Poe both expected and didn’t expect Mercury to be so cold. While his daughter went off to her Wonder on the Moon, he decided to try and figure out some more of this Knight thing. If his daughter could do it -- if his sister and her kids could do it, then there was no excuse for him to not at least try.
He’d closed his eyes and repeated the words that came to his mind. The Code must have taken pity on him, because the room he was brought to upon arrival had the spinning orb right there.
The place looked like it had been frozen over, though. More so than he already realized a lot of Mercury already was.
It was a fancy office of sorts. The Code was set in a glass case on a fancy shelf. Or he could only assume it had been a glass case with most of the glass already blown out. He winced, shivered, and glanced around. There were windows in the office, but it looked like they opened up to the large interior of an even larger building. The only way he could describe it was like some of the fancy hotels he’d stayed in during his travels. It was hard to believe people living on Mercury, much less needing a whole building for hundreds of people to stay.
The room looked like it needed a lot of attention. It had both a retro and futuristic vibe to it, and he could see the consoles of what were likely some kind of high tech computer that might have worked if there was any power.
Maybe another time he would come back and try to restore things. For now, he needed to make sure this weakly moving Code piece was fixed.
He sat down at the desk, after brushing off any glass and ice that clung to the chair, and closed his eyes. He didn’t know what he was seeing. There were fish, laughter, lines of code, the clinking of glasses, flowers being pulled apart, bubbles of someone surfacing from under the water, the smell of something delicious and mouthwatering--
When he opened his eyes again, the Code piece seemed a little more peaceful. He didn’t know what it all meant, but he hoped it would be enough.
“Sorry for all of the trouble,” he said, although he didn’t know why he felt the need to say it. He didn’t even know what this place was. What Poe was. Or why he saw the things he did. He hoped Cynthus was doing okay with hers, but she seemed rather confident in her abilities, and he was proud of her for that. He could understand why she wouldn’t want him with her, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t pout about it.
Maybe he could convince her to get sushi with him, and then they could talk. Or she could play on her phone and tell him he was lame. Hopefully, in time, he could prove that he was more than just someone to get in her way.
Before he got up to leave, something glittered in the light of the newly rejuvenated Code piece. Poe reached out to pick up a very pretty signet ring. Knowing this was likely something he was meant to find, he went ahead and put it on.
