Heya folks! So, as some of you know, The Best in The Business awards have become a real staple in our community over the years. We have our friend, TheXFactor, to thank for that. The tradition of these awards has been passed down a number of times through the years. After XFactor, Mike Landry took the reins for a number of years before Chrono Clepsydra took control of it. He has since decided to let BiTB fall off his shoulders, and with his and XFactor's blessing, I will be taking over the BiTB Awards (at least for 2014).
You may be wondering why I'm revealing this information in June instead of... say, September. That's because I plan to run this a little differently. Too often, I've seen amazing pieces of work get forgotten for these awards, simply because that work happened months before the awards were given a thought. This time around, we're going with year-round nominations. Anything and everything can be nominated, as long as it fits the categories. This is to ensure that nothing gets overlooked that people wish to share for the awards.
Now, there's a twist to this. Due to having so many nominations for categories, this year's awards will be under an elimination basis with voting. When the time for voting comes, we will have weekly rounds. If the nomination meets the required amount of votes to move on to the next round, it moves on. If not, it is removed from the list. This is of course trusting the categories don't get a widely unanimous outcome. For example, for Heel of The Year, if someone gets 12 votes while the only person against them gets 1, that 12-voted person will be given the win. Probably. Unless there's some outcry about it.
Anyways, onto the meat of this. You wanna know the Categories, and here they are. Some have been removed, altered, or even added, but we're keeping the staples. If you wanna see a category added or have opinions on them, please let them be heard.
Superstar of The Year: This category represents THE character that you think stood out above all the rest. Face or heel, this is the one that you loved to follow and enjoyed the work of.
Face of The Year: This category represents that babyface that you rooted for everytime they were in the ring or working an angle. The fan favorite that had you wanting more! Comedic or serious, underdog or dominator. The only requirement this year is that they have extensive Face work in at least one guild.
Heel of The Year: You love to hate them, and you hate to see them succeed. The heels of our group, the ones that make you despise their work, but you can't help but read it. The cheapskate, the dirty player, you know what I'm talking about. Like the Face category, there must have shown extensive Heel work in at least one guild.
Rookie of The Year: "Who's this new guy? What's his character about? I dunno who he is, but I'm liking his work."
That quote basically describes this category. For the sake of simplicity, I will leave this to RPers that have entered our community AFTER the BiTB 2013.
RPer of The Year: This one differs from all the above ones. This isn't just about the character or the things they've done, or the multitudes of characters they use. This one is also about the person behind the character. How fun they are to work with, how enjoyable their work is, their work ethic in their matches, so on and so forth. This is the one for that guy you respect on more than an IC level, and wanna work with more than anyone. As this is a more personal one, I won't leave it up to nominations. When you cast your first ballot, simply include who you think fits this one for you. Chances are I will keep them hidden and announce them at the end of the year, that way people don't feel swayed or anything of the such. Or I will boil it down to the last three and ask everyone to vote. We'll just have to see!
New Character of The Year: This one's for the rookie characters that are in the hands of true veterans. The ones that prove that even when they put their main character aside, the one we know them for, they can 'wow' us in new ways. For this one, they must have debuted AFTER the BiTB 2013.
Tag Team/Faction of The Year: This one is pretty self explanatory. Due to the lack of tag teams and factions at the moment, I've combined the two categories to help make it an actual category.
Match of The Year: High impacts, tense cliffhangers, story-driven emotion, and tons of spots. Or, the match that just really hit a home run for you. This one is for the match that went above and beyond, and really showed off what the people involved could do.
Promo of The Year: Promos are our bread and butter. We love 'em and they are the basis of all storylines. This one's for the promo that really got you engaged into a story and blew you away with the execution. Chemistry, spots, and overall well-written work is what this one heralds.
Tentative - OMG Moment of The Year: Sometimes, promos and matches aren't always the best, but there's a particular moment in them that blows you away. The rest was okay, but this one moment... it was legendary. The OMG Moment of The Year is just that. Whether it's a small promo spot that really just hit it home, or a spot in a match that made the entire thing worth reading. Or, anything else that might fit this category. I leave it to your creativity to decide what goes here!
Tentative - WTF Moment of The Year: Sometimes, we go "OMG." Other times, we go "WTF." Something's off with this moment, something's strange, or we just really got turned off or confused by it. Once again, this one is all about your creativity and how you viewed something.
Storyline of The Year: I think this might be the biggest category of all. This storyline of the year. This one isn't for the longest story, but for the one that really blew people away. It could've lasted a few shows or not even make it passed one Pay-per-view, but if it's one that you really got engaged in all around, it belongs here.
Guild of The Year: I feel like this isn't one we should focus on anymore, but it's a staple and I agreed to keep such. The guild that you loved to compete in above all else. Where you have the most fun, where you feel like you've succeeded the most, so on and so forth.
NEW - Biggest Flop of The Year: Now this category might be my favorite, because it's one that we always try to forget. The flops. The screw-ups. The failed hype. The poor execution. This one is all about things that could've been, should've been, and would've been better, but fell short completely. Whether it's a character, tag team, match, promo, debut, card, guild, anything. Anything that had hype or you thought was gonna impress you that just fell incredibly short.
Those are the currently set categories. If you feel like I missed one or should include more, or even remove something, please let me know. Other than that, let the nominations begin! You are free to nominate as much as you want in any and all categories! I will be adding my own once we get the ball rolling here. Let's make this our best BiTB yet! smile

Also, just so it's clear, you can nominate things by posting in the thread with the following information:
1. What/who you are nominating. 2. The category it is for. 3. A link to the thread of which it took place (for people, it would be lovely to have a link to their profile, but is not entirely needed).

Nominating Aiden Covell vs. Jake Roman for MOTY, from BBW's Solar Slam PPV event. These two wrestlers debuted against one another in a best-of-five series, coming from various independents -- including mutual ones -- to come together and prove who was the most prepared for the big leagues. One of them was a very calculated, cold-blooded student of the game who made up for his lack of size with an excess of speed. The other was one who was a wrestler since birth; a high-energy big man trying to show he was more athletically gifted -- not only for his size, but for his profession -- than anyone else had given him credit for. The future of professional wrestling and it's epilogue were being wonderfully written by two young men with a hunger to impress everyone around them, but most of all themselves. Although the first match was wonderful, the next three matches were s**t since Enigma and I were going through serious life struggles at the time. However, the summary is as follows: Match #1 -- Jake Roman won via pinfall after hitting the Empire Strikes BackMatch #2 -- Aiden Covell wins via pinfall after bashing in Jake's shoulder repeatedly with a steel chair Match #3 -- Aiden Covell wins via pinfall after hitting a Face Off, pulling the arm of Jake's injured shoulder in the process Match #4 -- Jake Roman wins via submission thanks to the Crossface Chicken WingI present to you, sudden death.
