For as much as Yulu prided herself on knowing about dragons, she always seemed to be a bit behind in the general knowledge of caring for their smaller cousins, the firelizard. It had been about three months since Song had come from her shell and into the world, her body growing rapidly and her personality developing stronger with each passing day, but for some reason or another the little Gold simply refused to fly.

Yulu had checked over her wings several times, the flitt mildly pleased and contented when the young woman had gotten her to lay on the bed and allow her wings to be spread, but so far she had found no faults. All of the muscles on her back looked strong too, nothing that could be strained, yet still the Golden beast refused to even take a few strides out into the open air. Song was far more content, it seemed, to keep herself on Yulu's person at almost all times. Even in the bath she would stay on Yulu's lap or shoulder, moving onto her head when ushered away.

She didn't really know who else to talk to that possessed flitts other than Jada, the girl who'd given Song and a second egg to Yulu . . . though that very train of thought lead her to the fact that she did indeed know someone she could talk to. While his dragon was something she had never met, only heard rumors of, Yulu knew that she could find that bluerider L'pin and ask him. He had two of the little beasts, one of them coming from an egg she gave him, so perhaps he would know. The fact that he also did have a dragon would certainly help, so Yulu soon found herself tucking Song into her shirt as usual and heading towards the place she had last seen the young man.

L'pin was rather content to spend the day outside in the cold, a rare chance for him to be out and about without the worries of having chores to do, and as he walked towards where his massive play stood waiting he was pleased to notice a Green figure slowly following behind him. He had never been sure about Hinalle's feelings towards him, her aloof nature hard to read and her biting making it sometimes impossible to do, but now that he spotted her following him outside even in the cold it made it a little clearer. About as clear as murky water, but certainly more clear then just mud.

Since there was no reason for him to stay around he thought about taking a quick trip out to someplace warm, though such thoughts banished themselves from his mind as he remembered the fact that there was rumor of plague outside this Weyr and that anyone who felt like coming and going was often punished and placed in a quarantine. As much as L'pin wanted to go he would have to stay, and as he reached Shamth's side and placed a hand on one of the massive legs, suddenly having to stay grounded didn't seem like such a bad idea. If he were to get sick and perish, what then of Shamth? He would go between and probably not be missed by anyone at the Weyr, but it was always a shame for a dragon to go.

By now Hinalle had drawn close enough that she actually dared to land atop L'pin's head and shoulders, her little body shivering against the cold, and the man chuckled as he tried to reach for her to pull her down and into a warm hug. She hissed and snapped at his fingers, very clearly not wanting to be touched just yet. It wasn't that cold, and she would move into his arms at her own digression.

Okay, so L'pin wasn't in the spots that Yulu thought she might find him in. He was absent from the kitchens, the people there saying they hadn't seen him a while, and he wasn't located near one of the indoor bathrooms that was slowly backing up and needed cleaned. Yulu wasn't sure why she thought to look for him there, but what he'd said before about being the Weyr mule and almost always doing manual chores made her think twice, so when he wasn't actually doing work she frowned deeply. His choices of places to go were very limited, what with talk of the plague keeping people in place and refusing to let them come and go as they pleased, and Yulu was pretty sure L'pin wasn't the type to just get up and go either.

She was about to start having to actually ask more than just one or two people about his location when the flit in her shirt chirped a question, asking if it were alright for Hinalle to come over and see them. Apparently the Green had wanted to see her clutch sister a good bit and was even bringing her person over with her, and Song wanted to know if Yulu thought it was okay. Yulu could have slapped herself on the head for not using such an obvious way of finding the man, but considering no one else would ever have to know she kept the theatrics to a minimum. She merely reassured the flitt that it was okay for them to see one another again, and no sooner had she said such a thing then L'pin appeared at the corner of the hall she was standing in.

Grinning weakly, she raised a hand of her own in greeting.

"Yo. Been wanting to see you to ask you a few things."

L'pin was pleased to see that Hinalle actually was taking him to Yulu, his mind telling him that it was a strong chance after his little Green had taken off back inside giving to him random thoughts containing a golden flitt and a girl who looked like a man. He was thankful that both things turned out to mean Yulu and not someone else, as L'pin was not feeling in the most chatty of moods despite nearly always having a smile on his face. The cold weather and the fact that he was now permanently grounded did wonders for a personality, though overall he would remain quite friendly to the girl before him. He had no reason to act cruel to her.

"Oh, you really were looking for me? It's a good thing then that Hinalle and Song are still so close to one another despite not being there at the others hatching. I wonder if any other firelizards feel something like this, or are the two of ours just special like that? I mean, that's not to say I haven't seen flitts get attached to other flitts without problem, but I've never known to be from the same clutch."

Rinel certainly didn't act this way with the eggs that Tethis had brought back and given to someone at the Weyr, whatever those hatched into certainly considered her siblings. Rinsel actually didn't spend a lot of time with another other flitts unless it was time for her to rise, but he shook his head inwardly as he tried to push that thought away.

"But anyway, what was it you were needing? Did something come up that made you need a hand?"

"I've actually got some questions for you that I'd like you to answer. It's nothing really personal or overly major, like me actually being interested in you or whatever it is you do, but I think thus far you're the only person I could actually talk to over this. I'd heard there was a woman who dealt with flitts as her form of Beastcraft, but I've never been the type of guy to go and seek someone like that for advice. Journeyman rank folk have always rubbed me the wrong way."

Yulu looked L'pin up and down as the man walked beside her, wondering how sad it was that her only choice for questions now lay on the shoulders of a man many people in the Weyr actually went out of their way to avoid talking to. It was a shame they felt that way, she'd always found his company at the very least pleasant, and she certainly preferred it over many of the Candidates she'd met along the way. He didn't ask much from her and never made faces when she referred to herself as a man, though he did look sad the first time she'd said it. It was something that always stuck itself in the back of her mind, but she wasn't pressing too hard on it for now.

"The question mostly has to deal with the growth rate of flitts, more specifically how long it takes them to want to fly. I've long noticed by now that Hinalle has been in the air for more then three months, yet my Song stays grounded and always on my shoulder or in my shirt. I've checked over her wings and the muscles, both seem to be fine, but she refuses to leave and take to the air. I won't say I'm worried, but it does have me curious."
