In Thread RP- Zulu and Black Wolf (foal)

Mila Farrell
Fresh spring rain had come and gone last evening, leaving the ground soaking wet and puddles everywhere. The quiet 'squish, squish, squish' of hooves on sopping ground are audible even at a distance as a little grullo colt steps through the bracken covering the rolling hills of the area. It's thick forest, in places, and heavy going, but he manages to get up to a vantage point with less trees and more grass, and he snorts and bucks in irritation and lively humor as a dribble of rain trickles down from a branch he moved aside with a nose, coating his head with water.

He's a scruffy thing, and, like all foals, seems to consist more of leg than anything else. Tiny black ears twitch back and forth warily, perfectly-attuned little radar. There's a black horn sprouting from his head, but it's almost invisible in the messy forelock that curls and weaves it's way around it.

The colt pauses for a moment at the top of the hill, surveying his surroundings like a little king.

Tweekend
Zulu looooooved this kind of atmosphere.

It was the perfect opportunity to do something crazy, and to disobey her father and mother! She was forbidden to leave the water, but she so badly wanted to explore the 'land'. It was a place foreign to her, with mysterious creatures that she could never see in the ocean!

Having the backbone of her mother, and the sneakiness of her father, it would not be hard to do what she wanted. Besides, her parents were exhausted enough dealing with her other sisters, that she knew for a brief amount of time, she could wander away on her own.

Slopping herself onto the wet land, she gleamed in awe at the weird tall things in the distance, and the strange dots floating in the sky. Her father had hated the land for many reasons that were still unknown to her, but she decided to ignore that thought and find any life around her. Continuing to bounce about, her eyes were fascinated with the strange nature around her.

Mila Farrell
The colt throws up his head as a scent hits his nostrils, and he swerves around at a ninety-degree angle, peering down the hill.

He was near the ocean, he was sure of that. He's been there before; he knows what fish are, and he's seen sharks (from a goodly distance away). But the thing - it's the first word that comes to mind, although 'monster' and 'creature of the deep' follow hard up on it - that is traipsing around below the hill is like nothing he's ever seen before, with scales and odd, too-bright colors like a wet flower, and an odd tail and just...weirdness. It is not, in his mind, something natural.

Wolf stares, for once at a loss on what he should do. One did not meet extraordinary monsters, even baby monsters, everyday. Wolves and mountain lions were a frequent hazard, but they were normal monsters, the kind you knew existed and had to contend with. He had never been expected to contend with something that looked like that.

Still. He was a child, and that went along with a mild curiosity, and so he moved cautiously down the hill, his little lion-like tail twitching, his ears anxiously moving back and forth, as he gives Zulu a wide berth, circling her.

Tweekend
Zulu noticed the creature coming towards her, and her response to that was at first exciting. She was smiling happily at the similar-sized boy, but when he started circling her, it became personal!

She held her breath and wondered why he was looking at her so strangely, so she figured she should take it as a personal attack!

"Excuse me, can I help you? This show isn't free ya know." With a light 'hmph' she lifted her snout in the air, portraying a bratty move she had seen one of her sisters do the other day. The strange reaction he had to her was making her uncomfortable, but as she watched him and looked at the little details on his body, she felt herself staring right back at him, wondering what he was.

"What are you?" she then said, with a bit of a lighter tone. Her prissy state had died down, and she was now generally interested in what he was.

Mila Farrell
It talked! That startled him. Normally, wolves and mountain lions didn't stop to chat, although he's never met a young one of those before, so he's uncertain if they do too. Although he can't be sure this is a young one of...whatever she is, he has a suspicion that she is, a suspicion further confirmed when she talks. And it is a female. No self-respecting male would act like that.

"I'm sorry," he says, figuring it never hurts to be polite in these sorts of circumstances, and coming to a halt several yards away, muscles tense for a quick getaway should one be needed. He is truly sorry, in a kind of a way; monster or not, she doesn't deserve to be stared at so much.

And she didn't know what he was? Well, that was...interesting.

"Um..." It's on the tip of his tongue to say 'whatever you don't eat,' but that might not go over well, so he changes it to: "I'm a unicorn. We're, er, fairly common up here on land. You're from the ocean?"

Tweekend
He apologized? That wasn't something common in her own family! But yet.. she smiled at him, and finally responded, "Its really ok." There was no reason to dwell on a mistake, so she was happy for his apology. He seemed like he was genuine enough, so she continued to watch him with a better attitude.

At his next comment, Zulu tilted her head drastically. "A Unicorn? I'm afraid I have never heard of those. And yeah, I am from the ocean. Born in the ocean, raised in the ocean, I am a Kelpi!" She was a proud little one, since her parents seemed to be the same way. "This is my first time on the land, that's probably why I don't know what a Unicorn is."

The male's appearance was pretty neat to her, and his tail almost seemed similar to her own! With that thought on her mind, she wagged hers and pointed her eyes at his fluffy one. "See, you have a cool tail too, so we can't be that different, right?"

Mila Farrell

He gets rather lost in the conversation. A kelpi? That's something he's never heard of, and he's heard of most of them: nightmarish kalonas and skinwalkers, wild winds, beautiful alicorns, delicate flutters. But nowhere in his parents' stories has there been anything about soquili from the ocean. Perhaps it was the distance...he didn't grow up near an ocean, after all.

"I've never heard of a kelpi, either," he says ruefully, stumbling over the unfamiliar word. "Do your kind come onto land a lot? Or do you have to stay in the water?" The idea of actually living in water for an entire lifetime makes him shudder. He can't swim very well, and the idea of suffocating under pounds and pounds of water is...unpleasant.

He peers back over his shoulder at his own tail, watching as it gives an involuntary flick. They did look a little similar. It's going to be awhile before he accepts that this 'Kelpi' is a soquili.

"Yeah...hey! Can you breathe underwater, too?" He wants to know, looking up again. "Unicorns...well, there are a lot of types up here. Wind, flutters, kalonas...although I've not met all the kinds. Just winds and normals and unicorns, really. Winds can fly. Unicorns can heal," he finishes, not without pride.

Tweekend
"Well, this is my first time on the land. I'm not supposed to be wandering over here, especially by myself. We are water dwellers, afterall." She giggled at his questions, his voice sounded so confused at what she was! She didn't think she was that strange, but then again, she didn't find most things as strange anyways.

"Of course I can breathe underwater. I have gills, and special skin, see?" she turned her face and neck to show the strange lines on her body. "I never realized there were so many kinds out here.." she would have to tell her sisters all about it later. Knowing her mother, she didn't even know such a world existed either.

"How is it, that you can heal?" her eyes widened, wondering how the heck THAT was possible. It wasn't strange to hearing about some that could fly, or some that may have been evil.. but some with magical powers? That was all too new to her!

"So if I ever get hurt you can heal me, right?" Maybe that would be an incredibly useful skill!

Mila Farrell
"Does something happen if you're too long out of water?" He's seen fish out of streams back home, and the result was always the same: eventual death. Of course, it happened quickly, and she doesn't look like she's suffering from anything at the present time. Still, how would he know? Maybe she's turning that color because she's sick. Or maybe it's to mimic a fish, he knows fish are bright colors, too. So are some land soquili, come to that, although he's not met many like that.

He edges a little closer, still wary, so that he can get a better look at the mentioned gills. Bizarre. "Are there any other soquili down there with you? I don't know if many up here know that you're done there, neither," he adds, feeling a bit pleased that he knows something that perhaps few else do. "We don't have any stories about you."

At the question, a grin lights up his typically more dour features. "I don't know how. It just...just sort of happens. Probably for the same reason you can breathe underwater right off the bat."

Tweekend
"Well no, I don't think so. I mean, my skin feels dry, but its alright." She was lucky, to have the ability to wander around where she wished. "My parents said that it is the worst to wander when the sun is too hot, and when the land is dry. It doesn't feel good on the skin apparently." That was probably how water felt against his skin when he was in it too long!

She almost felt special by how much he was asking, but it was never really clear to her how vast the world was. Maybe she was still too immature to realize it, but the male seemed much more concerned on how different of a breed she was.

"Well apparently there are more Kelpi, and fish like creatures. I have only been around my family." Stories? Well, they had plenty of stories of their own! "Kelpi stories are much too personal for land dwellers. Unlike my father, my mother has a vast history of being a warrior. Those are the types of tales that the Kelpis speak about, so thats probably why they never drift up here." With a slight frown, she hated remembering what her mother had been through.

"So its like an instinct, a natural one at that." she tried to bring a bubbly face back to her expression, and hoped to hide her once before gloomy thoughts. "So what's your name then, so I can remember you?"

Mila Farrell
"Ahh...I see," he says, although he doesn't really. But she seems to be something like part-fish and part-soquili, and he wonders what the gods were thinking when they created a mixture of both. Probably the same thing as they were when they messed with birds and soquili to create the wind soquili, and the bat and soquili to create the kalona. At least he, as far as he knows, is purely unique...he's never met another creature with a similar horn before.

Stories being much too personal? That confuses him, and he falls silent. Stories were for telling, so the soquili in them could be remembered, or if not the soquili, at least the themes and lessons. He feels suddenly strangely defensive, and so his manner turns a little standoffish as he answers her question.

"I'm Black Wolf," he says, ears tipping back a degree.

Tweekend

Black Wolf.. she would surely remember that. "Well I am Zulu, and it was nice meeting you Unicorn. But I really should be going back home now, I am sure my parents are swimming around the area in panic while looking for me.." she sighed, and shook her head in an lazy expression. Her parents were so predictable, but she still loved them so.

"You take care, ok? And maybe I will see you around again." With a light wink, she then turned her body and made her way into the water, which felt beyond refreshing on her limbs. Before Black Wolf could notice, she had already plopped back into her domain.

She would definitely report on everything he had said, and she suddenly felt beyond confident for finding such a spectacle on her own. Unicorns.. and some that could fly? Life was even more interesting, now that she knew there were more to meet in the future.
