"Roger" Mike replied standing up. Andy helped Nikki steady herself as she got up using his shoulder for support. Rebecca and Mike grabbed their bags and started to walk once everyone was on their feet. Andy waited a moment before starting to walk himself keeping a hand ready to support Nikki as she walked. He bent down to grab his own bag slinging it over his opposite shoulder along with the tent bag. He was eager to get out of the area as the others were. The place gave him the creeps. It wasn't very comforting knowing you were possibly sharing the wilderness with a group of psycho cult members, always a possibility but not something you normally think about.

As he helped Nikki walk he looked down at her when she suddenly demanded a cigarette. He'd already removed the ones from his nose now that they were walking away from the lake and grabbed the one he'd left on the rock earlier "Oh no you don't" He said in between his own puff as he narrowed his eyes at her surprised at her sudden request "You worked hard to get off these things, think I'm just gonna hand 'em over just like that? No way" he replied backing up his statement he stuffed his pack in his opposite pocket "Drink your water" He added.

The pack seemed heavier then before but at Andy request she sipped at her water. "Please Andy? I'm at my wits end here, my nerves are shot and frankly don't think stuff those things in you pocket or any where else will stop me from grabbing one." Nikki growled holding it her hand in demand again. Specially with then bringing out her other ex.

Before them the couple snickered and muttered something of them fighting like a married couple or something. Nikki rubbed her face taking around sip of her water. Out there now could be the cult or a deadly animal, she didn't know which was once.

Dragging his feet with the extra weight as he walked Andy adjusted the bags on his shoulders the sooner they were at the next site the better. He needed to relax or do something to take his mind off what they just witnessed. He glanced at Nikki as she continued to hold her hand out and plea for one of his smokes. If he didn't give her one she would either beg him the whole way, or hit him, or as she said steal the rest of his cigs. "Ugh, fine" He said, he knew very well stuffing them in his pocket wasn't going to stop her if she really wanted them. It probably wouldn't even if he put them in his boxers either, we'll at one time at least maybe.

"Here have the rest of this one" He said handing her the one he'd been smoking, after inhaling once more, he hadn't used up very much of it. "No more though you hear" He said firmly, after all he had to save these for the rest of the trip if they didn't run into a store somewhere along the way, assuming there were small towns around out here, though he didn't really think his words would sink in once she felt the buzz. "Geez you really got spooked didn't you.." he said looking at her once she had the cigarette.

Finally,Nikki thought taking the cigarette from and inhaling a bit. God this taste nasty, she cough a moment. "It just broke back bad memories to quickly." She muttered sticking the cancer stick between her lips and walking with it there. It was an old habit she had back when she did smoke like Andy did, back wen things were well...perfect.

The forest became desenser, the trail marker even harder yet to read. They had to be nearing their next checkpoint soon, she thought pulling the folded map from the strap poker of her pack. Was she and Becca sharing a tent like she was told or was last minute was she going to be with Andy again.

Watching her cough after inhaling the smoke Andy wanted to only say 'I told you so' but he kept his mouth shut. Instead he walked quietly beside her letting her enjoy the first cigaret she's probably had in four years. He turned his head only when she started to speak again but his face turned only to confusion. And he instantly felt guilty, even though he didn't know what bad memories she was talking about. Was it something that happened in recent years, a recent break up, something in the family? Or was it further back, he couldn't recall anything majorly negative happening as long as he knew her, maybe a death of a relative or something but everyone went through that. Or was it something that happened between them specifically? This trip was bringing a lot of things back, memories and feelings of mixed emotions of good and bad. He knew they fought a lot toward the end but surely it wasn't that bad was it? He couldn't help but think back all those years try and figure out which events specifically might have popped back in her mind. All the yelling and fighting, he'd never touched her in anyway but there were times where he let loose a gunfire of verbal profanity, threats, remarks, and things he couldn't take back with an apology. Andy had a feeling in his gut that what ever she was talking about had something to do with them, feeling a bit guilty he scratched his head nervously even though everything was in the past and he knew none of it mattered now, they weren't together anymore they were friends if even, and everything was behind them. "oh" He replied he wanted to ask further but that was all that came out before he pulled a cigarette out for himself.

He turned his attention to the map as Nikki pulled it out trying to get a read on their location, they were certainly getting into thicker areas of the mountain again. And with the light fading it was getting really hard to tell where they were headed. "Where we at?" he asked looking down at the map in her hand, it wasn't hard to see everything on the map with the light they still had available but he didn't have a clue on how to read it "Hey Mike where are we planning on stopping, nothings marked on this thing?" He called out other man seeing that they had gotten a bit ahead of them. It was almost like they knew where they were going already sometimes, like it was all intuition for them even though they really had no clue either.

"Nothing to deal with you." Nikki muttered at his oh. The map had her all confused and she handed it over to Andy finishing the cigarette finally and snuff it out of the bottom of her boot. "One more mile you two. Then its soup on the fire and beer."

"And music." Mike stated to them hiking the bag higher. Nikki closed her eyes briefly rubbing the scare behud her ear. Sleep, she just wanted to go to sleep and not dream, not feel. Pressing on, the visibility started getting worse and finally they were able to stop and start sent up tents. "Next time we need to just get one big tent for the four of us, the one with a divider."

"I didn't say nothin' " Andy replied quickly, though that had him wondering even more what she had been talking about. It was none of his business he knew but he was curious still. He took the map from Nikki and placed it in his bag knowing he wouldn't really be able to follow it either. It was best to leave it up to the professionals up ahead of them. "Great" Andy replied as they pressed on.

As they walked further it started to get even more difficult to see the trail and Mike and Rebecca signaled for them to stop. "Is this the check point?" Andy asked glancing at the map again
"No but its getting too dark, we're close enough though" Mike replied. As they set up the tents Rebecca made a comment about getting one big tent instead of the two they had. "Yeah but then we'll feel it moving in the middle of the night next time you two dont stick to the original sleeping arrangements" Andy stated as he kept his attention on the part of the tent he was staking down to the ground.

Once the tents were set up they lit another fire and began cooking dinner, Andy felt his stomach growl as he waited for the food to be ready. Mike already had the radio going as well turning it up once he found a good station. The fire popped and cracked as the temperature rose as they fed it more wood. "Be right back gotta take a piss" Andy muttered as he tossed an empty beer can into the fire. "Dont take too long dinner's almost done" Rebecca joked as she already started getting silverware and everything else ready.

"I agree with Andy. I'm not up for feeling a shaken tent." Nikki had helped with building the fire this time her stomach growling from not eating that morning and fainting earlier. "Yeah well you should try it you prudes." Mike stated once everything was done and started dinner.

The beer went down to easily, Nikki stared at the empty can before watching Andy walked off. Rebbeca stirred the soup and started laddeling it into bowls to hand them out. Nikki muttered a thank you and held two."Hurry up Andy. You don't need to do more then two shakes." That made Mike laugh.

"Who you callin' a prude Mike?" Andy said as he walked. He headed far enough into the trees not to be seen but there was still enough light from the fire to make out where he was going. He heard Nikki's comment well enough and smirked shaking his head muttering to himself as he unzipped his fly.

The group sat and ate their food finally filling their stomachs. A strange crackling noise suddenly surrounded them followed by several screeches. It repeated over and over, Andy paused in the middle of a spoonful of soup to listen "What is that?" He asked unable to tell where it was coming from. "Just bats" Rebecca replied "Scare you?"
"No" Andy said quickly "I just never heard that before, not that loud anyway" Andy scraped at the bottom of his bowl gulping down the last of his soup before pouring himself another bowl. "You'll hear a lot of things out here that seem strange, its like going into an old house" Rebecca said as she lay on the ground next to mike on her back using his leg as a pillow as she talked to them. "Maybe we'll hear some wolves or coyotes sometime...do they have those here?" She asked looking up at Mike who only shrugged in response. "Probably more likely a bear, though we dont want them either"

Nikki as her soup quitely as the others talked. She felt like she hasn't ate in two day but that was from not eating all today and barely that morning with the long hike. "Bats, coyotes and wolves I don't mind but bears and raccoons are the worse. Those will get into our food and items without a second thought of the matter." "Mike and I had bears get into the cabin we stayed at two falls ago, ruined the whole trip."

"Sucks, coons got into the trash at my apartment building all the time. The landlord was upset."She finished the bowl and got another before sitting back and listening to the sounds of the bats flapping. As long as everything didn't go silent then they were safe, silents meant a predator was around.

"Get a dog" Andy said simply as he took another bite of food "There's ones trained for that aren't there? killin' coons." he shook his head to himself as he shrugged his shoulders. Once the group was finished eating they all put out the fire and got ready for bed once more. This time Rebecca and Mike stayed true to the original sleeping arrangements. Mike and Andy were sprawled out in the large tent leaving Rebecca and Nikki to the smaller one. Neither of them went to sleep right away, joking and drinking beer in their tent till they passed out.

Sometime in the night Andy jolted awake in their tent. He lay frozen his eyes wide open as he stared at the ceiling of the tent. The hairs on his neck and arms stood on end as he lay motionless. Something wasn't right, he could feel it. He could hear it. Andy sat up in his sleeping bag, listening. Something was outside around their campsite. He paused again listening, it was a similar noise to the bats as earlier, but this was different, he wasn't sure how to describe it in his mind but he knew he didn't like it. Andy turned to Mike who was snoring away beside him, he shook his friend trying to wake him whispering his name as he did so. Mike made a few noises before doing a double take look at his friend beside him "w-Wha-?" He muttered still have asleep not really aware of what was going on.
"Theres something outside, listen" Andy said looking at the tent door.
Mike paused, "Its just the bats again Andy geez go to sleep will yah. Wake me if theres a bear or something" Mike said rolling over again.
"No no its not," Ady whispered "This sounds different, cant you hear it"
Mike paused again this time listening longer, once again the sound Andy had been hearing made itself known. Mike turned over on his back as he waited for it to come again before sitting up in his sleeping bag like Andy "What the ******** is that" He said in an annoyed groggy voice.

Nikki and Rebecca stayed up whispering half the night in their tent. Becca worried about Nikki, her cut, and her past. After hours it seemed of the gossip, they fell asleep. Nikki's face was inches near the outside of the tent as the noises started. A light tearing noise of nails against fabric became aware of itself. The girl felt the tent side hit her face and she kicked her feet.

"Becca say on you. Side that hurt." The girl grumbled before her face got hit again. Blue eyes opened at the sude of the tent and she frowned leaning up hearing the boys talking from their tent. "Andy if your kicking the tent I'm going to kill you."

Andy and Mike turned their heads at the sound of Nikki's voice from the other tent. Kicking the tent? First off Mike was closer to her so he wasn't sure how she jumped to the conclusion that it was him, but that was besides the point. What ever she'd felt wasn't them, but they hadn't seen or heard anything pass by. There wasn't even a - Andy paused in thought and grabbed Mikes arm tapping him for attention as they saw shadowy forms pass over their tent, they were faint and moved quickly. "That isn't a bear" Mike whispered.
"Pr-Probably just some other campers you know? Just playing tricks, stupid teenagers"
"Yeah your right" Mike whispered nodding "You should go teach 'em a lesson"
Andy looked at his friend "Why do I have to go teach them a lesson"
"Cause you're scary"
" ******** you, we'll both go out" Andy replied "Teach these punks a lesson" He said getting up out of his sleeping bag.

Andy and Mike got out of the tent as quick as they could and moved into the campsite thinking they would see a group of kids darting into the woulds, but there was nothing. Even the noises had stopped. They stared out into the woods around them turning in circles faces full of confusion as they found no trace of anything being in the site apart from the trace of nail that had been scraped along the girls tent. It didn't tear but it left a line or two before stabbing into the fabric in areas. Mike inspected the tent and asked if the girls were okay while Andy stood in the site. His eyes wondered about the campsite at the surrounding trees. Everything around them was quiet again, too quiet for his comfort.

Suddenly as he turned to the side he stared at a dark figure in the outline of the trees. It stood there unmoving, staring at them as Andy stared back at it. Andy turned narrowing his gaze at the figure "Hey!"He called. The figure didn't respond, it just stood there. Andy started to take a step forward "Hey! what's the big idea? I'm talking to you a*****e" Andy moved forward toward the figure again and this time the figure disappeared completely into the trees. "Hey!" Andy yelled again and darted after him but stopped once he was passed the treeline when he couldn't make tale or trace of where the figure went. Whoever it was was gone.

The sound of the zipper opening told Nikki the either the boys were going back into their tent or out. Her confusion was answered by Mike sticking his head in the tent. "Hey a*****e that wasn't funny. I have a bruise starter." The girl rubbed he forehead where a red mark was forming. Becca beside her finally was waking up. "What's going on?" "Your boyfriend kicked me." Mike made a face. "It wasn't me Nikki. We were asleep till Andy heard..."

Mike's voice stopped when he heard Andy yelling at someone and he leaned back on his heels to watch Andy run into the trees. He stood up as the girls scrambled half asleep to peer out of the tent towards the direction Mike was. "Andy?"

Andy stayed in the treeline a bit longer, watching and waiting for any sign of movement, but there was nothing. Only the sound of crickets. He turned around and headed back over toward the others. Once he reached the tent he noticed the marks that had been made on the girls tent, they seemed to be okay though. "Some assholes are trying to mess with us, stupid kids" He said in an annoyed tone. Though that figure seemed big, and although he couldn't make any features it looked older and stronger than a teenage boy.

Mike looked down at the girls "I know it'll be cramped but maybe you guys should sleep in our tent with us tonight. Just in case they decide to come back" His mind wondered to the cave and he hoped that this had nothing to do with it, the last thing they needed was to deal with any crazy people, he hoped Andy was right about it being just some stupid punk kids going around terrorizing hikers.
