User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name: Aleksi Fortescu
Stage: 2 - Mage (Sorcerer Route)
Race: Lightning/Matori
Gender: Male
Orientation: Plotted

Base Traits: Playful // Loyal // Daring

Personality: Aleksi "Alek" was mostly raised without a care in the world. His parents were loving and creative people which only furthered his own playful antics. He's a loyal friend who will guard others he deeply cares for but at the same time it's not uncommon for him to pull a harmless prank here and there to mess around. If anyone outside of his family has priority over anything in Alek's life it would be Eliazer who he treats just like a brother and is super protective of. Also, if anyone would be involved with Alek's pranks it would be Eliazer since the pair are mostly inseparable especially at school.

He's also not one to back down from a fight and would be the friend to back up someone who is plotting something rather than simply talking them out of it - unless of course he has a much better plan. It's not always the best thing since he can easily get into trouble for such behavior depending on what he agrees to help with, especially in terms of pranks. Despite the risks and previous punishments, Alek never backs down from a challenge and will always be up for expanding his horizons, his love for stories making him more and more intrigued about the world outside of Belrea, especially Matori where his mother was born.

History: Alek's father, Tulasidas "Tula" Fortescu, is a well known writer from the Belrean Academy while his mother Lirita was a lesser known Matori who had traveled to Belrea for a better life. While Tula often visited the Entertainment Sector to watch his plays being performed the man was surprised to see a Matori woman working on a set during one of his after performance tours. He had stopped mid-sentence while giving advice some of the actors to stare at the woman, his interest taken almost immediately at first sight of the strange, beautiful earthling. It was not long after that he made certain to swing around the Entertainment Sector more and more often, his visits becoming more obvious to those working backstage as Lirita was often gifted little tokens and flowers from her admirer. Originally Tula believed his fascination was with learning more about the Matori and the Tendaji continent so that he could better write about the new world but eventually he realized that his fascination with Lirita went far beyond such reasoning and soon enough he found himself confessing his feelings and marrying the woman.

Raising a family, however, would mean that Tula would have to pluck himself from his more nomadic lifestyle and decide upon a permanent residence within the city. Whereas the man previously roamed the continent to develop his stories he found himself focused on settling down and spending time with his wife. During this time Lirita worked on honing her own artistic talents and soon enough a small pottery studio was set up within the city for her to produce her own works while her husband continued writing his plays and poetry. Eventually despite several attempts they finally had a child but Lirita found her own health growing more delicate afterwards and it was then that Tula found out about Eudora and her own child. Needing the help around his home and also having a soft spot for an old friend he made a deal with her that she could clean his house while he funded her child's education, a decision which resulted in Alek's close friendship with Eli and his own interest in learning sign-language so that he could better communicate with the mute Geian boy.

As a child Aleksi enjoyed watching his father's plays whenever he could and he didn't mind staying home with his mother for a majority of his childhood and learning from her. While his father did eventually pick up traveling again Aleksi didn't mind staying behind so that he could learn pottery from his mother whose health had started to become more fragile since his difficult birth forcing her to stay indoors and sometimes in bed more often than not. Over the years he started showing more that his charismatic and daring personality took after his father while his more delicate beauty and grace was more reminiscent of his mother. Thankfully those blended traits helped him to charm his way into the hearts of others and he found himself for the most part capable of getting along with most who would rather question him about his mother's history and home country than fight with him because he was a hybrid. Alek had learned a lot about spinning stories from his father after all and would wow the others with dramatic stories of the ocean islands with giant creatures that could destroy a whole town....whether exaggerated or not it was still all good fun to the rest of the younglings who enjoyed his company. Eventually as he grew older and Eudora and Eli entered his life the boy found himself forming a close bond with the other boy and actually started focusing more on his formal education so that he could better understand him - something which proved admirable and yet dangerous as it allowed the two boys to plot more without others knowing exactly what it was that they discussed with sign language.

♥ Sorcerer Path ♥

Alek knew he was in trouble the first moment that he set the curtains on fire. Initially he had just been playing around with some candles, his fascination with the candles coming from the fact that an earlier outburst had seemingly made the flames flicker more so than usual, and after a few attempts he found that he could indeed make the flames stronger. While he lived in a land of science there was no doubting the existence of magic in the world and his father’s stories along with his mother’s heritage only strengthened his desire to learn more about the mystical arts. What if that could be his calling? Or at least that was what he was thinking now that he had actually witnessed something happening simply because he willed it. Alek originally had thought it had been a mistake, a trick of the mind created by his tired gaze and the shifting sunlight, but the more he tried the more the flames seemingly reacted to his very presence. It was a great discovery and he had raised his hands in victory before accidentally knocking into the table and causing the already sensitive flames to react to his distress, their hunger reaching towards the curtains and feeding their growth. “Oh no! No, no, no and no!” Alek quickly dove towards the curtains and started to hit them with his palms, his expression pained as he realized that he had surely caused some burns along his skin in his haste. Thankfully though he had managed to rip the draperies down and had stomped the flames into oblivion. He just had to calm down first and breathe deeply before causing any more damage today. A sigh left Alek’s lips as he studied the charred draperies, the deep green now twisting into more of a darker color that ended in black at the completely burned edges. That was going to cost him at least a couple of weeks worth of allowances. At least it had not taken down the whole house or his father would have his rear end but his mother’s disappointment would be the worst. Another sigh escaped him as he tried to fold the mess into a slightly more tidy pile. Not that it would lessen the damage of course but at least he put some effort into things. Maybe he could have just thrown it away but he was worried that throwing it away could get someone else in trouble. Also, it was fairly noticeable that the windows were missing draperies considering how much sunlight poured into the room without them. His father would return home and immediately notice the discrepancy in his favorite study, a place that Alek probably shouldn’t have been messing with in the first place. Needless to say the next half hour was a frenzy as he made certain to clean ash out from the carpet and ran back and forth debating what to do with the charred remains of the draperies. Hopefully they weren’t too expensive...it wasn’t as if he had destroyed his father’s favorite vase or something. He had only ever done that once and it was a gift from some distant cousin on his father’s side that they didn’t ever see anyways.

Later when Alek told his mother she would stifle a laugh and then tell him that it was okay since accidents happened. She would help to hide the mess and order new draperies before his father returned home from his work travels. In the meantime it was best if he started studying up on his new abilities and quickly learned to control them before gods forbid the library fell prey to a bad temper next. It was only to be expected since Lirita had an uncle who had acted as a sorcerer for their home village back in Matori. “You’ll learn to manage in time. Perhaps Belrea has tutors for magicians? I know they believe strongly in alchemy and technology but surely there’s some natural magic to be found in this country.” She mused as they sat together in the art studio and worked on pottery. “Tula will just have to grow accustomed to strange things happening in this family. I would not be surprised if he asks you for inspiration later for new stories and plays.” She teased lightly as she glanced over at her son.

“Uh huh. At least he wasn’t here to witness the fire in the study.” Alek rolled his eyes though a grin crossed his lips. “You really think I should learn to be a sorcerer then? Not a scholar like my father?”

“A child does not always have to follow the path of their parents.” Replied Lirita as she twisted coils on top of one another to form a simple vase. “Also, who says that you cannot do things other than simply magic? You’re talented and smart when you’re not getting into trouble so why not pick up a trade on top of being a sorcerer?”

“Fair.” Alek wrinkled his nose though as he thought about all of the extra work. “I suppose I’ll just have to see what the future holds for me. Either way I’m definitely going to find some sort of mentor before I do one day set the library on fire and get disowned by my father.” He could just imagine destroying all of those precious books and not getting allowances for the rest of his life. His father would probably also kick him out of the house until he found a way to purchase all of the books again which included some limited first editions and ancient tomes of plays recorded long ago before Belrea probably even knew what a lamp was. Just the very thought sent a shiver down Alek’s spine and he shook his head. No, it was definitely best that he learned quickly before anything too chaotic occurred. So it seemed that he was going to become a sorcerer just like his mother’s uncle. Maybe even one day he would venture into Matori and explore that side of his mother’s life even if she didn’t seem to think that the country was worth returning to. Alek was not a fool and he had learned in his classes a bit about the other countries and the wars that had shaped them so long ago. It was crazy to think how one could have been owned by another and the very thought made him frown with disdain. Maybe his mother was in the right to move to Belrea and leave it all behind after all. Even in a changing world there surely was still some tension amongst some living there and he could already imagine the darkness that waited around every corner, the underground markets that surely existed as some even did in Belrea just for different things other than slavery.

Yes, it was probably best that he learned more at the academy first and unlocked more of his hidden potential for magic. Maybe once that was done he could travel overseas and even see if Eli was crazy enough to go over there with him. Just the thought of separating from his childhood friend made Alek’s stomach twist with uncertainty. Consider him spoiled but he was always used to having another at his side and he didn’t like the idea of going alone. He would just have to hope that someone was willing to teach him here in the city instead of him having to venture somewhere far away. The comforts of home were simply too good to leave behind after all.

“Careful or you’ll break your work.” His mother interrupted Alek’s thoughts with her gentle voice. “You’re twisting the clay too much.” She advised with a glance towards his hands which had been slowly tightening around the delicate art with each and every thought about magic and the future. Her own simple piece was mostly finished while Alek had just been rotating his own over and over in his hands instead of properly shaping it. If he wasn’t careful he would have air pockets which would cause the piece to blow up in the kiln, a thought that made yet another sigh escape his lips. Oh, bugger.

“Thank you.” Alek stated quietly with a soft flush to his cheeks before making certain to focus on his work. It would be a shame to both destroy the draperies and his own piece of pottery in the same afternoon. He just needed to relax and not worry about the future just yet. All he knew was that he did have magic but it could be brought under control once he found a tutor and studied more. He was already in school so what harm would more studying do? If anything his family would probably be delighted and think that it could help keep him out of more trouble. The very thought made Alek chuckle as he returned his focus onto his piece and continued working on it until it too was ready for the kiln.

♥ Growth ♥

[This is Aleksi’s first time truly realizing that he may lose his mother soon and that he won't be able to rely on her forever. The thought is sobering and has placed him on a path to try and be more mature about his actions as he decides to start taking studying more seriously so that he can find his future path and be more helpful to his family, especially his mother.]

“Have you ever considered your future career?”

The very question brought a sigh to Aleksi’s lips. Even though they were seniors in an academy it didn’t mean he wanted to think about taking on responsibilities like working and the like. Couldn’t he just live at home and do as he pleased for a few more years at least? He had grumbled all afternoon about the lectures, the fairs trying to get everyone into a Belrean sector and how at odds he felt with everything considering his lax attitude and mixed heritage. If it was up to him then he’d never take anything too seriously after all. Still, it was one thing to grumble about it and another thing to arrive home to find his mother passed out at the foot of the stairs. Panic rose in Aleksi’s chest as he darted towards his mother and yelled for help. Was no one home?

“Mother!” Aleksi kept pleading with her until he finally managed to pick her up and help her to a chaise in the living room. His eyes burned with tears as he paced around, his worry about leaving her alone rising with every moment. Should he run to the doctor’s office or should he stay? The teen had gotten a damp cloth from the kitchen and continued gently patting at the Matori’s flushed face with it. He just had to bring down the fever and help her through this spell. Surely someone else would come, right? His chest tightened at the thought as his mind kept thinking about how she could simply fade away while he waited for anyone to return to the house. If she’s not better by morning I’ll call for the doctor. He kept reassuring himself though his attention was fully taken with worry for his mother. At least in the morning Eliazer’s mother would arrive to clean the house and he could run to the doctor then while leaving someone with his mother to keep an eye on her. But would it be too late by then? What if he lost her because he didn’t know what to do now? Why was he so helpless?!

Lirita!” Aleksi blinked in surprise as his father suddenly appeared in his moment of desperation. Something like air whooshed out of his lungs as he remembered to breathe and he helped his father as he carried the frail Matori woman up the stairs and placed her in bed. “Call the doctor, Aleksi.” His father commanded him once she was settled and with a nod Aleksi took off. Needless to say the next few days were very tense around the house as the doctor basically lived with his family so that he could keep an eye on his mother. She was sickly for certain and Aleksi wasn’t allowed to know the details just yet but even he knew that things were turning worse at home. Just the fear from nearly losing his mother that night and the rush to get the doctor was enough to finally push the teen to think about what he should do moving forward. He didn’t want to be helpless like that. He had seen the way his father had handled things and for once Aleksi realized he did feel inspired by the man. For years he had been at odds with Tula because of the writer’s distance as he got absorbed so much into his work but that night Aleksi felt an actual relationship between them. Helping his father take care of his mother had awakened something within him that Aleksi was determined to embrace.

“I suppose it’s time to go and talk to that mentor about accepting those classes.” He had put things off for long enough and it was finally time to truly start applying himself and learn more so that he could take care of himself so that he could finally help those he cared for instead of relying on them for everything.
