• tab Cillia woke up on a hospital bed. The sheets were white—everything in the room was white. There was a window on her right. It showed a dirt road and old buildings. Little kids played with a red, worn out kick ball. She was in Trell, a village near the dry lands of a desert.
tab Cillia strained just to turn an inch of her head to the side. Her arms, back and legs were bandaged. Thin tubes ran inside her body; it gave her the blood that she lost three days ago when the monsters attacked.
tab “Please relax” a nurse says as she enters the room with a clipboard and a tray for breakfast. On it was a bowl that revealed something unnatural; it looked like veggie soup but was mushy like mud. “You’ve been unconscious for three days” she says with a grin as she sets the tray on a table beside the bed.
tab “How…why…?” Cillia moans. Speaking wasn’t an easy feat for her. Luckily, the nurse knew everything needed to know.
tab “You were brought here by some people that survived the monster attack because this was the closest hospital. They wanted to save your life since you risked yours to save theirs” she scooped up the strange green soup with a spoon and fed it to Cillia. Cillia protested but then gave in.
tab “What ha-appened? Where—” before she could finish, the nurse shoves another spoonful into Cillia’s mouth.
tab “I don’t know what happened. They say that a man with black hair and blue eyes came and saved them. He killed the monsters with such ease that it seems even he was inhuman. That man is everything everyone talks about now. He’s getting famous and yet nobody has seen him since that day. A very mysterious man—they call him Guardian”
tab Cillia coughed when she swallowed another bite of the soup. Guardian? It’s like they worship that man to be an angel sent from the heavens. She lowered her eyes, remembering the monstrous killing that nearly slaughtered her. But that name is fitting for a man that saved the lives of those people. I don’t even deserve anything like that—I don’t even deserve to be called a knight because I failed to do what he did.
tab “You’re really lucky” the nurse says as she puts the spoon back in the bowl and picks up the tray. “To survive that day” before she left the room, she says “You won’t be able to leave for awhile, it might take about a month or more to recover from the damages you received” then she closed the door behind her.
tab It’ll take about a month to recover? Cillia couldn’t believe such words. She was a knight from the kingdom of Helner, and her job is to protect the people without fail. I already failed though. She closes her eyes. But just because I failed doesn’t mean I can’t try again. A warm breeze came from the window, swaying her long brunette hair. Without a seconds thought, she already decided to leave in two days. The consequences of leaving too early doesn’t even faze her, all she wants is to get to the castle so she can serve the king once more.
