When I was really little, before preschool even, I loved Superman so much, that my mom knitted me a Superman cape. It was so cool, I would run around the yard pretending to fly and lift rocks using my 'super strength.'

Though when people would ask me about it, they would be say. "Saving the world today Supergirl?" I would strongly reply. "No, because I'm Superman." Often would we have conversations, stupid one's, about how I should be super girl, rather than Superman because of my gender...

The way I saw it, Superman had a couple awesome movies and he was really cool, but Supergirl, had that one crappy movie, which didn't really stick in my memory, so naturally I wanted to be Superman because he was way cooler.

One day my cape disappeared. I don't know where it went to this day, it may have been chopped up by the lawn mower, or it might have been thrown away because of my 'identity' problems... I bet it was thrown away, because whenever I asked about it my mom was evasive. I just know I spent summer's looking around the yard, and digging holes trying to find it. I missed my cape so much, it was almost like a security blanket.

This was my first experience learning how grounded we are in reality and what little choice in our lives we have, to be who we want to be.
