True to Bell's hutch, Xavier was quite hungover the day after the party. Hungover and miserable, as the two did, in fact, tend to go hand in hand. Had he been drinking to forget ? Maybe. In a way.
There'd been images replaying in his mind whenever he closed his eyes, so he'd settled to keep them open, in spite of his headache. He was still curled up in bed, staring blankly at the vaguely fuzzy shape that was the ceiling, not truly seeing it but rather lost so far in his own thoughts that Bell or Ainsley might have come in, and he most likely would never have noticed them.
He'd been through big battles before, yes, but nothing quite like this. Nothing as... horrible as this. Chaos had it, and chaos had hit hard... Was this kind of savagery what lurked deep within their hearts, always waiting for that strange voice he'd heard to come stoke it ?
Did they truly not realize what they had done ? Knowing that the civilians where all somehow safe and
alive was a comfort, but...
There had been senshi who had died.
There had been knights, too, who did not come home.
He'd seen quick deaths, starseeds pulled too expertingly. He'd seen stabbings, he'd seen being pulled limb from limb. He'd seen so many shades of wrong, so much sheer violence that it was impossible to keep track of all of it – thankfully enough.
Some had died before he could get to them. He felt like he had failed them.
The restoration of the surrounding and the fact the negaverse had been driven back had been a reason to rejoice indeed... But there'd been a dark shadow looming in Themis' mind, long after he'd been carted over to Virgo's outpost to heal.
Some would say that this was the proof of the negaverse's sheer darkness. Proof that they, along with the senshi who fell to the sway of chaos, weren't worth saving. Being a senshi was pretty much a moral pitfall – there were so many how or why's when you got down to it.
This particular question wasn't one Xavier had truly stopped to ponder. He was not an aggressive fighter, not unless his buttons were pushed. He'd always been a protector, a nurturer, seeking to protect his allies and the poor civilians who ended up stuck in the fight in between two sides and multiple kinds of super-powered beings.
The day before, Themis had failed his allies, and he felt horrible for it. It was a war, yes, and it certainly was impossible to save them all... But...
But yet he kept thinking, kept wondering what he should have done better. What could assure the safety of his loved ones, at the very least ? Start small, then expend...
He just sighed.
Still, the idea wouldn't leave his mind so easily...
