Daffey's Journal
Anything and everything, won't be daily, could be a load of rubbish...
Saturday - The heaven shop
Deborah Ellis again.
This one's about Africa.
Hell of a lot of issues in this one.
The main one is AIDS and AIDS orphans.
Main character is Binti.
She's not a a "goody-two-shoes" as the saying goes.
Very proud of herself, talks back to siblings and relatives.
It's got some parts that made me so mad!
(How Binti and her older sister get treated by the relatives).
Haven't finished yet, but am almost there.

There is a lion in our village,
and it is carrying away our children.

Binti was the child star of a popular radio program in
Malawi. She always believed she was special, but now she
is nothing. Now she is just another AIDS orphan.

But Binti Phiri is not about to give up. If she and her
brother and sister are to be together, Binti will have to
look outside herself and find a new way to be special.

After having a really good sleep last night I feel much better.
(see previous entry if you don't know what I mean)
Although... when I got up this morning I started listing to the left.
Yep. I think I've got another ear infection on the way.
Hmmmm.
Throat is a bit scratchy and the old athsma is playing up.
That would be because of backburning going on in the area.
I really hope that we don't get bushfires this year.
We (NSW at least) were sort of okay last bushfire season.
I do know other states were badly affected though.
I want to go home.
I want to go home to bed.
I want to go home to bed and sleep.
Sleep would be a nice thing right now.
Preferably dreamless.
Gerome is here today.
Uh, better make that Jerome! Ooops. blaugh
We've been talking about his characters.
You know, Bogan man and Midgey boy.
It's starting to sound more funny than irresponsible.
Hmmmm.
I have a picture of what Bogan man would like like.
My hand itches to pick up a pencil and draw.
But what if it won't work?
What if Jerome dislikes it?
Which reminds me...
Jobs coming up here at work.
They want me to go for one.
I'll fail.
I don't want to go through another bloody interview.
I don't know what to do.
I just found out something.
The patron saint of libraries, librarians & scholars is, wait for it...
Jerome.
How strange, weird, whatever. blaugh
