. . . . . Stafford, a small rural town rarely marked on maps, has a total population of 2,836, give or take a few. There is no hospital, only a clinic. The year-round school does not separate classes by age, but by age range, and resides in a small building just outside the center of town. There is a diner and a few shops along the main road that make up the center of town. The small police station is on the outskirts of town and the employees are not a part of Stafford's community. There is a junkyard hidden in the maze of roads within the limits of the town, but every-day trash is taken by residents to a dump in a neighboring town.
. . . . . Overall the town is quiet, save for the hum of animals. Even crime is low, which is a good thing because many of the adults have hostilities towards the police. The few job opportunities within Stafford has some effect of its own. Some adults commute to work to either a large city 120 kilometers to the north or to the large city 140 kilometers to the west. There is land and a few farm fields that supply much of the food for the town. Petersburg, to the southeast, receives benefits from its close proximity to such a small town. Because of that Petersburg has stretched closer to Stafford. Petersburg offers gas stations, modern shops and products, as well as jobs for residents.
. . . . . Much of the influence over the town resides in three of the oldest families of Stafford. While some branches of these families have parted under new married names or moved away, the main branches still hold much power. There are a few new families but most residents have ties to the town within their family history. The heads of each family are members of the town's governing council, sometimes with successors of the family also members. There are members that are not directly part of one of the three families. The three head families, together, own the majority of the land of Stafford. If someone rents, it is one of these three families that they pay.
. . . . . Most inhabitants walk or ride bicycles when traveling though town, and the streets are all made of dirt. The dirt road require strict and low speed limits which further deters vehicular traffic. Because of this students walk to school, the little ones with an older sibling or neighbor. Another effect is that all vehicles are noticed and most residents know who owns what vehicle.


. . . . . What makes this village interesting is its residents. A group of children have become friends each hiding something from their past. What each hides is either something horrible that they have done, or something horrible done to them. They play, even seriously, such as playing gold fish with an old, worn deck. They each hide their past, but things are changing. Their pasts are catching up, even if they moved away then returned, in an attempt to escape. Once this group is finished, Stafford will never be the same.


. . . . . The current setting is spring, in the year 1983. Yes, I am hinting at some violent actions. Yes, this is loosely based on Higurashi no Naku Koroni, also known as When the Cicadas Cry, but without the demon, time repeats, and virus.
