Chapter 5 redone
Chapter 5

Justin couldn't quite figure out why Charlie was taking him all over the city and showing him different things. She showed him where she worked, her favorite restaurant, a museum, the park she took Liam to all the time, and now they were standing inside an aquarium. He didn't know the world had so many different kinds of sea creatures in it. What he liked most though was the way Charlie's light would light up whenever she was in this place. Apparently, she was in love with the ocean and all the creatures inside of it. He couldn't help but smile when she played some with the kids that were in the little play section they had for younger children. She looked like a little kid herself, but she was enjoying every bit of it.
He seemed to be watching her a lot, but how could he take his eyes off someone like her. She seemed so different from Elisia, different from most women he has ever met in this day and time. Most women were worried about getting screwed and having kids and getting married, but all she worried about was living. She didn't care if she had a lover or not. She didn't care that she was a still a virgin at her age. She didn't really care much about love at all. What she did care about was living and doing things she liked. He liked that about her. That was a quality that Elisia never had.
Unlike Charlie, Elisia had zero patience for anyone of anything. She never really could get along with children because she always thought they were evil little pests that were out to get you all the time. And most the time, all she was worried about was killing all vampires and had several lovers before she met him. The very thought of Elisia now almost meant nothing to Justin, but the small ache in his heart knowing that she'll never come back is still there, and every time he looks at Charlie, he can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, this woman could be Elisia. But he knew now that she wasn't. Charlie could never be anyone but Charlie because, even if she does have Elisia's soul, she's not Elisia. Not one bit of her is like Elisia.
Thinking about all of this made him realize that if she's not the Elisia all the vampires want, them what's the purpose of coming after her? She's just another human woman trying to live her life the way she wants to, a woman who the VS have no interest in. Yet they're after her because she has Elisia's soul and they fear that she may be the same woman she was thousands of years ago. He had to do something about this. Once they find her, they're probably going to torture her and ask her how many vampires she has killed in the past. And when she says she hasn't and that she doesn't know what they're talking about, they'll kill her. Charlie didn't need that.
Justin looked up when there was a slight tap on his shoulder. Charlie was standing in front of him with a couple clear, plastic bowls in her hands that contained some kind of brown sub stance. He arched a brow at it, “What's that stuff?”
Charlie laughed softly, “It's ice cream, silly.” She handed him one of the bowls and a spoon and guided him over to a bench in front of the aquarium entrance. She just watched Justin staring at the bowl cautiously and tried not to laugh as she put a spoon full in her mouth. To her, he was a very odd character, but a very cute one. He was just so quiet and was always watching her as if he had never seen an actual woman go out and enjoy her day. Cocking her head slightly to glance up at him she watched as he took his first bite of ice cream.
He reacted by making a confused face and looking down at her, “It's cold...and wet.” This made Charlie laugh. He was like a little kid discovering how to ride his bike for the first time: eager and confused.
Charlie smiled up at him, “Yes, it's cold, and if you eat too much of it quickly, you'll get, what we like to call it, a brain freeze.” She watched him nod and take another bite before standing up, “Well we better get going before they close. It'll be Hell trying to get out of here at closing hour; too many people rushing to get out and stuff.” She proceeded to eat her ice cream until she got to the entrance and threw the empty bowl away.
Justin followed right behind her and finished his ice cream before she did, throwing his trash away right after she did. He liked the ice cream she gave him, and even though they didn't have much of a conversation, he could see the happiness in her eyes as she watched him eat ice cream for the first time. To him, she seemed more like a teacher and someone who enjoys the happiness of others. She loved making people happy.

After a good, long walk of silence, Charlie turned and stood in front of Justin with a soft smile on her face, “So, Justin, why have you been so sheltered from the world?” She watched him stop and look over her once still determining whether he should tell her his life story or not.
“Well, Charlie, let's just say that my father didn't want me to make another reckless mistake of falling in love with a human again and let her come into my home knowing what my family and I are and betraying us by leading other hunters and humans to our place. So he locked me up in a chamber for several thousands of years and I barely know what anything these days and times are, but cell phones. I know what those are. Marley gave me one in case I need to reach him.” He looked down at her, wondering how someone could be so curious and hold it in so long.
Charlie just nodded, “Is Marley like your best friend or something? I heard you mention his name earlier today when you looked at my cat.”
Justin nodded, “Yes. He is my best friend and little brother. I raised that boy ever since he was born because my father is a selfish b*****d and didn't have time to sit around and raise his new, little 'monstrosity.' Part of his soul happens to be what made your cat what he is because my brother wanted to be sure you were the one with Elisia's soul before telling me. So Liam is in some way a spy, but he has a mind of his own. He can tell Marley basically whatever he feels like telling him, and if he doesn't want my brother knowing certain things, he doesn't have to tell him at all.”
Charlie just nodded, “Okay...I guess that makes a little since.” She was just curious about Justin, and he would tell her anything she wanted to know up to this point, “Did you really love Elisia?” The question came out before she even thought of it and she didn't know she really said it until she noticed he was looking at her as if he was stabbed, “I said that out loud, didn't I?”
He looked away, “Yes you did...and I thought I loved her. She led me on, let me make love to her, gave birth to my son, and then she slept around with the rest of my family. She told me she loved me and that she didn't mean to hurt me like that, but then she had sex with my father, with Gabriel, and that was it. That was the last straw. I had it with her lying ways and I let my father have her...I didn't want anything to do with that little whore anymore than what I had to go through...” He choked on his words a little and clenched his fists, “She even said she'd marry me, but it seems it was fate for us to be apart. I know now what I didn't know then, and as much as I want to love her for what she was, all I can do is hate her.”
“So you're protecting me anyways because I have her soul. Why?” She wanted to know how someone could protect a woman with the same soul as the woman who betrayed him and caused him this kind of pain. It takes a lot of courage to do something like that.
Justin turned back toward her and looked into her eyes, those brilliant green eyes, starting again, “Because you're nothing like her. You are an innocent woman who did not commit the crimes that Elisia has, and you don't deserve what they put her through before they killed her. I won't see it happen again, Charlie. Not to you.”
Those words made Charlie's heart ache. He had been put through so much with Elisia; being betrayed, catching her having sex with other men, watching her die. And yet, he wanted to protect someone who was innocent and had nothing to do with those kind of crimes and still had the soul of the woman who did this to him. For a vampire, he had a big heart. Without even thinking, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly against her. She didn't know why she did it, but she felt she had to, felt he really needed it more than she did.
He just stood there shocked for a moment, but wrapped his arms around her in return. She was so little standing next to him, but she was warm and her body felt so good against his. He rubbed his hand softly up and down her back and stroked her hair as if she'd break if he was too hard on her. She was so soft and her touch was as gentle as she was kind. He could hold her like this forever.
Charlie rubbed her cheek against his shoulder. He felt so cold and tough, as if he was trying hard not to show any emotion toward her. She knew he was trying not to show emotion for her and for the fear of getting hurt again. She turned her head and rested her cheek on his shoulder, whispering softly against his neck, “I'm sorry for what she did to you.”
Justin tightened his grip around her and felt chills run down his spine from the feel of her breath against his skin, “It's not your fault, so don't you worry about it, okay?” He pulled her head back and looked down into her eyes again, then stroked her cheek softly, “You will never be Elisia, you hear me? You are nothing like her.” He could feel his heart beat faster when she smiled softly up at him, knowing now why vampires often fell in love with soft hearted women. They never judged them.
Charlie stood up on her toes and placed her lips to his, kissing him softly and tenderly. She wanted to show him that not everyone was like he remembered and that people aren't always what you expect them to be. She knew now that she was nothing like Elisia and she wanted to prove that she would never betray him.
Justin tensed up and tangled his fingers in the hair at the nape of her neck and pulled her up,deepening the kiss while caressing her cheek with his free hand. God, he wanted her more than ever at that moment, but something inside of him made him pull back and look down at her again. She was so beautiful with her pale skin and soft hair with her face slightly flushed a soft pink. He bent down and kissed her forehead softly before pulling away, “Do you want to go home or are you up to going somewhere else while it's dark?”
She smiled, “You have some place in mind, sweetie?”
“Sure do, love.”

Marley sat crouched up on the top of a building watching his older brother closely. He was now thankful that he made Liam to watch over Charlie because he knew exactly where she was, and tracking down Justin wasn't hard for him to do. He expected nothing less of his brother then to go after Charlie like he did, but he didn't expect to see his brother's soft side once more. There was no doubt that that girl wasn't Elisia because if she was, Justin would have killed her.
He was curious now...
