Shamth was sleeping out on a sunny patch of grass when L'pin decided to touch his mind to see how close to stirring the massive blue actually was. When all he got back was nothing but the darkness of a mind dreaming he gave a sigh of boredom and stretched his arms over his head, the vertebrae in his back cracking with the sudden motion. He gave a soft groan as one of them popped a little more than he wanted it to, arms jerking down quickly, but overall he was still okay and if anything a bit more awake.

Beside him the dragon stirred, hot air blowing from his nostrils onto L'pin's legs, though he still showed no signs of waking. It would be possible for him to get up and wander a bit away while the beast was still out cold, and L'pin did want to stretch his legs while he could be by himself.

This was their first day off in a very long time, the manual labor they'd been getting from the Jr. Weyrwomen growing longer and longer in the lists each day. Shamth hadn't even been acting out on anyone or anything for a while thanks to the sheer amount, but that didn't mean the rider and dragon weren't feeling frustrated. It was only a matter of time before one or both of them exploded their upset, so today was a well deserved day.

Slowly the man rose to his feet and dusted the back of his pants and shirt, knocking the grass and loose dirt to the ground, his body having collected some pieces while dozing beside his Lifemate. His legs carried him past the feeding pens, their sleeping spot outside in the Bowl instead of near their personal weyr, and as he headed inside he couldn't help but notice a few people took great measures to walk around him. At first he thought it was his imagination making him believe so, but as one person actually smooshed themselves against the wall to let him pass he had to stop and raise an eyebrow.

"Seriously?"

He wasn't even with Shamth, so why were people treating him like he had the Plague? This was ridiculous, all he'd wanted was to come in and grab something before heading back out. It didn't even seem like worth the effort to do anything now other than just leave, the people whispering and staring, so L'pin heaved a sigh as he turned to go. . . only to find himself coming into full contact with a young woman.

"Tsk, hey. You okay?"

The smell of the fresh air as Nevele breathed deep felt good after spending a good many hours at home. A bit of reprieve had come in the form of a day away from the claustrophobic atmosphere of the kitchens, and she was thankful for the break. Although a walk had not been initially planned, she thought it best to get out and be around the people she didn't see every day.

The idea of a short trip to the springs, however, sounded like the sort of thing that provided enough motivation to get her on the long walk. But as happily as she accepted the idea with a small satchel of food at her side, her mind began to wander, and wandering minds tended to find trouble.

She let her thoughts drift off towards the tales that Maro had shared the previous evening with her and the rest of her assistants, and she chuckled to herself while darting this way and that between the crowdgoers. A story from long ago involving a mix-up during a Mating flight.. they had all laughed until their sides were sore--

The daydream met with a sharp end when she collided with one of the bodies she had failed to move past. Nevele's face grew hot from the sudden embarrassment of the situation and she stumbled back. Immediately her eyes darted to the face of the man she had collided before lowering at his question.

"N-No.. I'm perfectly fine.. but are you alright? I apologize! I really must watch where I'm going." Her innards squirmed nervously under the scrutiny of this stranger (or the look that she took to be scrutiny) and her hands began to move out of nervous compulsion, keeping pace with her mouth as speech kept marching on. "It's a bad habit, you see.. my daydreaming. I hope that I haven't embarrassed you or--" The sack went flying from her hands as she gestured and landed a few feet away. A soft splattering inside let her know the fate of her slice of bubbly pie. "... Shards."

L'pin had to blink a bit to prevent himself from laughing at all the words that suddenly came spewing out of this little girl before him. He'd simply asked her if she was okay, expecting a short yes or no, but instead she went on to try and explain the reason she'd bumped into him - ending all of it with tossing her food to the side. The odd squishing sound let him know what she probably had in there and, it was almost too much for him to pass over now, a thin chuckle escaped his lips.

"Calm down, no need to apologize or explain yourself. I was just wondering if you were okay or not."

The man was quite aware of the stares that this little interaction was causing, as well as the whispers that were starting. He was pretty sure he heard someone say that he'd hit her on purpose, or that she was too much of a deadglow to understand who he was, leaving L'pin to frown as he turned his face away from the girl before him. He didn't really mind others insulting him, or insulting others, but really? Already?

"Did I ruin your lunch? It sounded like whatever you were going to eat got destroyed back there."
