Lily stretched some, lifting her arms over her head as he removed his beanie. The sight of his now longer hair made her smile and she gave a tilt of her head as she watched him. "Longer hair suits you/" Her words were true as she looked around the room, trying to think of something for them to do. If she were indeed going with her aunt and uncle, it would be later she figured with him working. His shifts tended to run into the later parts of the evenings so they had a little while since it was early yet. What to do?

it was then she got the idea and she got off of the bed and shifted through one of the bags that had her clothes and pulled some out. "I'll be back!" She left the room and went to the bathroom next door to change. This time she went for a pair of jeans and one of her band t-shirts sporting the band name Opeth. Her parents hated her choice in music, but she loved it no matter what they said or did.

Returning, she had also brushed her hair up into a ponytail and went to grab his hands in her own. "I know what we can do." Lily walked with him back outside, her hand still in his, but this time she went out the back door. Her aunt owned quite a bit of property and it went down into a wooded area where she often spent a lot of time. It was there that a small pond was located that they used to swim in. It was one of their many spots and she actually pulled his arms around her as they arrived and stood on the shore.

"Do you remember when you tried to teach me to swim the first time?" Lily asked as she leaned her head back against his chest and turned to look up at him, which made him look upside down from her point of view.

►►The compliment of his long hair made Kael smile. He had heard the exact opposite from Luke just a few weeks prior, "You'll have to take that up with Luke. He doesn't agree with you," Kael's bright blue eyes glanced at Lily before moving to somewhere else in the room. He was caught off guard by she suddenness when she rose from her position on the bed and went to her bag which held all of her clothes. A word wasn't shared as she grabbed various articles before disappearing to the bathroom, then reappearing moments later. A different kind of smile took hold of his lips at the sight of her in her jeans and Opeth t-shirt, 'There's my little rocker...' he thought to himself and took her hands as she directed him from the room, saying she knew what to do.

The walk out to the pond wasn't long, but it was beautiful. Julie's property was certainly larger than most surrounding it, and that was something he loved about it. It was different from all the others and had no resemblance to those that came up in the later years. Kael stopped walking just as she did and gladly wrapped his arms about her as she guided them. He kept his gaze on the scenery before them, not looking down until he felt Lily move her head to see him, "Yeah. I remember. Why do you ask?" he returned the question with another and vividly remembered that day he taught her to swim in this same pond. It wasn't too much longer after he had gotten her the wolf when she showed him this pond. The day was warm and he instantly stripped to his boxers before jumping in, but found Lily perched on the shore. She had confessed she didn't know how to swim, and so for the rest of the day he had supported her through the water until she could get the hang of it. She was a beginner for sure, and often he'd meet her there to keep practicing, but he never cared that she wasn't great. It had been just another thing he was able to help her with, and that was enough for him.

"Just wondering if you remembered was all." Lily admitted. She felt the same blush from back then return to consume her cheeks as she remembered how he just up and stripped down to his boxers. It was the first time she had ever seen him like that and for a moment or two after he did, she honestly hid behind her hands. It was just one of the few times that he was able to make her blush.

"I wish it was warmer or we could go swimming now." A soft sigh escaped her lips and she remained where she was, not wanting to move from his arms. She watched as a few birds landed on the other side of the pond. The beauty of this place along with the nature that came with it made her happy and feeling relaxed whenever she visited it in the past. "Kael, what are your plans for after graduation?" Now that she had changed her path, she wondered what she was going to do now. They had come up with several plans in the past of what they could do together and she was more than willing to follow through with any of them, even the silly ones they had come up with.

►►An indifferent sort of sound came from Kael in reference to her mentioning of her "first time swimming" memory. He kept himself quiet and didn't say much of anything as she expressed her disappointment that it wasn't warmer, otherwise they'd be able to go enjoy the water. He personally had no idea how to explain the new white lines that riddled his upper limbs and torso. Kael was able to get away with it by wearing a hoodie at school and no one thought twice, or occasionally would push his luck with a plaid button-up. So far, no one seemed to notice. The last thing he wanted was to try and bullshit his way out of this with Lily.

A different topic seemed to have emerged with Lily and he tightened his arms around her in response. He took his time to answer though, having to really think about what he was going to do after he graduated high school. College seemed out of the question with John being around, but he might be able to have his mom persuade the issue. Kael knew he would need a more consistent part time job than the one he had, which consisted of doing yard work for a few of the elderly folk that lived on his block. Finally, after probably a good two minutes silence, Kael spoke up, but kept his eyes on the pond before them, "I don't know for sure, to be honest. I know I need a better job with consistent hours. All I'm doing now is some yard work for the Jones and the Nelsons over by where I live. They pay well, but only want me to work every other week. It's not enough." he paused, then continued, "The local JC is going to be my best bet for college. Mom doesn't want me to go away so soon after Dad having just passed away. I know she has John, but I'm her only kid, ya know? I guess it's different to her." he shrugged off this last part and dismissed the thought. After another few seconds, Kael finally looked down at the woman he had tight in his embrace, "What about you Miss Rock Star?" he teased, "What are you going to do?"

Since the night before, it had been a long time since she last saw Kael and she wasn't aware of whether or not he was wearing long sleeves all the time or not. In the past she never noticed him wearing them like he was now, but she didn't think anything on it. If she had been around and just noticed the change well that would have been different and she would have been questioning him. Lily was usually in tune with him and it seemed he hadn't gave her anything to worry about yet.

Her hands trailed lightly over his arms as they remained around her and she looked to the pond like he was. So many questions and decisions raced and she wasn't even sure where to begin. His nickname for her brought her a smile and she turned in his arms, now sliding her own around his waist. "I don't know yet. Now that I'm back...I don't want to leave again, especially anytime soon."

►►Kael looked down at Lily as she turned in his embrace and loosened his hold to make it easier for her to do so. When we felt her arms slip around his waist, he tightened his hold again and smiled at her comment, "That's a good answer. We have time to figure it out; don't stress too much over it." he said simply and fell quiet once more. Something about times like this made him just want to shut up and enjoy them. Often, they didn't require much conversation, though it was never frowned upon between them. Kael kept his gaze on Lily as the sun rose up into the sky. It must have been late morning by now, Kael glanced up momentarily and looked toward the house, then back at Lily, "You hungry?" he asked, a kind smile inching across his lips. He slowly peeled back from Lily and dropped a hand down by his waist, while the other inched along hers till he found her fingers. Once his were entwined in hers, he pulled it back around and took a step back before starting back toward the house, "Let's go see my mom. I know she's dying to see you again, and we have time to kill till your uncle is back from work." he suggested as they approached the house.

Just before entering, Kael stopped and took out his phone and sent a quick text to his mother, letting her know that they were coming over. He got a near instant reply of a smiley face, which put one on his lips. He pocketed the phone with a sure swiftness and opened the door for Lily, "Sorry about that; I wanted to give her a heads-up." he explained, then closed the door after he crossed the threshold.

Lily didn't seem to get much of a chance to answer on whether or not she was hungry, but it was obvious she was. Or at least she should have been. They had been awake for a while now and food hadn't even crossed her mind until his words brought it up. "I could go for a bite to eat." She admitted, wondering where they would be going. When he mentioned going to see his mother, well her smile spread and she looked to see that she was decent. It had been too long since she saw his mother and she didn't want to be a mess.

"You know I don't mind going to see her. I have missed her after all, but figured she might have forgot me while I was away." Even as she said it there was that teasing hint in her tone since she knew how much she and his mother cared for one another as well.

►►Kael shot Lily a side-ways glance just to make sure she was kidding about his mother forgetting about her. Often his mother was asking about her, wanting to know how she was, if the new school was nice to her, or if he was going to go see her again. He was glad that her smile suggested the same humor that her tone hinted at and chuckled, "You know that's impossible for her." he replied and opened the front door of the house as well for Lily before stepping out himself.

The day was nice and warm, easy on the cold breezes that seemed to plague the early mornings. He took in a deep breath before letting it out and kept his fingers laced with Lily's, "Let's walk. It's not that far from here." Kael had nothing against Lily driving; he simply didn't want to waste the gas on such a wonderful day. He started down the front yard before turning left, then toward his house. He lived four blocks from Lily's aunt, which seemed far away on a map, but in reality, it was a leisurely stroll. He kept his pace slow for Lily so that she wasn't running to keep up with his long stride. Luke often got onto his case, always saying not everyone should have to run just to keep up with him. Kael would always quicken his pace, just to make Luke run. They were good friends, but he was glad that he wasn't as close to Luke as he was with Lily. Kael always thought of Luke as that annoying little brother, but if he ever got into a tight squeeze, then he knew Luke would have his back.

By the time they arrived, Kael's mother was standing on the porch with a huge smile on her face. She waited until they arrived just before the front yard before starting toward them, ignoring Kael and going straight for Lily, "Oh my god, darling!" she exclaimed, taking the girl into a huge motherly embrace, "Oh sweetie! You've grown into such a gorgeous young woman! Doesn't she look beautiful Kael?" she beamed toward her son before turning back up the yard, this time taking Lily's hand from Kael and escorting her into the house, "Yes Mom, she's breath-taking." Kael agreed quietly, so only Lily could hear, and smiled. He nodded toward Lily for her to go on ahead and took a quick glance at the driveway. He was glad to see John's car wasn't parked there. That meant this reunion was going to be a good one. After confirming all was well, Kael started in toward the house after the two women he loved the most.

"I know. I'm just too adorable and fun to have someone forget me." Lily teased. There was a point for a week when she was so down and out about herself, but she got over it when Kael reminded her that she was the opposite of being that way. He was always there to knock her back into line whenever she would chance to stray away.

As they approached the familiar house, she felt like it was old times when they were walking back from either her house or Julie's. When his father was still alive she spent more time there than her own house which often upset her parents, but she could care less.

Seeing his mother, she hugged her back, finding that she seemed to wear the same fragrance she did back then. This made her smile even more until she heard his mother and him talking about her. A blush formed and she peeked at him through his mother's embrace. There was a look that she would get him back for making her blush. "It's great to see you. I'm sorry I haven't been in touch like I used to.' Even after her move she would text or call her as well and over time it faded as well.

►►Karen, Kael's mother, smiled and shook her head, "Don't worry about it darling! I'm sure it's hard work being as talented as you are," she reassured and offered the girl a big smile. Karen always thought of Lily as a second child to her. She loved her just as much as she loved her son, and often found herself wondering if they were going to stick like glue forever. Karen never allowed the thought of them drifting apart to enter her mind. Whenever Kael was depressed because he hadn't received a word from Lily, no matter how often he called or sent a text, she always reassured him that she was simply chasing her dreams and all he needed to do was make sure he was there when she was ready to come home. Kael had taken that to the heart and always kept his phone on him, always waiting for LILY to pop up on the small illuminated screen that signaled she was ready.

The house hadn't changed much since Lily's last visit. The couch had been replaced at John's insistence, saying that it would be better for Karen's back if she didn't have one so old. Kael had kept the smaller version and put it in his room. He claimed that it was originally his, given to him by his father, and he was going to find room for it to fit. Kael made sure it had by getting rid of two bookshelves and shrinking his floor space by half, but it fit and he couldn't have been happier. That small couch was where he had spent a majority of time sitting with either of his parents or Lily, watching whatever movie she wanted to watch or whatever show his father had on. It held many fond memories for him, but John had never been able to see that.

Karen beamed around the small living room, "Not much is different, but it's still a home for you whenever you want it dear." she gave Lily another warm smile before returning to the kitchen and began to rustle about, "Who wants waffles?" she called out. Kael laughed quietly to himself and answered that he would before taking Lily's hand and beginning up the stairs, "Come on. I don't think she'll stop fussin' over you for the next seven months." he teased. Kael reached his room and opened the door before releasing Lily's hand. He went to the dresser and pulled out a black and grey plaid button-up, as well as a black guinea tee before excusing himself to go change.

Lily couldn't help herself as she stepped through the door to the home where she had spent so much time to look around and see that not much had changed. They said as time passed change would follow, but she was very happy to see that not everything did. It took the sting away of her having been away from him for so long away and replaced it with the sense that she still belonged and always would.

Her thoughts came to an end when she heard someone speaking up and she saw it was Karen. A smile formed as she remembered her cooking and gave a nod of her head. "Waffles sound great." She had learned at a young age not to refuse food from this woman as she would guilt anyone to eating whether they had ate already or not. Besides, she was a wonderful cook.

Following him up to his room, she walked over and took a seat on the familiar couch and ran a hand over the arm of it. "I had a feeling this was up here," she teased him playfully. A smile was offered to him as she relaxed. "It's still as comfy as it was back then." There were a many a time where the two of them would be on the couch watching movies and they would fall asleep especially if the movies were running late in the night.

►►Kael didn't take long to change his shirt, feeling dirty in the other one from spending the night outside. He returned with his face still damp from when he had ran a wet washcloth over to get rid of any grime, but no other major improvements were made to his current state of cleanliness, "Yeah. I couldn't get rid of it. I like it too much." he said with some fondness and walked over to the couch after tossing his old clothes into the hamper. The fabric was worn, almost thread barren, but it didn't change a thing to him. After the small moment of appreciation toward the old piece of furniture, he sat down on the arm of the couch, and slid back so that he fell onto the cushions, his head landing square on Lily's lap, he sighed contently, "Best seat in the house." Kael's face held a smile as he looked up at Lily, his hands resting on his stomach with his sleeves somewhat rolled up, but kept at a modest length. Kael didn't care so much about his jeans, knowing they needed to go into a load, but that could wait till later. He always had a problem with dirty shirts ever since he was younger. He couldn't wear a shirt more than once before it needed to be washed, but if it was a button-up, he could maybe push it a day and wear it again. The amount of laundry often bothered his mother, but after a while, she stopped caring.

He looked around his room and realized just how simple and plain it was. His bed was the same but the sheets had changed since the last time Lily was there. The walls held various band posters, ranging from Disturbed to Lamb of God, as well as some German metal bands like Rammstein and E Nomine. Lily was the one who really showed him that he liked heavy metal. His parents were more of the 80s and softer rock, but she had shown him a whole different side of the same coin that often made his parents cringe and scream to turn the music down. Kael continued his surveillance of his room and landed on a corkboard that held all of the photos of him and Lily that he possessed. Kael remembered the summer before she left and how crazy they were about taking pictures. After an entire summer of photographing nearly every incident, he had copies made and gave her a set, keeping the other for himself. Kael had gone through them all and took out his favorite ones, which was very difficult as he had many but his corkboard only fit a certain amount without too much overlap. With a gentle nudge, Kael caught Lily's attention and pointed at a particular one, "Remember that?" he asked.

The picture showed the two of them standing before an exhibit of otters from the zoo that was in a nearby city. It was one of the last trips they made together and after asking several people to take their picture, an elderly couple had finally stopped and accepted, saying they too had a picture of them when they were younger at that same exhibit, except there were different animals. Kael had blushed at the prospect, but nonetheless embraced Lily for the photo and at the last second, turn his head to place a kiss on her temple. The woman chastised him for doing so, but her husband smiled and commended him, saying it was a great picture. The two couples left with niceties, but Kael refused to preview the picture until it had been printed. It turned out to be his favorite one.

At the feeling of him falling back onto the couch beside of her, she gave a small "oof" sound and laughed some. She had experienced him sitting like this before and she never once minded it. They were always close and touchy feely more so than friends would be, but she never once cared. In fact she loved how they could be so close and enjoy their time together. Like she had so many times in the past when he did this, she ran a gentle hand through his hair, but this time she had more hair to tease with her gentle fingers. It amazed her just how soft it still was so she continued to stroke his hair and let it fall back into place.

Her gaze was on him until he directed her to look at the corkboard and she immediately saw the picture and laughed some. It was one of her favorite memories with him and also one of the pictures that she had framed and was sitting in one of the bags at her aunt's house that very moment. "I remember. I honestly thought that woman was going to try and ground you or something for the kiss. It was a nice touch though," she beamed down at him now.

"You never did tell me what possessed you to do it though or what that man said. I swear you two were in on it or something," Lily teased. The way the two guys had looked at one another after it was all said and done, well it looked like that was planned, but either way she enjoyed it. Every time he kissed her made her heart flutter and her stomach twist with butterflies. It also caused her to want to speak what she had been hiding for some time, but she never could find the courage to do so.

►►The feeling of her fingers running through his hair was absolutely amazing to him, though he never said it. It was a gesture his mother used to do, and still does occasionally, whenever he was upset or she was just showing affection while they were sitting together on the couch, watching a movie. Even though it was the same gesture, it felt different with Lily; almost sweeter and more genuine. Kael readjusted his head to accommodate her affection, giving her more of his hair so that there was less he was laying on. He smiled at her comment of him not telling her why he had kissed her right when the picture was taken. It was true. Ever since that day, Kael refused to tell Lily what the old man had said to him just before they parted ways. Kael closed his eyes for a brief moment before opening them and looking directly up at Lily, "You know I can't tell you. If I do, I'd have to kill you, and I don't wanna do that." he teased and chuckled before growing a little more serious.

He toyed with the idea of telling her why he had actually done that, and then why it became significantly more important to him that he had, after he spoke with the old man. Kael wasn't sure if he was crazy or not, but some might think so if they learned about this and how it changed the way Kael viewed certain things in life, "I guess I'll tell you." he finally said after a long period of silence. Kael hesitated a few seconds longer, then spoke up, "The reason why I did it was just because I wanted to. There really wasn't a big, elaborate thought process attached to it. I guess it's the same as to why I like holding your hand, or being with you as much as possible. It was just something I wanted to do." Kael said quietly, adverting his bright blue gaze from Lily to the photo. "What the man told me, before we left, was that he did the exact same thing with his wife, and they had been married for over fifty years." he stopped again, this time waiting just a bit longer before continuing on, "Now I dunno if you call that coincidence or fate, but he made me think after sayin' that." Kael was finally done and fell silent, avoiding eye contact with Lily and kept his stare on the photograph.

Lily was tempted to push the matter, having always wondered what words were shared between one another. Whenever she was alone and laying with her bed as the later hours of the night found her, she would think over little things like that. It was at times like that she wanted to up and send him a text or call and talk over things, maybe find out what was going on in her best friend's mind at certain times, but she didn't want to bother him when he should be sleeping.

Her mouth was open as she was about to begin her protest and soon it closed when he began to speak freely. Every word he spoke she would hold onto and take it all in. The gentle brushing motion continued, her fingers sliding through his hair easily and soon returning to repeat the same path as before. Without realizing it, her cheeks once again burned and she now looked down to him. "Kael..." His name was just a whisper to leave the tip of her tongue. Lily had no idea what to say right then and there, but soon she leaned in the best she could and pressed her lips in a gentle kiss that held so much behind it against his forehead when she brushed his hair back enough to do just that.
