Uzumati was accepted - 8/04/16 Uzumati's art arrives! - 8/31/16
Posted: Wed Aug 31, 2016 5:04 pm
Name: Uzumati Stage: Stage 2 - Berserker Path Race: Leaf Gender: Male 3 Base Traits: Silent, Strong, Gruff, Loyal Personality: A very intent silent type Uzumati would much rather get things done with his hands rather than words. He actually doesn't even speak that anyone knows of so any conversations with him are rather short lived. Most likely you'll get a grunt, growl, or a nod at the best. Living on his own in Tale has taught him to approach anyone as a prey would - silent and without warning. Only through his gaze can you truly get a glimmer of emotion there.
He's very strong and often does things without hesitation. He's got the strength of a bear and doesn't hesitate to use it or show it. It also means he has a strong heart and a very stubborn spirit - if he's used to something then it better happen his way! Good luck trying to explain things to him as well as he will get frustrated easily and just simply walk away (after table flipping the project)
As mentioned above he is very gruff and abrasive. Nothing is charming about him and rather than being charming or suave about how he comes across the boy will just put out his feelings on the table. You piss him off? You get a fist in the face or he'll just leave. Bored easily enough anyone that talks his ear off will find themselves facing a blank space where he once stood. That or he'll just slam his hands down on the table before backing up and leaving....enough is enough after all.
However, for those who do worm their way into his heart the boy tends to be loyal. Those who have won his trust or have helped him before have got a good guard at their back now as he will do his utmost to protect others. Description: Lanky with lots of muscle - you can tell he'll become stockier as he ages with all that on him. He just needs to grow into it first. His skin is as dark as a leaf person's can be and his hair is a middle brown that darkens to almost black at the edges. His eyes are a yellow green while one sports scars from an encounter with a wild creature years back...Most of his gemstones are along his stomach/hipbones leaving only one tiny stone by his scars while four more circle around his other eye (one directly underneath and the other three curving up towards his eyebrow). Accessories: Just some feathers in his hair - he likes to accessorize with them and also a few furs here and there. Also has a claw necklace around his neck and a leather choker as well. History:
Born to a loving family Uzumati lost everything in a huge fire that destroyed his whole home. Scared and alone the little boy found himself just wandering Tale - as no one realized that he had survived the devastating event caused by a huge thunderstorm (so when lightening hit their home that night it went up in smoke). The river running through his homelands had also swollen up that night erasing all tracks of the little boy.
From there Uzu made his way into the darker parts of the forest where he lived for a while. Since he doesn't speak he can't recall much of it, nor does he truly remember the exact events of being adopted by a forest hermit who eventually was slaughtered before him by a rogue Alkidike extremist before the great battle that happened. The slaughter of the old man who had raised him caused such grief and agony that the boy not only lost part of his memories, but also his ability/will to speak. Afterwards he took to raising himself and became even more like a wild beast of Tale. Hunting and scavenging for his own food and even getting into fights with local wildlife for territory and his own right to live in the woods...it's caused quite a few scars here and there. At any sign of an earthling, however, the boy will scatter backwards into the darkness. Those with antenna especially terrify him as that triggers past feelings of anxiety and of loss...
But as time progressed he started to feel stronger and braver. So just recently the boy has taken to wandering further and further from the woods away from his makeshift hut. Rumors have begun to spread towards the village where his family once lived that a boy with bi-colored eyes and a wild look has been living in the deep woods. These rumors have reached an actual living relative of Uzu - his uncle, a gruff blacksmith- who began to wander towards the woods. Since it was his sister's son the male, Tarou, has taken it upon himself to 'tame' this wild spirit into becoming the boy he once knew.
It's taken some time -of leaving meals by the trees and of leaving trinkets here and there to catch the boy's interest- but Tarou has made it to the point that the boy will sit still for a few moments here and there to listen to his story. The story of two siblings who grew up in Tale and how they were raised. "Oliana and her brother Tarou later grew apart you see-" He began idly one day, "So that she could marry a hunter and have a family with him. They lived happily for a while while Tarou only visited on rare ocassions...but they had a son named Uzumati. He had these crazy bi-colored eyes due to almost losing one eye to a fire you know? It caused the one to grow lighter and I think he even was blind because of it...but this boy loved to watch me work despite all of that."
Then Uzumati would disappear for a few days and the stories would continue when Tarou finally lured him out again, "Eventually disaster struck as a horrible storm destroyed this happy family and their home. I thought they were all dead, but it seems Uzumati lived...I don't know what happened to him after that, but now I, Tarou, his uncle have heard he lives in these woods. Would you know him?"
Eventually and slowly he managed to reconnect with his lost nephew through these stories and while Uzumati is still a bit hesitant it is becoming more and more obvioust hat he's willing to leave this forest for his uncle.
Recently:
After meeting a strange girl named Ziel, Uzumati has slowly begun to begin talking again. Oddly enough though it's like teaching a newborn all over again and while his uncle does his best to 'civilize' Uzumati the man still prefers his gruff, animalistic nature.

Reflections of a Wild Man
Sitting alone on a high branch of a great tree, Uzumati stared at the sky. Meeting so many earthlings lately had gotten his memories stirring and he couldn’t help thinking over some things from his past…the last time in particular he had even allowed anyone close to him…
“Run, Uzumati, run!” The old leaf earthling waved his walking stick after the young apprentice as he darted through the woods. Those creatures were everywhere! Worse than any wild beast they were determined to burn everything in sight and his dear friend was trying to stand in their way so that Uzumati could flee and live. Tears stung at the boy’s eyes as he remembered losing others as well…his mother, his brother, and his father…all of their screams as a fire engulfed his home.
Fire which made his side ache along with the scratches from the trees that bit into his flesh as he ran. In the back of his mind the boy was still struggling to accept the fact that he had been chased away from this disaster so that he could live. Once again he was the one running while those he cherished were left behind to die. It was a suffocating feeling that made him eventually stumble forward on weary feet into a small embankment covered with vines and thorns. While the thorns tore at his clothing and even more at his skin, the boy ended up curling up tightly against the dirt wall so that the vines tumbling down over the embankment could hide him as well.
Hiding and breathing were his main focus, but even that was becoming difficult as he began to choke for air. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the air, but honestly his breathing had become so panicked and his mind so muddled that the boy was freaking out. Silent screams haunted him as he struggled against the memories battling in his mind. Being told to run by his mother who shoved him out from underneath a fallen limb – one that was so hot from the fire that it had left him with a permanent burn mark on his side – while his father had dove back in after his mother…. leaving Uzumati alone on the outside when the rest of their home collapsed.
Now he had been in the treehouse he shared with the hermit when the noises of something scurrying towards them had sounded. Large tall women with dark soulless eyes had invaded their forest and were tearing through it. Something about getting ready for a battle had been mentioned while his friend shoved him away, “Run boy!” He had called out before pushing him forward and moving to intercept those strange women.
Run…always run.
Uzumati’s mind rang with the word as he whimpered there in his hiding spot. Soon enough heavy rains washed back over the forest taking not only his tears, but most of his memories away. His mind was a mess and he gave into the relief of darkness as he passed out while cuddled and whimpering by himself in the muddy hole that he had hidden in. He was alone and scared….and he didn’t know what to do.
When the morning broke the boy would stir, but his mind would be heavy with fog. Who had he lost? Oh…sorrowful eyes gazed about the forest floor. Maybe not! Maybe the hermit had managed to fight them off! Determination shone in his gaze as Uzumati began to run – his clothing torn, his hair tangled, his body covered in dried mud and blood- through the forest. But what he came back to was a devastation.
What had been his friend was mangled and mauled. Crying, the boy grabbed the old man’s hand and laid next to him in mourning. A few hours later he would move again and dig a burial spot for the old earthling among the flower field that they loved to visit. Watching as the last piece of dirt finally fell over the body, Uzumati bowed his head. Why did he always lose those that he cared so much about?
And now a few years later he found himself bowing his head once more. Was it true that he would always lose those he cared about? I hope not… The thought one not wild and concerned about survival was surprising. Was he…thinking of others again…and actually thinking? Perhaps things were changing once more…

Tough and Rough - Class Affinity - Berserker Path
Uzumati actually enjoyed watching his uncle play with fire – err work at the forge. Tilting his head the boy would perch at a workbench and just stare at the older man worked, “Ah?” He would ask – curtesy of the woman who had begun teaching him letters the other day, as his uncle worked.
“Yes, yes. You should focus on those letters and trying to learn more. Stop watching so much.” Teased Uzumati’s uncle as he moved the steaming hot metal from the forge and dropped it into a steaming thing of water. The earthling also laughed as his nephew skirted backwards in surprise, “After all these times…you still can’t get used to me doing that?”
Uzumati just shook his head with a pout before going back to the strange swirly things that his uncle continued to torment him with. Now how did he do this….? Frowning, Uzumati simply stared at things before shaking his head. He deserved a break! Wasn’t it enough that he wasn’t completely growling or crawling over things anymore? Smacking the table with his hand to get attention the boy pointed a hand towards the door.
“Fine.” His uncle shook his head slowly, “But you’ll never learn at this rate.”
Turning his gaze away in protest, Uzumati began to go outside. It was a beautiful day with the sunlight gleaming over the land and the boy was eager to run around – almost like a pup. His attention, however, as he walked was quickly taken in by a loud ruckus happening nearby.
“Hey, hey! Why don’t you leave her alone, eh?” A young leaf girl was protesting against two older boys who were obviously surrounding one smaller girl, barely an apprentice. Her red hair was a mess while her dress was also tattered and muddy from falling – probably due to a foot stuck out in her way.
Uzumati frowned at the sight. Why did earthlings make such messes for no reason? At least when he fought with beasts they were wanting something important like food or territory. But these boys made no sense to him – why do these things? Shaking his head the boy turned on a heel as if to walk backwards, but the crying stopped him.
“Stop it!” The girl once more had darted forward while one of the boys tossed mud towards her, “Stop!”
“She ratted us out so she deserves it, back off!” One of the boys, an older apprentice with a rather gruff and bulk figure, glared towards the other girl. “Just back off won’t cha?” He shook a fist at the girl who crossed her arms stubbornly.
“I said stop it, Tyro. Leave poor Lona alone!”
“Why you on her side? Ya wanted us to get in trouble?”
“You stole from that merchant!”
“So? Not her place ta rat us out!” The boy glowered over her and raised a fist, “I’ll punish you next Moay if you don’t get out of my face!” He growled while the other boy nodded his head in confirmation. The older girl though who was defending the little one stood firm even when the threatening fist finally did approach her face…
Only to be stopped by a larger hand and a growl of warning.
Cursing the boy blinked in surprise as he came face to face with Uzumati, “Hey! Who’re you ta stick your hand in here?” He replied though there was a bit of hesitation there. “Get out of my way.” While the other boy may have taken a step back this one was a brute – someone who was not going to easily back down even with a dirty boy stopping him from getting his way.
Uzumati just shook his head towards the boy. How could he let him hit two girls who were obviously not fighters? Of course that was the tipping point for the other boy who finally let his fist swing. Uzumati may have taken the first blow in surprise, but instinct kicked in as he jumped forward with a raised fist of his own. He wouldn’t stand for this! Just like a beast fighting for territory Uzumati was fighting to protect those two girls – admittedly there was a bit of enjoyment about fighting in general, but the battle was over too soon as he watched the boys hobbling off.
“Tha-thank you.” The little girl wiping her eyes leaned against the older one, “You helped us a lot.”
Uzumati just snorted before wiping the grime from his fists. He’d given the boy a good black eye if not a nice bleeding nose as well. Still, the leaf boy couldn’t help glancing back towards the girls and offering a small smile as if it were nothing.
“Are you going to be okay?” Whispered the other girl who was holding onto her little sister, “Can you walk after…you’re bleeding!”
Uzumati just shrugged his shoulders before moving raising a hand to keep them back. The last thing he wanted was for them to worry over him. Shaking his head the boy just offered a wave before turning on his heel and walking away. Eventually he would come back to the smithy and would come face to face with his uncle who turned an interesting shade at the sight of him, “Uzumati!”
The boy offered a shy smile before finding himself being cleaned again -ugh, baths!- by his uncle who made certain to press rather firmly against his new bruises and cuts, “You just can’t behave can you?” Uzumati blinked before finally shaking his head. Yet, to his surprise he found something tossed to him – that definitely was not a new lecture. Frowning, the boy held up the pair of gauntlets and sniffed them. What were these strange things?
“If you’re going to fight you better learn to fight properly. Those seem to fit you so wear them next time – it’d be better if you didn’t crack open your knuckles every time after all.” His uncle huffed before turning his back away while Uzumati just studied the strange things.
Gauntlets…to punch with? That would definitely be useful against any beast in the woods! Or actually in his case now…anyone who wanted to fight? The thought was enough to give a rare smile to the boy’s face before trying on the things.

Class Quest!
[In this quest Uzumati realizes that he must make a decision to leave the comfort of his home to tend to his ailing uncle. He is still uncomfortable being around others but is dealing with it to spend time with his relative.]
”Look Uzumati – your uncle is here!” A vague image of a leaf woman with long curly hair and a warm smile floated past, “You can tell him all about what you’ve been learning with papa.”
“I – I can?” His own voice, a bare squeak compared to the deep guttural growls he typically made now, came out excitedly. He was a scrawny thing with large eyes and sloppy hair. Oddly amusing to think about compared to his scraggly appearance today, but still adorable in a sense? He was nervous though that much the boy remembered.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine. Don’t worry~”
And then later his uncle, a younger and robust man, would come to visit with both of his siblings climbing over him to see what the blacksmith had brought this time from town…
Stirring Uzumati rubbed the sleep from his eyes. It was strange to think about how these figments of dreams had invaded his consciousness lately. Even more so how he had gone from thoughtless sleep to troubled nightmares like these. The wild apprentice shook his head. He didn’t want to see that fire anymore yet every time a figment of the past flickered through it would end in flames.
Dreaming of the past and his uncle’s visits made him wonder. When was the last time the man visited his forest? In between all the strangers falling from trees or knocking him into bushes Uzumati had lost track. Had it been… -here he wiggled his fingers as if trying to count- so many days? The boy pouted before shaking his head. Surely it was fine. His uncle probably was busy doing…town things? What did one even do in town besides stay in those cramped buildings and interact with other earthlings? Uzumati frowned as he pondered the question. Could he be so busy as to not visit?
Did…did he dare visit?
Uzumati quickly shook his head at the thought. Never! He absolutely hated that town place – it was too crowded and all the people there overwhelmed him. It was bad enough that strangers had been trickling into his life here and there…but to go to a place full of them? “Ugh.” It was enough to send a shiver down his spine. The few times he had gone his uncle had to force him out of the woods and even then Uzumati had only lingered for a few hours before even getting into a fight once. His gaze went to those gauntlets that he wore on his arms. His uncle had gifted him such a precious thing from when he had wanted to fight. The softest of smiles flickered across the boy’s features before a rustling in the grasses made him jump backwards towards the shadows of the trees.
“I wanted to have him fix up my blades, but apparently he’s ill.”
“I know. Aren’t there other blacksmiths in the area?”
“A few villages to the west I hear, but it’s a shame. Such a long trip when he could have worked on them right now.”
“Ah, yeah. Let’s just hope he recovers then!”
Leaning forward Uzumati almost fell as the couple walked through the forest path. Who was sick? Blacksmith? Wasn’t…wasn’t that the word his uncle had been called?
I’m a blacksmith, Uzumati. Don’t you remember? Once you wanted to work with me, but now you can’t even stand to be near the fires. Shame.
Gaze widening as the pieces slowly came together the boy moved forward. His uncle was sick? What was wrong? Had he eaten the wrong thing had some beast attacked him? Growling softly Uzu gripped a branch tightly as he stopped moving. Was he going to be okay? How could he even help him? And then the worst realization came as well…his uncle was in town. In that hellish place that the boy worked so hard to avoid. And now despite everything it seemed if he wanted to check on his uncle he would have to go.
Perhaps his uncle would be fine.
Nodding as if to confirm the fact Uzumati turned back again towards the path back to his home in the deep woods. His uncle was a strong man and would come back when he felt better. There was no need to leave the comfort of the woods to go to him. He could just go and stay here and wait. Eventually the older leaf male would come…
But what if he didn’t?
If he would speak, Uzumati would have cursed at his own conscious. Did he truly have to worry like this? Life was better before his uncle came back and made him have these…feelings again. Worry, confusion, guilt, anger, and sorrow…there were just too many! Punching at the tree the boy gritted his teeth in frustration. He could turn his back now and even if his uncle didn’t survive what was it to him? This would mean that there wouldn’t be someone to claim blood to him…. he could go and live his life freely in the forest without another annoying person to worry him. It was actually tempting.
So tempting in fact that he did begin to walk away for a few moments. But then those cursed flickers of memories began to taunt him. Some of his uncle carrying him as a youngling around on his shoulders and others of him laughing with his father while his uncle and mother playfully argued. And even more recent ones of his uncle reaching a hand out to him through the trees…
Can’t you come home, Uzumati? We may be the last, but at least we have each other still.
How relieved the man had looked to see that he was actually alive. Stopping in mid-walk, Uzumati rolled his head back and let out a howl of frustration. Even beasts didn’t turn their backs on their pack mates. So how could he? Especially to a man who had so much….so much meaning to him. Family. What a scary and binding word. If only his uncle hadn’t come back to reach out for him then perhaps it would have been simple enough to fade away into the depths of the forest again, but now with these emotions stirring Uzumati had to face the reality – he wasn’t just a beast. He was an earthling with a mind and emotions….
While those who saw him on the way into town may have raised a brow, Uzumati paid them no heed as he walked through the path towards the place his uncle called home. It would take a bit of adjustment, but even Uzumati in the end may call the place home now that he had decided to stay around for a bit. Just a bit he told himself, but in the end who knew? All he knew for now was that his uncle was sick and he needed him. So through the cursed town he came.
