Feylith landed in their weyr with a heavy thud, shrieking defiance back in the direction of the hot springs even as Tethis told him to hush. His didn't hurt as badly anymore, and he noticed the crease had disappeared during the flight. You should have let me teach them to be cruel to what is mine.
"We are not weyrlings, and you know better. You are big, but he is bigger. If he had hurt you, how would I have been? And you can't teach all the idiots in this Weyr." Tethis dug in her chest, pulling out another canteen of the Benden. It was her last one, the other being by the hot spring with that brownrider. "I hope your dragon chokes on a rock." she muttered.
Feylith looked satisfied. You should have said that to him.
"I don't want to make more enemies. I already have enough just for being here." Shards! She tugged on a pair of breeches, leaving her top the bathing top she'd worn to the hot springs.
Should we bring someone with us, to the ocean? I'm sure one of the blueriders would go with us.
"We can see who is around." she said finally, knowing she may be tempted to do something stupid if it was just the two of them.
Shamth and L'pin, the ones we met in the springs before. They should be around.
And with that, the dragon and His went in search of someone to go enjoy themselves with- well, as much as they could.

Mine, you look like you want to take a break. You should rest.
Shamth looked over at His as the young man stuck a shovel into the ground, the dirt giving way beneath a heavy kick of a boot. The pair had been assigned the duty of digging trenches (what the hell for, L'pin didn't know), and as another shovelful of dirt went slightly over his shoulder but mostly into his shirt, the Bluerider sighed and pulled the offending piece of clothing up to shake the dirt out.
"I'm pretty sure I can finish this little bit quickly so if I stop now it would have been a waste of my time. If you're bored you don't have to stay with me, you can go back to the weyr. I don't really need you looming over my shoulder and scaring all my supposed help away."
I do not know what you are talking about.
That was a clear lie on behalf of the Blue, for as soon as the pair had stepped out this morning to start work with the candidates L'pin had been avoided like he had the plague even by some of the kids he considered to be of the nicer sort. Only a few spoke to him, from a good distance away, though all of them refused to get any closer. The rider wasn't dumb, he knew his dragon was the cause of their distance as well as the cause of his punishment.
Despite knowing all that and always having to work, L'pin didn't feel like pinning a blame at all on Shamth, instead usually telling his Blue that people were just being polite and not wanting to interfere with their work because he was a rider. Shamth didn't buy that lie either.
At the very least, now that Mine is done, we should go out and get cleaned up. I feel dusty and you look like you have been rolling on the ground.
"Thanks for reminding me."
L'pin smiled and reached over to pet the snout of his Dragon, the Blue having stayed no further than an arms reach from his side this entire time. Shamth really couldn't stand to be apart from L'pin for too long and honestly L'pin didn't seem to mind.

I was right. Feylith's mind-voice was smug. He cried out a call, and Tethis flung herself off of her bonded's back as soon as he came to a halt just out of range of Shamth. It was, after all, rude to take off or land too close unless one had to.
"Heya, L'pin!" she called out a greeting. "And good afternoon to you as well, Shamth. You're looking less grimy than Yours, at least. I think." she gave them both a smile, eying them both equally. The knot in her stomach was relaxing already, looking at two who weren't going to judge her for being a woman; the benden in her stomach didn't hurt, nor did the prospect of going to the ocean. "All work and no play will make Shamth a dull boy, L'pin. Making Shamth do your dirty work." Her tone was light, teasing.
She was wearing breeches, a top for bathing, and holding a jug that was obviously- judging by the light flush on her cheeks- holding a wine of some sort. "Feylith and I are going to the beach."
The beach, Shamth! Feylith's eyes whirled at the other blue, excited. I'll get to see mine Swim in real waves! Not the ones I make for her in the hot springs!
"And I'm going to swim." Tethis continued, talking to L'pin as though she hadn't heard Hers talking to the other dragon. "And get completely wasted, most like. It's been a long day. You in for a little fun?"
She glanced at the trench he'd been digging all day and then quirked her brow at the young man.

. . . .ugh.
L'pin had to cover his mouth to stifle the chuckle that nearly escaped from the sound his dragon had made, his face turning red as a few weird sounds squeezed themselves through his fingers. Shamth clearly was not pleased that someone had approached the pair, more or less someone they both knew from before, and when the Blue witnessed the girl-rider coming his way the color of his eyes seemed to flicker if only for a moment from green to red.
Mine, whatever it is they want you're better off not being interested. Trust me.
Be quiet please.
"Well met Tethis, Feyith, though I think you're a bit off in your mark about who's doing all the labor. All this fellow here does is keep me hot by breathing down my neck on an hourly basis."
Another gentle rub was placed on Shamth's snout, though L'pin barely had to move at this point to do it. The Blue had lowered his head enough that it was pressing into L'pin's side like it had been sewed there by some force. He was breathing rather heavily, the puffs from his nose ruffeling fabric and shaking free clumps of dirt.
"The beach, hmm? I don't think I've been to one of those in a very long time, at least not sense I came to the Weyr."
Feel free to take just Yours and go then, since Mine does not like water. Surely he is going to refuse.
Shamth sounded confident in his choice, his head raised high and his expression daring towards the much larger Blue that chattered at him. He knew his well enough to know that L'pin wouldn't want to go in the ocean, it was full of that horrible water that he really disliked. Even getting him to the springs was a chore, though easily done when parties were sore and wanting relief.
"Sounds good. Anywhere in mind?"
And of course, Shamth was wrong. Shards!

Feylith chuckled at Shamth, his mind-voice for the other dragon alone. His own gentle prodding at the other blue, who had even more of a protective streak for His than Feylith himself. Mine, Shamth says they-
"Excellent." Tethis responded, teal eyes gleefully dancing as L'pin agreed to come along. Feylith chuckled again at the blue, his eyes whirling amusement. Tethis seemed to almost dance over to her dragon, rubbing his shoulder fondly. It gave L'pin a clear view of the terrible white scar that twisted starkly along her tanned back from the left shoulder towards the right side of her body, disappearing into her pants so he couldn't tell where it ended. "Company, Feylith!" That was when the blonde woman revealed a surprise- several meatrolls, some cheese, four bubbly pies and a container of what smelled like klah when she opened it. And Benden secure at her side. "A feast meant for more than two, but you are the two we came across first, and-"
I want to get going. Feylith interrupted her, letting his mind-voice carry over to the other rider as well. So we don't have time for anyone else. Too slow, Mine.
"You were the one flying like a wherry." she sounded disgruntled. Feylith snorted at her in playful outrage, butting her gently with his huge nose until she tipped over in mocking response. "Anyways, so I was thinking about going to the beach near Tillek. I know the area pretty well, and can give a clear enough picture to Feylith to pass on to Shamth if you've never been there." she smiled from the ground, then pushed herself up off the ground easily and stood next to her dragon-love. "I won't even force you to surf, but I may push you into the water. Don't worry, the salt will help you float."

"I never said I couldn't swim. And all that food looks good, don't be surprised if you find that it may not take more than just the two of us to eat it all."
L'pin was already moved to atop Shamth, the drill of them getting ready to fly somewhere so memorized between them that is was almost fluid. They had moved quickly to try and avoid any unwarranted questions about the markings on Tethis's back; Shamth didn't care either way, L'pin was only mildly curious as to how far it went down.
"And please, go ahead and give the directions to Shamath. He'll take it from there, I know I can count on him to arrive at the right destination. Right?"
Only since you have asked me, I would be more than glad to.
The words were spoken to L'pin alone, as Shamth seemed to be doing his utmost best to ignore the pair that they would be traveling with. They had only been around him and his for but a few moments, though to the Blue it was a few moments too long. The rider sighed and rubbed an area of hide near his leg to reassure his bonded that this would be fun, it's an adventure, but the grumbles really didn't cease.
Hurry and tell me so we can go. I don't want to stay longer than needed.
This time his words hissed at Feylith, annoyed by his bantering interactions with Tethis.

Feylith's eyes flickered annoyance at the other dragon, but it was so momentary it barely had a chance to bleed across to His. He patiently let His mount, securing the food, and then passed the directions he received to the other dragon. When he was sure Shamth was ready, he was gone in a flicker.
So cold, Tethis thought, and then it was heat and sparkling blue. The sound of water, and crashing, and little else but nature itself. Feylith's own eyes widened in surprise at the difference of it, and then he was shooting for the water, skimming across it fast enough to give his Own a thrill. He felt her pleasure as acutely as his own, and the feeling of home. And then he panicked, feeling her stand up on his back and leap from his body. She entered the waves like a fish, and he keened, fretting.
This was much, much deeper than the springs! Oh, oh, what if she left her Feylith behind? How would he- and then she was surfacing, and he cried out in relief, even as he saw the look of happiness on her face. You are cruel, Mine! I was afraid!
I'm sorry, love. She responded, seeing that his eyes had turned frantic. That was wrong of me. But she sent him soothing thoughts- the shore was close, and she'd come to no harm leaping off him; she would swim there right now, but he mustn't get the food wet!
Your Favorite!
It is safe. The container lets no liquid out, and no liquid in.
He gave her a look of reproach, but flew towards the beach, and by the time she trudged out of the water, he was ready to swim as well. She was having so much fun riding the waves that it was infectious.

Between was cold as always, sending away the sweat that had been gathering on L'pin's body almost instantly; he was almost too thankful for when the pair broke through and were greeted by the blaring heat that accompanies a beach. The young rider took a good look around as they came down for a landing, close to the larger blue yet still a respectful distance away, and he was pretty impressed with what he was seeing.
He'd never been to a beach, as he had though before, so the moment his shoes sunk into the sands beneath him L'pin's mind was thrown back to the hatching grounds. It was hard to walk, he wobbled uneasily with each step, until he peeled the boots off and tossed them in front of a rather grumbling blue. Walking was significantly less difficult now as he made his way over the hot earth and towards the tides, watching the girl he'd accompanied already splash around in the waves like she was some sort of fish.
Her dragon didn't seem to pleased by it all, making worried sounds and acting like a child hurting for a parent, leaving Shamth to grumble again about the youth of some dragons. L'pin politely reminded him to be quiet, they were guests, and the Blue promptly fell silent.
"It's good to see she's having fun, but I seriously don't think either of you could get me into that water. If I can't see the bottom properly I feel that I have no need to be entering it for any reason."
He was speaking to Feylith, as Tethis was out of his way and probably out of proper earshot, and he didn't expect to get a reply from the dragon. It was mostly conversation, enough to annoying his own special partner.

Shamth's says that he won't go in past where he can touch bottom. Feylith didn't speak to the rider, but he would at least pass on the message, so when Tethis finally trudged up out of the sea, grinning like a feline spoilt by one of the kitchen hands, she knew exactly where he could go out to.
"You shouldn't have a problem getting out at least to knee height. It's a ledge pretty far out before it dropped; you could probably get about neck deep before you'd have to worry about losing bottom." She gave him a grin. "Feylith insinuated you were a little worried." She stretched her muscled out before clambering up to remove her dragon's riding straps and the food bag, setting it out on the white sand.
Her boots were in poor shape, and likely would be. She shook her head, cursing her eagerness mentally. You did it to yourself, mine.
Oh, hush. "How many turns have you, L'pin?" she asked curiously, wondering. How long had he suffered this... was it a phobia?... of water? How did he take a bath if he didn't like water? And then she grinned, realizing how silly that was. She'd seen him at the springs, obviously it wasn't that bad.

"I'm twenty-four turns, I'll gain another one come this winter. I've got a good eight turns on you."
Yes, he knew how old she was. L'pin liked to ask around, per say, about those he may be working with eventually - plus getting gossip on a female rider wasn't exactly hard to do.
Cheeky brat, I have turns on your dragon as well.
It was L'pin's turn to tell his dragon to hush, his warning to Shamth loud in the area. He had no idea why his blue was being this hostile so early into the meeting, normally he would last a little bit longer or at least waited for a while before lashing out, though it seemed right away the dragon had gone into his scathing words.
. . . Fine then.
Shamth seemed to disapprove of being told to silence himself, shaking his massive head and moving towards the water. While L'pin didn't like the water too much Shamth was rather indifferent to it, and he'd never been into something that smelled heavily like salt. He recieved a gentle word of concern from his rider as he splashed in, though Shamth ignored it.
He wanted to pout for a while.
"About swimming though, I told you before that I can swim - I just would prefer to see the bottom. There are things that we cannot see, many things we do not know about, living out in the waters. If I can see something I have a better chance."

"Seven." she chirped, cheekily. "I'll be eighteen turns before you've twenty-five." She sounded like she thought herself so mature, her teal eyes gleaming at him over her shoulder. And as the dragon called her a cheeky brat, her grin widened. "It means you'll get older sooner too, master dragon." she replied.
It was multifaceted eyes that flashed annoyance at the other dragon; Tethis didn't mind as it wasn't something she considered disparaging so much as a statement of fact. She was being cheeky, and enjoying company she could feel playful around. Feylith's huge head moved closer to her and she rubbed the eye ridges almost absently, the massive blue giving a rumble of pleasure. Why don't you go keep Shamth company? I'll follow you seen, darling.
The dragon shifted to look at the other dragon, tail twitching in a manner that may have reminded L'pin of the look some dragons got in their eyes before torturing wherries, or of the felines in the Weyr kitchens stalking prey. But his multifaceted eyes were only whirling mischief, and the ocean-colored blue looked peaceful enough as he moved towards the other. Don't worry old one, Mine won't try and steal yours away. She's content with me. the mind voice was sly.
Tethis watched her dragon leave, the loneliness when he was not next to her the same as always. "I think Feylith is up to some mischief. I'll apologize in advance- it's probably my fault anyways." She buried her small feet in the sand and let her body fall backwards into one of the drifts, sighing happiness at the warmth on the bare skin of her arms and back. The salty sea air, wind whipping against her skin... "I understand the discomfort, wanting to see where you are. All the better to keep out of the way of the man-eating fish. We may be lucky enough to see a pod of shipfish, though." she sounded excited. Feylith, tell Shamth to be careful if you decide to hunt fish; you may hunt the wrong kind. With her orders she sent mental images of what not to hunt.

A brat like her could never take Mine's interests, so there was never a trace of doubt. Mine has far greater taste.
Shamth sounded so matter of fact as he dove into the water, letting his massive body propel him out into the depths. When an image of fish he should leave alone was sent to him from Feylith via his rider, the Blue didn't care. He wasn't going to hunt for fish, as far as he knew his didn't even like the smell of fish, he was just wanting to swim.
"There's no need for you to apologize, but I'll warn you in advance that I won't apologize either should Shamth respond in turn. He's a fine Dragon, but he tends to not take well to pranks played by others."
L'pin didn't say anything more as he squatted down on the ground, his eyes taking in how hot it could really be, before he finally sprawled out too. The heat of the sands felt amazing on his back and arms, almost like he'd gotten his own personal heating system. He could probably lay like this all day, letting his worries float away and the sun tan his skin.
"You weren't originally from Telgar, where you?"

Feylith was amused, and let it show before he dove under the water, looking curiously for the fish he wasn't supposed to hunt. He saw a spiderclaw- one he could hunt, but it looked so odd!- and grabbed it in one claw, bringing it to the surface to give to His.
"I wouldn't expect you to apologize." Tethis' voice was happy, content. "As for Telgar, no; I was born in Harper Hall, got sent away for fighting. Grew up with a friend of my mother's in a Hold, and at fourteen apprenticed out to Seacraft Hall. I was Searched on a break to visit my mother." So many years all compacted into an easy sentence. As a shadow fell over her, she opened her eyes curiously to look at Feylith. He was hobbling a bit, on three legs, one of his front hands curiously closed.
I brought you a present to look at, Mine.
"A present, hmm?"
It bites.
"A present that bites?" her voice was rich with confusion. "Well, let me see then." And she grinned as Feylith dropped a spiderclaw onto the sand. The creature had a small body with long legs that were tipped with small claws. The body was hard, protective. In fact, it was a food source for some people, if she recalled. She sent her dragon an explanation of what this odd-looking creature was as it scuttled away, unerringly for the ocean waters.
Feylith took to the air, moving out into the water before letting his massive body free-fall into the sea with a cracking sound and a huge splash. Tethis took a moment to ensure her wherry-minded friend hadn't hurt himself before turning her attention back to L'pin. "Where were you from? Or were you Telgar-born?" She didn't think he was, but who knew?

Shamth, please don't mimic the actions of this blue. I don't think I could handle two sea creatures.
As Feylith waddled forward and tossed something before his, L'pin's upper lip curled slightly with distaste. He didn't like the smell of things that came out of the water, let along the appearance of them, but Tethis seemed amused by her dragon clearly getting something he probably was told not to in the first place. Deep inside he was thankful that for all his faults Shamth wasn't a deadglow in terms of pure judgment.
When the blue waddled off and went back into the water, L'pin sent his own concern to his bonded just in case he might have come into impact with Feylith. The response was short and sweet.
If I can't avoid something that big and colorful I have no need of eyes.
L'pin had to chuckle and sent a well wish for Shamth to enjoy himself, finally turning his focus back to his companion as she spoke to him and asked his own history.
"I was born in High Telgar Hold, but came to the Weyr at thirteen turns. I suppose I could call that place as much of my home as the Hold, since I've almost spent equal amounts of turns in both places. It's actually funny, but since I've come to the Weyr and have become a rider I'm still doing the same type of work I did back at the Hold."

"Have you ever eaten fish?" she glanced over at the other Rider, noticing the way his lip was curled. "That was a spiderclaw, a food source for some. I know Telgar gets little enough that isn't wherry meat." she let her darkly tanned toes wriggle through the sand, watching them almost critically.
She glanced up at his chuckle, but he was already moving on. "High Telgar Hold, eh? I've been there before, though rarely. I can't imagine having spent..." she did some quick math. "Eleven turns in the weyr?" she sounded surprised. "How long ago did you Impress?" Her white teeth flashed as his comment about the work. "Your Shamth is so friendly, I've no clue why you seem to dig so many trenches." her eyes danced; she didn't mean it maliciously. "Of course, Feylith and I dig our share; I get cut little slack just for being a woman who dared to Impress a blue." her lip curled in disdain. "Shards it annoys me. Antiquated old wherries."
