"Barely," Nikki muttered moving to hide the scare behind her ear again. It wasn't that she didn't try to hide it from him, no one knew how bad it gotten but the police and doctor.
"Becca and Mike didn't know how bad it gotten. All she knew was he hit me a few times while drunk and we broke up. Mike didn't really now that. Neither of them no about the marks." She had only showed him one mark, the others were worse. She curled up, bringing her knees to her chest at him yelling.
Her body shook at the sudden uproar from him. He had the right to be mad but he had the right to not know anymore since they broke up. Ignored her phone calls countless of times. When the cigarette was offered, she took it and held her hand for a light.
"It's worse." She stuck the cigarette between her lips and turned her back to him. This was the reason she didn't swim any more. Lifting the back of her shirt, she revealed the etching marks there. They looked like trail of swirls, welds of smallest worm barrels you would see in a piece of wood, matching the one behind her ear.
