Info
Son of Umen and Rista.
Cousin to Kiyelt and Nin's hoard.

Personality

ISFJ-A - Defender

Adventurous - His two cousins Thal and Ushi got him into the bush for a hunt at an early age, this awakened quite the passion for bushcraft in him.
Curious: Gained from his mother he too likes to inspect every space which sometimes gets him into places he should not be.
Sulky- Mostly because being an older cousin brought a lot of responsibility to his door at an early age. As he gains experience he will grow out of this.
Reliable: As he matures this pops up more and more with early responsibility comes a sort of dependability he feels that others rely on him to protect and set an example and he does his best to make them proud.
Balanced: He is overall pretty level headed, not sure where this came from as both of his parents can be a bit hot headed at times, it will be interesting to see what does make him mad.

History: He has grown up with his inner and extended families. Taking advantage of his cousin's love of hunting and the outdoorsy spirit that all of them seem to share. He is dependable and solid but a bit judgemental some days.

For the most part his childhood went along swimmingly, however there was that one summer where his Mother thought that it would be a great time to go to Zena for a trip. Summer being the time when it was almost easy to travel up there and significantly less cold than winter. It still was cold though, and he remembered being vaguely shivery the whole time he was there. He was not a fan. Particularly not after what had happened. He was quiet and introverted most of the time, preferring to study and explore by himself with the possible exception of his brother whom he did not mind. This seemed to concern his parents at times and he was suspecting this had been part of the motivation of the Zenan trip, however if he did make a friend in Zena it would be long distance pen pals at best as he and his family had no intention of moving that he knew of, his mom had too much family in Matori to simply abandon it. Well it was a relief to know at the time that the trip to Zena would be temporary. What few friends he did have were also Matorian.
The trip there went well enough with few snags it was only when he got there that the drama started almost instantly. His Mother’s people sure were a spirited bunch. She had been raised in Matori by Isolder her adopted Dad so he wasn’t sure if this was more or less just a honoring of her Zenan heritage kind of thing. Whatever her reasoning for getting him there he knew one thing, that almost immediately after arriving, after the first sizzle of curiosity left him faced with dour Zenan natives who seemed unimpressed with his lovely spots and crystals patterns. Figs, the lot of them. He was amazing and he and his whole family knew it. So was his brother if they care to get to know him the big bunch of snobs couldn’t see past their noses and he wondered if his blood grandparents would have given him such a cold welcome. Somehow from his Mother’s temperament he thought that they would protect him from the other’s glares. She was a warm fiery sunset of a woman, stark and bright and blazing with life, compared to these stodgy old crows. Brewed in bitter juice as his Father would say.
He soon found that the younger generation was not that much better. His Mom had dropped him off at a lovely park for younglings. In his opinion it would be more lovely if the only youngling in it was him but hey. He walked over to a small group and sort of floated around listening to the prattle before moving on, trying to find a group that fit him somehow but it seemed like for a while all he got was close minded stares back. Snobs, even the young were snobs. He missed Matori greatly with its diversity, one could even see geians in some places.

He settled for playing with his own toys in the sand like he wanted to do from the beginning but his Mom could not now say that he had not tried. Not his fault they were standoffish. Eventually a girl came over and started to play near him. He looked up wondering if she might be here to potentially make friends. He could be hopeful right? When their eyes met she giggled and looked down. Great one of those girl likes boy kissy kissy drivel. His Dad said that was a phase. He certainly hoped so. Girls were so silly. He sighed and continued to play. He had been hoping for a real friendship, you know, if his mother wanted him too.
Another kid kneeled beside him and managed to elbow him sharply at the same time. “Hey, watch it, I’m digging here.” He said, his rib smarted sharply. Klutz. Was it too soon for his Mother to come get him already? He could be out hunting with Dad, that was infinitely more fun than this, and it was still cold.
“You watch it,” was the quick reply.
Ultear stared at the other kid, shocked deeply by the rudeness. How dare he sir!
“You are not worth my time.” He snapped and stalked off. Should have gone to the trees to climb to begin with, he thought. Were icelings particularly sharp across the board then? Couldn’t be, his Mother was sweet.
He had been taught that walking away was the right path, it was pretty hard though. He hadn’t done anything to that punk after all.
He growled under his breath about frozen heathens up here in the gods forsaken North, even their main gods name basically started with Brrr. He was most completely insulted. He couldn’t wait to give his Mother the low down of the ingrates. Coming up here had been a colossal waste of time. He would just have to make more Matori friends, heck even an oban or two or some of those fancy people from Belrea or Yael.
He was halfway up a tree when he saw the same boy approach the trunk. “Oh great,” he muttered. “No one wants you here, leave me alone.” Could the kid not take the hint or had he somehow insulted his ancestors without knowing about it. The boy kept coming, came right up in front of him on the trunks other side. Ultear prepared to slide down. “You are sorta dense aren’t ya?” He wanted quite frankly to be left alone thank you very much.
“Leave the girl.”
“What girl?”
“The one from the sand pit.”
“Bro, girls have cooties, I just want to go home.”
“I bet that’s what all smooth talkers say.”
“Have a crush on her do you?”
“I er well, I….”
“See unlike you, I just want to leave Zena and leave your hair, I’m not after your crush, also you are way too young to think she is in any way serious, she still believes in unicorns likely.”
“Keep it up rival we still have to fight punk.”
“Me? I am the punk? Really? I’m the new guy, soon to be the gone guy.”
“Promises promises.”
No matter where he ran the boy followed and eventually he turned and threw himself into said fight. They must have looked like a big jumbled up tumbleweed from how fast and furious their scuffle was. No doubt the girl that caused it was already off picking wildflowers and thinking about what her mother was going to make for dinner where he was stuck here facing a highly delusional little imp. There were punched thrown he got two black eyes and the other boy got a split lip and only stopped when he noticed the blood. He went tearing off to find his own mother.
Ultear spat and walked back to where his Mother would pick him up and he waited for her.
He would tell them both, as Umen had joined them for a short time, that Zena most definitely was not for him and he would like to be returned to his sweet Matori post haste, please and thank you.
This was supposed to be a fun outing but instead it told him that just because a place is new and sparkly, doesn’t mean it is not a matte black underneath.
He preferred to know the nature of a place before being dumped on by its occupants.
He was happy however that his brother was not here to get the same maltreatment that had plagued him in this place. Ustasis was worth protecting from idiots.
If that girl child had only known what she concocted, and also what a freak her friend was. One who could not see reason even if it was spit in his face in perfectly understandable common. Talk about your cold reception.
He couldn’t wait to tell his brother all about the travesties that had occurred today. To top it all off he was hungry and his Mother probably thought he was having fun.
He saw a flash in the distance and thought that perhaps his Dad was watching him. He started to wander in that direction. If he could find Dad, Dad would take him home. He checked carefully at all the terrain changes but as this was a park for children they probably ran the fence all the way around which should discourage the average ambitious snaptrotter from trying youngling for lunch.
Thus he was able to move rather quickly. He would beg his Dad to take him home, yes that would work. His Dad would understand once he told him of the events. He had been reluctant somewhat to try here but hopeful. Now he knew that that original feeling had been a sign that Zena was not habitable to him. Plus the winter here must be spectacularly miserable. Stuck indoors and then having to carve a path to the door as his Mother said. People seemed to like it here just not each other which he thought was an awful way to live.

Class Choice (Bandit ( Way of the Shadow Monk)
He had known for what seemed like quite a long time that he wouldn't exactly be following in the same footsteps as his family. He wasn't drawn to beasts or the sword in the same way as either of his parents or indeed most of his family. He liked to watch people, to shadow their footsteps and see just how long he could go undetected and unnoticed for. It was something that he and his dad enjoyed doing together. On the days when dad was around and not busy tending to his critters, It was a friendly sneaking competition.

Even his mother liked to turn the tables around on his dad some days and pounced on him right upon entry into the house after she lurked behind the door for a while waiting for him. This was always the best part.

There was only one path that he thought would really work for him and that was the way of the shadow monk. Everything about it was very cool. And he had some raw skills at hide and seek already, especially handy for in the beginning when his skills in magic were not as strong and he would have to compensate with stealth and tactics.
He had studied and compared career paths for days and he felt so much better now that he had finally been able to settle upon one. It wasn't talked about as much as more glamorous paths. But perhaps that was part of the reason he liked it so much; the mystery, the intrigue. Who knew you could make a career out of being skulky?

He had decided that he might as well get out there and practice, then he would have to find a proper teacher for this sort of thing, but for now, he would practice the basics for beginners that he had found in the book. It had been an old tomb with thick dark green leather for a cover. It had been written in old elegant script that made him think of a mature woman. Though he was not quite sure why he felt so strongly that it was a woman who had written it. Something about how the letters were curved, he figured.

He wondered who had written the book and had bought it that day as a textbook and source of inspiration. After working what he could from the book he decided it was time to go and find a teacher and what better way to start this journey than to find the author of said book.

He inquired from the lightning lady who owned a bookstore and she said the author lived on a secluded beach and used to run a small cafe by the sea. He bowed his thanks and decided he wanted to meet this person by himself since she had written such a good book. Ultear set off at once, thinking it would be fortunate if this cafe had decent food too.
It was a rugged coastal road with many rocks and most uneven terrain. But he took to the briny air like he had been born to it, he had in a way he supposed, his mother said it had been a stormy night when he had been born about 30 minutes before his brother Ustasis.

His mom had said he had looked up into her eyes with a fac a perfect mix of hers and his Dad's with a shock of her own deep blue hair. And she had thought that he would be quite an intellect; a thinker. He felt that she had not been wrong in any way. That he turned out so handsome was just a bonus. Though with how pretty his parents were, it wasn't too much of a surprise.

He scrambled quickly over the rocks. His mind as usual, worked way better than when his feet were happily on the move. His cousin had said that he would have made a fair Ranger. Indeed, if that had been his true calling he probably would have.
Well, he was going to find out if shadow monk was his true calling wasn't he?
It took a surprisingly long time to get where he wanted to go. Usually he was half decent in rugged terrain. Maybe there was something special about the trail he was on. He started to analyze as he walked through sand and rock skipped some places.

It did seem like there had been a spell or two placed upon it. He wondered if perhaps the author didn't want company after all, or perhaps the trail was a test on its own, built to discourage those who were incapable of putting enough effort in to learning the way of the shadow monk from reaching their destination to begin with. A sort of would be student filter. He found the whole thing fascinating. Some strange sense made him feel like he was doing the right thing and going the right direction. So he kept forging ahead, the added struggle making him all the more fired up to get to where he was going.

Eventually, the rugged tail trail spilled out onto a fine white sanded beach that was bordered by the sea and an ancient wooden cabin bordering the tree line. A small tiny garden framed the cabin on either side. It was quite beautiful and he stared for a moment looking around, checking for anyone else but the coast was literally clear. Clutching his book to his chest like a talisman he approached the door and knocked the wait between the percussive sound of the knock and when the door opened seemed to last for a month with his heart racing along keeping time.

He was somewhat shy around new people, so knocking on a complete strangers door was nerve racking. He wished that his brother was here with him but well it was his career in question not his little brother's. The door opened to deep orange eyes similar to his father's burnished bronze ones. It was a petite water woman with dark skin and very light speckles. Her hair was thick and wavy in a lovely rich green with a touch of blue. Her clothes were well made and feminine in style with a brown leather corset supporting a light cyan shirt. His eyes were drawn to a large sparkling sapphire that nestled just above her cleavage. She was a stunning woman and he was left a bit speechless for a moment while she took in his appearance. Her eyes widening a tad at the book he carried.

My name is Ultear son of Umen, my mother is Ristadis. I'm here because I would like to find a teacher to learn the way of the shadow monk as outlined in your book. I was hoping that you would be able to teach me or that you would know someone who could. He took a deep inhale as it was super hard for him to talk to complete strangers, never mind ask them to be his teacher. He felt like his whole body was on fire he was so antsy. He nearly forgot to breath as those orange eyes assessed him from top to bottom. She blinked once I'm not that active anymore. I'm well, I'm pregnant. So my priorities have changed. However, of the few that make it to my door there's just something I see in you that the others lacked, a proclivity if you will. I accept your tutelage with the caveat that my pregnancy may make your training a tad slow."

He could barely believe his ears, his heart racing. "Thank you so much."

He bowed deeply to her. This was a crucial first step to getting to where he wanted to be. "You will not be disappointed and congratulations on your pregnancy. Your family of course comes first, don't feel bad ever."

He loved his family immensely and wondered how long it would be before his mother would swell with a new baby brother or sister. He was pretty sure they wanted more kids. And he and his brother were older now and could even help with a new baby. He thought it'd be fun to help with a new sibling. "
I am most grateful for your help."

"Not a problem Ultear, I have been waiting for the right prentice to come along. That is why I made the path here so difficult, as I'm sure you've noticed." She confided.

So she had warded it! How exciting that he had picked up on that.
"I had noticed actually that was rather more difficult than normal to walk down the pathway. And I had wondered if there was a wasn't a spell or two placed on it to discourage visitors. Very clever of you, my family would heartily approve." He knew he did and hoped that she would teach him those spells too in case he needed to do something like that.

"My name is Negeda, my husband is from Yael. No doubt you will see him around. He is a hunter and so comes and goes. I will let him know you will be around so he doesn't get worried."
