So far, the night had been... Well, calm was pushing it, since he already had dusted two youma in the hour he'd been out, but certainly not as eventful as it could have been. Eventful in a bad way.
Normal, perhaps, as silly as he sounded. The normal, nightly fare of a senshi in destiny city.
He was continuing his patrol until the aura of another senshi caught his attention. Lower than his, and alone at that. Thankfully he didn't feel any agents nearby, but...
Might as well be careful.
So he swerved from his current route to go see if he could find the senshi he was feeling.
She had been uncertain, to a small extent, about heading out that night, especially after her last outing. It had given her something to think about; something that she had pondered long and hard on while going through her yoga routine before she'd finally given up, snatching her henshin pen to power-up and head out.
Abigail, now Sailor Thisbe, headed for the first place that made sense as a thinking ground; Destiny City Memorial Park. The fall of night had chased most people from the park, leaving the only part of it that she had been interested in (the playground) blissfully empty and delightfully silent. She'd given the merry-go-round a quick spin to start it up before hopping on, letting the whirl of the world around her distract her from what was for a moment. It was no wonder she would be easy to find, as careless as she was being.
He'd ventured from the buildings toward the park, following the vague energy signatures that every powered being in destiny city let out. It still wasn't exact science, so it took a few minutes before he finally saw her, in the merry-go-round.
A part of him wanted to scold her for being so careless, but the other part was caught wondering how long it had been since he'd been on one of these things and wanting to hop along the ride.
It was rude to do so without asking, through, so instead one jump landed him on top of the horizontal bars. "Enjoying your night ?"
Well, at least he seemed a great deal friendlier than her last customer.
Unlike the last time she had been surprised, the sound of a foreign voice caused her to jump slightly this time, shoulders becoming tense as her eyes narrowed in the direction of the one who had interrupted her silence. Her gaze drifted over him, sizing up his uniform as though pondering whether or not she should continue to be on her guard or if she could let her defenses slip just a bit to carry on a proper conversation. "Senshi?" The only question that really mattered for the moment; more important than the question he had asked, at the very least. It would determine whether or not this was going to become another fight or flight situation.
"I was. I might still."
'Senshi ?' She asked. Auras could be difficult, and it gave Themis the general idea that she hadn't been on this ride long.
"Yes." He said with a nod, not moving from his perch less he might end up scaring her away before she could assess for herself that she was no enemy. His aura was strong, at eternal - she would feel it, sooner or later.
"Themis." He looked like... some sort of odd bird, with large wing-ribbons flared out behind him as he crouched on top of the horizontal bars. "And you would be ?"
"Thisbe." She murmured as the merry-go-round came to a slow stop, leaving her facing the bars that he was perched on. "I'd ask if you were a good witch or a bad witch, but something about the white feathers doesn't quite scream Negaverse to me..." A light smirk curved her lips as she watched him before hopping lightly off of the playground toy.
"Do we all get big bows like that or is it something specific to you because of your sphere? they are called spheres, aren't they? Or power bases... Or something. The brochure really wasn't all to clear on the matter."
Well, he'd never heard it put it that way before. Had she ran into a corrupted senshi. "You'll probably know it when you run into a corrupt." He said. "They auras are... Really, really ******** up. They stand out a lot."
He wasn't sure if one could not feel that, but that might be his... bias talking. He found himself loathing corrupted senshi the more he fought them. A slippery slope, given that he was trying to avoid losing himself to this war.
"We all get them, at eternal." A precise jump landed him on the merry-go-round, sending the playground equipment spinning once more. "They tend to be... smaller, through." Bitter ? Perhaps.
"I've always called them spheres." He shrugged. "And yeah. the cats.... Can be a little vague. Was there anything you'd like to know ?" He offered. He had never been one to tell his outlook on this war and boast it at the undeniable truth, but he could present her with his outlook so she could build her own opinion, find her own place.
"Some of us are corrupt? Are we talking politically speaking or just plain bad?" There was a slight trace of humor in her tone this time, although judging by the look on his face it was likely something that she should be taking seriously. "I'll do what I can to keep an eye out for them, either way..." A warning was a warning.
"I've always believed that size didn't matter as long as you knew how to weild what you had. I wouldn't worry too much about tiny bows... Especially not as a boy. I'd worry a bit more if you had a big, flamboyant one." Teasing, again, eyes lightly dancing as she looked him over once more. "Eternal, eh? Is that in reference to longevity or is it just a power level? It wasn't exactly explained to me how we go about this whole process... Fighting the good fight; getting knocked down notches by angry Negaverse witches..."
Okay, that got a laugh out of him, through he sobered out quickly enough, expression stern from the seriousness of the words he was about to speak. "Just plain bad. Corrupted senshi. They wear all black, have... holes on their chests and forehead." He shook his head. "Senshi the negaverse has taken... It... breaks them, in multiple ways. Or so it seems. All those I've met were ruthless, with one purple haired one being..." He paused. "Particularly nasty."
It didn't sound like he'd had good experiences, with good reason. "One of them nearly killed someone very dear to me. You'll do good to keep an eye and be careful."
"I figure it could be worse." Like... bright a** pink or something. Ack. "It's hard to maneuver with them, through. I didn't have a bow at all before this one, so maybe if you have a bow all the time you get used to it easier ?" Eh. He'd still rather be without, to be honest. "Power level. Normal senshi, Super senshi, Eternal senshi. A cat finds you, deems you ready, then upgrades you. Or something like that. They don't always warn you." His powerup to eternal had been a surprise, to be honest. If a well-timed surprise.
"Angry witches, hm ? Any hexes you can tell me about ?"
She seemed to be taking mental notes for the moment, commiting the little things he was saying to her to memory. Black holes. Something like that would be hard to miss and even harder to forget. "Must be something about purple hair..." She murmured idly, shaking her head after a moment before her attention was all his again.
"I haven't noticed the manueverability problem all that much, yet. I just wish it offered a bit more cushion when it came to skidding across the pavement." She huffed, delicate little nose wrinkling as she glanced down at her palms, still amazed at how neatly the lace had knitted itself back together. "No hexes that I've noticed, but a nasty kick and a mean punch... For a girl."
One well-aimed kick sent the merry-go-round spinning again, when it started to slow again. Apparently Themis liked to keep himself amused during lessons. This wasn't typical, but... Really, was anything about this whole thing typical at all ?
He didn't really think so. You took the situations you could get, and hoped the others would listen, and hopefully survive.
"Hm ?" He asked at her first comment.
"Oh, yeah, I've heard nasty stories of asphalt burns and the like. I have no idea why you all have skirts, really. It's not really practical." And in the dead of winter... Well. At least he had a coat to give out. "Yeah, some of them punch like trucks. The stronger they are, the harder they hit."
Distracted by the spinning of the merry-go-round, she turned to look at it for a moment before grabbing on to one of the bars, giving it another good spin before hopping on, smiling once more like a delighted child. "Because we're girls and aparantly that's how this sort of thing works... At least from my own experience, although I really can't say that I wear skirts all that often outside of this. And dance. Can't forget about dance. Maybe they figure that it makes a good distraction? Whoever this 'they' is, at least."
She wanted to know who it was, really, on some level... And on another completely different one, she didn't. She very much didn't; not when she knew choice words could and likely would be involved.
"I can't say I've run into many of them yet. I'm pretty new to this great, cosmic battle... It seems like there's a lot to take in; a lot to learn."
"Yeah, but you're... super powered fighting amazons. Or something." It was just stupid, really. Was the whole uniform business based on their past life ? After seeing his world, he had to think that maybe it was... Through he had never gotten a good look at... himself.
Dae'Maern him, really. The thought made him frown thoughtfully, a sharp contrast to her child-like amusement. At least he had never been in danger of wearing a skirt.
...He hoped.
"There is a lot to take in. I've been doing this for almost a year." Scary s**t. Almost a year. Mid-October. Almost a year and he'd nearly died more times that he liked to think about. "I'd like to say I know everything about this, but... I don't. I just know what I believe in, what I want to do."
"If we're Amazons, what exactly does that make you?" She flashed a smirk at him as she turned her head, hood finally falling back in the whirl of the merry-go-round to expose pale blonde hair in a playful pixie cut. She seemed so young at first glance, especially in such a care free state.
"A year, hm? Makes you wonder, almost, what takes them so long to find some of us... Or do you think it's just that they didn't need us until now? It's a weird thought, really..." Never mind that, all in all, it could be that her family had just recently drifted back to Destiny City when she and her sister had both decided to attend DCU after a good, long discussion about their education options.
"What do you believe in, Themis?"
"One of the few warlords ?" He said, amused. "Im not kidding. I think I can count the male senshi I know on two hands. I know countless girls doing this, guys seem pretty rare." Really.
She looked so young, with that hood gone. It did strike him, through with his ponytail zipping along he didn't look that much older. The scene was amusing in itself - two 19 years old having a go at the merry-go-round.
"From what I understand... There's just a moment when your... starseed is ready." Did she even know what a starseed was ? "A... crystal, in your chest, near your heart. That's a starseed. Im not too sure what it is exactly, but... like your soul, I guess ? If your starseed gets taken, you die. Negaverse agent can try to take it. Cats can sense that and awaken you."
He'd been lucky so far - it hadn't happened to him yet. But the memory of Camelot's face overtaken by pain was enough to convince him not to go out of his way to make it happen.
"I believe this whole thing is messed up." Eloquent, that. "That what truly matter is protecting people. The civilians, those who have nothing to do with this but end up dragged into it. To dust youma, to keep others safe. I want to protect those who need protecting. There are... others more skilled than me in dealing with the negaverse directly."
"Hercules?" Her brow quirked, a teasing smirk curving her lips as the merry-go-round came to a slow spinning halt, head trying to process the light feeling of dizziness as she hopped down before taking a seat on the edge. Her eyes drifted back up to Themis, watching him for a moment before patting the metal base beside her.
"So this senshi business is, in general, a chick thing... But there are a few good men out there who have decided to pick up the mantle and fight the fight along with us. Little fuzzbuckets have spider senses that tingle when our souls are ripe for the plucking and all in all it's a real b***h because unless the right cat finds you, you're on your own when it comes to making heads or tails of things?" She seemed to be piecing things together in her own way; trying to make some sort of sense of things in words she would remember and understand.
"Youma are the ugly monster things, right? And the Negaverse are the oddballs in suits." So eloquent with her wording. "... And spheres differ from senshi to senshi. What's yours?" A pause. "Provided you don't mind me asking."
"Now you're just flattering me." He laughed, pausing a moment to regain his bearings. The advantage of doing this as a senshi meant that the world stopped spinning much, much quicker than it normally would have. It wasn't too long before he did a backflip over the middle and sat next to her.
...That was perhaps the best damn recap of this madness he'd heard, ever. He would need to remember that, if only for humor's sake. Hahaha, fuzzbuckets.
He was sure if her ever called Chloe that, he would get skinned.
"That's pretty spot on, but also you can end up with the right cat, but think this whole thing is so damn ******** up that you don't bother to ask questions that they would have been happy to answer because you're convinced this is all just a crazy a** dream." He sounded like he had experience.
"I was awakened in a McDonalds bathroom. Seriously." Hey, he was at the point where he could actually laugh about it, so why not. "Youma are the things right out of Alien, yeah. Both they and agent give off auras. You'll get better at feeling them the more you do it. It's always pretty hard at first." It was, after all, a whole new sense one had to learn.
"Noise. I can... use the noise around me to confuse enemies. Or use it to make a shield."
"I'm sure, depending on the light the whole speech is given in, that it would be easy enough to imagine it was all a dream... Especially if a bump in the head was included before the introductory speech." She paused, thinking for a moment before shaking her head slowly. "It was an alley for me; hiding behind a dumpster. Makes for really awkward first time talk, don't you think?" There was, at the very least, a trace of playful flirtatiousness in her voice, but it was mostly just honesty regarding the situation.
"I'm the Senshi of Woe. I have no idea what it means, or what it does... But whatever my attack did was enough to nearly bring a Nega to tears. I didn't stick around after that. I just... Ran." Her brow furrowed as though she wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea of what had happened; or, more likely, not knowing what had happened. "Are we just supposed to know these things? Or is it that most powers have some sort of physical manifestation so there's no guessing?"
"I think they're all awkward, really." Themis shrugged. "I mean, it's not like anyone expects a talking cat to pop out of nowhere and shove a pen at you." Honestly. Who expected that ?
"You don't really... know these things. At least not when you first awaken. The cat had to explain it to me. For upgrading... It just kind of... came to me." It was really hard to explain, really. He had just known.
"Your super magic will be the same as what you have now, but stronger. Eternal is a completely different thing. At least it's been that way for everyone I've known so far. Some powers have physical manifestations. Some don't. I think it depends on the sphere. Mine don't really have a physical effect... The air just ripples a bit." The shield was more apparent, through.
"You might have grown up watching old cartoons from the 80's, though. Or you might really, really be into the idea of being a magical girl." Her smirk was still there, still playful, as though she found the idea entertaining enough when just talking about it, even if the seriousness of the situation was real. Very real.
"I guess I'll see how the power thing works as I go, then... Or I'll stumble across someone who's willing to play crash test dummy with me and let me know just what happens when the Veil of Woe comes down on them." It sounded so cheesy; like a goofy video game. "All I know is that I need to be touching them for it to work..."
"Well, I can tell you for a fact that I am so not in the idea of being a magical girl." He gave a mock-pout. It was all in good jest, really.
Beside, he would look horrible wearing a skirt.
"I know my magic affects other senshi a lot less than it affect the negaverse... So that might be something to keep in mind, if you find a guina pig and the results seem a lot different." It was handy, in his case. His allies got a faint headache at worse, which was better than an amazing cacophony, he, figured.
"Mm. Magical boy in your case, then." She chuckled softly, leaning back on her gloved hands as she tilted her head up, peering at the sky above her. Thisbe fell silent for a moment, thinking on what Themis had said about his sphere and how it effected others.
"Woe... Kind of seems like an equal opportunity sphere to me. I mean, if I was just thinking about it and what it could be. Our side can't be the only one to feel some sort of distress over this whole mess, after all... I mean, yeah, I haven't been at this for long and I haven't met many of them... But they think they're right too, don't they?"
"They do, but then... That's how most wars happen, doesn't it ? Both sides think that they're in the right..." He sighed.
Sometimes it got too much, he had to admit. Too much to think about. To much to live through. None of them were born solders, and he was no exception.
And yet he couldn't ignore it. Couldn't ignore those who suffered every day from the repercussion of this war.
Thisbe seemed to get thoughtful again, falling silent as she stared at the vast expanse of stars above her. It was a lot to take in; more than she had ever thought she would need to accept... But Abigail Lee, the girl she was beneath it all, had long ago convinced herself she could handle anything. It was just going to be weird, trying to keep it from her sister.
That thought was followed by a face; a mildly annoyed face. She shook it off as she stood up, glancing around quickly before looking back to the other senshi. "So, Themis. Is there anything else you think a newbie should know right off the bat?"
It was Thisbe's words that finally kicked Themis out of his own thoughts. Things a newbie needed to know... "Finding a team might not be a bad idea. There are a few out there, and it's added safety." It was a case of do what I say, not as I do - he had no team, not since the Basterds all but fell apart.
Sometimes... Sometimes it got lonely. Sometimes he even wondered... But no, he wasn't the kind of person who could hold a team together.
Could he ?
"Also... Do you know how to use your phone ?"
"Team?" Her brow quirked as though that was a new thought; working with others. It would be smart, though, really. Especially for someone just starting out. "Right. Look for like minded suckers." She grinned before pausing for a moment at the mention of phone.
"Oh! You mean this thing?" She reached into the lining of her corset where she had tucked the odd bit of technology against her shirt. "I've played with it a bit, gotten it to make a few boops and a beep or two, but nothing specific. One of the icons looks like a radar, though?" Almost hopeful. It all sounded so fascinating.
Like-minded suckers. That was one way to put it, really. If he had any idea of what was going on lately, team-wise, he might have been able to guide her further on this. But really, he had no idea.
He felt like an island, sometimes...
"Yeah. If you scan another senshi..." His own phone took form in his hands and he pointed it toward Thisbe - it gave a cheerful little boop. "Then they're added to your contact list and you can send then messages. Map shows you a map of the city as well as the rough location of other senshi. Signal is basically a sos sent to all the phones in a certain radius if you need help."
"Well isn't that nifty." She smirked as she held up her own phone, centering it on Themis for a moment before letting it scan him, figuring that fair was fair and he'd boop'd her first. She then sent him a quick, silly little message to confirm that she had understood at least this part of the lesson before moving on.

"So if I'm ever in more trouble than I think I can handle... That's the best way of calling for help. Y'know, short of screaming and hoping someone's around to hear it." A light nod was given as she stretched out again. "So much to take in... It's going to be an interesting summer, Themis." Interesting was likely putting it lightly.
"Yeah, that's the safest way. Or if you feel a strong aura, try to run toward it." Pretty much all the eternals he knew were willing to help in a pickle.
"It's been an interesting year." Themis shook his head. Well, almost a year - october was fast approaching.
It all sounded so crazy, so insane. One year...
Then, finally, he looked at his phone... and smiled.

Not the most typical answer, but he'd read it on the internet around where the new movie had come out and it had struck him as such a mad hatter thing to say.
Thisbe chuckled softly as she glanced at her phone, eyes dancing as she looked back up to Themis afterwards. "Strong, positive aura. I'm assuming I should run, run as fast as I can from those on the other side... At least until I get a better feel for what I can do."
That said she tilted her head, looking up towards the sky for a moment before glancing back down to check the time stamp showing on her phone. She vanished it for the moment, finding that she was still rather amused that she could do such a thing, before lightly dusting her skirt off. "... I think, Themis, that this is when we part ways for the evening. I hadn't realized just how late it was... And I have a final for one of my summer courses in the morning." She smirked lightly. "Thanks for the lessons."
"No problem." He said, with a nod. "You stay safe, okay ? If you ever need anything, just give me a call."
He nodded, and watched her leave. There would always be new senshi...
And there would always be a need of experienced figures to guide them. These... Were the kind of shoes he could feel, he felt.
He stayed there a moment, sitting on the merry-go-round, before finally getting up and leaving.
