Maze knows this! He has been observing humans, and he thinks he has it figured out.

People go to the hospital because that is where the healers are. Obviously, there is something wrong with this human's eyes. Why else would she keep them covered like that?

He must admit to being impressed by her ability to navigate while blinded, though..

Maze fell out of a tree. Not his fault mind you. Some foolish mortal freaked out at the sounds of him rustling around up there and shot into the leaves. It weakened and broke a branch but I'm sure he's rather deal with that than buck shot. The mortal also dragged him to the hospital. Otherwise he would have escaped into the brush and sought out a healer of his ilk.

Her leg "just fell off" as she told the doctor.

He is skeptical, but puts up with it because it's thousands of dollars for him to make her a prosthetic.
