Ishani

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Nicknames:
Race: 1/16 Alk - 7/16 Shifter - 8/16 Wind
Physical Description:

Personality:

Ishani is an aloof individual whose stoicism makes her seem cold and dismissive. To those that know her she can be kind, albeit in ways that don't involve words of affection or physical responses. When she's around her sister she may hold her hand or give her mother a wild flower she found particularly pleasing, but Ishani is far from a hugger.

As someone whose grown up on both a farm and on the road, Ishani always tries to stay one step ahead. This can make her seem bull headed and stubborn, especially if what she wants to do goes against the grain, though it doesn't seem to make a difference to her. When she sees something that needs doing she can't just sit by and wait!

History

Ishani and Harlei were born out of their father's desire to start a family. She's always been told that they were a gift to their father and while Rajani is their mother she is a friend to Hargitt as opposed to a lover. The two share no romantic feelings, but rather a close kinship that has made their family strong in unconventional ways.

Interesting Facts
-headbutts when angry
-has a keen sense of smell; if it doesn't smell right to her she'll avoid it at all costs (ex. foods, people, her father after a long hunt, etc)

Prentice Solo 1

It was another cloudy night, but Ishani still found her way to the rooftop. The inn her family was staying in was one of an older design with it’s walls made of thick timbers and hardened stone. Unlike some of the more luxurious establishments in Zidel this space was reserved for travelers and huntsman, leaving little to catch the eye. She’d heard more than a few passing jabs at the veritable hovel while she shopped for supplies earlier in the day, but Ishani knew better. The older couple who ran it were kind people that made sure all who came in left with a full belly and a smile. There were few like that in the world and fewer still this far North.

Discrimination against hybrids wasn’t nearly so common in places of commerce as it was in the backwater villages they frequented. At least, it wasn’t so openly talked about. Ishani had grown up with odd looks being tossed her way, only for the critical eye to then be passed onto Harlei. At first glance her sister could have passed for a pure Sautian, but even if her traits were more subtle the girl was no less a target. Their parents could only shield them for so long and honestly, Ishani was grateful that they hadn’t shied away from the brutalities of life. There were always going to be moments where she was hated for simply living, but then there were moments when little grandmothers with their hands gnarled from age reached up to touch her skin, a blooming smile on their faces because it reminded them of moonlight.
Zenans were a proud bunch; prouder still to keep their blood pure and closer to Chi than anyone else. While she’d seen her fair share of hybrids during their time around Zidel it wasn’t nearly so a high number that she felt safe. In the sticks she was just a soul with working arms who could pull her own weight, regardless of her blood, but in the city…Well, she was unwanted proof that the ‘outside’ was changing. Changes that many in power didn’t necessarily like but that’s why she’d never planned on staying here from the start.

And then Harlei changed and the family did have to stay. At least until her sister was comfortable with her new identity. Why was it, that out of the two of them, the one who could blend the easiest was the one who changed? Ishani didn’t dare bring it up, especially since it would have only upset Harlei more, but the question ran around in her mind. It just…in so many ways it felt unfair, that she was given a fresh start, but then just as quickly she would feel guilty for it. The face that she saw every morning when she woke was the same as it had been when she slept so why should she complain?

But could anyone tell her it was wrong? As a cold wind pulled against her skin, Ishani tucked her legs up underneath her and sighed. “What’s wrong with me?” She murmured. Did she actually want to change? Not really. Or maybe? Urgh, it was so frustrating! She could have pulled her hair out from the stress of it or cry or just…sit back to watch clouds.

The sky was so dark it was hard to make out anything. She could hear distant sounds of creatures roaming the nearby lands, but Ishani couldn’t see one. If she’d been camping she might have kept a bow ready, but here…Goddess, here if she’d had one the guard would be called on her. It was hard enough for her parents to walk out in public with their gear let alone a pair of young girls. Just because the children of Zidel couldn’t hold their own in a fight didn’t mean she couldn’t.

And that was the thing, wasn’t it? That just because they couldn’t fight through the monsters of the world didn’t mean she couldn’t. Ishani was strong and she knew it. She’d been wrestling with her sister since the womb, fighting against wild roati, and besting her cousins everytime they visited the farm. It didn’t erase the insecurities she felt when an older pure blood would curl their lip, but it gave her pride and that went a long way. Strength of mind was something she needed to work on, but Ishani knew without a doubt that if she walked away from her family that instant that she would be safe. She knew the wilds of Sauti and Zena. The teenager had been taught what plants were safe to touch, which weren’t, what areas to avoid, who to talk to, where best to hit a man to bring him down, etc. What she lacked in social skills she more than made up for with her survival prowess. And honestly? That’s all she needed.

Looking up, Ishani saw that the moon was finally starting to peek out through the clouds. The sight was an odd one, considering how thick the cloud cover had been, but in moments the sky was bright safe for that looming moon. It felt as if her mother’s goddess was smiling down on her, acknowledging a wayward soul that was starting to make a path for herself, and Ishani couldn’t help feeling some internal relief.

Life was hard now but it wouldn’t always be that way. She just needed to have hope.

Prentice Solo 2

Information about the group who had attacked her was hard to come by. Those that knew of the cloaked thieves were varied at best and even the ones who were willing to admit that the group existed had no desire to spill any of their secrets. Every time she felt that she’d come a little closer to nabbing her assailant Ishani was pushed two steps back, and it was beyond frustrating. If she were a little stronger, a little smarter, with a few more connections then maybe she could find out who they were. No one could even tell her if this was an organized group or just a bunch of hooligans!
With yet another door slammed in her face, Ishani huffed and walked back out onto the street. Her parents were already looking into other jobs which meant they wouldn’t even be in Zidel for much longer. So many others had told her to just let it go; that as a traveler it wasn’t her concern and wouldn’t affect her once she left the city. And yet, Ishani just couldn’t. That man, the sorcerer, was so ready to kill his own people for a satchel of gold and it didn’t make sense. The longer she thought about it the more the idea of going that far out of their way for a scrap of coin spoke of desperation which meant their actions were only going to escalate. She’d seen it in so many creatures over the years. When a drought came on or a heavy snow they would do anything to survive. What if he decided to blow up a store front next? Or take someone hostage?

She’d only been attacked because she gave chase, but what if the next person was just minding their business. What if it was a frail old man or a young girl? It just didn’t settle well with her.

“Excuse me, Miss?”

Ishani turned to see a smaller head poking out of the very same door that had been shut in her face just moments prior. The boy couldn’t have been older than six with eyes nearly as big as his ears and thick, round cheeks. I hope he grows into those. If he didn’t…well, Ishani hoped he became very rich to compensate.

“Yeah?”

Looking over his shoulder, the boy seemed to hesitate before gingerly walking out to meet her and as quiet as possible he pulled the door close. “I know who you’re asking about. The hybrid sorcerer?”

“Really?” Try not to look too excited. Stay calm. In Ishani’s attempt to play it cool her countenance came across as snarly, which had the effect of making the boy stick closer to the door. “Why didn’t you say anything earlier?”

“Papa would have been mad.” Ah, so fear then. “He’s….uhm, he’s from Eia and he goes back there when winter hits. You might find him there? I don’t think he’s in the city anymore.”

Eia? From what Ishani knew of the landscape it was a secluded village, cut off from others because of the mountains and the only way to get there was through Coeld. What was someone from Eia doing in Zidel? There were so many questions popping around in her brain that Ishani could scarcely think straight.

“And you’re sure about this? Your dad isn’t just trying to shoo me away?”

“No, no, I’m sure. He’s…He’s my cousin, so I know he lives there.” And when Ishani tried to ask more questions the boys fear got the better of him. He reached back for the door, more eager than ever to get away. “T-that’s all, gotta go.”

And just like she’d been given a lead. Either the father was just trying to cover for his nephew’s bad behavior or the boy had straight out lied to her. Either way it gave the teen something to mull over for the rest of the day.

Class Choice Solo - Guard [Berserker]

Ishani had been obsessed with finding her prey from the moment she’d been given the first bit of information. He was a hybrid from Eia, but evidently he had connections within Zidel because the clasp on his cloak was too fine not to have come from wealth. So where did that leave her? Without any other leads in the city Ishani knew where she needed to go, but getting there would be a trip all it’s own. She would need supplies, time to heal, and worst of all – she would need to tell her parents.

There was no doubt in her mind that they wouldn’t expect something like this. With the way they’d raised their daughters it was evident that one day they would branch off and go on about their own lives, but actually leaving was another concept entirely. How could she tell them? So many others her own age were still content to travel with their loved ones, and Ishani would have been if it hadn’t have been for him. But something in her had changed the day of the attack, something that Anahita had stoked further with her investigation and now Ishani had a purpose.

She didn’t feel right leaving Harlei behind, especially given all that her sister had gone through recently, but she hoped she would understand. Besides, it wasn’t as if this would be forever; after she brought this man to justice she was going to come back.

Right?

That was the original plan, but a little nagging part of Ishani wondered if she would follow through with it. She was already getting itchy following her parents orders, so maybe playing by her own rules for a while wouldn’t hurt? She could strike out, take a few jobs of her own, have her own gold and – then what? Where would she go? Where would she stay? Life on the road could be a hard one, harder still if she dipped into the wilds and there had been days that tested her family as a group let alone one girl.

I have to do it.

If she was ever going to sharpen her skills she needed to be able to do so alone. She couldn’t always rely on her sister to be at her side, or her mother to defend her against strangers or her father to sniff out their next meal. While she didn’t relish the idea of leaving them behind Ishani felt a bubble of excitement cropping up inside of her. This was going to be the first time she’d taken the lead and it felt good. Maybe if she found the mage and took him down she would get a reward? Not that it was the only reason she was taking him on, but it wouldn’t hurt, would it? A little extra coin in her purse?
Strengthening her resolve, Ishani took a deep breath and started formulating a plan in her head. The first thing she wanted to look into before leaving was the purchase of a new bow. If she wanted to do anything off grid she needed one at her side and the tiny thing she’d always used to practice with just wouldn’t do. She needed something sturdy; something she could use in quick succession and put up when the fighting got too rough.

And more importantly, something her family wouldn’t notice until the moment was right. If they found out before she was ready to move on Ishani didn’t know if she’d be able to leave. Or maybe, just maybe, she would. Shaking her head, the teenager pushed her insecurities back and focused on the task at hand.

needed one and honestly Ishani already had the basics down, but there was something in the way her mother fought that called out to her more. The raw power that Rajani exuded made Ishani wonder if that same strength didn’t call out to her too. Maybe that was what she was lacking? Maybe if she’d been faster on her feet, stronger with her throws, then wouldn’t have been overpowered so easily?

She would always have her basic weaponry at hand if she needed it, but to do what she wanted Ishani would need more training than that. She needed to take what she already had, laying deep within her soul, and channel it into something greater. The girl was as strong as any kid raised to haul great bales of, but looking down at her arms she knew one thing to be certain; she had no idea how to properly use that.

Both of her parents fought with weapons and she’d always just assumed she would be the same, but it didn’t sit well with Ishani. So, maybe that was it then. She needed to make use of her unorthodox features and turn it into an unorthodox fighting style instead. If she could find a teacher in Zidel, at least for the little bit they were there, then maybe she could practice on the road and by the time she actually tracked the mage down it would be her fist that would connect with his face!

Now that made sense to her. If she was fast enough he couldn’t hit her and if her punches were strong enough she’d be able to knock him down without a thought.

Absolutely brilliant.

Getting her affairs in order under her parents nose hadn’t been easy and eventually Ishani was found out. Things in the family had been tense ever since the night of Harlei’s change, but steadily things were growing calmer- until Hargitt discovered Ishani’s map. She’d made notes all along the edges of the tattered, worn thing marking every stop from Zidel to Eia and every person she might want to contact.

That had, of course, led to many an indepth discussion, but in the end it had been the best thing for her. She’d been able to be truthful about her decision which led to more physical training with her father. After all, the man was a hulking behemoth and he hadn’t kept those muscles by sheer force of will. Every morning she woke before the sun to do first exercises with him, then their daily chores, then the chores with her sister, more exercises and by the goddess her muscles ached.

By the time they were ready to sit down to dinner in the evenings Ishani was already half asleep. She would find a warm place to bundle up in, eat as much as they made her, and knock out before even taking her hair down. In the beginning the long days took their toll; her already pale skin was paler still and dark blue circles appeared under her eyes. It’s going to be worth it, right? It has to be.

Day by day Ishani noticed little changes. Her body wasn’t fighting her as much to wake up at the earlier hours, and trading blows with her father came easier. There were still so many times that she woke up on the ground with blood on her lip, but when Hargitt was done with her it was Rajani’s turn and by the spirits if she got hit with that hammer again-

It’s going to be worth it. The sooner she built up her strength the faster she could travel. Instead of dealing with her hair Ishani had taken to cutting it herself with a small, dull dagger which gave the strands a ragged look, and the one time a man in town commented on it she decided that day to shave bits of it. At one point in her life she’d wanted to look ‘cute’ – just as pretty as her mother and any of the other finer ladies in Zidel – but that had been before she was teased for her hybrid blood. Now she wanted to be strong – strong enough to make them eat stone when she knocked them to the ground and ripped the pins from their hair to stab into their pretty little eyes.

Now when she passed by a river or a shop window Ishani barely recognized herself. She was growing into herself as not only a fighter but as a woman. Day by day the teenager was filling into her height, as well as her muscles and the scrappy thing that had been shot at in the backstreet was no longer visible. She couldn’t help but to smirk. ‘Dainty’ had never been a word she used to describe herself, but there was once a time that Ishani wanted that life. Pretty dresses, lovely jewelry, and a nice home. She’d heard about it enough to romanticize it until reality hit her. Her mother had all of those things – minus a permanent home – and she could level a city with her hammer.

So, that’s exactly what Ishani was going to do. She was going to take full advantage of the gifts bestowed upon her by her parents and make the best of it.
