My first memories were that of cold, snow, and blood. All years before the age of five are lost to my memory. It was that snowy winter that I was attacked by a Level E vampire (Vampires who have completely lost their humanity) which installed a great fear of vampires in me. I would've died that night had it not been for Kaname Kuran and there has been a strong bond between us ever since. Kaname took me to his close friend, Kaien Cross, who took me in as his adopted daughter. While an intense fear of vampires still hid within me, Kaname's gentle care and friendliness taught me that not all vampires in the world are evil.<br />
But in my heart I still knew not all vampires could be good.<br />
Years later, a boy named Zero Kiryu came to live with us. The deep sorrow in his eyes wrenched at my heart. His family had been slaughtered by an evil vampire, leaving him all alone and scared with an unbreakable hatred for all vampires. Zero was never able to accept Kaname because of his being a vampire; it seemed that Zero was unable to release his painful grip on his past, which is something we have in common. But despite that, Zero has been my best friend over the years besides Yori, my room mate from Cross Academy.<br />
Cross Academy-- the school I attend-- is run by Chairman Cross; my adopted father. The academy is set up so that all the students live in dorms on the campus and are split up into the day class and night class. However, the secret of Cross Academy is that the night class is made up entirely of vampires. It is mine and Zero's job as Guardians to protect the vampiric secret from the Day Class and protect the Day Class from the Night class. Zero and I patrol the grounds each night; Zero with his Bloody Rose and me with my Artemis Rod; our anti-vampire weapons. <br />
But everything changed when Zero's dark past rose to the surface again. <br />
I first learned that Zero had been turned into a vampire by the pureblood who slayed his family when he lost control and drank my blood. While this brought forth my deep fear of vampires, I knew I had to help my friend. After he had lost control and hurt me, he had threatened to run away or even kill himself, which I could not allow. Chairman Cross gave me a bracelet that, using magic, would paralize Zero is he had ever lost control again. And, for fear that he would fall to Level E, I offer him my blood whenever needed. <br />
But neither Zero or I will ever be able to live normal lives. The past is creeping up on us both all the time. I still get flashbacks of that blood-stained winter night and I often have to force a smile or act happy and energetic to hide my fear.<br />
