- Actually... After he betrayed the Soul Society he was still a soul reaper.... the arrancar are hollows who have removed their masks to gain soul reaper powers (their very name implies this action, as 'arrancar' is a Spanish verb meaning 'to remove' or 'to rip off'.) Gin was never a hollow, therefore cannot be an arrancar.
