Lillies last post made me think of what would happen if I took a trip to the FCC =D

huh?

The only way to ensure someone keeps a secret is to kill them. ninja

@Lillian: See, most people have it stuck in their heads that whatever bad things are put down in a list either don't apply to them or are total B.S. Like plagiarism. Everyone agrees it is bad, and yet fanfics are EVERYWHERE. Everyone knows it's wrong, but people justify it because they like the movie/anime/show/game/book. Did the rights holder give them permission? No, they just do it anyway.

I hadn't noticed. sweatdrop
Anyway, to reply to the edit: Then why not go to the RPs and make it more personal and specific? A year and half ago or something, some guy rage quit the guild because he was getting small bits of basic advice, and I was glad, because he didn't belong here and was too ******** daft and narcissistic to realize he was in a guild for people that want to improve, and to realize that he sucked. If anyone is going to have a problem with some suggestions, a critique in a critique thread, or idea on how to have an RP that does suck, then they need to find an RP guild, not an improvement guild. They also need to read that etiquette guide.
Frankly, when I make a critique request thread, I want what I posted to be torn to shreds. I won't improve much otherwise. I would be thrilled if you would be inclined to do so. The only time a suggestion or critique should be found insulting is if contains an actual insult to the person behind the account, or if it lacks any substance. (Substance would be what is wrong and how to fix it. Lacking would be a bash like 'it sucks'.)

Lillian, that makes it sound very much like you are asking me to track down every one of those RPs and characters and inform their authors that they need to shred their material and start over. I tried that once, back in the Zerg resistance days, and it killed an entire group. No one wants to hear that the material they believe is perfect isn't worthy of wiping someone's rear.

Just a couple when you have some time and are hanging out here but the Main Forum is quiet. Or I could just make a list of my requests if you still don't want to critique someone that -godforbid- doesn't have a balls to not be offended.

EDIT: In those cases it is a self confidence issue, and they get their from ignorance. I get mine from improving something I already know is horrendous, and by getting fewer things to improve upon after I incorporate the suggestions.

If you want to go through that, then by all means make me a list. Just don't complain to me when you get PMs from as many pissed off members about how you asked me to massacre their material.

Eh, I'd say fanfics are fair use. They aren't exactly selling them as their own works, right?

Doesn't matter. Plagiarism is anything involving using someone else's printed work without their express permission. Authors have the legal right to sue anyone that participates in a fanfic. The only reason they don't is because it would destroy their fanbase.

Here are some to start with. To be nice to all involved, I thought we'd start with RPs and requests by people that shouldn't make this problematic. The ones above the dashes are the ones that either need the most help or will receive critique best.
Profile Critique Wanted
Angelic Betrayal
Post Critiques wanted
Vampire Manor
------------------
Battle Royale
Village of Screams
Silent Voices
When Things go Wrong
Closed Forever
Born of Sinister

Pick and choose the ones that seem interesting. If you care for more fuel to burn, then try this thread. Most of the people that post there seem capable of taking a punch and not needing mommy's comfort.

Your wish is my command. I will begin as soon as I have some free time. Occupied with a few other projects at the moment.

Have fun, and good luck with our other projects.

Your vampires have been slain. You did most of the work for me.

And the other projects are all either taken care of or pretty much dead. My rugrats are too lazy to further their characters. One of them has the goal of challenging a character I made from scratch and worked all the way up to ascend to godhood the hard way. His goal has gotten to be rather insulting at this point.

If you want a real challenge, try Sir Awesomealot's guide. He's been bumping his advice request thread in the main forum for a while now.

I'll check it out, but if it is the etiquette guide, then it would actually be the easiest.

EDIT: And here I was starting to wonder if the reason you were taking so long to reply was because my editorial pissed you off.

I'm not particularly familiar with steam punk, but I could try.

Sorry for not getting to this earlier. But well, my setting was a little wierd. It was a eccentric mix of Steampunk and fantasy. Mostly set in a European feudal kingdom...and mixed alot of crusades age fantasy with steampunk themes. Especially in the races available for play...we got everything from Humans to Harpies...and some leeway to be half-breeds, so long as your always half-human.

And there was a whole aspect of Magic Versus Technology. Specifically in this setting I introduce my "Tech and Mana oppose one another" rule. This house rule states that your character can develop skills in Magical Formulae or Technological Theory, but not both.

If a Mage picks up say...A revolver...and tries to use it, the mechanics of it will backfire in his hands, potentially lethally.

Same goes for an artificer or inventor. They can't use scrolls, magic rings, or wands...lest those produce dangerous magical mishaps.

I'll have to PM you the setting, see if you think it's up to snuff for the guild =D

Sounds interesting so far. But that might just be my curiousity about how well magic and tech are balanced out.

Honestly, probably not very well. I didn't have time to devise a well-balanced dice or numbers system before we were supposed to begin play. So it's all freeform, which means I have to keep a weather eye for power gamers who want hyper-meteor spells and steampunk lightsabers.

Hell, my character was a Centaur with a steamwork golem leg and a lightning gun. >_> Probably do something new for this time around though
