Golden tipped boots marched through the twelve story office complex, their owner had his shoulders held high after taking the starseeds of the two rent-a-cops on the first floor. Esperite's ego was only growing larger with each successful acquisition. Incredibly relieving to him maybe, since he was having a hard time separating the two sides of the coin. While the "nightmares" were getting more vivid and harder to explain, Teddy was still doing his very best to push Esperite's nighttime hobbies into the back of his mind. Sure, the boy behind the lieutenant could wake up tomorrow and smile his usual cocky smirk. He would go on about his day as usual: smoothie for breakfast and workout till the sun went down. However, as soon as Teddy closed his eyes and Esperite awoke, things started to get complicated. The line was starting to blur and two were quickly on their way to becoming something completely new. For better or worse, Teddy and Esperite would have to both start taking responsibility for the tiny jewels and their ugly origins.
His bite down slightly on his lip. He couldn't afford to lose his cool now. Not while he was still on the job. Not now, not in front of people, never in public. He shook it off, physically and mentally. His mental gymnastics had distracted him while he ascended the staircase towards the rooftop. A clean break. Though he had a good amount of anger left for the maintenance team who couldn't fix the damn elevator.
They'll be next. Mark my words...
Finally he reached the top of the building. Keeping his determined stride, Esperite made his way to the building's ledge, anxious to put this weakened state of mind behind him. The gleaming lights of the other buildings dotted the sky in an elaborate formation. Crimson eyes scanned their surroundings to see which building he would leap to in order to discreetly reach the streets below. Hopefully something quick with a fire escape. No need to throw away the entire night on getting back down to solid ground.

On a slightly shorter building of merely 10 stories rather than 12, stood another figure. She stood as close to the middle of the roof space as she could and was staring at the sky. Her stomach honestly felt like it was in the back of her throat. She should have been able to fool herself into thinking that from where she was standing and looking, it should have seemed like she was on the ground, safe and sound. The sky looked the same whether you were on the first floor or the 10th floor, right?
Yet all of the logic and attempts at deceiving herself did not seem to be working. The winged figure had a hang up and it was a b*tch to get rid of. As the wind blew past, causing her longer strands of hair to dance in the breeze, she felt a shiver run down her spine.
Too much wind and you'll be blown off the building.
Shut up!
You'll fall to your death.
I mean it!
At least she was up there on that building. No ********* there to tell her to be up there. Sailor Iris' logic was simple: If she was working on improving one aspect of herself as a senshi, why not work on some of her other problems as well?
Another breeze rushed past, her skirt lifting a bit at the edges. Her gloved fingers tightened a bit in the fist they were in.
At least I didn't bring the boomerang. That would have been suicide!

Peering through the night sky, Esperite's search for the first stepping stone to the ground below brought him to a slightly shorter building to the east of his current location. Contemplating the distance between the two buildings, he was unsure of his ability to reach the neighboring structure. New to the game, he wasn't sure the limit of his physical enhancements and certainly didn't want to end up trying to survive a fall from a twelve story building instead of just testing out his leaping range. Hesitation set in for a moment. Thankfully he was all alone. He was more likely to rush through his thoughts if someone had been there to watch him falter.
I got this.
Long nights and a growing body count were starting to take their toll on the young liuetenant. He wasn't sure how to handle being two people at once. No, that wasn't entirely true. He knew. In order for this mental tug of war to stop, Teddy and Esperite would have to stop being being two people. Teddy would have to admit to himself that Esperite wasn't some horrific fantasy or fear inspiring apparation of his young mind. Esperite and Teddy would have to stop pretending the other wasn't involved. He didn't have a split personality afterall. Deep down the blue haired boy knew that. However, now wasn't the time to wrestle with inner demons. No, he would take his chances jumping off buildings before he tried jumping off that ledge.
Here goes nothing.
A slight running start helped him to clear the deadly space between buildings. Limits tested? Hardly. Just another victory for the champion. Whether the rest of the Negaverse knew it or not, he was already winning each and every battle. Forget keeping score for now, he could throw them a bone or two right? Wrong. A smirk crossed his face as rose to scan the rooftop.
"Great. Just great."
The mumbles came out to acknowledge he was not the only bird atop this perch. And not just any plain on pigeon, but a winged senshi. Whatever that meant.
There wasn't time to hide or take another leap. His metal tipped boots announced his arrival with a sudden clang as the gold lining hit the hard mixture of stone and wood. Not so lucky after all since now he would really be testing his limits. No time to play it cool, he was going to have to try to psych her out before they fought. He wasn't fond of playing fair, why start now?
"Hey birdbrain, lose your way? Or are you just having a private party all alone? What's the matter? Crap on too many windshields today?

The moment his feet touched the rooftop the senshi had been claiming, her golden eyes shot immediately to the company. Her immediate reactions weren't F*ck, it's a negaverse agent or Oh great, now I got to fight. Instead, her first thought was Man up and don't let him know you're scared!
Sailor Iris didn't get scared.
Slowly, she turned to face the blue-haired boy, her eyes still remaining upon him. He taunted her, and in all honesty, if she had ever been in a similar situation where her opponent-to-be had wings, she would have probably said the same crap.
"Yeah, yeah... jus' keep at that..." She had obviously heard her fair share of taunts thanks to the butt wings. Instead of allowing herself to get riled up, she let out a rather throaty sound, then shot a glob of spit in the boy's direction.
"Ya know, I could use some target practice t'day..." Her voice sounded confident, but in all honesty, she wasn't. She just couldn't allow herself to avoid the inevitable. Sailor Iris would need to try her Revenge whenever she got the chance to make sure she could try to figure out what she was doing wrong. For a brief second, she closed her eyes. It wasn't like last time where the situation was extremely rushed. She also didn't feel threatened to say the least.
This was, after all, merely a lieutenant. He was no real threat to her.
With her eyes shut, she undid her balled up fists and clapped her hands together. "I'll make ya see some new colors!" Her eyes were still shut, but her mouth managed a confident grin.

Taunting didn't seem to affect this one as much as the others. Usually his opponent's composure would fall apart after a few sharp words. Unfortunately, this one's skin seemed to be a little thicker. Not to mention he still wasn't sure why her outfit was so different from the other senshi. Was that a good thing or a bad thing. This perplexed him slightly. Was she stronger or weaker?
Just great. Do I really need this right now? Could I possibly escape to a nearby building? No. No running. Especially not in front of someone who could possibly run off and tell others. Not an option.
He was too deep now to try and leap into the darkness. Do or die had set in for the crimson eyed boy. If it hadn't been for his lack of sleep, he could think more clearly. Be stronger. Yeah, that was it. He just needed to pulverize this winged senshi and he would feel invincible again. Raising both daggers, he motioned himself into a defensive stance. Both crossed and ready to defend or attack.
"Target huh? Maybe instead of improving your aim, you should try improving your manners. All I've seen so far is an ape in an eyesore of a girl's body. What are you the senshi of anyway? Slobber?"
Esperite needed to gauge her strength before he made the first move. Whatever she was really capable of, he was barely at the tip of the iceberg.

Normally, the response would have been "Manners are fer pussies!" Possibly even a "Wait and find out" to the request of her power sphere. No, for once she bit her tongue and merely concentrated on her attack. The blue-haired Lieutenant didn't have to wait very long for an answer about her sphere.
Her hands parted from each other, forming a colorful arch from palm to palm. Her eyes opened up, and then with a steadier motion, she seemed to toss the newly formed rainbow at the target. No cocky responses came from the girl's tongue, merely one shouted attack name. "Iris Rainbow Revenge!"
For about 2 seconds, the arch remained in tact, rushing through the air towards the opponent. And then one by one, the bands seemed to dissolve, each color fleeing in a different direction from the main grouping of colors. One by one, from red, orange, then yellow, and green with blue, the colors parted, crashing into the ground, the edge of the rooftop, and even into the night sky. The only two colors that remained together and on target were indigo and violet. For Sailor Iris, it was rather difficult to distinguish the difference between purple and purple (as she always had viewed the colors indigo and violet).
Even with this vague triumph that went relatively unnoticed, as the two colors flew at the Lieutenant, they were about as harmless as a gentle shove.
Yet for some reason, the senshi was grinning. Why would she be grinning? Something did not seem right about this.

For the first time in a battle, especially with a senshi, he was speechless. Utterly unable to comprehend what had just happened before him. In the few fleeting seconds after Iris completed the rainbow and before she launched it at him, he was certain he was finished. The wings and minor differences were a sign of something greater, perhaps even more dangerous than any other senshi he encountered. However, as he kept his defensive stance, arms crossed, the two banded colors barely even pressed against his arms. What was there to say that hadn't already been expressed in the dysfunctional light show she had just put on? Should he even bother to validate what just happened? However, this suprise left him with a unique opportunity. If that was all she was capable of, then he was golden. Better actually, he was platinum.
Taking this perceived revelation to heart, he charged forward. Daggers pointed towards his colorful opponent's midsection. Whatever sissy light show she had hoped to distract him with wasn't going to deter him from ending this fight and heading into the darkness for more starseeds.
"You senshi are just bad circus attractions. You've shown me that just like the others, you are all bark. However, unlike you, I actually bite!"
Pride was blinding him away from caution. His charge wasn't entirely reckless, but it did leave him open on multiple sides. Careless? Not entirely. Fool proof? Far from it. He wanted a quick, silent finish. Maybe even the chance to get a senshi's starseed. That would be a real prize worth fighting over instead of constantly defending his meager earnings from the city's pathetic populace of nobodies.

The girl didn't even attempt to move out of the way of the daggers. It was like she was unafraid to take the hit. It was a bit surprising that the weapon seemed so functional, but the jab she felt across her stomach was nothing in comparison to the arrow she had in her shoulder a while back. She wasn't even bleeding.
Despite the jab in the stomach, the blonde didn't stop grinning. "And yer truly green, Lieutenant. Ya can't even recognize a handicap when I set one up?" Sure, it truly hadn't been her primary objective to weaken herself, but it honestly wasn't a bad deal. Sailor Iris didn't need to be at full strength to defeat someone like this guy. Heck, he might have even proved to be fun.
Tightening up her own fist, her experienced eyes managed to note the openings in his defenses. As she directed her own swift punch towards his side, she laughed.
"I f*ckin' hate th'circus, dumbass!"

A few seconds after the eternal senshi's punch slammed into his face, he wasn't exactly sure what was worse: the damage to his jaw or the damage to his pride. Grin and bear it was the first thing that came to mind, but he wasn't too fond of the irony given where the punch hit him. Esperite's tackle was successful, but like the times before, he was quickly reminded how limited and virtually useless his plastic daggers were. In all honesty, they were barely a step above toys. Barely. The embarrassment of having to brandish such ridiculous trinkets should have sent him running in the opposite direction when it came time to join the Negaverse. He needed something stronger, something that actually backed up his sharp tongue and gruff exterior. However, for the time being, he was utterly overpowered by his opponent's punch.
"I don't know what you find so amusing, that outfit alone is enough to make you the main attraction. I suppose you are out to save the world with rainbows and unicorns? Adorable really. Do you have any glitter stickers to go along with it?"
He really needed to learn when to shut up. He knew he needed to make up for his failed physical assault somehow and the only way he knew was to go on the attack with words, verbal attacks were more effective than plastic toys.
"Hate the circus huh? What's the matter, even they laughed at your ridiculous antics?"
As he finally tried to pick himself up off the ground, he went to his ace in the hole: his kicks. Sure, they didn't come with any flashy introduction or awe-inspiring name, but they were the only truly effective attack he possessed and after the last punch, he could use a rebound. Still situated on the ground, he made a sharp kick for at her. The only advantage he had now was proximity and his long longs. Everything else seemed to be stacked against him.

This poor, POOR Lieutenant. Some senshi, throwing insults at them so haphazardly could effectively hault them in their tracks. However, in this particular case, all the blue-haired Negaverser was doing was adding fuel to the fire. It felt great to get such a clean shot to his face. She rarely went for such an obvious shot, but he had left himself so open that it was screaming to be done.
While they were still so close, the idiot dared to toss out his insults. In return, she once more let out a deep throaty sound, and spit. However, this time it was like she was aiming, for it flew towards the Lieutenant's face after he finished with his taunting of unicorns.
"Ya know... I think ya should talk t'Sassolite or somethin', dipsh*t!" She paused in explanation the moment he dared to kick towards her direction. It must have felt for a moment as if he was going in slow motion, for the senshi still seemed able to react faster than the usual senshi. She wasn't completely 100% scott-free, the blonde feeling a rough brush of foot against the back of her extended hand. It almost hurt.
Almost.
"Maybe ask her what she knows 'bout Sailor Iris and Lieutenants losin' their heads..." It honestly had not been one of the senshi's better moments, but it had been done. She couldn't place that Lieutenant's head back on and bring him back to life.
At her current distance away, she stood there with a loose fighting stance. Her eyes seemed to take in the whole picture. He knew how to kick, so that would be something she'd need to watch out for. Silently, she paused long enough to signal for him to bring it on.

Disgusting. Utterly and completely revolting. Never in his life had he been so humiliated. Especially in so many different manners. First she dared to overpower him physically and now she was insulting him with spit. Spit! He couldn't stand it. Germs were not something the attentive young man would settle for and he was quickly becoming frustrated with his inability to gain the upper hand with her. This had to be the worst possible thing to happen to him since he took up the title of Esperite. No one had mentioned the senshi being this annoying, this dirty. Using his sash, he wiped his face clean. He
"You're disgusting! You worthless hog. I would ask if you were raised in a barn, but that would be too civilized for you. I'm guessing you crawled out of some disease infested sewer after you hatched out of your egg from a mentally ill insect."
Bringing himself to his feet, he ignored her comments about Sassolite. He didn't know her and with how is night was going, he certainly wasn't interested in meeting any acquaintances of this particularly barbaric senshi. Crimson eyes watched their opponent carefully as she held her defensive stance. His jaw still hurt and his pride was permanently damage after that horrific moment. It was beginning to look grim for the teal haired boy. Esperite needed a new strategy. Both his daggers and kicks were barely affecting her. He was going to have to be more resourceful. Bringing himself to a very defensive stance, he scanned his surroundings. The only item that would pass for something to damage him was a small rock near his feet.
Great. Maybe next I can pull her hair. Nothing like being reduced down to playground antics.
Resorting to anything to bring down Sailor Iris, he threw the rock in her direction as a distraction before following behind it with another tackle. He had to redeem himself somehow right?

"Better than bein' raised in th'palace you were raised in, yer majesty." She rather sarcastically bowed forward, as if acknowledging the fact he was oh so much better than her. His insults were starting to annoy her, just because they sounded too princely for her tastes.
"Now, if yer done b*tchin'... seriously... show me what yer made of." Subconsciously, she began to make her way towards the center of the rooftop. Even when distracted like this, she seemed to naturally avoid the potential of falling from the top of a building. Before she even got to the subconsciously-desired destination, the Lieutenant had made his move.
A very p***y-like move. Sure, she saw the rock. In fact, as she had been moving towards that subconscious destination, she even managed to dodge it. His desperation was beginning to show, and it was making this fight a bit more annoying. Yet, in her confidence, she noticed something.
He was rushing her again like he was a football player. No, there wasn't time to completely dodge again, but she really didn't need to. She braced for impact and protected any vital parts with her arms. Even with the full force of the tackle, she was a force to be reckoned with, able to hold her ground without falling to the ground. The blonde was sturdy, buckling only very slightly to the opposing force.
"Ya know... I think I should end this now, buddy!"

His opponent's resilience was truly admirable. IF they hadn't been on opposing sides, he would have respected her as a truly powerful force to be reckoned with. Deep down, he was jealous of her overwhelming power. He wanted that status and ability. Not to be stuck scrounging the city for starseeds like a rat forced to sneak around for crumbs of cheese. Esperite's true goal was the ability to stand strong and never be compared to the imbeciles he was ranked with in the Negaverse. However, this only fueled his anger. He wouldn't allow someone to rule over him. Never. Not once had he been faced with someone who could easily toss him aside like yesterday's garbage.
Damn it. . .
Garbage is exactly what he felt like when he was once again thrown to the ground by having his own attack thrown back in his face. By now, he should be used to the sensation of being unable to overtake her. She wasn't going to fall to such petty distractions. He knew that, but what other choice did he have? He wasn't going to run off, tail between his legs. Now he was going to have to come to terms with defeat. Somehow, deep down, he was going to have to reason that this was the better alternative to fleeing. Defeat beats out cowardice. A lot more painful, but no one will respect a coward. After tonight, this would have to be his new mantra. The crimson eyed lieutenant needed more power. That was the only way he could ever hope to compete with someone like her.
"So the swine talks back huh? Another parlor trick taught to you by the animals that raised you? Charming, really. Do you do any magic tricks?"
First taking a second to rest on his knee, he tried to control the exhaustion, both mental and physical. He wasn't getting anywhere with her and his body was going to give out soon enough. Another distraction would surely fail. He was standing again, though on shaky ground, but this wasn't going to be easy. Regardless of what happened next, Teddy wouldn't be able to shake this one off as another nightmare.

The senshi stood herself upright once more. This Lieutenant really was quite new to this whole senshi ordeal. He spoke, once again trying to insult her with his uppity attitude peering through his words.
It was laughable.
In fact, Sailor Iris didn't bother to hide her chuckles. The tomboy tightened up her fist as she stood there. "Oh, ya wanna see a magic trick? Last guy who saw this one is dead!" From the depths of her hand, light began to gather. It was a gentle glow for about five seconds before before the light began to grow quite intense.
It wasn't like her previous attack. She knew this attack inside and out. Soon enough, something seemed to sprout out from her fingers. It was another rainbow, but something was different about this one. The blue-haired lieutenant wasn't going to get time to muse over it.
"Iris Rainbow Slicer!" With a sharp motion of the arm, the rainbow was now snapped in his direction.

Small, slightly insignificant red dots coated his tunic. Dark purple slowly faded to a more sinister maroon. In an instant, Esperite went from uncertainty to absolution. That was all it took. A second? No, so much quicker. Flash of light, a prismatic force, and finally the sting of pain. A well orchestrated dance had taken place in a mere moment. He had been the captive audience. Mesmerized by the movement, but completely incapable of participating. Time was so fleeting, he was utterly incapable of fully analyzing what had just occurred.
Moments ago, he had been awe struck by her overwhelming power. Jealous, envious, and frustrated by their obvious differences in experience, stamina, and most of all power. However, just like the sinister attack that had just sliced through him, he had changed in a mere moment as well. He was no longer any of those things. No, the crimson-eyed lieutenant was oblivious to her. His mind fully fixated on himself. Fear, panic, and rage were the emotions that he was forced to drown in. Before, he was prideful, cocky, and arrogant. Concerned with keeping appearances, staying one step ahead in any way possible, she was his only concern. However, all that changed when the battle became real for him. If her attack had gone any deeper, it would have killed him. Sliced in half in a mere second.
Adrenaline rushed through his veins. There was no longer any need to fear defeat. He had already been defeated. His pride was shattered. The high he had been riding on since the moment he dawned the guise of Esperite had so swiftly come to an end. The dream was over, reality had to set in. Doubts, fears, and remorse washed over him. Teddy and Esperite were one now. He was a real man recruited by an organization to steal people's souls. That was his destiny now. Teddy would have to walk this path, eyes open.
"s**t . . ."
Mumbling curses, he chose the only option left to him: flee. He wasn't going to die. The adrenaline running through veins could carry him far and he would fully allow it. Esperite needed to get away, run as far as possible from this sharp pain and all it meant. Without any hesitation, he brought himself to his feet and leaped to the adjacent building. Leaving behind the scene of his defeat. Any fear he possessed before about being seen as a coward dissipated. The teal haired boy had so much more to deal with now. Sailor Iris faded from his radar as he moved from the edge of their rooftop to the next.
Live to fight another day!
Pride meant nothing to the dead and he didn't have any plans to join them. As fast he could run, he jumped from one building to another, unable to stop. All he heard was the soft tap of his boots as they touched down on each rooftop.
