So Apex minipets came from a mutated...virus...thing? Puella tilted her head cautiously. She wasn't quite sure what that meant, but there had to be some normal minipets somewhere around here, right? She remembered the velociraptor, at least... Wait, wait. Actually, she did quite distinctly recall hearing some villagers fussing over a minipet virus. Where had they been again? Ah, yes. "Hey, TK!" she said, in a loud whisper. "Let's go that way again." It'd be nice if they could learn something interesting about the origins of the virus, right? She wasn't sure if either of them were medically trained - Puella sure wasn't - but they could at least pretend. "Maybe if we look at some of their sick minis, we can figure out whether the apex virus is reproducible." Hadn't TK just said something about that, when they were fighting the basilisk?

Was this virus contagious or self-contained? Was the virus more of a condition or more of a disease, something that people should be fretting over? Could this condition eliminate large numbers of the minipet population after a certain phase, or was it just a fun effect for Halloween denizens to fool around with? Questions spun around inside his mind as they walked around, trying to find something that could occupy their time.
She managed to drag him out of the sea of inquiries by calling his name. “Yes?” Another thoughtful hum as Puella suggested that they investigate some of the minipets that had yet to show side effects of becoming, well, an apex minipet. Or, perhaps, he mused, were just sick with something else and more common. It couldn’t hurt to try anyways. “I see no harm.”

Puella supposed the proper thing to do, then, was to go minipet catching? It was the wild minipets that were affected, right? She ambled graceleslly over to the outskirts of the village again, although this time she sought to avoid the turkeys. She already had her steak, in case she went hungry! "How does that one look?" she asked, squinting. She was about to grab it when a different minipet caught her attention.  "Well, look at you!" she said, raising her eyebrows as she reached toward it. It was a little on the bigger side of average for minis, but not especially so. It was mostly the tail that made it big, anyway. More importantly it was all bones and guts and a sharp-toothed head: the perfect subject for a thorough examination. If Puella could see inside it, she could see what was wrong, right? "Um...do you remember the symptoms of that virus?" she asked, holding it above her head. "My, look how pretty your bones are!" Puella cooed.

Following after Puella was beginning to become a partner, but he did not mind. When he was younger, he had always been a follower. Granted, it had been his parents that had told him to follow after the son of the bath house owner, but a follower was still a follower, regardless of circumstances. But her silhouette was completely different—shorter, rounder, and a lively, bouncy step compared to the son’s. There were no fond memories evoked. Just silent musings.
“Huh.” An interesting catch, especially considering it had the aesthetics that TK preferred—namely, bones, bones, and more bones. His own meager collection of minipets were all those that appeared similar to him. They were all a comforting sight—creatures that were just skin and bones, just like him.
“Large, purple, and vicious,” he answered simply. The villagers hadn’t been very specific about the symptoms, but oh well. It seemed liked the virus was in its early stages, so there wasn’t a lot for the two of them to go off of.
As for himself, TK picked out a blossilia. He hummed as he took in its dark, hollow eyes.

Puella eyed her thing nervously. "I don't even know what this is," she admitted. peering through its little ribcage. It did seem pretty aggressive, though...but purple? "I wonder what they mean by purple?" she added, brows furrowing. "I mean, it's a little...cooler colored here." She peered over at the blossilia TK was observing. "I thought if I picked one with visible bones I could, like, look through them." And see the disease, maybe. It didn't really look like it, though. Were the guts supposed to be that funky lilac color? "I do think it's sick, though," she said, indicating the little orbs of floaty purple light. "Right?" She couldn't say anything about viciousness, though. A lot of minipets could be pretty fierce, and this one was at least letting Puella hold it. Two symptoms out of three (like she'd said, it was on the larger side of average - although not especially so) was still a hit, right? Maybe if she brought it to that medical-looking villager and they said no anyway, Puella would at least learn a tidbit about the virus. "Is yours...?"

If Puella had voiced her concerns aloud, TK would have noted that the particular breed of minipet that she had chosen were naturally aggressive. It was the perks of being a pet heavily aligned with the horseman clan involved with war. They had a tendency to fight and be violent already. “They likely mean patches of purple or tinges of purple when the pet should not have some,” he mused as he raised the blossilia and tried to examine all of its limbs. It dangled listlessly in his hands, which convinced him that it didn’t have any of the aggressive and violent symptoms the villager was searching for.
“An admirable thought, but considering the unusual physiological systems of different breeds, both in minipets and Halloween denizens, I think that sort of examination is best reserved for the professionals.” TK learned toward Puella’s before looking back at his. “I suppose both show minor signs of this mysterious disease. How about we return to the villager then?”

"I'm up for that!" said Puella, cheered. She'd very much like to learn more information, if she could. The villagers were getting at least a little more friendly, right? They'd been accomplishing some pretty strenuous tasks, and Puella rather thought they were doing well at it. Most of the villagers didn't even glare them away when they first approached, now. Now that was true friendship. She picked up the soul eater she'd been examining and held it tight against her chest for a journey back to that medical villager. "Have you taken a first aid class?" she asked, although even Puella knew enough about first aid to realize it had nothing really to do with this apex virus. They reached a cloaked villager soon enough, and Puella beamed at them. "We think these minipets are sick!" she explained, rather unhelpfully. "See, mine's got little floating purple bits!" The villager just nodded and took it. How rude!

The pair of them returned to said-villager to turn in their examined minipets. The soul eater received no compensation, as the villager merely grabbed it, briefly looked it over, and seemed to nod with satisfactory approval before walking away. “Um.” His glowing eyes followed the stranger, hopefully the deep stare would attract their attention. Luckily, the villager turned around eventually and upon realizing that there was another pet to pick up, turned around for TK’s blossilia. Upon this examination, however, the villager looked at TK for a long moment before handing him a cryptic statement and walking away.
He narrowed his eyes at the shrinking figure. Was that supposed to be a helpful clue?
