Did I Miss Something? (Ellie + ********* style="font-size: 11px">The cake had been a lie.

Again.

********* was starting to wonder about her luck when it came to cakes. She and Derpraline had managed to sneak to the Masquerade Ball with the intention of finding and chowing down on some cake. Yet, the moment they set paw into the Convention Center, all hell broke loose. Even as a cat, she felt that overwhelming sensation to get that crystal. Whatever crystal that happened to be. Amidst all the chaos, the manx was not able to catch a single glimpse of it. The miniature manx rather awkwardly took the cream Persian kitten up by the scruff of the neck and almost seemed to waddle underneath a table. It was rather difficult to try and carry around a kitten that was almost the same size as oneself.

"We need to stay out of sight child," she warned as she occasionally peered out to see Senshi and Negaverse agents alike run about and attack things without any restraint to speak of. What good could one cat have made? The fight was long and hard, but finally that crystal completely vanished. Within seconds, the Negaverse had retreated. It wasn't difficult to tell, since such a large gathering of them to suddenly vanish was hard for a guardian to miss.

Another thing was hard to miss. That feeling of disappointment. Even the tailless feline felt it somewhere in the pit of her round stomach. The crystal, whatever it had been, was now with the Negaverse.

Finally creeping out from the safety of her shared hiding place, pale green eyes scanned about the room silently. Even the jingle of her bell seemed to fall upon deaf ears.

"Do not despair."

It was the only thing ********* could hear. Her pale green eyes lifted from the floor and found something gentle there to comfort their crushed spirits. The manx had never met Ancient Lady, but she had this sort of aura that put the guardian in awe. Rather than remain upon her four paws, she bowed down deeply towards the regal specter.

"Find the lights that wait for you... Find them, and find hope."

_________________

It had only been less than a day, but ********* mind was reeling. She had immediately gone in search of both of her girls. The first stop on her route was the tomboy. She didn't even wait for after school to approach the girl. No, the moment the tomboy stepped out of the house to jog to school, she was greeted with a "Good morning, Ellie!" Despite the good face she was putting on, the tailless feline was absolutely anxious.

"...Uh...?" The cat was at her house in the morning? The teenager blinked, not quite certain what to make of the fact the cat was seeking her so early in the day. "Ain'tcha got someplace t'be? Yer usually too busy t'see me at this time, cat."

"Well, I can be grateful you are not a fool then." With a firm nod, she stood up, as if acknowledging that Ellie needed to walk.

Shrugging a bit, the blonde began to walk, which the manx should have been grateful for. It would give her more time to talk as she needed to. "Alright... seriously, what's this 'bout?" Gold eyes faced forward, keeping her path in sight so it didn't seem so strange that she was having a conversation with a cat.

"Something major happened last night. Something that will affect this city... perhaps even more than the city." Would it be cliche to say the world? Probably, so the cat avoided that phrase.

"Ya gonna tell me details, or ya gonna be vague?" The tall girl knew that the manx usually left lots of details out. It was one of those things that drove Ellie crazy at times. As a senshi, she fought hard, but what was she really fighting for? If someone was to ask Sailor Iris the answer to this, she probably couldn't give a real answer. She did it because it needed to be done. Ellie did not think that was a good reason.

Surprisingly, the cat did something Ellie never thought would happen.

"Sure! Last night... if you had gone to the Masquerade... you would have been a part of a mad chase for a crystal."

"I hate jewelry."

"It wasn't a usual crystal. Senshi and Negaverse agents were fighting tooth and nail to get it."

A brow quirked, but the tomboy kept looking ahead, pausing for a moment to wait for a crosswalk to turn. "Was it f*ckin' huge or somethin'?"

"I don't think it was. I didn't get a good look at it." Try she didn't get any look at it. "However, I think it is important. If the Negaverse is trying to get it..."

"...ya got a point I s'pose..." There was a pause in the conversation as the duo passed an apartment building where a little old woman was sweeping the steps. Yet when they were a reasonable distance away, Ellie spoke again. "So, who got th'crystal last night?"

"...the Negaverse..." Ears pinned back slightly. "However... I think..." There was a pause.

For once, the golden eyes broke from the decided path ahead.

"Ya think...?"

"I think...there might be more crystals..." The feline's mind once more brushed over Ancient Lady's words. "Find the lights that wait for you... Find them, and find hope."

The tomboy was about a block away from the school. The cat knew this as well, since she was well versed with wandering the streets. Rather than keep walking, her shoes eventually slowed and stopped.

"What does this mean t'me?"

"Well... that's for you to decide, not me. However... you would have understood more if you had been there."

"I hate cake, I hate formal events, and I hate dressin' up."

"Tell me how you really feel!" Even if the laugh sounded genuine, the feline was forcing herself to sound lighthearted. She still needed more time to weigh this in her mind.

"...but seriously, what does this mean t'me?" Eyes were on the cat again. "Like... should I be crystal huntin' or somethin'? How th'heck will I know if somethin' is this crystal that ya spoke of? I ain't exactly a jeweler or anythin', ********* was a moment of silence as one fact seemed to sink in. Ellie called the cat by her name.

"You know, you only do that when you are trying to make me feel better, right?"

Ellie crossed her arms and grinned at the cat. "Ya can't fool me. Either way, I take it ya don't have th'answer to my questions?"

The cat's head bobbed up and down, jingling livening up the air again. "You are correct."

"Are we done?"

"I suppose, I need to find Lilith to tell her about this as well..."

There was more silence.

"Uh... I guess... tell 'er 'hi' fer me?" With a shrug, the girl finally began to move again, not bothering to say goodbye. She jogged, leaving the cat behind at the corner of the street.

********* could have easily remained behind to muse over what had just happened. However, idle feet never got anything done. With a sigh, the feline was back to her paws and on the move. It just meant she had more to think about as she searched for her other girl.

Scars from the Accident

It would never be the same. No matter how hard Ellie tried, it would honestly never be the same.

It took about three and a half weeks of spending all time possible on repairs for the Spectrum before it was ready to go home. Grades had begun to slip, which both of her parents seemed to grumble about in private, and the social scheme was almost invisible. Hell, even that senshi business had slipped between the cracks in comparison.

Yet now, as she stood next to Phil and Hank, admiring the final product of the repairs (sans paint job), the tomboy knew it would never be the same. It specifically being the Spectrum.

If her father's friend was capable of reading minds, he certainly didn't seem to hide it at the moment. "Alright, Ellie. Tell me, where is the point where you can tell this is an obvious repair from an accident?"

The tomboy just heaved out a sigh initially. It was one thing to fix something up from junk pile, but it was another thing to fix something up after some damage had been done to it. To the untrained eye, a repair was a repair, and the damage that had happened was no longer there. To a professional, the damage was never gone. No matter how small the signs were, there would always be clues that repairs had been done. Phil had once likened it to scars.

The Spectrum had a scar, and for the student, it was glaringly obvious.

Hank cleared his throat, as if reminding her that he wanted her to answer his question.

Another sigh heaved from Ellie's lungs before she approached the vehicle. She traced her finger along a standard seam where one metal plate met another. "It's 'ere!" The plate was just under where the driver sat. It wasn't exactly visible, but Ellie knew that the plates were just too far apart.

"That's what I thought." The most senior of the group pushed his glasses up before approaching. Had it been anybody else but Hank, Ellie would have probably shooed him away. However, this was her mentor, the man who taught her everything she knew. The man was able to touch the seam without any complaints from the girl. "You did a good job putting it in a place that would be less noticeable though."

Phil nodded in the background. "Yeah, it won't really cause much drag either."

Ellie just sighed again. Even with all the compliments and the kind words, she couldn't help but feel that both Hank and Phil were just being nice. They knew she hated when people sugarcoated sh*t.

It would never be the same.

No matter how hard Ellie tried, it would honestly never be the same.

Invasion of Privacy Much? (Ellie + ********* style="font-size: 11px">It was an accepted fact these days that a certain stray cat would drift into Ellie's life every so often through her garage. It was never planned. It always just seemed to happen. It probably had something to do with the fact that was one of the rare times the tomboy left her house open enough for such an invasion.

There was the sound of a bell tinkling along the edges of the entrance, followed by a pleasant "Good afternoon, Ellie!"

The teenager had moved on from the whole ignore her and she'll go away plans, since they had never worked in the past. All the manx would do was walk up right next to where the blonde was working and simply wait.

Wait for a greeting.

Wait for attention.

It was creepy in many senses.

The girl simply muttered out something that resembled a "'Sup, cat?"

********* paws were about to bring her close to the vehicle Ellie was working on when her ears began to twitch. She turned to face the sound she managed to catch. It sounded like a phone that was on silent rumbling against the ground.

She turned expectantly to Ellie. "Aren't you going to get that?"

"Uh... no..."

Whiskers twitched this time in response to her words. Shifting her path, she then made her way to the guilty party. It could have been any sort of phone in the world. Yet it was Ellie's senshi phone, in all of its metallic rainbowy goodness.

"It could be important..."

"I don't give a damn, cat."

Her velvety nose sniffed slightly. "You should take this Senshi thing more seriously..." Rather than continue to lecture beyond that point, the cat tended to the phone, which had long stopped vibrating. Delicately, the cat pushed her claws between the small ridge. With a bit of squirming, the tailless one managed to somehow get the phone to open up so she could view the screen.

"One new text message...hmmm..."

From under the car, the tomboy snorted out "Didn't know that thing could get texts..."

"I take it you ignore your phone whenever you get the chance then... let's see here..."

The cat pushed a button with her nose, then resumed reading, this time in silence. Thoughtfully, she sat her rump down and looked up to the ceiling above. "Well... that's timing if I ever heard it..."

Rather suddenly, the girl rolled out from under her vehicle, eyes harshly glancing to her momentary furry companion. "What'cha goin' on 'bout, cat?" She looked absolutely disinterested and annoyed as she tapped a petite wrench against the ground.

"There's a meeting... on Saturday apparently... guess that's good... means we probably don't have to do that other meeting then..."

A brow lofted at the cat's statement. "Other meeting?"

The cat nodded as if she hadn't crossed any lines. "Yes. Other meeting. It was a meeting with other Eternal Senshi. It was going to take place here actually. It's the perfect place to hold senshi meetings in all honesty, since your parents are rarely around..."

Ellie's hand reached out rather suddenly and grabbed onto the bell along the cat's collar, dragging her closer. "What the HELL gives ya the right t'decide that sorta SH*T fer me?!!"

It was amazing how ********* could still keep a calm, and relatively pleasant expression upon her face. Yet somehow, this vicious act of intimidation did not seem to have the desired affect. "I do not have the right, I will give you that." There was a pause. "However, you do need to grow up a bit. You need to realize that blocking us out doesn't solve anything."

Eyes remained hatefully upon the feline. There was an odd silence, save for the sound of the petite wrench tapping against the ground. "Yer damned right ya don't got the right! I ain't 'bout t'flounce 'bout paradin' th'fact..."

"...that you are a senshi." ********* face leaned forward and eventually turned to kiss the hand that was restraining her by the collar. It was quite scratchy against Ellie's skin. "You don't always need to put up a tough front, Ellie."

The teen had never really experience a cat kissing her skin before. It was weird. Not like the dog kisses she was so willing to accept from complete stranger-dogs. It was still strangely comforting, but not nearly the same. For a moment, the tomboy was silenced. Eventually, her hand jerked back, releasing the collar. Turning away slightly, the teen rolled herself back under the vehicle she had been working on. "I guess I'll see ya at th'meetin' then..."

It was a very obvious subject change.

"Indeed."

The cat puffed up her fur for a moment now that she was freed again, then turned back to the world outside of the garage. With that, the cat drifted back out of Ellie's day.

The teen would see her again soon.

Inside Insults (Ellie + ********* style="font-size: 11px">Ellie had done everything right as Sailor Iris. She had gone to that meeting she really didn't want to go to. She had sat there patiently and waited for that darn cat to finish with whatever the hell her duties were for the evening. She had been there to pick up the exhausted feline the moment the meeting was over. Uncharacteristically, she had even volunteered to take ********* home with her. It wasn't like Metis could smuggle a cat into her room at that eyesore of a school, Crystal Academy. Yes, Metis had a seeing eye dog, but even then, she suspected someone would tattle and that would cause more problems in the long run.

She wasn't doing this because she liked ********* or anything. Who the hell could like such an annoying cat?

Once far enough away from the warehouse that had been jam-packed with senshi, Sailor Iris returned to being Ellie Spectre. It was growing increasingly cold outside these days, but somehow the teen was still wearing her baggy shorts without much concern. Puffs of air escaped from her mouth, forming small visible clouds by her lips. Her eyes fell upon the cat awkwardly positioned in her arms. Even after suffering the cat for almost 2 months, the tomboy hadn't even bothered to learn how to carry a cat properly.

********* eyes were closed, making it look like she was asleep.

"You're obviously upset..."

Apparently ********* was still quite awake, just resting with her eyes shut. Her nose twitched slightly, causing her whiskers to bounce slightly.

"Yer damned right I'm pissed!" Despite her anger, her tone remained hushed in almost a whisper. A very angry whisper. Her nose crinkled up slightly along the bridge as she asked "Why th'hell did ya do that?!!"

The cat seemed quite sleepy in her arms. "Do what?" Perhaps she was playing innocent, or perhaps she really didn't know what she had done wrong. Or maybe it was just the fact sleep had a way of distorting one's perception. Regardless, the cat sounded too tired to really understand.

"Why th'f*ck did ya hit me in front of all those people?!" Her voice almost broke the whisper level into a normal tone, but rather quickly she realized where she was and what time of day it was, and she returned back to more of a whispering tone. "Seriously, what th'f*ck?"

The cat yawned out a simple "Ohhhhh..." Apparently she remembered that backhand to Sailor Iris' thick skull. Apparently it was thicker than she thought, for she still didn't seem to get it. "You asked a question that could have been thought out better. Especially given the information you already had, Ellie." Even in her tired state, the manx still seemed able to shift her weight slightly so she was leaning more against the teenager's body.

As was usual for the teen, she took the shortcut through the park, even given the fact it was way past curfew. The cops could easily stop her and give her a slap on the wrist. Ellie didn't care. As she passed a tree which had a branch hanging down lower than it should have been, she used one hand to gingerly push it out of the way. "What'cha talkin' 'bout, cat?" Once again, Ellie was out of the loop, and it was beginning to grate against her nerves.

"I told you I was there at the masquerade." The cat let out another yawn, stretching out her legs slightly in the mess that was her body and Ellie's arm. "I told you pretty much everything you needed to know at the time. If she... if she had been the Serenity we've been looking for, I would have been singing songs, ringing bells, and rejoicing so loudly that someone would have tried tying my mouth shut." That someone probably would have been Ellie. ********* knew the high schooler better than Ellie could have ever imagined.

"Ya keep secrets from me, cat!"

"No," the cat calmly corrected. "I tell you what you need to know."

They were almost at Ellie's house when the teen let out a rather notable groan. "When th'hell do ya ever tell me anything?!"

"I went to both you and Lilith..."

"Lil," the blonde corrected.

Ignoring the correction, the manx continued. "...as quickly as I could about that issue with the Masquerade. I told you exactly what I knew. Do you realize how far Crystal Academy is from your home, Ellie?" Her ears twitched slightly as she heard Ellie's shoes go across the gravel that decorated her front yard.

Pulling out a key from her pocket, she paused right in front of the door. Rather than putting the key into the lock, she pushed her head against the door. Her hair went every which way. She backed her head up a bit, then thrust her head forward to hit it against the door.

********* still had her eyes closed. "...I take it you are frustrated?"

"It's hard t'believe ya at times since ya really don't give me much t'work with, cat." Her head thunked against the door again.

With a slight gentle nod that wasn't even enough to jostle her collar's bell, the feline sympathized. "I understand what you mean... please... just get inside if you could. It's cold out here..."

The tomboy pulled her head back eventually and looked at the door again. She sighed and didn't say a word as she set to unlocking the door. She didn't say a word as she went up the stairs to her bedroom. She didn't even say a word as she set the cat on the floor before plopping into her bed, still wearing her regular clothes.

Stretching out her limbs once more, the feline murmured quietly "Thank you, Ellie."

"Fer what?" Ellie's eyes were staring at her ceiling.

"For being one of my girls, and most importantly... for being yourself."

There was a moment of silence. A half smile managed to lift one corner of the girl's lips. However, not wanting to seem like the sentimental sort, she simply grunted out a "Whatever..." And she left it at that.
