Lily gasped when she saw Kael go off on her father like that, shocked by the sudden anger that seemed to fuel him in what he did. She had seen him stand up for her before, but not to her own parents. Part of her hoped her father was okay, but the other part of her was smiling to see that her best friend did still mean to be there for her. How had she ever gotten so lucky to find him? Or was it that he found her? Whatever the cause was, she took the chance Kael was giving her and slipped away.

As for her father, he merely watched as Lily went by, eyes burning with fury of a thousand suns. He knew Kael was bigger than him and could take him down, that was one of the reasons he didn't try to fight back. There was also the fact that he knew there was a licensed police officer close at hand and would take him down. It had happened once before...that was a dark day...

Her bags were on the bed and she was tossing everything into them. She didn't have much left that she was worried about taking with her, just needing more clothes. There were posters on the walls and such, but those could be replaced. Her heart was pounding so loudly in her ears that when Kael walked up behind her, she jumped, not realizing he was there.

"O-okay..." Her words came out a bit stammered as she tried to calm herself. Hands brushed through her blonde hair, missing the usual colored streak she would add at times. It was all so overwhelming, but she had to keep her head held high. Reaching up for a moment, her hand brushed along Kael's cheek as if in an attempt to calm both of them down and she leaned up and kissed his lips gently. "Thank you." With that she had several bags tossed over her shoulders. A few remained as she headed on down the hall.

Max was at the door still, leaving Julie to help them get the stuff in the back. He didn't want to chance anything else happening.

"You'll regret this Lily. I swear it," her father called out behind her. Her mother just standing there, looking useless in the situation.

                                              ►►Kael watched with determined eyes as Lily packed the necessities. He knew she was trying to take everything should could to limit her chances of having to come back, but he overestimated the number of bags she was packing. As soon as everything was zipped up, he took a step forward, still silent with anger at her parents, but was stopped by the gentle feeling of her hand brushing against his cheek. His hardened face softened by the touch and he gently returned the kiss she had given him "Of course." his answer was simple and direct. After Lily left the room, Kael took the remainder of the bags that she couldn't fit on her shoulder and left behind her.

                                              The threat from her father shook Kael to the bone. He had remained silent as they walked passed him and his wife, toward the car to load up. As soon as Lily had gotten into the backseat, Kael was right behind her, but the threat didn't go unheard. Kael whirled around and glared at her father, "Good luck with that!" he yelled back before turning and climbing in. As soon as Kael had shut the door, Max was driving off toward home.

                                              Kael remained silent for a while, his fingers laced together before him with his gaze looking out the window at the scenery as it was zooming by. He wasn't going to deny that he was extremely pissed off by the way that Lily's parents had acted. Never in his life with Lily had he seen her father speak to her in the way he had, nor her mother just stand there and let it happen. Kael had to fight the urge to put his fist through the window, as this wasn't his car and Max would surely lock him up for the night, just so that the man would calm down.

Once they were safely back in the car, Lily settled herself in her seat, leaving some space for Kael. It looked like he needed a moment so she let her gaze focus on the world outside of them. The passing trees and buildings all blurred together and she felt that the worst had been lifted off of her, but things still seemed a bit shaky within her. She just hoped this was all from the after effects.

No one was speaking as they returned to Lily's new home with her aunt and uncle, the silence was deafening. She couldn't handle that and she looked over to Kael. An hour had passed and she finally dared to reach out and placed just the tips of her fingers against the top of his arm. She didn't want to startle him too bad and cause him to react in a negative manner.

                                              ►►Despite the turmoil that often associated with silence, it was the silence that was allowing Kael to scream at himself to calm down. His breathing was shallow and rampant at first, but as he sat perfectly still with his gaze fixed on the outside world, it slowed with his heart rate. The silence seemed to drag on; he was surprised neither Max nor Julie had broken it with their normal small chit-chat about their days or something they saw on the news. It didn't bother Kael in the least; he had gotten to be very comfortable in long moments of silence, though as the minutes turned into hours, it seemed to start to bother Lily.

                                              Kael glanced over the instant he felt Lily's fingertips on his arm and saw a worried expression all over her face. He fully relaxed at that point and dropped his tense shoulders into a more neutral place before unlacing his hands and reaching over to take her hand into his. Kael interlaced his fingers with hers and gave her a reassuring squeeze, though never spoke a word. He knew she was worried about her parents and what had happened just an hour ago, but there was nothing left to do but keep going forward. The rest would work itself out in the end.

                                              An hour later the car was pulling into Julie's driveway. Kael waited until Max put the car into park and turned off the engine before unbuckling his seatbelt and releasing Lily's hand. Within minutes, he had extracted himself from the car and met Max at the trunk to gather Lily's things upon their shoulders. Kael exchanged a look with Max, but said nothing; they never shared anything but the simplest of words. Kael closed the trunk and followed Lily and her family into their house. It was late by now, the moon high in the sky and Kael's phone was going off with a text from his step-father. He ignored it from the time-being, waiting until he'd have some privacy to answer whatever it was that the old man wanted.

                                              Kael entered the family room and stood there waiting, keeping Lily's bags over his shoulder and in his hands, "Want these in your room?" he asked. After receiving his answer, Kael placed the bags where Lily directed him to before returning to the family room. Max and Julie were there; they hadn't gone to bed yet. Kael turned to Lily after she reappeared, "It's late," he stated simply, "Do you want me to go?" Kael didn't care if she sent him away or not; he'd prefer to stay as he never really longed to go home, but would be fine if she felt like she'd be better off alone. He couldn't blame her if that's what she wanted after the ordeal she just went through.

"Over there in the corner is fine," Lily told Kael quietly, not really in the mood to bother with unpacking or anything right now. It was stuff that could wait until the next day. Right now all she wanted to do was relax and put everything behind her if that was even possible. Things were going to be different from here on out, whether for better or worse...she wasn't sure yet. She hoped it would be better since she had escaped the constant pressure that was placed upon her at home and was now reunited with someone she knew for a fact she could never be away from again.

Finding him downstairs, Lily immediately gave a shake of her head as he suggested the idea of leaving. More than anything she just wanted him there with her. It was similar to times whenever she was suffering nightmares or just simply afraid to go to sleep at night. A lot of people would have found that ridiculous, but not him. He just took it in stride when it came to her and she appreciated him for that. "Can you stay?"

                                              ►►A small smile broke at the corners of Kael's lips when he saw Lily's reaction of his suggestion to leave. It was obvious she wanted him to say, and she confirmed it with her following question. Kael nodded, but quickly added, "So long as it's alright with Julie and Max?" Kael glanced over at the couple who were standing some few feet away. He was glad with their answer and gave them a soft smile of thanks before looking back at Lily, "Come on, it's time for bed. Your aunt and uncle are right." Kael agreed after Julie and Max excused themselves for bed, each kissing Lily on the cheek. Max offered Kael his hand, to which the young man accepted and shook with a firm but grateful gesture, before watching them go up the stairs and disappear behind the closing door of their room.

                                              Kael left Lily's bags where she told him to leave them, but went through a couple of them before finding her clean pair of Nightmare Before Christmas pajamas. He tossed them to her for her to change into, seeing as though she wore the other ones to the park and slept in them there, but didn't rise to his feet. Instead, he kept rummaging and finally pulled out his old hoodie he had left with her before she moved away, "You kept this old thing, huh?" The jacket was a black Volcom; he had gotten it at the local thrift store for two dollars. Kael held it up and inspected it before deeming it worthy and waited until Lily excused herself to go change. When he had the privacy, Kael stripped off his shirts and left them on the pile of Lily's clothes before putting on the jacket and zipping it up. Some times. nothing got better than sleeping in just a jacket.

                                              After Kael was comfortable and Lily had returned, he kicked off his shoes and took up the familiar place on her bed, his back leaning against the headboard, his side open for her to curl up into. He reached over and on the nightstand beside him was the remote. With swift fingers, Kael found Nightmare Before Chirstmas on Directv and put it on before giving Lily the remote so she could control the volume, "I promised you that we would watch this when it was all over." he smiled and kissed Lily's forehead as she laid beside him.

The rest of the weekend had went pretty uneventful for Lily and she was thankful for that. It was nice to have a break from all of the craziness that had been revolving around her in the long run. What time she got to spend with Kael was nice and she was thankful for it. He helped her get through the anxiety that had gripped her. If only she knew what was going on with him or had an inkling of what he was suffering at home, she would have been there to help him.

Monday came and she was up early, at the school even before it opened to make sure she could get herself re-enrolled. Her aunt knew the secretary and they agreed that she could come early so she could go ahead and get back into the routine of classes. Lily was thankful for this since she didn't want to sit around at home, letting time pass and her mind go to different parts.

She was in the office for over an hour before they got everything switched over. In her hand was her new schedule for the remainder of her last school year and she felt a stab of sadness. She couldn't believe that she had missed out on so much time here with her friends and her best friend of all. Well she was determined to make the best of things and enjoy it before she figured out which college she would go to now since plans had changed.

Venturing out into the hallway, people had began filing in and some recognized her. It took her a good ten minutes to say hi to everyone before she finally reached her locker and began to switch everything out, putting what she didn't need in there. Of course she would have to decorate the barren walls inside, always about having decorations and stuff that symbolized her. That was one of her projects for when she got home, her aunt and uncle telling her that she could decorate things as she wanted. That made her smile.

Now she just had to find Kael. She wasn't aware of his schedule and hoped they might have a class or two together. She was having a hard time of finding him, having texted him to see if he would get it.

As she rounded the corner, she entered the cafeteria and wondered if he might be in there. It was then she spotted Luke and walked over to him. "Hey. Have you see Kael anywhere?"

                                              ►►Luke glanced up as he heard Lily's voice speak. He was shocked at first, as he had only heard the news and not seen it for sure. Now that he had, he wasn't sure he was as happy with her return as most of their classmates were, "Ah, no. I think he's still in Physics. You remember where that was, right?" he asked with a teasing tone before giving her a reminder of where the science labs were located. Luke watched as Lily started to walk away before getting an idea, "Hey! Why don't you leave your stuff with me? Kael normally eats with me anyway, so you guys'll be back. It won't slow you down either." he cocked a brow as if he were pitching a deal and was glad to know it worked. Luke gave Lily a reassuring smile as she walked off. He had been frustrated, completely livid actually, ever since she returned. She took his best friend away from him. Every time Luke sent a text to Kael to see if he wanted to hang out, he always replied 'Sorry bro, I'm with Lily.' It pissed Luke off to no end that he had been thrown to the side for this, this b***h! At least she played right into his hand.

                                              As soon as Lily was out of sight and he was sure she wasn't around, Luke reached over into the front pocket of her backpack and withdrew her phone. He was glad that habit hadn't changed. He slid the phone to unlock but found it password protected. Luke's heart-rate quickened. He didn't think that she'd have it locked. Quickly he began to think about any and all four-number combinations that she could use that would pertain to Kael, as he seemed to be her lifeline to everything. The date of their first meeting came to mind and with a swift thumb, he punched in the four numbers, and was relieved it worked. There, on the screen, was the messages for Kael. He skimmed over a few of them, his anger boiling, but quickly looked up to see Kael's beanie over the tops of his classmate's heads. Luke locked the screen and replaced the phone before they returned to the table, "Hey guys. Hungry?" he asked cheerfully, elated he now had everything he needed to be able to get his revenge.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              Kael was sitting in the Physics lab, cleaning up his station when he heard the door open. With a glance over his shoulder, he caught sight of Lily and smiled. It was good that she was reacquainting herself with the campus layout, "Hey, I got your text. Almost done and then we'll get some lunch." He was in a good mood today, and he had no idea why other than perhaps he had his best buddy back and no longer had to sit there, hoping to God he'd get a text from her just to see how she was. Now, he was able to ask her in person, and get a response in a quicker time.
                                              As soon as everything was put away and his things were packed up neatly in his Jansport backpack, Kael swung the bag onto his shoulder before wrapping an arm around Lily's. He leaned over and gave her a kiss before ushering her from the Physics room and back to the cafeteria, the whole time asking her about her earlier classes. He wanted to know if he'd have her in any of his remaining classes, but she had left her schedule with Luke. It didn't take them long to see Luke sitting at his usual table, eating his tuna fish sandwich, "Starving, did you get me one?" Kael responded. He smiled as Luke tossed him a sandwich, sitting across from the man with Lily beside him.
Lily didn't think anything of leaving her stuff with Luke, thinking things were okay between the two of them. They had got along in the past, but since she was away it seemed he was one of the ones Kael hung out with. It honestly made her feel better to know that Kael had someone there for him when she was gone. if she knew what Luke was up to, well things wouldn't have went so smoothly.
She returned with Kael, snuggled into his side and she was smiling as much as he was. She was happy to be back. As they returned to the table where she had left Luke, she grabbed her bag and fished her schedule out. "I have English and then Music after lunch. Do you have either of those?" She asked Kael.
She wasn't big on tuna, well the school's version of it, so she had grabbed herself an apple and a water to pass the hunger until she got home for dinner.
While she was sitting there with them, several people walked by and greeted her, talking about how they were glad to have her back. Even one girl walked up and Lily jumped up and hugged her tight. Kael was her best friend, but she had her best girl friend as well. They talked a moment before she settled in beside of Kael once more.
                                              ►►Kael and Luke sat in silence, both munching on their tuna sandwiches happily while Lily went about saying her 'hellos' to the various people who approached the table. Luke glanced over at Kael, who returned the same look before both broke out into a chuckle, "I don't think this table has gotten so much attention in the last year and a half." Kael said quietly to Luke who agreed.
                                              The boys finally stopped their joking around when they realized that Lily was done with her reunion with a particularly close friend and had sat back down beside Kael. He glanced over and took a look at her schedule, "Yeah, we've got English together. You know I'm not as musically inclined as you. I'm just good at vocals when I try." Luke laughed at this; he always gave Kael a hard time about his singing. It was quite the contrary though; when Kael wanted to and really put effort into it, he was a great vocalist. The highschool's music program was more inclined toward instruments and less on the pipes a person had in their throats. "Yea, you're great at screaming, that's for sure."
                                              Kael shot Luke a glare at this, but neither could hold it. Both began to chuckle once more, both stuffing their faces full of what was left of their sandwiches. Kael reached over and stole Luke's unopened Gatorade, to which Luke tried to retrieve but was too slow, "Hey! Jerk..." he grumbled as Kael guzzled half of the bottle before returning, "That's for your smartass comment." Kael chuckled. The cafeteria was starting to clear out, which made Kael look at his watch. It was nearly time for class, "Are you ready Lil?" he asked, his backpack already on his shoulder and a hand on hers. Too hell if he was going to have his girl carry her own bag while he was there to do it for her. Luke gathered up his things, "Yeah, I'm ready. Oh wait! You weren't talking to me." His comment was half-way joking but closer to the serious side as he playfully smacked Kael upside the head before heading off for his own class. Luke was pissed, but he wasn't about to let anyone see it, "See ya guys." he called back, then turned the corner and was gone.
"I'm ready!" Lily was actually happy to be back in school, which of course was a weird thing since most hated to be there. It gave her a chance to reunite and move forward while she put everything that had happened behind her. She was about to get her bag when Kael beat her to it and she laughed some. "I can carry that you know." There was no point in her arguing that with him though because she knew it would just be a playful back and forth with him winning. This had happened before and she had actually had him hold the bag over his head and her jump for it and that was when he was shorter. Now, she would have to climb in a chair and then jump.
She waved to Luke, trying to be nice since it was her nature after all. Her arm linked around Kael's waist as she walked with him to the next class and knew that she would try and get a seat with him. Once they were in the room they were lucky and she moved, grabbing one seat and made sure to toss her notebook on the one next to her so he could claim it for himself.
"So Julie is taking me shopping for some stuff for my room this evening if you want to come with us," Lily offered since the teacher had yet to show up. Some things never changed.
                                              ►►A laugh came from Kael's throat when Lily insisted she was capable of carrying her book bag. He had no doubt she could; she had been the majority of the day, "I'm sure you can, except I won't have my girl carrying her stuff while I'm around." Kael wrapped his arm around her shoulders as he felt hers around his waist and pulled her in close. He bent his head and kissed her temple as they walked to class, glad to have her back.
                                              Lily seemed to have remembered the drill after being gone so long. As he opened the door for Lily, she peeled herself from his side and claimed two chairs side-by-side. He remained at the door to hold it for a couple of other students who were right behind him, then headed in to take the chair next to her. Her conversation was casual, despite her tactical move to achieve her want to sit beside him. Kael placed her backpack next to her before removing his from his shoulder and seating himself. He opened his Jansport and pulled out his notebook, handing Lily hers, and placed his pen on top of the book that sat upon his desk, "Sure, so long as your aunt doesn't mind me coming along." Kael glanced to the side at Lily, seeing the expression she wore on her face.
                                              He had never been one for decorating or holding an artistic eye when it came to stuff like that. Normally, he was the one who did the painting after Lily told him her "vision.", which mainly consisted of her pointing to each wall and telling him what color it was supposed to have painted onto it. If she asked for a designed, he would hand her the brush; he lacked all talent in that department and wasn't afraid to admit it. Kael only hoped she wasn't looking for his opinion in this shopping adventure; he wouldn't have one to give and wouldn't know where to start.
"Of course she doesn't care if you come. I'm thinking of doing some black walls with red splattered on them. Julia said she didn't care." It was honestly like she should have been her mother instead as close as they were and had become especially in the past few days after they "rescued" her. "I want to find some more posters, so of course she will be somewhere else in the mall completely." This had her laughing. Even though Julie would let her niece do as she wished, it didn't mean she had to step inside of those freaky stores as she called them.
The bell rang and she drew her pen out, flipping to a blank page. She took some notes here and there, but for the most part was mostly doodling. It was one of her many past times when it came to being stuck in class. Once it was over, she got up and went to hug Kael and even offered him a kiss, well once he knelt down so she could reach him. "I'll see you after school." With a wave, she headed off for music and the last of her school day. It was a good way of ending it if she had to pick.
                                              ►►Kael chuckled at her ideas for her room, but agreed in earnest, "I'll help you paint once you've got everything you want." There wasn't a chance to add anything else after he said that, for the teacher had walked in, "Alright class, settle down. Yes...yes.. Marc! Sit down this instant!" A student turned his head to look over his shoulder before snickering and taking his seat. Kael opened his notebook to a blank page and began to take his notes, half paying attention to the lecture on Hamlet, but most of his attention was on the recent events that had taken place. He hadn't been home at all this last weekend since he had stayed with Lily at her aunt's house. He went home this morning to get his backpack but both parents had left for work, so he was lucky to avoid any conflict. Kael realized at that moment that he hadn't cut at all in the last four or so days. He could feel the itch of a healing wound as it rubbed against the sleeves of his shirt, but they were so small he barely noticed.
                                              The bell signaled to Kael that it was time to stop dwelling on his thoughts and to get to his last class, AP Statistics. He quickly threw his notebook and pen into the bag, feeling suddenly that he was going to be late, but slowed himself as he heard Lily's voice, "Meet me at the green electrical box out front of the school office." he bent over and kissed Lily before straightening up, tossing his backpack over his shoulder and leaving the class room.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              The day had been long for Luke but he had been able to think out his plan, and now was the time to put it into action. He sat upon the green electrical box, his legs dangling over the side and his hands laying idly on his lap. He kept his eyes out for Lily; he knew that she was going to meet Kael here since this was routine for Kael before he would leave for the coffee shop or for home. His dark green eyes scanned the masses of students as they poured out of the school, looking for the girl who stole his best friend. Finally he saw her heading his way, just like he thought, "Hey Lily!!!" he called out, waiving an arm over his head to get her attention. When she approached him and was in earshot, "Hey lady! How was your first day? Listen, I forgot my phone today and I wanted to let my mom know that I am goin' to the coffee shop after class for a while. Mind if I borrow yours?"

It had been a great day overall and she was just headed for the meeting spot. One of her earbuds were in as she listened to King Diamond, one of the louder songs, barely hearing Luke. She looked up and saw him, laughing as she tugged the other earbud out. "Sorry about that. I get too wrapped up in my music. It was busy, but good." She offered. "Umm sure. Hold on, let me find it." Bringing her bag up, she propped it on her knee and fished it out of one of the many side pockets. "Here you go. I'm going to run my stuff to the car and then come back, so if you see Kael let him know."

With that, her phone was in his hand and she made her way for her car which was nearby. The bag was deposited into the back, nothing out of the ordinary or so she thought. Her music was once again playing and this time she was singing along to the words under her breath, minus the screaming since she had never tried to do that part.

Soon she was walking back to where Luke was with her phone, hoping to find Kael soon.
