• We were the colors of the rainbow.
Darrian was hot tempered but fun to be with; red.
Anna was crazy and outgoing; orange.
Selena was happy and bright; yellow.
Frieda was calm and had a calming effect on others; green.
Ian was cold and seemed to chill others, but he was quietly kind; blue.
There were no words to describe Hannah; indigo.
And I was the last to join the colors; violet.
The seven of us were practically inseperable. We loved each other, and occasionally wondered what we do if one of us died.
We were a rainbow, but you know the funny thing about rainbows? They don't last forever.
It was a dark night, and we were all in Darrian's van, driving home from a party. We were laughing, listening to the radio and enjoying ourselves. The road was almost empty, except for us. Suddenly, Darrian shushed us all. We fell silent, and he turned the radio up more.
"We bring you this emergency broadcast with great urgency! There has been reports of black ice covering the roads of the 14 highway! We strongly advise all mototrists to get OFF the highway and go to the nearest parking lot. This is our third warning, and we will give you the "go ahead" once the ice is cleared.""Just Dance" came on once more, and we all stared at each other.
"Darrian, this is the 14, isn't it?" Frieda said quietly. He nodded. "Where is the nearest exit?"
"Not for three miles," he said.
"Pull over." I pointed to the side of the road.
"Okay, hang on." He turned the wheel, and for a moment it was all going smoothly. But then, the car spun around and began to slide down the slope, straight towards the end of the road...which was a dead end.
"Darrian! Brakes!" Selena cried, and Darrian hit the brakes as hard as he could, but it didn't do any good. The car broke through the barrier, careened down the hill, and hit a large, thick tree. The windshield broke, and Darrian and I were showered with shards of broken glass.
I looked into the back, where Frieda, Hannah, Ian, Selena and Anna were. Selena was clinging to Ian, who looked equally shaken. Frieda was pressed up against Hannah, whose eyes were squeezed shut, and Anna was clutching her side.
"Are you guys okay?" I asked. They all nodded, except Anna. "Are you okay, Anna?" I asked, unbuckling my seatbelt and clambering into the backseat. Ian scooted over so that I could sit.
"No..." Anna said, moving her hand slightly. There was a huge shard of glass wedged into her side, and blood was dripping sickenly from it. I heard Selena give a frightened squeak.
"Okay, I'm going to get Anna out of the car and lay her down, then I'll find something to wrench the doors open, okay?" i said, opening the only door that wasn't completely crushed. I could barely fit through, and I had an even harder tim getting Anna out. I carried her away from the car and layed her on the ground. I took off my coat and bundled it under her head. "You're going to be okay," I said quietly. She nodded.
"Just...get the others out, okay?" I stood up and turned to go back to the car, but right as I took a step, the car burst into flames. I stumbled back and fell across Anna's legs.
"Sam! The others!" Anna cried, and I pushed myself back up. I ran to the car and opened the door as wide as I could. Ian, being a finalist in the country wide judo competition, kicked the door as hard as he could, and it opened wide enough for him to get through.
"Help Darrian!" I shouted, and stretched my hand out to Selena. The flames burned, and I could barely stand the pain. She reached out to grab my hand, but before she could, the car exploded. I was thrown back by the force, and I hit my head on a large stone. My vision faded, and finally went black.

When I opened my eyes again, I was on a gurney, with flashing lights all around. I looked to my left and saw a kind faced paramedic looking at me.
"Don't worry, we'll get it all under control," she said, smiling. but I could see that something was horribly wrong. I looked to my right, and saw four other gurneys, but whoever was on them were covered with large, white sheets.
"What's....under those?" I asked, dreading the answer. The paramedic followed my gaze and stared at the sheets.
"I don't know if you want to hear it right now, it will-"
"Tell me," I demanded. She looked at me sadly and reached into her pocket. She pulled out three small cards and showed them to me. I grabbed them, reading the names. Darrian Moore, Selena Carrier, and Hannah Herring. I closed my eyes in disbelief.
"We haven't found any I.D on the four-"
"Frieda Merrion," I whispered, handing the cards back to her. I opened my eyes again and noticed that the paramedic was wiping her eyes. "Where are Anna and Ian?" I asked her, and she pointed to the ambulance. "Can I stand?"
"I wouldn't advise it, as you have serious burns and possibly a concussion." She looked back at me, and sighed. "But you may stand and go to the ambulance."
"Thank you," I said, and got to my feet. I opened thedoors and saw Ian sitting on the side, staring at the floor. Anna was lying on a stretcher in the middle, staring at the ceiling.
"Hey guys," I said, sitting down next to Ian.
"Where are the others?" Ian said immediately, looking at me. I shook my head and leaned back against the wall. Anna began to cry, and Ian leaned back too. He closedhis eyes and let his dark hair fall over them. A large tear ran down his cheek, and I stood and went over to Anna. She looked helplessly at me, tears dripping from her blue eyes. I smoothed her hair back and sat next to her. She was a year younger than Ian and I, and she was very emotional underneath her crazy exterior.
"Sam, what are we going to do without?" she said, wiping her eyes.
"I don't know, Anna." Just then, the doors opened again and a young male paramedic came in.
"We're going to get all of you to the hospital, okay?" he said kindly, but none of us answered. I went back to the wall and sat down, closed my eyes, and let my mind go blank.

A week later, we were all a the funeral. Darrian, Frieda, Selena and Hannah's families had all decided to have one big funeral. Ian, Anna and I were asked to give a short speech each after the eulogy, and I had nothing prepared. I stared at the four coffins, not hearing a word of the eulogy. After a while, someone nudged me.
"It's time for your speech," Ian said quietly. I stood up and went to the podium. I looked at all the sad and tearstreaked faces, and took a deep breath.
"Most people knew us as "The Seven Colors." It was a fitting name; we were the colors of the rainbow. We lasted for seven years. But, "The Seven Colors" came to an abrubpt ending, a week ago. All of us hurt inside, and Frieda, Darrian, Selena and Hannah will be deeply missed. But rainbows don't last forever. They are wonderful while they last, but eventually, they fade away. True, they come after every rain, but some are more special than others. Rain won't bring our loved ones back. Peraps someday, all seven of us-Darrian, Frieda, Anna, Selena, Hannah, Ian, and I will be the rainbow you see in the sky after a heavy rain. Everytime you see a rainbow, They'll be up here, bringing color into our lives. Only it will be three new people making the rainbows with them. Until the day the last three colors can join them, they will not be the original "The Seven Colors." But they are special all the same. Whenever you feel overwhelmed by grief of their deaths remember this; Rainbows don't last forever...but they come back to us after a gloomy day."
