Argh. What to choose. Serah was in a store, dressed in a simple outfit consisting of a tank top, short skirt, and a thin outer shirt. She stared at the two different colored tops, her eyes fiercely concentrated on the choices.
Hmm.. what to choose. Both looked nice. But black might be too typical. Should she just go ahead and choose yellow and risk looking like a banana or a french fry instead?
She sighed, scratching her head. While this wasn't exactly a life-threatning situation, it seemed a little close to one. Her pink hair wasn't exactly easy to work with. Clearly, there was some sort of dilemma here. It didnt help that people were starting to look at her strangely for staying in one place for too long. But couldn't they see she was having a decision to make? Some people just didn't seem to understand the limits of shopping.
At this rate, she just might waste her whole free day at the mall.

"They're both okay, but not the best choice for your colouring," Ari butted in. She'd seen the girl umming and uhhing for almost ten minutes now. Normally Ari would mind her own business, but she was starting to feel sorry for the pink haired girl. Ari'd heard of crimes against fashion, but this poor girl was acting like she'd be given the death penalty for a wrong coloured shirt.
"Try this one." Ari picked the same style top off the growing pile on her arm. "Pale buttercup?" she read off the tag. She gave a shrug and tossed it at the other girl. "Whatever. Anyway, much better match for you - less competition for your hair."
Ari was a decisive shopper - when she decided to spend her parents' money, which was much more likely in cheaper, one-step-above-second-hand shops like this. From the 'sale' table nearby, several tank tops were quickly added to her pile - black, white, violet, jade, as though shopping were a race and Ari was already in last place.
She was a strange sight in a shop like this. Still dressed in her Crystal Academy uniform (despite being the weekend), people kept giving her sideways glances, obviously confused that Ari wasn't in one of the brand label stores at the other end of the mall.
"I've seen you at school, right?" Ari asked, as she moved past the girl in search of jeans. "Hard to miss that hair. Love the colour - natural or dyed?" Maybe that was a bit blunt, but Ari was distracted and her mouth was running freely without brain interference.

Serah turned around to where the new words were coming from. She saw a crystal high student, taking the offered top.
"Oh.. Thanks. Don't you need it though?" Serah asked, tipping her head slightly. Whoa, this was a good color. Why hadn't she seen this top. She held it against herself, glancing at a nearby mirror. You'd think people had better things to do than to glance in their direction. She stared at the crystal high unform for a minute, the quick realization that this girl went to the same school. She turned around to face the other, selecting a white top from a nearby rack.
"Natural. Dying my hair an obscenely pink would be a ridiculous price. The touch ups and treatment might also kill it, you know?" She answered, wondering how this not-so-large girl could carry so much items. Shopping experience. Hm.
"Sorry if I don't notice you at school. I'm usually half-asleep half the time. I don't really wake up until classes are over. Need help carrying those?" She offered, her selection pitifully little in comparison to this girl's.
She didn't wait too long for introductions, the two were already conversing before knowing each other anyways. Why not just ask right away? "Serah. You?" She didn't mince words, twirling a lock of hair around her finger as she tried on a hat. Her total selection would probably be these two tops and a hat.

"Not my colour, really," Ari shrugged off the loss of the shirt. Pastels weren't really her thing. The colour had just been so unusual, she couldn't help but pick it up. It was no loss to pass it on, especially to someone it would suit better.
Ari nodded vaguely at Serah's explanation of the prices and dangers of dying hair. She felt like she was missing some essential teen girl knowledge, not knowing things like this. It had never occurred to her to change her hair colour, even though she saw so many girls doing it these days. Well, more from Meadowview than from Crystal, but Ari had been told that was what you had to expect from those Meadowview girls.
"I... don't think we're in the same grade." Ari's mouth twitched as Serah spoke of wandering school half-asleep. IT was easy to believe, if Serah wasn't even sure who was in her grade or not.
The redhead blinked at the offer of help carrying her things. "Oh. Uh, I'm good. More muscle under here than the uniform shows," she joked. Then paused and wondered if that was also 'low brow' and Meadowview-like, to have muscles. Why was school and social status and being a teenager so complicated?!
"I'm Ari," she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Serah."
Spying the jeans she wanted in her size, Ari whipped them out and slung them over her arm. "You need to try anything on, or do you know their sizing already?"
Ari shopped here enough to know which sizes and styles would fit her fine. But if Serah needed to try things on, Ari wouldn't mind tagging along. It wasn't like she had any girl friends from school - or anywhere, honestly - to go shopping with. Just her mother. And being steered towards frilly and girly got old fast.

"We probably aren't." She agreed, nodding her head a little. Negaverse patrolling made her quite sleepy. Not that Serah would mention that out loud.
"Great for shopping! You won't need to drag a guy around to carry your things. Although life's easier that way." Serah didn't take any more meaning in the words than the bare value. After all, she didn't concern herself with social status. There was better things in life than to think about how one looked in another's eyes. Besides, life didn't need standards.
Ari. She would remember that.
"Hm. I'm a little new to this store. What do you think would fit me?" She made a gesture, indicating the whole store. After all, Serah could only go so far by herself. "I haven't gone shopping in awhile. This is one of my days off so I'd like to make the most of it as possible." She said, holding out a white top against her slender frame.
"if you have time.. Care to join me?" She grinned, tipping her head slightly. "After all, it's not like there's anyone else I can ask. If you don't come along, you might see me in a bright horrendous pink sweater in the hallways. By then, you'll wish you never knew me." She pointed out with a grin, although she would never actually actually pick out that sort of sweater purposely. "Get my drift?"

It was reassuring when Serah made no snide comments, just taking Ari's words at face value. Shoulders relaxing, Ari smiled. It seemed she'd found one of the nicer girls from Crystal. She'd have to write about Serah in her journal so Ari wouldn't forget - well, as soon as her arms were free again.
"It looks like you've picked the right sizes," Ari said after a thoughtful comparison of the top Serah was holding up against herself. "I'd try them on just to be sure. Tops are always easier to judge than skirts or pants, too."
A laugh burst from Ari at the image of pink-haired Serah in a neon pink sweater. "Well, I see I'll have to come save you from yourself. What a hardship," she joked, secretly pleased to have someone to spend the day with.
"Changing rooms are over this way, when you're ready." She indicated towards the back of the store with her free hand.

"A hardship like you wouldn't believe." Serah said lightly, brown eyes sparkling with amusement. She took several more items for various racks, looking towards the direction of the changing rooms, a ruffly skirt and vest added to her list of clothes to try on.
"I'm going to go see if these fit now. Why don't we celebrate our purchases by eating somewhere afterwards? Did you eat yet?" Serah asked, pausing before she went to change into her new outfits. A thought seemed to occur quickly to her, remembering what a common problem amongst Crystal Girls was as she asked the question.
"Please, don't tell me you're dieting. Not being able to eat what I enjoy is my worst nightmare. Too many girls insist on going on useless diets when they're simply too lazy to exercise." A laziness Ari seemed lack by the indication of her strong arms. Which was a good thing.

"No, I haven't eaten yet," Ari said. She trailed Serah through the store down to the changing rooms. That was such a cute skirt that Serah had picked up; it made Ari wish she liked wearing skirts outside the school uniform. To her parents' dismay, Ari was more of a jeans, shorts or pants kind of girl.
The mere mention of a diet made Ari blanch. "Oh, god, no! I like my junk food too much to diet. And how could I live without chocolate?"
Exercise wasn't a problem. Though Ari wasn't about to mention what she did to keep fit. Serah seemed really open-minded, but Ari still didn't need anyone knowing she liked fighting.
"There's a cafe close by that does a caesar salad to die for," Ari leant against the wall while Serah tried her clothes on. "Terribly bad for you, of course. And decadent desserts to match."

Good. This girl had more than met her standards. She wasn't another bubbly-minded girl of useless value. She listened to Ari as she tried on the skirt, finding it to her liking.
Walking out of the changing room, obviously about to buy the clothes she picked. "Well, what are we waiting for? We should be on our way there, right?" She grinned, taking Ari's hand to rush her to the cash register.
Soon they were out of the store with their bags, walking down the pathway. "Were there any other stores you had in mind after this sure-to-be-awesome trip to the cafe?" Serah asked as they walked along, pulling her hairband down to reveal long hair, curled near the ends.

Ari's mind blanked out when Serah took her hand and began leading her to the cash register. Slowly, a smile spread across her face. So this was what it was like to have girl friends? Or friends of any kind, really, she corrected herself. She'd gotten used to hugs and like from her parents, but there was no need for hand holding, so this was new and different. And not bad at all, Ari decided.
Paying for her mountain of clothes, Ari trailed out of the shop after Serah carrying several bulging bags.
To Serah's query, Ari replied, "I'm good for clothes, I think. There wasn't anything else I was specifically after..." But she didn't want to just leave, either. This was fun. "Were you shopping for anything else in particular? Or we could always just window shop and see if anywhere looks good."
Someitme during their stroll, Ari moved up to take the lead, instead of following. "Over here," she said, detouring off to the left. The cafe wasn't as prominently placed as some others, but they did a lot of repeat business thanks to the great food. You just had to be in the know about it, to pick it over the flashier cafes with their average-tasting food.
Taking a seat, Ari knew it would be a few minutes til a server came over to take any orders. She offered Serah a menu, waiting for the girl to take it, before opening her own. Though Ari knew what she was in the mood for, they were always adding more to the menu and it never hurt to look.

"I had a couple of stores in mind. We'll go afterwards." Serah said vaguely, not wanting the other to realize she frequented toy stores. Maybe later, she could tell Ari she wanted to go into one. She followed Ari, taking a seat across from her. Nice place. Serah had never gone here before. It wasn't the most decorated place but it did have an appealing interior. Not a restaurant that Serah would normally walk into.
She opened the menu, indecisive over it as much as she was about shopping. Damn, all this food looked great. She let out a heavy sigh, silently narrowing her choices down to two. "Hm. I guess.. I'll have.. this choice?" She pointed to an item on the menu. of course, she had to add the sweet smoothie as well when the waiter came around.
"So Ari. heard anything interesting around school lately? Besides gossip which can get so tedious. Who cares if this girl gets together with that girl?" Serah sighed, a hand pressed against her temple. Gosh, hearing those were a headache. Being in an all-girls school was .. quite difficult to say the least. Might as well gather information. After all, Serah was always asleep to gather any in school.

Ari had the menu closed after a five-second perusal. Nothing new, which meant she could order what she'd been craving all morning. She let Serah order first. When the waiter turned to Ari, her order was short and simple. "Caesar salad. Iced chocolate. Bring a dessert menu later."
She turned a wan smile on Serah as they waited. "Gossip? I'm... not so up on that. Bad memory combined with the fact that I didn't go to middle school with anyone else... Even on the random chance people told me any gossip, I'd never get it right to pass on."
Or maybe that was the point of gossip? Honestly, Ari felt so out the loop of girly things. Especially teenage girly things, in a snobby girls-only school.
One eyebrow shot up at the mention of Crystal girls getting together. Ari quickly smoothed it back into place. She had nothing against people of other persuasions, she'd just never met any that she knew of. Or realised that such things happened at Crystal.
"I've heard people talking about monsters and terrorists lately, but even I'd have to be dead not to have picked that up from the news already," Ari said with a quick grin. "I think there was talk about them appearing at Meadowview recently. Though who knows if that's true or not? Probably just the Meadowview kids trying to make themselves special."

"You're quite the outcast. I don't see why though. Obviously, you've got more than the right stuff. I suppose you're lacking the crystal snobbery, that's the reason. It's a better thing that you're lacking that." Serah commented, speaking what she thought was the honest truth.
"I see." Serah took in the information quickly with an amused reaction, immediately agreeing with Ari. That information was tucked in for later. "Meadowview would probably be fine if they didn't have those shorts as uniforms for their males. I swear, red shorts aren't the smartest things they came up with." She sighed, rolling her eyes at the thought of the male uniforms.
"Sadly to say, I'm afraid I do have some crystal snobbery concerning the meadowview uniforms. Although Hillworth is looked down upon, the guys aren't too bad on the eyes." She admitted, knowing that her snobbery would have been blatantly obvious anyways. "It's refreshing to run into you, a person not having it though. At the very least, I know you wont judge me too badly if I do come to school with a horrible sweater."
The waiter walked out with their food in hand.

Ari laughed, a bit uneasily, at the mention of being an outcast. She grinned, but looked away. It wasn't like that was a new revelation or anything, but she knew her parents worried about her not fitting in and Ari honestly had no idea how to go about fixing that - or if she really wanted to, with what half the Crystal girls were like. Serah seemed very nice, though. It was a shame she was a grade below Ari, or they might have been able to share classes or something.
"I'm glad you lack the snobbery, too," she eventually replied. "I was starting to wonder if there were any nice girls at our school. It's nice to finally meet one of them!"
Ari leant back as the waiter delivered their food. "I'm afraid I probably wouldn't know if it was a horrible sweater or not. But I doubt it's possible - with your cute looks, you could pull anything off."
Well, maybe not red, with Serah's pink hair (Ari had much the same problem with pink clashing with her red hair). But Serah hadn't been so colourblind as to try for red tops in the clothing store, so Ari thought they were safe from testing the horrible sweater theory out.

"You're not bad either. I'm not going to lie and say you can pull everything off but there is a great deal you can do with that great red hair." Serah grinned, leaving them to their meal in silence as she started on her choices. After all, there was no doubt that Ari would look excellent in some colors. And horribly in others. But didn't everyone look horrible in certain colors anyways?
As they neared the ending of their meal however, Serah checked her bunny watch with a worried look. "Ack. I have to be somewhere at six. It totally slipped my mind. Shall we wrap this trip up with another store or so? Personally, I'm hoping we visit the stuffed animal store." Serah stated, hardly bothering to mask her massive love for the cute items in life.
