Lily winced at the sheer force Kael had behind his grip, but she didn't dare pull away. The tears were streaming down her face, but she wouldn't dare to look at him. Things were going bad between them and she hated it, but he didn't seem to want to open up to her. It was all Luke. Before he could go though, she looked up to him, not caring if he saw her upset or not. "Well maybe if you didn't ******** keep things hidden from me! All you do is talk to Luke and it's like I'm not there!" Now she knew how Luke felt, but she hadn't meant to try and get between the two.

When he was gone, she stormed off, ignoring everyone. She called her aunt, getting an excuse to come home and signed herself out of school for the day. Going by her locker, she dropped off her books, even leaving her bag in there. In her haste to escape and get home to clean herself up, she left her phone behind as well. What did it matter, the only ones that she talked to and texted was now mad at her. Had she made a mistake of coming back? Whatever the case, she was gone.

The drive home felt longer than it should have as she tried to calm herself down, but she felt that it had been her fault. Everything. Was she letting the new friendship between Luke and Kael get to her? Was she jealous? It was all confusing how she was even going to make things right. She couldn't leave a rift between them but if it was going to be this way, maybe she should go for the college she was offered, getting her away from here. Dammit! She couldn't do that!

When she got home, Julie was already there waiting for her. She had so much time saved up that she was able to take off and spend time with her. In time she kept trying to calm her down, but it didn't seem to be working so they decided to have a girls night with pizza, wings, and even going as far as getting them some drinks. Julie knew how to make things better.

Lily was now wondering if the whole, don't date your best friend rule was what had happened between them....

                                              ►►The rest of the day was rather uneventful. Kael met with Luke as planned by the nurse's office where he explained what had happened and why his hand was most likely broken. Luke glared at the situation. It was really stupid in his mind as to how Lily was acting, but overall it worked out better for him. The nurse glared at Kael's hand, but reassured him it wasn't broken, but was very badly strained, "I am writing you a pass for tomorrow. Stay home. You won't be able to use it." she explained, wrapping it securely before handing Kael his copy for the following day. He was relieved he didn't have to go back tomorrow; he needed time away from everyone right now.

                                              Kael and Luke parted ways there, Kael on his way home after calling his mom and explaining what happened, and Luke to his locker to swap out books for the remainder of his day. It was there that he saw Lily's bag. Curiosity hit him and he struck gold. There, inside, her phone was sitting and the plug matched his own. That meant he had Kael and Lily in the palm of his hand and couldn't have been happier. Luke took Lily's phone and pocketed it before taking her backpack to the front office, "I think she forgot it. Is it safe here?" he asked. The secretary confirmed that it would be fine there and ensured she would call the family to see if Lily would like to come back to school to pick it up or if she'd like to get it the following day. Luke thanked the woman behind the counter before heading to his next class, glad his plan was now going to go full throttle.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              The following day, Kael was in hell. His step-father also had the day off and was up to Kael's neck with s**t he feels his step-son has fallen behind on. Kael wished over and over he had gone to school anyway, despite his hand being messed up. Anything would've been better than this.
                                              After cleaning the house and mowing the lawns, his hand was on fire. Despite his pain though, his step-father was done with the chores and permitted him to leave, but with the condition he needed to be home by the time his mother way. Kael nodded and closed the door behind him. As he walked down the steps, he withdrew his phone and checked to see what he had missed over the hours of cleaning. There were some texts from Lily, and all were not what he was hoping for. Kael had felt bad after blowing up on her the previous day, but he was still too hot-headed to say anything. If he had before he cooled off, things would've certainly gotten worse, and possibly to the point of no return. He frowned at the messages he had received, all of which stated she hated him, telling him she'd be better off if he were dead. He was tempted to give her that wish, but then thought better of it. What about Luke? Or his mother?
                                              Kael wandered the streets, not answering any of the texts he received, but the onslaught seemed never ending from Lily. Every hour or so he received some hateful message about how he ruined her life and made her miserable; that she resented coming back here and was happier with her parents. Kael was losing his grip on reality and soon enough, was in a complete state of depression. He threw his hood on over his head to hide his face from the peers he passed, never responding to a hello, making all he saw concerned. No one saw him like this; except for Luke.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              The following day, on Thursday, Kael failed to go to school again. It wasn't out of pain of his hand, but rather, he didn't want to see Lily. That morning he lied to his mother that he was feeling ill, and was glad to hear no argument and that he'd be able to rest since John would be out of the house as well. Kael watched his mother go from the sofa and locked the door behind her. It might as well be today than any other.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              Luke walked the halls of the school on Thursday morning, glad that he had done what he set out to do. The relationship between Kael and Lily was over. He had deleted all of the texts he had sent, except for one which Kael sent to Lily. It simply read: "It's over.". Luke finally had his best friend back! He had gotten rid of Lily and things were going to return to normal. All he had to do now was return her phone.
                                              Luke approached her first period class and entered. He was glad to see she hadn't made it yet. The teacher looked up and asked if he needed anything, considering Luke wasn't apart of the class. "Oh yea. Sorry. This is Lily Shinobi's phone. I found it in the hall. Could you give it to her?" he asked. The teacher complied, but asked his name so he knew who to say it was that returned it. "Just a friend." And with that, Luke left the room and booked it down the hall to his first class of the day, arriving just in time before the tardy bell.
Lily had debated whether or not it was worth going back to school the next day or not, but she ended up going. She had to find a way to make things right. She tried to find Kael, but noticed he wasn't around. That was when she went for her phone and found it to be missing. Odd. Didn't she have it with her last night? That was when she realized she hadn't even bothered with it and probably had left it in her locker. Going there, she moved stuff around, panicking when she no longer found it.
Luckily it was returned to her with the note and she eyed it. It had been stamped much like everything else when a teacher received something. It even had the teacher's signature that showed the phone had been returned to the rightful owner. There had been issues in the past where teachers were accused of taking phones, but never returning them when in reality it was students finding ways to get new phones. Without thinking, she slipped it into her bag, going through her phone. Her eyes widened when she saw the text, not realizing they had gotten to that point.
Multiple texts were sent to him, nothing like the ones that had been sent from her phone when it wasn't in her possession. Nothing. She gave up, going through another day of where she didn't even seem to feel anything. Part of her wanted to go and find him, but she went back through her phone when she was alone, hiding out in music class. One text stood out and it was from her that morning to Kael, but she hadn't had her phone. Her eyes widened and she went back to another text from when Luke used her phone to call his mother that day. "That a*****e!" The teacher looked up at her outburst as she stormed out, ignoring what was going on behind her. She didn't say a word to anyone, but drove off, needing time to think.
Would Kael even believe her? She tried to call him, determined to at least talk to him. If things never went back to the way they were...at least she would have closure in knowing she had tried. It would suck losing the one person that had been there for her all this time over something neither of them had control over.
                                              ►►The night had finally come. Kael had lounged most of the day, but it was no where near relaxing. He was depressed. Clinically depressed and psychologically unstable. Something in him broke when he sent that message to Lily. It's over. he hadn't meant their relationship. No. He meant his life.
                                              It was a quarter passed seven at night and Kael only had fifteen minutes before his mom would be home. He figured now would be the only time he would have. He turned off all of the lights and locked up the house before retreating upstairs to his room. Once there, Kael removed his shirt, no longer feeling the need to hide as his time was drawing to a close. His chest, stomach and arms were riddled with linear scars of all sizes and widths. Kael had experimented, and finally found the perfect tool to use to go the deepest with the least amount of effort. Kael withdrew the carving knife he had taken from his mom's Cutco knife set and sat down on his bed. The glimmer of the light on the shiny blade made him smile a small, depressed smile, and without a second thought, Kael drove the blade deep into his wrist. He drug up the length of his arm, stopping at the elbow joint and could feel his strength leaving him. He didn't have enough strength to do the same to the other side, but cut the base of his opposite wrist from side to side; a coward's cut.
                                              Kael sat on his bed, leaning back against the wall and waited. His vision was going blurry, and soon it was fading. He could see the corners fading to darkness as he felt his heartbeat slow. Kael was finally going to die.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              "Hold on young man! Hey, can you hear me? Squeeze my hand if you can!" An EMT was speaking. Kael could hardly make out what he was saying. Last he had remembered, he was laying on his bed, slumped over because he hadn't the strength to remain upright and it was then that his mom came barging in, crying at the sight. She called 9-1-1, saying her son attempted suicide; that she needed help. She tried all she could to stop the bleeding, but Kael had lost far too much.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              Time passed before Kael opened his eyes again. The bright fluorescents were bothersome. He cringed and turned away, trying to cover them with his hands, but found he couldn't move them. Quickly, Kael looked down to see that he was in restraints, lying in a hospital bed. Tears quickly began to form, his eyes frantically looking around the room until they found his mother, sitting beside his bed with her hands clutching one of his, "Darling...why?" she asked.
                                              He couldn't answer at first. Silence fell between them, but she never let go. Finally, Kael wrapped his fingers around his mother's and explained everything. She cried afterward, hugging her son, and all he could do was lay there.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              Monday came quickly, or so it seemed, and Kael was in his room dressing. His arms were bandaged and difficult to hide, and even more difficult to cover up. He tried on some long sleeved shirts but they all were too tight on his wounds, so he settled with a short sleeved t-shirt and his baggy hoodie. After he was finally comfortable in his clothing, Kael went downstairs and kissed his mother good-bye, "I'll see you after school. I promise." She started to tear up but knew her son meant it. They had shared some things while he was in the hospital that changed everything for them. She worried, as he was still weak, but knew he would do whatever it took to come home at the end of the day.

                                              Kael walked to school rather slowly. He still lacked the necessary strength to keep up his normal routine and put in his earbuds to drown out the world. When he arrived at the school, it was as if nothing had changed. And to him, nothing really had. Kael ignored most of the people who greeted him, only exchanging a few hellos every now and then and made his way to his locker to get his books for class.

The weekend drug out far too long for Lily since she really had nothing to do. Kael never would text her back and so she figured she would give him space up until Monday. At least there maybe she could get some kind of response on whether or not he even wanted to talk. No news of what had happened to Kael over the weekend had reached her or she would have been there even if they weren't talking. If this was going be the end for them, she wanted closure instead of just a text saying that it was over. Maybe then she could figure out what to do or where to go from there. Every bit of her had hoped that they could work things out, but she wasn't how sure of this she was.

Going to her locker, her bag was ready and she was about to head for her first class when she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. It was there that she laid eyes on Kael and she took this as her chance. It was now or never.

Taking a deep breath, Lily made her way over to him, but could tell by looking at him that something was off. "Kael...what's happened?" She couldn't see the bandages, but he still looked pretty pale from the loss of blood.

                                              ►►He hadn't expected to hear her voice so early in the day, nor did he hope to. Kael was still recuperating from the weekend he had, and even though it was by his own hand that gave him such a shitty time, he still wasn't exactly on the mend. Physically the man was okay; he'd live on. Mentally, emotionally, psychologically? Kael was broken and in so many ways. He really questioned if he would ever become normal again. However, with money being an issue in his family, therapy wasn't an option. The only therapy he would get would be whatever council his mom could give him, and to Kael, that council was worth far more than a hired therapist.

                                              Kael turned when he heard Lily approach him. He wasn't going to lie and say he was glad to see her. All masks were gone by this point, and his face showed everything. He wished he could hide his discomfort, but for now, it was impossible. Lily's question was impossible to answer in the amount of time that was left before first period "Meet me on the roof during lunch. I'll tell you then. For now, I've gotta go." His statement held no grounds for dispute, and after a gentle pat on her shoulder, Kael walked passed her to his first period.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              Time went by slowly as Kael played catch-up in his first four classes. All of his teachers had been notified of what had happened, and by discretion, spoke nothing of it, but simply told him to take as long as he needed to catch up on the previous assignments. Two of his teachers gave him condensed versions of the notes which had been covered in that class, to which he was extremely grateful for. The eyes and murmurs Kael received from other classmates could've gone without, but he supposed it was all warranted considering he blew up at Lily, nearly broke his hand, then was absent for the last half of last week. Plus, he wasn't at the coffee shop at all over the weekend like he normally was. Kael held no grudges against his peers, but wished they'd shut up already.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              Lunch time finally arrived and he needed food. Fast. He could feel a headache coming on from not eating breakfast, and his arms felt wet with blood as he had used them all day. Before meeting with Lily, Kael went to the nurse's office, who also had been informed, so that she could help change his bandages. She didn't speak a word to him, and neither did he to her, as she undressed and redressed his arms. His right arm was worse than his left, as he is left-handed. It bore the long vertical cut that ran from his wrist to the elbow joint, almost completely over the main vein that often stood out on his slender arms. His right wrist held a deep gash, and if it were separated just a little more, then Kael could've seen the bones of his wrist. He had done a very good job at his attempt. Had his mother taken just a minute longer, Kael wouldn't have made it.

                                              After receiving the go-ahead from the nurse, Kael thanked her quietly before leaving the office and heading for the roof access. He climbed the stairs slowly and when reaching the top, found himself the first one there. Kael took this opportunity to eat the orange he had packed for himself before leaving home that morning. It was juicy and sweet; about the only thing he had enjoyed in over a week. The sound of the door opening alerted him that Lily was there. He looked over his shoulder and was right, "Hey." he said simply from his perch on the ledge. Kael waited till she was situated and comfortable before saying another word.

Lily just gave him the chance to say what he needed to, soon watching him as he walked past her. She felt like this whole situation could have been avoided in the long run, but she knew that she had to make sure that he was okay. Whispers seemed to be getting around about the rift between the two of them and she ignored them the best that she could, not in the mood to deal with such petty nonsense. There was enough going on as it was, why couldn’t people just leave it alone?

She continuously watched the clock, wishing that time would pass sooner than what it was. She had to make sure that he was okay; it was just something she had to do. Even if things remained as they were or they went their separate ways entirely, she would always be there for him. It seemed crazy even to her, but Kael had always been so good to her. Deep down part of her wished that they had just left things the way they were, never crossing that line that divided friends from being in a relationship. But then she remembered how great things had been in the short time they were a couple and she knew she had to hang on to those memories. They were precious to her as were the rest they had made together.

Walking out onto the rooftop of the school, Lily could easily see Kael was there. For a moment she just stood there, taking in the sight of him as she weighed out what was to be said that day, what had to be done. At this point she wasn’t even a hundred percent sure of what all needed to be said. It scared her, but she walked over to where he was, taking a seat, but keeping distance between them. Crowding him wouldn’t make it any easier and if they were still on odd terms, she didn’t want to make it worse. Crossing her legs in front of her, she looked over to him. “Hey…” Her word was quiet, not holding the life in it that it normally would have. Lily hated this distance that had formed between them, she wanted things to go back to the way they were. She wanted Kael back, even if it was just as a friend. He was an important part of her and she needed him in her life. Now the question was whether or not he wanted her around.

Companion: Lily

                                              ►►It wasn't easy to just come out and say 'So, I tried to kill myself.' and it took Kael a long time before he could muster up the thought of even putting those words together. He leaned against the ledge, his hands shoved into the front pockets of his hoodie to hide the bandages from his strained hand and where the IVs had been inserted due to the terrible conditions of his wrists. His eyes remained on his feet, or at the metal door that led out to this area, or up at the sky. Anywhere but Lily. Something didn't feel right between them, granted, and he knew it started with that mysterious text he had received when they went to the hardware store. Ever since then he felt extremely closed off from her, as if he couldn't tell her anything because something could go wrong in the process. However, that wasn't why he was on the rooftop that day. No. Rather, he figured it was only right to tell Lily about his depression and his nearly successful suicide attempt.

                                              Some ten minutes of silence passed between them before Kael finally found the strength to say something. He kept his eyes averted though; he couldn't dare look at anyone in the face while confessing a horrible secret, "After you left, Mom got remarried. This guy....he was nice at first, welcoming, understanding to our situation and constantly reassured us he wanted to help. One day, something happened, and I don't know what, but he changed. He started to hold Dad's death over us, blaming us for the bills that he had to assume responsibility of because Mom had lost her job and we were out of money. This kept up for a while, and then he turned his eye to me. He constantly told me that if I hadn't been around, if I had only died after Dad did, then my mom would be happy. He told me all sorts of weird and crazy things...and I believed him." He felt it was only appropriate to include a backstory of his home life, considering it held a major part of his depression. "That was when I...." Kael hesitated, then sighed and kept going, "That was when I started cutting." He looked up at Lily right then, but it wasn't for long. Soon, his eyes were back down on the cement floor before them, and he continued on with his story.

                                              "This has been going on for months. Sometime after we stopped talking completely. At first, talking to you kept me strong, but when I lost my outlet, I had no where else to go, so I resorted to that. Luke saw I wasn't my usual self and forced me to tell him about John, my step-father. I did, and after, he took over that position of being my outlet. You were busy, and I don't blame you. But I can't lie and say that I wasn't angry. Despite all of that, though, it wouldn't have been fair to you to say that I was depressed and it was cruel of you to not keep in touch. It was all unfortunate circumstances.

                                              Anyway. After Luke took over, I stopped for a little while, but not long. Things at home were getting worse, and when John decided bitching at me wasn't enough, that he felt beating me was necessary, I went back to cutting. Luke never knew about my cutting; I always wore long-sleeves or put them in places no one should find."
                                              Kael stopped and took a moment. It was extremely difficult for him to keep going, but he couldn't stop mid-confession.

                                              "After you came back, I felt amazing. I had you back in my life, and I had Luke, someone who helped me through some really difficult times. I thought that if I had both of you together, then I wouldn't feel the need to cut anymore. But I was wrong. I see you both hate each other. Luke confessed he never did care for you, but wanted to try and be civil for my sake.

                                              After I got that text the day we went to the hardware store, and we stopped talking so much, things at home were getting worse as well. When we had our fight, I lost it. I strained my hand really bad hitting that door over there"
                                              Kael nodded over at the metal entrance door; there on the face of it was a huge dent from where he had hit it repeatedly. "The nurse wrote me out for Thursday, and then when I got home, I kept getting all of these texts from you, saying the worst things. So I asked Mom if I could stay home Friday as well. She said it was fine, but I was so lost. So depressed. On Friday, I sent you a text saying it was over. What was over was my life.." Kael stopped there and got off of the ledge. Carefully, he removed his bandaged hands from their concealment and removed the hoodie. There, in the sun, in his short-sleeved t-shirt, he revealed to Lily why he had been absent the last half of the week, also why he never text her back. He didn't get home from the hospital until late Sunday night, "I tried to kill myself. Had Mom been a minute longer, the EMTs said I wouldn't have made it." Kael dropped his hoodie to the ground, despite wanting to curl back up and hide in it forever. He had just shown Lily, so it was too late to turn back now.

Lily sat there, giving him time to think on what needed to be said. It was easy to see that this was hard for him just to up and admit, but she had no idea just how deep it went. When he began talking, her heart began to break for him, but she kept quiet. A lone tear fell and she didn't even notice it was there as she clenched her pants leg up in her hand, the hem of it as if she was holding on to reality. This couldn't be real...could it? Kael, the happy boy she grew up with had been hiding this. She looked down, unable to bring herself to meet his gaze. How could she have missed this? She felt like a terrible friend.

"Kael...I am so sorry." She finally looked up to him, taking in the sight of him with the bandages and such. "I never meant to make things harder for you..." She stopped, the sight was just making her bite back the tears, but failed miserably. "I'm sorry I wasn't there. I'm sorry you had to go through this alone. I wish you would have told me sooner..."

Her head dropped, but when he mentioned her texting him more, she gave a shake of her head. "Kael...I didn't text you Friday until late that evening. My phone was missing. Here look." She pulled her phone and the papers she had waded up and handed them to him. She even let him access the phone to see that those messages were gone.

"I wanted to talk to you about this, but well since things are coming out now...maybe it is for the better. After our fight, I forgot my bag which must have had my phone in it. I didn't notice it was gone until Friday and I ran into one of the teachers who had it, saying someone turned it in to him. There's the note where they signed they had it and when they got it." She let him look.

"There's more, but I need to know if you want to hear it or not before I go on." Lily figured giving him the option would be better for the both of them.

                                              ►►He shook his head when her apology came. It wouldn't do either of them good for her to think it was her fault. Yes, Lily was a reason why he fell off of the deep-end, but she wasn't the entire, "You don't need to apologize. I don't want anyone's pity." he said flatly. Kael had nothing against her, he wasn't mad; he simply hated being pitied. To have someone feel sorry for you was the worst feeling of degradation that a person could be subjected to, and Kael wanted none of it. He looked over at her when she started to explain the whole situation regarding her phone. It shocked him that she was keeping with the "I didn't send it" story, but if she was this persistent, then perhaps she didn't. "Lily, you can't expect me to play dumb and not say it wasn't you. I still have the texts," he handed over his phone to her, letting her see all of the messages he had received from her since Wednesday evening. That was when it all started. They continued to get worse and worse as the day turned into Thursday.

                                              Kael didn't like hearing that she didn't have her phone until Thursday morning. If that had been true, then that meant that someone else had it in their possession, which meant that someone else sent those messages. Kael felt his heart drop to the pit of his stomach. Those texts that he had received, along with the verbal and physical abuse his step-father had done to push him over the edge were what made him really consider and actually perform the suicide attempt. If Lily hadn't sent those hateful texts, then who did?

                                              He left his thoughts where they were when he heard Lily's voice drop off. She wanted to know if he wanted her to continue on with her side of the story. He simply nodded and continued to listen, all the while his eyes never tore away from the paper and phone that were in his hands. The note from the teacher stating he did in fact receive the phone, and also the signature stating he had given it to the appropriate student was indeed genuine. The name of the student who had turned it in was left blank. Kael was confused. Who had turned in her phone? The phone itself held none of the degrading, hateful texts that his did, but rather dated back to before the first one had been sent over a week ago. Something wasn't right, and he wanted to get to the bottom of this.

Lily took his phone, taking a moment to look over the messages and with each one that she read, she became furious. How could anyone ever dare do such a thing to Kael? He was such a great guy and didn't deserve this. No wonder he had been as upset as he had. If someone had sent these she would have been hurt. Unable to read all of them, she returned the phone and took her own from his hand, being careful not to hit his wrist. She still had her gentle touch when it came to him.

"When we last talked about the text that you said I didn't want you with me to go shopping, that was the same day that I let only one person borrow it. Luke said he was texting his mother. Look." She pulled up the text that Luke had in fact sent the text to his mother, not having bothered to delete it since she often forgot to clean out her phone. There were times when Kael had to remind her that she had to get rid of some of the messages. Yeah...back when they were still close.

"Now look at the date stamp on the text that was sent. I found it after you mentioned it. Those are within a minute of each other. I never sent it. Hell I didn't know it was on the phone until I started looking for it." Lily watched him, hoping that maybe things would be okay now or at least maybe they could move forward with what they needed to do.

                                              ►►Kael took Lily's phone when she showed him some proof that perhaps Luke had been behind all of this. He couldn't believe his own best friend would be. He couldn't believe it so much so he refused to entertain the thought, despite the fact that she had hard evidence of the suggestion, "Why would he do this? It doesn't make any sense. He's been by my side for as long as I can remember. Hell, we grew up together!" Kael shook his head and gave Lily her phone. He dropped his head, looking at the white bandages which were beginning to take on a pink hue. Kael's heart rate was up, which meant so was his blood pressure; a high blood pressure meant an increase in blood circulation, and Kael's wounds weren't anywhere near healed. In fact, they had to sew his arms closed with how deep he had gone.

                                              A sigh of frustration left Kael as he pocketed his phone. Lunch was nearly over, which meant he had to go another three periods before he had the chance to confront Luke about all of this. If it was true...well, things weren't going to end well for someone. Kael got off of the ledge and took a deep breath, calming himself down before bending down and picking up his hoodie. With a quick motion, he threw the jacket on, avoiding most of the pain that the movement caused, and zipped it all the way up, "Don't say a word about this to anyone. No one needs to know." He looked at Lily as he said this, his face holding a serious expression. If the school found out that he had attempted to end his life, they would have a field day with it. If that were to happen, then he mind as well and try again just to end it.

                                              Kael swung his backpack onto his shoulder and shoved his hands into his hoodie pockets, "It's time to go; I'll see you in class." and with that, Kael left the rooftop just as quickly as he had appeared.

Lily gave a shrug of her shoulders when Kael asked why Luke might have done something like this. She had a slight hint of an idea, but that was it. She had hoped that she was wrong about the whole idea in regards to Luke, but it seemed that wasn't the case whatsoever. If it had been jealousy, she would have been willing to talk to him, but that didn't even come to what had happened.

"I won't tell anyone Kael. You should know me better than that." Lily watched him go, but she remained for the time being. She looked out over the view of the school grounds, not really wanting to go down yet. What did any of this mean? She had never been so confused before.

Realizing she had skipped this class, she figured it was best she went to the rest of them. Someone might suspect something was up if she kept missing like she had been.

The rest of the day was a drag and she was ready for the bell. When it rang, Lily didn't even bother hanging around, going for her car and went to the one place she went when she needed to think. Their spot where so much had happened for them. She wasn't ready to go home, not yet.

Companion: Classmates / No one / Luke and Lily

                                              ►►The longer that Kael sat in class, pretending to be recovering from the flu or some weird sickness and attempting to catch up on materials that he had missed, the longer that his mind began to think back on these last two weeks. So much had happened, so much that drove him to the edge and pushed him over. Constantly while he was in the hospital, Kael was told that he was lucky to be alive. Over and over again he reassured himself that he wasn't. Now, as he sat in his final period of the day, he was beginning to think that one of his friends was deceiving him; he just needed to figure out who.

                                              With discretion, though most of his teachers have been extremely lenient with him, Kael withdrew his phone from his pocket, careful not to hurt his arm so that he wouldn't react to the sharp pain that often accompanied any contact with the wound. He opened a new text and addressed it to Luke, asking him to meet him at the park on 6th and J St. That was the same park that he and Lily often went to in order to get away from the city. Today, he wanted to use it to confront Luke without any onlookers. He quickly received a reply:

                                              'No problem man [:'

                                              Kael closed his phone, returned it to his pocket and just as he was about to pick up his pencil to continue his note-taking, the bell rang. It was time to go.

                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                              He walked down the streets with his ear buds planted firmly in his ears, Five Fingered Death Punch screaming into his head to destroy any outside noise that might distract him from his goal. He hadn't any idea that Lily was going to the same park, otherwise, he would've chosen a different location. Kael took in a deep breath and slowly approached the park. Kael unplugged his iPod, turning off the music as he did so. He didn't expect Lily to be there, yet there she was, sitting on the park bench; he hadn't thought Luke would beat him there either, yet there he was, standing in front of Lily. Kael hung back, hidden behind a tree and listened to the conversation between the two.
                                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                              Luke hadn't expected to get the text he had from Kael, but was more than happy to oblige at his request. His mood was uplifted since final period, a happy tune being whistled as he walked down the hall, swapped out his books and started for the park Kael had mentioned. Luke had gone all day without a single word from the man; he had began to worry, but with how messed up Kael was the last time he saw him, he figured he needed some space. Especially considering everything that happened between him and Lily.

                                              The trip to the park was short; Luke had been here before several times and took a shortcut through the neighborhood in order to beat Kael there. He hadn't expected Lily to be there though. That put a frown upon his face. As he approached, he could see a disturbed expression upon the girl's face, "How's it goin' little lady?" he called out, announcing his arrival as he walked up to where she was sitting. He wore his usual happy-go-lucky smile upon his face, his demeanor as friendly as ever. What was wrong with this girl? Luke still couldn't figure it out, but there was definitely something about her he didn't like. However, Luke kept that feeling back and only revealed his usual happy mood, "What'cha doin' here?" he asked, striking up conversation until Kael arrived.

Lily had been hoping for a quiet evening without anything to trouble her anymore, but it seemed that this wasn't going to happen. Already there was the peace disturbed as someone entered the park. When she laid eyes upon Luke, she wanted to lash out at him and tell him off, but she felt that wasn't the best thing to do. She didn't trust the guy after everything that was going on. It took a lot for Lily not to like or trust someone and it seemed Luke had crossed that line with her.

"I just came here to get a break. What are you doing here?" She asked quietly, just keeping her calm and cool for the time being as she set her phone aside on the bench. Texts between her and her aunt had been sent. Even Max had sent a text to check in on her, worried about her since things had been strange between her and Kael. The man had come around to liking the boy and now he wasn't sure of him. Was this all just some kind of ploy to get at his niece? He didn't know, but he trusted Lily to make things work out.
