As much as it pained me to read Queeny of Hearts post because of the grammar (which may or may not be related to having English as a second language since clearly her primary is Spanish), she was pretty spot on in the summaries of why it's important to read the context surrounding a verse. I love how everyone bashed her grammar, but didn't bother trying to beat down the real point of her post.

As it was also said, those all are from the Old Testament. A *lot* of stuff changed when Jesus came. Yes, those things all still happened (slavery, some form of sexism, etc) but that was just how things were then...hell, that's how things were up until a couple hundred years ago. Racism and sexism are still a problem, but it's not how we are *supposed* to be acting. It's just how we humans with our rebellious free will choose to live, regardless of what we are supposed to be doing.

If you (OP or anyone else) don't believe in God, or the Bible, that's fine. But you should at least try to understand it before you bash it. I don't mean just read it for things you can throw into the world hoping to turn Christians away from their life choice, either. I mean *really* give it a chance. If you have done that, and still come up that it's not for you and you still don't agree, that's your choice and you are far more likely to be respected on both sides of the Bible argument.

Religion is pure crap and evil, most of the wars are started because of religion. And why? because they take the Bible, Koran or what ever to seriously. The bible and such is just a guideline to live a good life to love the ones you care about and to be a good neighbor and such.
There is no god the only god is you. You are the one who has to lead your life not some sort of God who you cannot see or has not been proven that he/she/it excists.

People use religion as an EXCUSE for wars. THERE Is nothing WRONG w/ religion especially if people use it to find inner peace or whatever. People on the other hand can be complete morons and stick to predjudices because of the way they were raised and once again justify w/ religion.

from a religious person's point of view, the bible was supposedly passed down from God, and God told people what to put in it.

there are several verses in the bible that promotes extrememly vulger things. things such as slaves, sexism, and even killing babies!

these are the following verses:

Leviticus 25:45-
"You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property."
It says "WHO" have been born on your land, so its saying you can own slaves, as long as they're from your land stare

Timothy 2:12-
"I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet."
this one is just plain obviously sexist!

its basically talking about the rights of a woman, if you sell your daughter as a sex slave stare

i know some might not believe me, and think im making this up. but if this wasnt ACTUALLY there, what reason would i have to be against the bible?

Yeah there are some verses about killing doves everytime you have your period, etc, but taking things out of context can make the Bible seem even worse... Aren't there some chapters written by people that really had no right on inputting how people live their lives, anyhow?
