made her pause, then her own eyes hardened in response. Every line of her body spoke of the defensiveness she felt at his reprimand, and the core of stubborness that refused to let her back down. She'd long ago decided that the pride had far too many rogues, outnumbering the pure blooded Pridelanders by a great deal. In her mind, this wasn't right, and it made her regard all rogues as interlopers, come to take over the pride. The red adolescent growled softly, breaking eye contact so she could ignore her brother.

Kijibwa stands still, holding his head up to at least give the impression that he's not afraid of her. He doesn't know a lot about prides, or how some may feel about rogues coming into their lands- but he doesn't feel very threatened, these two looked about his size, even if he is outnumbered.

"I was told they're friendlier than this," he mutters first, even if all Kib had said was they wouldn't capture him, between that and her attitude, he couldn't imagine them not being friendly. He stays focussed on Kiuma, though he knows the other is there..

"Well, you were told wrong. At least, about me." The princess snorted, flicking her tail. Her bright eyes flicked to her brother as she spoke. "A lot of the pride is soft-hearted... they can't turn away anything with sad eyes and a hungry belly. Me? I'd just as soon chase them out to the border than look at them... but I guess its not my choose if they let outsiders in. I'll be leaving soon anyway..." Her voice drifted off, her eyes going distant. Soon... all to soon. Then she'd be just like all those rogues, save she had a home to come back to.

"Just who told you about us, anyway?" She realized he hadn't answered her question, and trained those red eyes on him again.

"I can tell," Kijibwa replies, not taking the time to think before he speaks. His ears perk when she mentions leaving, his expression becoming slightly confused, "If rogues are useless, why are you leaving? Or do you have a pride you're going to?"

It doesn't make any sense.

"Kiburi told me about the lions here," he finally answers the question.

Kiuma frowned, perking her ears. Kiburi... Mchele's sister, and one of Bahkti's cubs. The female hadn't known her very well. Though, Uumi called her Peach, and thought her quite silly. The adolescent sniffed, turning her eyes from him to look out over the grass. "I'm not going to be a rogue... what an stupid idea. I'm going to travel the world, see new things... My brother and I are going to see things no lion has seen before, and do things that havn't been done." She rasied her head high, her eye shining.

Kiji's eyes widen a bit, not looking very convinced by what Kiuma says. It sure sounds like a rogue to him- he was travelling the world, sort of, even if he isn't intent on seeing everything and doing things other lions haven't.

"What's the difference between that and a rogue?" He aks, his voice more curious now, "It sounds the same to me."

Kiuma snorted. "The difference is I have a home to come back to, and a rogue doesn't. I have a pride and a family that's been here for generations. That makes me different from them."

Tired of standing around, she settled back on her haunches and proceeded to clean her paws.

"A rogue can have a home where ever they want, though," Kijibwa also takes a seat, though that's all he does, "And a family-" Kiburi had said that too, he must have a family somewhere because lions come from other lions that love each other- "Maybe not in one place or for generations.."

He can see how it's different, but he doesn't get why having a specific home and large group for a family would make her any better than him..

Kiuma sighed. This one was quite dense, it seemed. "Look, its better to have a pride, because they can look out for each other and hunt together, stuff like that. Pridemembers don't get lonely, because there are always others there for them." She trailed off, suprised to find herself lecturing a rogue. Would the sky be falling next?

She rose upbruptly to her paws and stretched in a show of nonchallantness. "Look, I don't have time to sit around and chat. Either get out, or go prove yourself useful. I don't want to deal with you anymore unless you can grow some brains real fast." Yawning, she went to lap up some water for a dry throat, flicking her tail.

"That's only any use if you stop wandering- or travelling- and go back to the pride," he argues, "If you don't go back to the pride then you aren't really any different than a rogue, you just have a different past."

He stays seated even when she gets up, watching the lioness, "You can't tell me to leave, you can't be in charge here or you wouldn't be leaving. You're the one who started talking to me."

Kijibwa keeps watching her, not so sure about this pride anymore. Kib, so far, seems to be proven wrong about the lions here. This one doesn't seem very fat, stupid, lazy or friendly..

"I never said I wouldn't be coming back." She growled, raising her head to face him again. "I'm different because I am. I'm not a rogue like you, I'm a Pridelander. My parents are the King and Queen, and I'm a princess. If I want to wander outside the Pridelands, I can do that, but it doesn't make me a rogue." Her eyes snapped with fire. This upstart needed to be put in his place.

"And I can. I just did, didn't I? And if you won't, maybe I'll just have to make you... I don't have to be in charge to do that." She growled low in her throat, the sound menacing. Muscles bunched as she stalked towards him. Most of the time, her bluster was just that, a bluff. This time though... it was hard to tell if she ment to carry out her threat.

He seems surprised by her sudden violent reaction and explanation that had no reasoning behind it besides she didn't say she wouldn't come back and that she's a princess. Kijibwa seems most surprised by this- maybe she does have authority to tell him to leave, then? Or the connections to make it worse than just facing her.

But of course- he doesn't know anything for sure about this, he's never really been in a pride or met anyone that wasn't friendly (that he remembers.) Luckily, he's not stupid enough to just keep sitting there while being threatened.

He narrows his eyes, losing the curious gleam to them, and gets to his feet- crouching defensively and inching backward. He doesn't want to fight, but he's prepared to try to defend himself.

"Leaving you alone and leaving the lands are different," he grumbles.

She could tell him to leave her, but that wasn't how he'd taken what she'd said before. He just isn't used to being on lands with a pride in them- it seems odd to him, which is part of why he would jump to the conclusion of being told to leave the lands entirely first. Of course, he wouldn't ask which she'd meant before or now.

Kiuma advanced slowly, her snarl slipping into a smirk instead. The way he backed away from her was thrilling, making her feel powerful. She hissed, baring her fangs as she stalked closer. "I told you to leave... and I ment both me and the Pridelands. I'm not afraid of you... I'll make you leave if I have to..."

A growl rumbles in Kijibwa's throat as he keeps backing up, he doesn't realize how him backing up makes him look afraid or how it could be making her more confident about it. What he does realize is that he doesn't want to fight, and that he can now say Kiburi was wrong.

"I'm not leaving because you told me to," he snaps, the tone coming more from wanting to get out of fighting, his tail swishes behind him madly.

"Fine. Choose any reason you like, as long as it gets your sorry carcass out of my home." She stopped and stood tall, her ears hard forward as she smirked, flashing her fangs. Her tail lashed behind her in her excitement, the rough sound that was her purr starting up in her chest.

He stops moving as well, though staying crouched slightly incase she decides to try to attack him. While Kijibwa would like to leave her now, if only to avoid the fight, he doesn't trust the smirk or the fangs. He doesn't say anything, but eyes the lioness suspiciously.

How could Kiburi come from the same pride as this lioness?

Kiuma frowned at him when he stopped moving, swishing her black tufted tail. "Well? Are you going?" She growled low, waiting for him to make a move.

He eyes her suspiciously a moment longer, not letting it show that he's relieved it doesn't look like they'll be fighting. She wouldn't know if he didn't actually leave the pridelands, would she?

"Yes," he says finally, not caring how it looks to be forfeiting a fight, "I'll go."

He takes a step backwards again, keeping an eye on her to see how she reacts.

Kiuma watched him with a small smirk, flicking her tail again. Her paws kneeded at the soft gravel, a gentle sound at odds with her appearance. This was probably the first time she'd managed to scare off a rogue that came to the Pridelands, and a sweet feeling of triumph filled her. Good riddance.

With a pause, he glances around him, considering his options. He could go back the way he came, prentending he's going to leave. It'd be sneakier, that's for sure. He glances back at the lioness, not caring for the triumphant look she wears.

Kijibwa shrugs to himself and turns to walk off in the direction he came.
