• (Chapter 1: The Beginning of the Terrible)
tab Closing the gray door and entering a shady room with only one light shining down upon me, I sat down on a wooden chair as I eyed the witness’s face. My partner, Matt Henderson, lingered outside of the room.
tab “Matt, you don’t want to stay in the room along with me?” I had asked him earlier.
tab “No, it’s best if I stay here because I do not wish to pressure the man, who is the only witness of this case, any further than he is now. Sorry, Xion,” He responded.
tab I had nodded my head in agreement. In the somewhat eerie room, I settled the documents concerning the crime, which were kept in a light tan folder, onto the steel table that stood in front of a man and me. The man’s facial expression was filled with fear, anxiety, and impatience. Mr. Wachigo’s, the man’s pseudonym, eyes were wandering about furiously like he was insane.
tab “Since you are the only willing witness to speak, please calm down and take your time to do so,” I tried to comfort him despite the room’s appearance and the situation that he was involved in, “Please explain to me the event as descriptive as possible. I am sorry if this would cause you mental pain, but in order for us to discover the person responsible for this, we must. Do you understand?”
tab Mr. Wachigo slowly nodded his head, “Yes. Yes, I do,” he looked down towards the table’s surface, “I decided that my two other friends and I should go on a trip – hiking, to be exact. They agreed and so, we began to hike.”
tab I quickly wrote down what he had told to me on a notepad that I brought along. “Please continue,” I said.
tab “We were walking along a rugged path near the Grand Canyon and were planning to have a safe and enjoyable trip. My friend, Ryan Gustavo, went into the cave first. I stayed with my other friend, Peter Gojuko, waiting for him to catch up with Ryan and me as was he was far behind.
tab Suddenly, as I was sitting down on a rock, embracing the scene that was before me, I heard a scream that originated from where Ryan headed towards earlier. While extremely nervous, I ran inside the cave only to find a black Labrador Retriever gnawing at my friend’s neck…,” Mr. Wachigo, filled with terror, tried to swallow his emotion before he continued, “His blood was all over the dog’s muzzle, dripping down onto the floor. I watched in horror as the creature continued to devour him…
tab What was extremely terrifying was that I could see the animal’s ribs cage and spine very clearly. A little tentacle-like creature, colored with the colors tan, green, and red, was swinging side to side out of its spine,” Mr. Wachigo swallowed once more, “The creature looked at me with its… its glowing blood red eyes, trying to paralyze me. It didn’t work, fortunately. My senses returned to me, and I grabbed my gun which I kept with me inside my back pocket. Immediately, I aimed at the vicious creature and shot, killing it.”
tab Mr. Wachigo sat on his seat for quite some time. Suddenly, he stood up, slammed his hands on the table’s surface, and yelled while tearing, “If only… if only I hadn’t suggested the trip! Ryan would’ve still been alive!”
tab “Relax. Matt and I will investigate this crime,” I said as I looked at his face, held out my hands, and placed them onto his, which was a signal for him to relax.
tab Then, to my surprise, Mr. Wachigo grabbed my shirt. His eyes, filled with revenge and anger, glared at mine. In a low voice he said, “You better.”
tab The police officer, who stood nearby, quickly slammed Mr. Wachigo against the table, and held him. Mr. Wachigo’s hands were behind him, being held by one of the officer’s hands, and the officer’s free hand was held against Mr. Wachigo’s neck. “Stay calm,” said he.
tab “My partner and I will investigate,” I assured him.
