She was doing it again. Every year Chloe told herself she'd shop earlier for the holidays. By the time the beginning of December rolls around it is already to late. All the other shoppers are out too. Now it was just weeks away from Christmas and she had no gifts to show for it!
She had set out to the mall early in the day to actually get something done. The girl spent most of the day in the video game store playing the demos. Proud of herself at least that she didn't actually buy anything! Her parents were getting her games and did not want to risk getting doubles. Nothing worse than owning two copies of a game.
It was nearing lunch and she still hadn't purchased a thing. Maybe if she looked in a store that interested herself and had things for a few of her friends would help her get started. Chloe made her way into Blazing Subject. They had an array of stuff there. Graphic tees, long stripy socks, punky clothes, just everything!
Speaking of socks... She made her way over to the wall of socks and started to look them all over.

Socks were always such a dilemma. There was very little forgiveness with them. The socks that were blatantly punk were also usually blatantly feminine, being far longer than any guy could get away with while still being called straight.
A tall blonde girl had been standing in front of the display of striped socks with her arms crossed in front of her chest. Dark striped socks were very punk, but they were also very feminine punk. Sure, she could solve this whole problem with purchasing a pair and cutting off the excess length, but why couldn't they ever make short striped socks that gave the same vibe? Taking scissors to a pair of socks was apparently way too much work.
There was a bit of distance between Ellie and the sock wall, so it didn't take long for some lavender-haired girl to get between her and her internal dilemma. The tomboy was tall enough where this wasn't a problem. However, rather than think about stuff herself, she decided to ask the opinion of a stranger. They couldn't be too bad, since they were in Blazing Subject to begin with.
"So kid... tell me what ya think of this plan. I buy a pair of these socks, then cut them so that I still have the sock part, but I also have th'makins' fer some gloves?" There weren't any others nearby the sock wall, so there was only one person that Ellie could have been talking to.

Socks. Oh socks. Chloe would never have enough socks. She wished she could knit her own, oh how cool would that be since she'd be in charge of colors and patterns.
Enough of the wish, she'd buy them for now. She barely saw the blonde girl that she stood near. Chloe picked up a pair and looked at them. Blue and purple? Hmmm.
The other girls words caused her to turn. "Huh, well. Depends on the socks right?" Chloe glanced and made sure no one else was around. Yep, talking to her. She grinned. "Guess you like socks too? If you got one of the longer ones I think you could pull that off."

The blonde lofted a single brow in the other girl's direction. "Any size of sock would be able t'work... I ain't talkin' 'bout hose or sh*t like that... I mean true blue socks! Even if they're th'short ones, like th'ones that are meant to be unseen outside of yer shoes, they still work. Short gloves."
There was a pause before she pointed something else out. "I don't do socks so much. I do gloves..." Her eyes began to look the lavender haired girl over, as if trying to get a better idea as to what sorts of things this girl would have been into fashion-wise. Obviously she wasn't punk-minded like Ellie, at least that was the quick decision the blonde had made.

She hadn't thought about that. Though she doubted that so short of socks could be both socks still and leave some fabric for gloves. "Ah, I see. Like these then?" Chloe held up the pair of calf-high socks. "How'd the short ones work, doesn't seem like a lot to work with." Still holding her one pair she picked up a pair of short socks and looked them over.
Today Chloe wasn't dressed one way or another, just jeans and a shirt. Well a jacket and a pair of shoes too, her stripped knee highs couldn't be seen. She wore punky stuff a bunch but not today, darn cold outside. "I love socks, taller the better. Gloves, I lean towards knit ones." Ones she made herself but she left that off.

Shorts weren't really Ellie's thing, unless the shorts were past her knees. The pair of shorts that the girl was looking over were far too short for her tastes. The blonde turned to pick up a band shirt that had skulls on it. What band, she really didn't care. There were skulls, and that was all that was important.
"Short socks work only as gloves... ya gotta cut 'em th'right way though. Kinda like a V an'get rid of th'toes fer fingerholes." She held the shirt up against her body. It was a small apparently. If Ellie wore something like this, it would look like a belly shirt of some sort, which was not something she'd ever wear normally. Without making too big a deal about it, the girl set down the shirt in the pile (a bit messier than it was before). Her fingers soon enough pulled out another shirt which looked more promising. Holding the new shirt up to her body, it hung down almost to her thighs.
With her pinky, she then pointed to the calf-high socks. "Yeah, those work better though t'be honest."

Chloe shrugged and hung it back up. She grabbed a pair of plaid pants. Hmmm. The girl looked over at the other and noticed that shirt. It was a good band, had skulls. From her point of view this other girl had pretty good taste. "Makes sense. One wrong cut would ruin them I guess." She held up the pants again. They looked like they got really tight at the bottom. She'd have to try them on later possibly.
She grinned. "Nice shirt. I'm Chloe by the way." It was slightly weird to hold a conversation with another and not know their name.
"I might have to try making gloves from some of them if I get them! Hopefully I cut them right you know."

"Chloe, eh?" Ellie was never one to hold back what was on her mind. So the next thing to pop out from her mouth was a bit surprising. "I know a cat named Chloe..."
A talking, siamese cat named Chloe. That detail was not important.
Seeming content with the overly large shirt, the tall blonde tossed it over her arm, claiming it for her own purchases. With her arms seemingly free, she reached out with her right hand. "Go by Ellie... Ellie Spectre..." Her eyes looked expectantly down to her own hand, hinting that now was handshaking time. It wasn't a real greeting if you didn't shake hands.
"Don't think I've ever seen ya at Meadowview... it's a big school though an' maybe yer new? I dunno..."
