name : L'pin ( formerly Lupin ) age : 24 turns
gender : Male sexuality : Heterosexual
- -- -
personality : While seemingly carefree at first glance, L'pin is an individual who believes in what he says and does, backing all of his actions without any trace of doubt. He refuses to admit to his mistakes when confronted, instead choosing to just fix the problem and force people to move along at his pace. This does not mean that he is disrespectful to those above him, far from it, as he will bend his pride down and follow whatever instructions are handed his way.
Being Holdborn, many of L'pin's views are very jaded in regards to the Weyr's practices, though he keeps many of these thoughts to himself unless he feels compelled to share them with anyone else (usually Shamth).
L'pin is not fond of water and avoids having to go in/near it if at all possible. He has no problems with the water used for bathing and seems to accept the fact that rain cannot be avoided unless one goes indoors. The dislike of water does not stem from a childhood trauma, but more or less a preference developed over time.
- -- -
appearance : L'pin is of an average build, standing around 5'7". He is muscular from his youth spent hauling firestone around, as well as his time working with his dragon. He has ruddy reddish/brown hair that hangs about his face, framing his cheeks and giving his jaw a more pointed look. His eyes are a light shade of green and are set above sunfreckles that dot over his nose.
L'pin appears to be slightly tanned, though the hue is his natural skin tone. He keeps himself neat and tidy at all times, though every now and then he likes to walk around shirtless while in his weyr with Shamth.

pre-dragon history : Holdborn to a father who worked in the firestone pits and a mother who did her best in the trading system, L'pin would become the middle of three children before he reached his second turn. He spent his time assisting his father gathering firestone, content to be a laborer since it was all he knew, only to be searched when he approached thirteen turns.
candidate period : Adapting from Hold to Weyr life was rocky, as to be expected from a drastic change of views and practices, though he grew well enough and made his way through Candidacy.
Proving to be an eager worker and a generally good guy to have in your corner, L'pin made several friends he considered quite close. The small group was almost always inseparable, two of the boys being a few turns older than and one or two being close to the same age.
impression period : L'pin had been on the sands since his thirteenth turn, each Hatching ending with him going home without a dragon. While this did nothing to dissuade him and actually discourare L'pin's hopes, it did serve to make the thought of each hatching not as exciting as it once had been.
At the Impression of Shamth he was overjoyed to finally have a calling in life other than hauling firestone, and he has never looked back. However, things would not go quite so smoothly for him . . .

name : Shamth color : Blue
appearance : ( to be continued .. . .)
- -- -
personality : Wearing the facade of a polite dragon, one who behaves properly and is very sociable towards others, Shamth fools those who are around him with his first impression. While with his rider he puts on an act to please, being overly-polite when asked for help, even managing to stay in good spirits.
That is, only when L'pin or someone of higher standing is around.
When His is no longer near, Shamth's real personality emerges. Hateful and vindictive towards all of those who would dare call L'pin friend, or even look at him for too long, Shamth dares anyone to come near His.
He is not violent in his actions, given the nature of dragons, though this only applies to humans who stay near L'pin for what is considered too long in Shamth's tastes. Towards dragons he is often scathing in his comments and, more often than not, his actions with an occasional snap occurring. Though he has yet to actually bite another dragon, or injure them in another way, Shamth's point of dislike has been clearly announced.
He takes great measures to make sure that L'pin is seldom, if never at all, around when he decides to act in this manner. When he is actually caught first-handed behaving poorly by L'pin he quickly reverts to his preformed personality of well-about Blue and manages to stay with way for some time before his memory of the incident fades and Shamth returns to normal.
Towards the thoughts of mating flights, Shamth stays away the best he can. He does indeed feel the lustful urges that occur when a Green rises, though the want of L'pin not getting close to anyone if he can help it often prevents him from partaking. When asked by his rider why Shamth doesn't participate, the Blue merely feigns ignorance and suggests that perhaps it isn't time yet for him to try at a Flight.
- -- -
why L'Pin? : Shamth wanted a rider who would forgive all of his actions and even go to the point of defending him against others, which L'pin does without any hesitation. He would defend Shamth's behaviors to the grave if need be, and never stops trying to do so. It is not this singular act, however, that caused the Blue's selection.
He and L'pin share the common trait of not wanting to admit when they are wrong, even if causes extreme strife amongst others of their wing. They refuse to be corrected by anyone but each other (and those with power), and even then they take the advice in stride.
* Due to Shamth's rather possessive and snappy ways in regards to other dragons who dawdle just a little too long near His instead of staying with fully with Theirs, the dragon and his Rider often find themselves performing menial labor around the Weyr instead of participating in training exercises or going out on Searches with others.
While L'pin will still without question defend his dragon's actions when confronted with them by other Riders, as well as common Weyrfolk, it is impossible for the Blue to not notice the strain it occasionally has on the social interactions of his with others. Shamth actually has made attempts to mellow himself through age and let L'pin have a bit more . . .freedom with others, per say, though he is still far from the model dragon that many in the Weyr would like him to be.
- -- -
You'll forgive Shamth no matter what, right Lupinmine? Shamth knows you will.

name : Rinel color : Green
personality : Hatching from an egg that L'pin received when he and Tethis were exploring the beach, Rinel is nothing short of a mess.
When meeting new people she acts reserved, often not straying far from L'pin's side or his shoulders. She seems to like his hair quite a bit, always stuffing her snout into it or picking at it playfully with her front paws. L'pin is pretty sure if she found it suitable for a clutch to be laid in, he'd wake up one morning to find one there.
In regards to flights and being fertile, Rinel will be quite so. Rising more often than not and just causing general mayhem, L'pin would like to know where half of these eggs are going because he'd be set for life if he ever managed to find one of her clutches. She doesn't seem to hold a fancy for any of the colors, nor a particular firelizard.
Towards Shamth (and most other dragons) she's a bit of an airhead, taking little to no caution after a first approach. She likes to make lots of loud noises, always bugling or chirping to make sure attention is hers.
This, of course, irritates Shamth to no end. L'pin is amused.

name : Hinalle color : Green
personality : Slightly smaller than Rinel, she was a gift to L'pin from his cousin Yulu who had received the egg from an unnamed source. Hinalle holds herself in a state of constant contradiction despite being such a small green.
Hinalle is not an affectionate flit in the general manner of the word, often refusing to be touched. She hisses and bites at any hands that stray near her, even L'pin's own, and can often be found glowering in a corner if for some reason she was able to be caught and petted. Affectionate actions must be based on her terms, and she must be the one to initiate said contact. L'pin finds himself getting rubbed against his legs, only to reach down and be bitten when he tries to respond with kindness.
Despite her lack of wanting to be touched Hinalle is the type to be there whenever someone needs her most. Always a quiet presence in the room, one merely needs to look around in order to spot her quietly resting nearby. Every now and then she will make a content sound to let anyone know that everything is alright in her world, though very rarely does she act vocally. She sleeps at L'pin's side during the night, close to him but away from Rinel, and greets him in the morning as he wakes.
Shamth doesn't really know what to make of her as she keeps her distance and shows no signs of possession as Rinel does, though it's obvious he's not that fond of her. L'pin enjoys her quiet company, though he wishes she'd stop biting him.

the weyr
The weyr that L'pin and Shamth share is rather small and cozy, allowing for close contact between rider and dragon. Due to his rather clean nature, it is spotless save for dirt near the door from where boots and work clothing are commonly shed.
There is what appears to be a log book resting near the head of the bed, perhaps keeping record of L'pin's personal thoughts or notes about daily activities or interactions with others.

The sands were hotter than usual on the day of the Hatching, to be expected anyway since the eggs were all but cracking where they lay, and as Lupin pulled on his candidate robes for what he thought to be another uneventful Standing he couldn't shake the feeling that rolled inside his stomach. It wasn't the usual butterflies that all Candidates were prone to feeling when time came to face the chance of having a Dragon partner for the rest of their life but more like a steady thrum that echoed into his chest and perhaps even his bones. It was easy enough to ignore this sensation as he and the others hurried along, conversation between them all nothing more then nervous whispers and from some boasts, though when the mouth of the cavern was reached all voices fell silent. The sound of humming, coming from the great beasts who watched with intense focus, was the only thing now filling the air.
Silently the Candidates filed themselves out onto the sands, Lupin in his usual place between the two guys he could consider his closest friends since coming to the Weyr, and as one of the eggs began to rock where it lay the sounds of breath catching in many throats at once seemed to overpower the quieting dragon humming. This wasn't a particularly large clutch, Telgar had seen days of bigger as well as days of smaller, and it certainly wasn't the largest or smallest that Lupin had ever seen. . .but there was something about this clutch that made him feel uneasy. It wasn't a bad feeling, more like one of pure anticipation, and it occurred to the seventeen-turn old youth that he hadn't felt like this in a while. Several hatchings had passed him by before with Lupin leaving the sands alone and a little disheartened each time, but now...now he was perhaps actually feeling excited.
As the first egg hatched and the dragonet spilled to the sands the crowd around them went into their usual flurry of cheers and whistles, growing softer or louder depending on the actions the dragonet performed until they Impressed. It was easy enough, hardly anyone seemed to be frightened by this first egg, and it went continued on. Eggs two and three, each with radiant dragons in their own right, passed on without so much as the beasts casting a single glance in Lupin's direction. Around him his comrades sighed with each failure that came their way, one of them looking like he wanted to cry with the knowledge that this was his last chance to Stand before he passed the Turn limit for being on the sands. Lupin would have pitied him if for the fact that he knew his own time would grow closer if this Hatching did not succeed, but silence was wanted on the sands always. It was Tradition, and Telgar seemed to thrive on that. More eggs had hatched on the sands while Lupin was distracted in his thoughts, the only thing tearing him away from thinking about the future was that the cheers had stopped. They were replaced by screams coming from the sands, voices echoing out in pain, and the youth turned his troubled eyes away from his feet and actually up towards the spectacle that was unfolding before him.
It seemed as though a blue had hatched onto the sands and was causing some kind of trouble. Its eyes were red, frantic, and its claws seemed to have no hesitation finding places to rest in the bodies of the Candidates who scattered away from the beast in terror. Those who had been around Lupin were moving away as well, everyone knowing the trouble with a dragonet who hatched terrified or angry, but for reasons beyond himself the youth found his feet unwilling to move. The dragonet seemed to be more than eager to do all the moving between this pair, rushing here and there and terrorizing those not swift enough to make an escape, even daring to move at any other hatchlings still on the sands and making their way off and to the side.
The rampage continued, the dragonet silent in his thoughts and not letting anyone feel anything from him but sheer rage and terror, leaving those who managed to stay standing in their spots to speak against Tradition. There were words spoken about how a dragonet like this would probably not be accepted well by others, how the other dragons witnessing these events today may forget but not their Riders. Even words like "unforgivable" dared to leak out over the grounds, coupled with words like "poor rider" and "let the beast go between if there's nothing here for it", leaving Lupin to look at those around him with mild disgust. Had they all not been raised to respect dragons and never wish harm on them? He was Holdborn himself, not of the Weyr like so many that were bleeding and cursing on the sands, so he felt that those who were swearing should have had a better understanding and a larger capability of forgiveness towards the scene they were witnessing today.
It was getting to be a bit too much, Lupin tired of watching and seeing the people panic. He was safe where he was, sort of in the back of the line and away from where the dragonet was going on his spree, and Lupin closed his eyes as he waited for the sounds of screams to move along. It was hardly like this was the first and only brutal hatching that the Telgar Sands had seen. There had been many, Lupin had been in many, so why were people acting so upset over this? The dragonet was a baby, it knew no better, so they should be willing to overlook this and perhaps even forgive all of its actions. Lupin knew he would, there was no need to be so upset. Even if he had gotten hurt in the process as well he'd still forgive the little beast, knowing that this would pass.
That's right little guy. It's okay, not your fault.
But then the loud voices stopped, silence followed. Had something happened while he was thinking, his eyes closed and his fists clenched to his sides? Had the dragonet Impressed and gone away, leaving the grounds safely?
You'll forgive Shamth no matter what, right Lupinmine? Shamth knows you will.
There was a voice that echoed in his head, one that caused Lupin to turn and glance to see if the others were speaking with him. Instead the look on the faces told him they had said nothing, the horror and disgust more evident then any words, and Lupin swung his head side to side to see what the cause was. It was only when his gaze stopped directly in front of himself that he saw a hint of blue in the corner of his eye, his head turning down to look at the dragonet from before. It had stopped in front of him, eyes still a fierce red and body still emitting rage, but it wasn't moving towards him nor away from him.
Do you forgive me, Lupinmine? It was all to find you, so you must.
". . . . of course I will. You've done nothing wrong."
As he spoke the people around him gave stifled gasps, watching as Lupin reached his hand out and gently stroked the face of the dragonet who'd been raining terror upon them all not even moments ago. The red eyes slowly swirled down to a gentle blue-green, a happy thrum issuing from the Blue who called himself Shamth, and Lupin couldn't help but find a smile cracking over his face at all the love and devotion that seemed to be pouring into his very soul. Was this the reason he'd been feeling so unwell, the innate knowledge that he would Impress today?
"Come on, let's get you something to eat."
He spoke loudly, not really the kind to try and keep things inside his head just yet, and as Shamth gave a happy reply that he would be more then glad to have his stomach full, Lupin took a last moment to glance at the people he'd considered his friends before walking off. Surely they'd be happy for him, right? He'd Impressed, only days before they all sat around talking about how to congratulate one another should this time find them with a Lifemate, so it was only natural that they'd all want to give him a good luck. Right?
The expression on their faces spoke otherwise. No one looked happy, no one looked even remotely pleased. There were looks of hate directed his way, some expressions mirroring on pity, and Lupin bit his lower lip as his hand reached down to once again stroke the hide of the dragon who was to be his partner. All those comments about pitying the rider, about the rider being so unfortunate, it all came true on him now.
He was L'pin of Blue Shamth, and he was not going to be wanted well.
