Personality:
Suspicious - Rydan is unlikely to trust people right away as he does not have an extroverted personality. He has learned to be quite cautious around people that don't look like him and that is almost everyone considering his mix. But will be more likely to trust some sort of hybrid like himself over a pure blood who may or may not be out to get him.

Calm - Rydan decidedly does not have a hyper or outgoing personality, he prefers to be in the quiet, studying things in a peaceful setting in his down time over harrassing people or talking. Sometimes talking gets on his nerves. But if a person can convince him to come out of his shell the results may be surprising.

Pensive - In short a thinker, but not nessessarily about deep things, just many random light topics. He is less likely to care about social issues or what color he is wearing than how kinfa see the world when they fly into a tree.

History: Rydan was born to Ai'iandaroch an ice/alk hybrid and Myrida a pure shifter woman. He met his two closest friends (Ruulu and Tsallin) at a young age and has gone on many adventures with them as he grows. Tsallin gave him his kinfa Tartarus who has been the greatest gift to the someone lonely little boy.

Ry wants to become a rider one day but beyond that he is not sure how he wants to live his life. He has yet to come into his own as a young man and remains more cautious than not.

Currently he resides with his crew in Matori, but they are prone to travel at a moments notice for training or a change of scenery.

Rydan was playing by himself on the beach making more of a sand fortress than a sand castle. It was in depth, it was planned, it was going to be magnificent when he was through. It was based off a Matori myth his father had told him. During ancient times there had been an underwater city of pyramids for a special group of Matori who never needed to come up for air, they could just stay under water all the time, like magic! Although according to Da, it wasn't magic, disapointingly, something about gills and a tail, which was still pretty cool in his opinion, nobody he knew had a tail. Anyway the people in this city were super happy because there were too many of them for predators to bother with trying to eat anyone. A condition that Rydan wished applied to land as well, but anyway, they had all this time on their hands now that they didn;t have to run away all the time, so what they did was find ocean treasure and brought it back to their city. Whole houses and a very large treasure room were filled with beautiful things. Just accumulating. Rydan wondered why such a thing wasn't possible on land. But he had been too interested in the sotry at the time to ask. Eventually the pure water Matorians ded out, perhaps scared onto land by an unforseen foe, or they moved on into other oceans in any case the city full of riches was left alone and uncharted in the middle of the deep, supposedly at the bottom of the bay they lived beside. He personally didnt understand why they had left all of that treasure behind, his father tried to explain that once you had too much of one particular item, it lost its value. Rydan rather thought that the more you had of that item then the richer you were. Dad just didn't make sense sometimes. Still, he wanted to see this huge treasure, what must it be like to see it in person. He had dreams about it, but he didn't know what the treasure was, so it was all shadows from what he could remember.

Rydan was chasing little fish at a creek waterfall while his father watched pensively from nearby. These little gems were realted to the menk he thought, that his father said lived in Jauhar. These had fancy fins too but lived in the brackish water near the beach. He had watched them feast n the riches that the tide brought in. They were feisty too, chasing the hermit ccrabs into their shells, they would eat them if they did not move fast enough. Rydan loved to watch them, and now he found that he liked chasing them too, small, bright swirls of fins wiggling away from him as fast as their little fishy butts could go. So he pitted his own wits and agility against theirs and so far after an hour had only gotten wet for his efforts. At one memorable moment he slipped and fell on his butt in the water. Accompanied by his Father's chuckles he got back on his feet and shook himself off, running a hand through his pale hair, so different from his Father's. In a way they were the same but inverse of each other. Light and dark, tall and short, but the same, with antennae and iceling skin. His sister bore the alkidike markings while he had gotten his Mother's crystals only. He and his sister were such an interesting mix. Kind of like these fish, the colors seemed endless. His father had told him that these ones likely coudnlt be tamed, but the menk elsewhere could. Maybe he would raise, breed and sell menk when he grew up. It sounded like a fun time. For now though he just barely managed to corner a black fish wtih red fins in a place where it could not escape, he had won. He helf the small fish in small hands, watching it dart about frantically, in the palm of his hand, feelin the littel bumps as it tried to escape. He waited patiently for the menk like creature to calm down before releasing it back into the water under the calm eyes of his father. Hee felt pride in that gaze and he wondered why that was. It wasn't like he was going to eat a fish that small after all, he just wanted to show it that he meant it no harm after he had caught it. He had a feeling his Motther would murderlize him if he had hurt the fish, besides he didnt want to hurt tthe prettty thing.

Rydan slowly coaxed Tartarus out of his grumpy depressed shell. He spent all of his time with the creature slowly replacing memories of the bird's wild life with that of his partnership with it. He hoped to soon progress to wild walks with Tartarus, letting him explore his new world properly, it being so different from the Tale. He wanted Tartarus to be as naturalized as possible to help reduce the stress caused by removal from the nest that early.

It would take a lot of patience to work through the trust issues, but kinfa riders could not afford to be on shaeky ground. As a mistake or miscommunication in the air owuld be fatal. He spent hours looking for likely Jahauran delicacies, special insects and small reptiles to tempt his new partner. He cooked some for himself on his parents campfire. He hoped he was doing the right things. But one could never be sure with no one to guide him at every step.

So he went slowly , being sure to groom the bird at night, putting a focus on treats and a varied diet. His Father watched him often with a bemused expression on his face. Rydan didn't wonder about it, just moved about his buisness, like no one was watching. Soon he was able to touch the kinfa without fear of being bitten, but no one else was; neighbors, siblings and even parents were warded of with ruffled feathers, hissing and if the above failed, biting. Rydan was impressed with the selective loyalty. It was a great confidence booster for him to have come so far so fast with his friend.

Soon though he began to feel a tug, a tug to find other people who had kinfa and the closest ones to his age that he knew were in fact Tsallin and Ruulu. But they were not where he had last seen them, he thought that maybe they had decided to visit their homes. In the wake of the disappearances, it was smart to return to ones family and reconvene.

Rydan was out hunting with Tartarus, when he noticed that the sky was getting awfully dark, confused he looked up to see clouds swirling and angry looking, the wind was starting to pick up and belatedly he remembered his Father's warning from that morning of a big storm coming soon. Which was fine, of course, he would have plenty of time to make it home, Matori rarely had anything bigger then a mild blow, and enough rain to get the ground wet and that was about it.

He shrugged off his worry and delved deeper looking for better insects, maybe a nice lizard, he hunted himself to feed Tartarus and Tartarus did his own part to fill his belly, both had come to really enjoy the time together. Rydan had just pounced a lizard which bit him hard, making him squawk and let it go. Tartarus flew over to him but was suddenly gone in a stronger gust of wind then Rydan had ever felt. He rushed after the floating bird, it was a little bit early for flight yet.

The wind was being viscious, Ry caught Tartarus before he slammed into a tree and tucked the bird close to his body. The kinfa was too light to not be held in this nasty weather....maybe Rydan should have started to head home at the beginning of this mess. He shuddered as the rain came in a soaking curtain to dampen feathers and youngling alike.

He cried out but there was no one around to hear him, he scurried around until he found a hollow log with a hole big enought to squeeze through. Once inside he let Tartarus go. It smelled in the log, like rot and green things, outside though it was colder not cozy at all and the screeches of startled and scared animals carried for what seemed like forever. Whatever was going on out in that storm it was nasty.

His kinfa whimpered and curled up next to him, Rydan hugged him for comfort and heat, wishing he had a set of feathers himself. The wind howled and tried to rock the log, around them trees fell making them both jump. Rydan worried that one would fall on them, but so far so good. He worried too that if he moved they would be hit, so it didn't really make a difference, the log might take some of the impact depending on where a felled tree hit. He was too young to be worrying about things like this he should have just stayed closer to home like his Father had told him too now he was alone with his familiar and no comforting adult presence in a huge storm. How would he ever get out.

He wished that he could start a fire but everything was wet, the log wasn't big enough and somehow he thought that setting a fire inside wood would not be such a good idea. He was expecting to be rescued anyway, dreaming that his father would crouch by the log and lift him out. He peeked out once in a while to check.

He fell asleep eventually, exhausted when the calls he had been waiting for came. His father scooped him from the log and ran back home with him and the kinfa in tow. Looking over the broad shoulder and bulging arms holding him, he saw a tree crash on the spot where they had just been, he burried his face in his Father's chest and wept. He would have been crushed and so would Tartarus have been.

Once he was home and fed warm liquids, he passed out fast his kinfa now dried tucked by his side. He was never going outside again, he told himself.
