Her first job!
Quote:
She was perched on top of a tree branch, sitting against the circular base of the tree, her bunny in her arms. She always patrolled around for possible starseeds on nights that teachers didn’t give too much assignments. She sat on the branch, her feet dangling and swinging, too far high up for anybody to see from below. If they had looked up, all they would see would be the darkness of the leaves, the dim lamplight stood a small distance away, too dim to illuminate the tree’s darkened heights.
Two girls could be heard below her feet, Serah looked down at the giggling girls. They were talking at an exceptionally loud volume, giggling and gossiping, Serah observed from listening to several seconds of their conversation.
Alone. Two girls. Two starseeds. Empty park.
She was feeling quite lazy at the moment, despite having sat in a tree, on the lookout for possible starseeds. With a sigh, she straightened up, standing on the branch. She better not dawdle, she reminded herself, not wishing to face Charonite’s wrath. She jumped down, the rush of air made her hair fly upwards, the high heights would have injured anybody of normal status. Key word. Normal. Glimmering eyes looked up at the shocked girls, looking around as if to examine where this strange child in a kimono had come from. Where had she come from?
“Hey. We don’t have time to be baby-sitting kids. Go find your way home, little girl.” One of the girls said irritably, giving Serah a disgusted look, flipping out her cell phone. They both intended to walk by Serah but stopped instinctively as Serah blocked the narrow park path.
“Nor do I have time to be chatting with you. I’ll make this fast since it appears we both don’t have any time to waste.” Serah cheerfully stated, two pairs of eyes narrowing at her in confusion and annoyance. Her cheerful disposition and words seemed to annoy them even more, their scowls deepening.
“Look here, little girl.. I’ll give you some advice. Go to the nearest office and call for your parents..” She would have continued on but she stopped, puzzled and bewildered by Serah's refusal to move. Serah smiled, taking her hand in her own, similar to a child or mother. "Mistake number one was assuming. Mistake number two was calling me a kid. Mistake number three was.. being here." Serah listed, a devious smile crossed her face, her bunny doll trailing on the ground from her other hand.
Mumbled words could be made out as Serah cast her eyes downward.
“grow..grow..Grow!”
The bunny doll seemed to jump from her hands, the size increasing from one foot to several feet tall, looking menacingly upon the females. It must have been quite a sight, a big bunny doll, hovering over them. Swiftly, Serah took advantage of the moment of shock, raising her arm. The doll’s arm raised, imitating her manner, falling harshly on the two female’s heads, their bodies crumpling, one of the females laid unconscious. The other was still awake, groaning as she looked up at Serah.
“Sorry. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Next time, you’ll know, don’t walk around late at night. Contrary to popular opinion, even if you do have a walking buddy. Two’s never safer than just one.” Serah stood in front of the girl, her eyes looking up at Serah in confusion and terror.
Her hands plunged deep into their chests, the heat enveloping her hands. Hm.. Where was it.. – Oh, here it was. She pulled out two starseeds, one starseed in each hand. She stared at them, taking a couple of seconds to admire their shining beauty. Two bright lights reflected in her eyes, the rainbow hue of starseeds soon disappearing as she tucked it in pockets located within her sleeves. From what she understood, starseeds was just a small portion of human life. It wasn’t as if she was killing them by taking this small bit anyways. The girl’s wide eyes soon turned lifeless, the color fading. The doll picked up both of the bodies, hiding them behind some bushes, intending for them to wake up in a less public space later.
“I bet this wasn’t on your agenda tonight.” She murmured, looking at the clock tower in the distance. The bell rang, indicating that an hour had passed.”Oops. Better get back. I wouldn’t want to get on that guy’s bad side.” She looked up, hands smoothing out her wrinkled kimono. The doll reverted back to it’s smaller normal size, tucking it under her arm. She leaped up onto a tree’s low branches, intending to make her way home. Gosh. She was lucky. Two starseeds in one encounter. She doubted she would be quite so lucky again. After all, there surely wouldn’t be targets around that could be so easily plucked again.
