This week's topic is talisman. Quote: Talisman: an object that is thought to have magic powers and to bring good luck. Dorothea Brand All that is necessary to break the spell of inertia and frustration is this: Act as if it were impossible to fail. That is the talisman, the formula, the command of right about face which turns us from failure to success. The Suites Weekly Art Challenge is a weekly creative outlet for artists of all skill levels. A topic is posted every Friday and artists have an entire week to interpret that topic in whatever way they like. The Suites Weekly Art Challenge is meant to challenge participants creatively. There is no pressure. There is no one judging the outcome. It's just a chance to practice and experiment and have fun with art.I'm going to mirror the topics provided by Illustration Friday. Feel free to participate there as well!Rules 1. Post only your own work here. Do not post work done by other artists. Photos will only be accepted if they are artistic photos taken by the person posting them. No snapshots or bathroom mirror portraits!
2. Do not steal work that is posted here.
3. Do not critique work that is posted here. If the artist wants critique, he/she can make another thread asking for it.If you do not finish your entry before the week is up, you may still enter it! As long as this thread is on the first page of the guild, feel free to post in it past the deadline. If it falls off the first page after the deadline, simply post your entry in the new challenge thread with a note of which challenge it belongs with and I'll add it to the correct thread.

This is a bronze Talisman I carved and cast in my Sculpture class a couple years ago.

Hm. *ponders* It's a good prompt. There are lots of different ways you can go about this. I just don't know how I want to do mine yet.

I'll enter. Hope this counts (photography maybe?) My personal 'talisman' is this old key. It has been in my possession for around 6 or so years, and it is very dear to me. I always wear it around my neck, no matter the dress or occasion. It has become a symbol of who I am, of my very being. I try to incorporate even the word 'key' into any usernames or ect that I have or create. Keys, to me, symbolize both halves of the world. They not only open oppourtunities, but also to close the door on things unwanted or regretted. A key symbolizes light and dark, love and hate. ...Yeah. I love them. Hmm... best design I could come up with. I had to use my cell camera even cause I don't have my own camera ^^; Sorry if it's a little out of focus.

I'm entering because I think it's a good way to keep me drawing, and good practice.
Anyhow.
I drew a Capricorn. It's my star sign, and I've always considered the symbol a talisman of good luck.

Nice work, guys! x3 Okay. I finally did some more work on my piece for "Legendary". Feel free to give me critique. Just try to do it nicely so I don't feel like giving up on art altogether. XD; I think the lighting is off somehow.

I like this one a lot better. The bottem isn't as white. The inclusion of the..staff?..was a nice touch. I wouldn't worry to much about others opinions. Alot of them have no clue wht they are talking about xP

These look really good! o: Great jobs, everyone!
Supertheory- I never would have thought of the zodiac as a talisman, but your explanation makes sense.
Keytsune - I love the construction of the photo, and the key as talisman is a great, classic image. Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself with us.
Szen - Looks better than last time. ^^ I'm glad you darkened the surrounding brush, which puts more emphasis on the figure. I like the stick, though if he's crouching I'm not sure how tall the stick would wind up when he's standing - would it be too short for him to use properly?
