Ultear 1
Rain pattered on the leaves of the tree he was in. He closed his eyes and listened to the nature around him, breathing in the renewed freshness brought by the rain. A twig snapped below, catching his attention.
He looked down beneath the leaves to see a shadowy form, it reminded him of someone but this persona wasn't the right size. The younger brother then.

"Ultear...your Mom sent me out here with snacks, come get them." He personally wondered why his cousin was hiding in a tree in the rain. Was it fun? Was there an animal out here that he was observing? Usually that was the reason his family would hide in a tree in the middle of a rainstorm. He wasn't sure he felt like getting wet at the moment.

So this was the youngest brother of charismatic Thal and intense Ushiwa. He wondered on which end of the scale this one would land on. He popped his head out of the tree. Food was a decent lure and the basket with his Mom's favorite blue and white cloth looked plump with food.
"Okay, I'll come down."
He would give the kid a chance.

He was excited to meet his older cousin, hella curious. What would the other boy be like? He only had a vague memories until now. He was excited to note that his cousin had both spots and crystals. Interesting he had scarce spots and he was very proud of them. He found he was kinda jealous that Ultear got all the bling.

He looked steadily at his cousin realising that he hadn’t seen the boy for quite a long time judging on the sixe that Tethys had already achieved. Good genetics his Mother would have said, then she would have cackled because she was not actually blood related to her sister Nin.
“I heard you had snacks in there.”

“Well your Mother sent it out I’m just the delivery boy.” He handed the basket over. He was not hungry he had raided the food as it was being made. “Its all for you, don’t worry about me… do you often eat in the rain?”
Curious…his cousin sure was strange.

He wasted no time when the boy said it was all his. He had been adventuring around the property for hours play hunting invisible prey. He wanted to be in good condition for hunting season when the most deliscious meat was up for grabs. He dug into the food. His Mom had put bread, cheese, fruit and juice. It was a great lunch.

Teth was about to haul the basket away when the heard a suspicious noise. “Um Ultear, you don’t happen to have any really large and angry sounding pets out here do you?”
“I think I heard something growl over there.” He was used to beasts but he did also like to see them before they tried to eat him.

“No not back here, I regret getting down from the tree.” A mist had crept in as the rain had recently stopped. Something deep down made him believe his cousin’s words. “Did it by chance sound like a frienlyish growl? Which direction did you say it was coming from?” He stepped close to Tethys and they stood back to back; rivals, friends and cousins.

Tethys was above being lunch. His body vibrated with his readiness to spring like a wild aldabuck.
“From there, the North, that large bush there. It was deep, sadly sounded very big indeed.” He should know, half of his family were beast tamers and that was what he wanted to be too.

“Great keep your back to me and edge around the tree away from the noise.” He crept along, letting his shoulders bump the other youngling’s; a reassurance and a way to keep as much area around them as visible as possible.
“Hopefully whatever it is is just passing through.” They could hope anyways.

Something lunged from his left and he grabbed Ultear and pulled him with all of his might,. Fangs whizzed by this face as a bull snaptrotter snapped its jaws shut right where Ultear had been standing.
“I was right! Its huge, go!”
His heart pounded so loud that it was all he could hear as they pelted away into the bush.

He screamed and ran right along with his cousin. Eventually they climbed a fallen log and ended up in the tree tops again.
“Thank you for saving me.” For all that his cousin was a little odd, the younger boy had saved his life today. That deserved recognition before anything else.

“Like I would let you actually get eaten. My mother would never forgive me.” Boys usually had a close bond with their mothers. He was no exception. He knew he could lean on his parents before anyone else. Family was blood and blood was everything. They were nothing short of nobles he figured. Legitimized by his granparant’s former status.

Ahh, there it was just that little touch of arrogance. Perhaps shared by the older brother Ushiwa. Though it had not ever been directed at him in Ushiwa’s case. This punk was lucky to have the cool older brothers that he had but seemed the most spoiled. Pity.
Then he thought about the tone the boy had used and realized he was subtly trying to joke. Perhaps he was not such a lost cause after all.
