Aleksi truly was in no mood to entertain strangers today. The teen had already gotten a tongue lashing from a mentor and was constantly struggling with the flux of magic that ignited everything around him. He remembered his mother’s advice that he simply had to calm down his emotions, something that was rather troublesome for a teen with plenty of energy and mood swings to boot, but he desperately tried to abide by things. Don’t let them see you yell or scream and just smile the tears away. Aleksi kept repeating over and over in his mind as he struggled through his school days. Said emotions were already ramping up as he heard someone gasping behind him and he had the strangest sensation that he was the target of the attention, something that didn’t truly surprise him whenever he decided to go further in the city than usual. While those in his neighborhood and class had gotten more accustomed to seeing his hybrid features it was definitely shocking for others who had just come into the city or simply hadn’t ever seen him before.

Kaimana was finding himself more comfortable the longer they stayed in Belrea. While the expedition was preparing for another journey from Belrea the Matori had opted to spend his final day out in one of the busiest streets in the capital. While he had expected to see all sorts of interesting inventions and different merchandise from what he could normally see in Oba, the Matori was actually surprised to see something even more interesting than all of that. “Really?” Kaimana couldn’t help but to let out a little gasp of surprise as he noticed a hybrid walking along the street with finned ears. Someone with Matori blood was living here?! Even though he was a young teen the Matori could only imagine how quickly his parents must have gotten together with the introduction of Belrea to their world.
Of course his distraction resulted in him bumping into another earthling who let go of their groceries with a curse, the contents spilling out and rolling across the street to hit the back of said hybrid’s shoes.

Oh great. It seemed there was someone making trouble behind him. At first, he had hoped to simply walk away today but the sudden impact of fruit against his legs made him pause with a sigh. So much for that idea. Alek couldn’t help but to grumble as he reached down to pick up the fruits.

“I’m so sorry!” Kaimana kept apologizing as he reached down to try and gather all of the fruits back into the basket for the flustered geian. The poor woman probably was already having a bad day with how frazzled she appeared and now this! Kaimana felt his cheeks darken even more as his fingers crossed with the hybrid’s and he found himself pausing before gathering up the last few pieces of fruit.

A Matori? Aleksi found himself intrigued yet still a bit disgruntled with the whole situation. “Here.” He finished picking up the final pieces of fruit and returned the basket to the geian woman, “Don’t worry about it.” He brushed off his pants as if disregarding the whole situation before gesturing towards the foreigner. “If anything you should let this guy know if you need fresh fruit.”

“Oh yes!” Kaimana found himself nodding at the boy’s words. “I can gather you a whole basket if you need.” He offered towards the woman who blinked at him before shaking her head. “Are you certain?” He tried again before flushing as she shook her head once more and waved him along.
“It’s fine.”
Kaimana would want to perhaps blame it on a bad day but her attitude did brush against him a little bit. A sigh left his lips as the Geian hurried along her way and he found himself almost rolling his eyes. “You would think she was the top of the Academy or somethin’.” Kaimana breathed before reaching for a lone fruit that had been discarded in the woman’s rush.

Despite his irritation a laugh escaped Aleksi’s lips at the comment. “Right?” He breathed as he watched the figure retreating around the corner. “I’m sure she just had a rough day but seriously….you’d think we had set fire on the street or something.” He shook his head before straightening up and fixing his shirt. At least that was over with. Now came the question of what to do next. Did he just scurry away as well? That’s not really my style indeed.

“Maybe we should have.” Quipped back Kaimana with a grin towards the boy. “I would love to see if she could run away any faster.” The Matori shook his head before pausing to study the boy once more. “I’m sorry but I can’t help asking...you have Matori blood, right?” If Kaimana had never been to Belrea before now then he would be tempted to think that there was a race similar to his own living out here, but he knew better because of his experience.

Now that was a tempting thought! Aleksi flushed though when he realized that commentary was a bit too close to his recent experiences. Fire after all seemed to go hand in hand with his newly discovered talents. The next question only made him roll his eyes as he glanced over at the Matori. “Do you think?” He quipped with a raised brow. “Whatever would give you that impression?”

“Perhaps the finned ears.” Kaimana finally replied after a drawn out look, almost as if he were searching for whatever gave it away, “But then again I’m not quite certain. Just something seemed to scream Matori to me.” He tapped at his own ears before noting the spots along the boy’s face as well.

A chuckle left Aleksi’s lips before he shook his head. “Oh? Maybe it’s just a fashion trend.” He teased in turn to the man’s own sarcasm. “Surely you’ve seen plenty more people out here with teal hair and finned ears, right?” Totally not an obvious trait for a hybrid. Aleksi resisted the urge to roll his eyes again as he waited for the man’s response.

“A painful one if so.” Kaimana finally let out a laugh before raising his hands in defeat. “Alright, alright. I’m sorry for such a stupid and obvious question. You just took me by surprise, that’s all.” The Matori shifted so that he could hold out a hand towards the teen, “Sorry for the flurry of fruit and then questions. I suppose I owe you an introduction, my name is Kaimana.”

“Aleksi.” The teen took Kaimana’s hand and gave it a firm shake in greeting. “Interesting to see another Matori in the city that’s not my mother.” He offered with a grin. “What brings you here?” If the other man could ask questions then certainly he could as well.

Ah, so it was his mother that brought the Matori blood. “Nice to know that I’m not the only one here at least.” Teased Kaimana with a grin. “I’m here with an expedition so technically there’s even more foreigners than simply little ole me.”

“An expedition?” Aleksi’s gaze widened with interest. “What are they investigating? Last time I checked Belrea was more civilized and less likely to be full of treasures and surprises.” He quipped back as he studied the Matori. The man definitely seemed tough, there were a few scars now that he looked closely and muscles there that attested to a history of training and fighting.
