Easter 2011: Postmortem
Well it's over, all that's left is to announce the winners and grant the final prize!

I was out of town on vacation most of the event so sadly I wasn't able to post a dev notice warning everyone they had a day left to complete it, however I figured a week was enough time. I noticed some people were wondering why we didn't put the end date in any of the announcements but the truth is I hadn't really decided on one before I left >.<

I'm happy most of you liked the bunny hunt. I won't dare take credit for that idea as it wasn't mine but it was different and a lot of fun. I won't deny it was amusing to watch you guys slowing figuring them out and guides crop up that were half right and half wrong. smile

There seems to be a lot of debate over the Easter eggs, and plenty of guides popping up with instruction on special things you needed to do to find them. Other than choosing a side and the item grants, this Easter egg scavenger hunt was the same as any other we've done. There was a 10% chance of an egg showing up on almost all the forum pages (event forum or otherwise) and most of the landing pages. I assure you the chances were not different depending on the side and no activities made them show up more often than others, however in some places they were just easier to see.

As an aside the 255 egg cap was a database grant restriction, otherwise we would have made the cap infinite. smile

This may be the first event since I've been with Gaia that we use the actual numbers to decide the victors. Traditionally in events we don't because usually one side gets way more users than the other or because we have a certain story direction we want to go in. This time however we're throwing all that to the wind, minus the grant page that generated a random number that the other team was ahead by (which we did both to encourage the competition and because pulling the actual numbers was resource intensive), we'll be using the real numbers to decide the outcome of this event! ...and yes I'll probably post them somewhere for all to see.

Word is the zOMG! Easter event is still going to happen, looks like they ran into a lot of issues beyond their control that caused them to not launch in time for the holiday. Hopefully any remaining issues will be addressed soon and we can get that out.

So that's about all I have about Easter for now. Back to the drawing board for the next event!

Thank you so much for this event, it's been really fun.

I'm glad they're actually using the real numbers for once. It's a little obvious sometimes that the events are set up to end a certain way. The worst, I can remember, was saving our favourite NPC's shops. Ruby and Liam fans tried really hard to fill those bars, but they were so obviously rigged. I'm glad you're not planning something similar. I'm really intrested to see if E-corp managed to overcome Diedrich's cuteness and win this Easter whee *excited* *excited*

zOMG! Easter events are always brilliant, even late ones xD

lol. I thought the numbers they gave us were screwy XD

We couldn't figure it out at all.

So it was THAT close, eh?

Why not give both sides something?

Thanks for the event again! It was wonderful!

I loved the event. I spent more time on the event than I have in the past few weeks. It was a great thing to draw my attention back into Gaia. It got me posting again. The events, the staff and the creativity keeps me coming back when my interest wans a bit.

Now here's to hoping that the winning team's item isn't soulbound. That'd be the only negative thing about the event from my perspective. And if it isn't, then I'd say it's a flawless event. <3

I knew those numbers were bupkus!

Thanks for letting us know about the appearances of the eggs. So it's based on percentage chance and not really random....that's cool. It'll stop people from saying "luck" this and "unfair" that.

Please continue like this, I enjoyed it! 3nodding

If you didn't get all 255 eggs on the losing team you don't get the fail item?

So, what was the point of the link to your pro in the Dev Notice?

So how many bunnies were there? 44? or 45? Someone had an extra gaming bunny that we couldn't figure out. sweatdrop

Out of a few odd things to do on Gaia, I sort of like Diving into the Dumpster Dive just to see what I'll get - plus I donate. I did miss the trash item so I'm glad you brought it back.

When you left a Dev Alert today, it said read about it here - I hope it is okay to comment here about the DD even though you were talking about the Bunny and Egg hunt.

You are quick - thanks!!
