Asiya was born and raised in a upper class, Middle-Eastern family. As the beloved daughter to her parents, they fully expected their daughter to go into a prestigious field like medicine or something in the STEM field. Unfortunately for them, she had other plans in mind. She was drawn into the more creative field of art. Having graduated from art school, the young woman now lives on her own. She shirks the idea of having a normal 9-to-5 job, and instead just does her own thing by producing art in various mediums. As a result, this often leaves her stretched thin in ways of income, as paintings and sculptures don't always sell for lots of money. Asiya will often forgo buying groceries or other household necessities in favor of buying more art supplies. This doesn't seem to bother her much, though. Whatever she needs to do for her craft, she will do it. It's called dedication.
BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY
Asiya has, unfortunately, a bit of a strained relationship with the members of her family. They do not approve of what she does for a living and consider art to be not only a pointless profession, but also a big waste of her potential. To go along with this, her views never really meshed with her family's to begin with. They were always too traditional and old-fashioned in their beliefs. They wanted her to get married and raise a family or have a high powered career in lieu of that. And she wanted nothing to do with that. For one, she doesn't even like guys. Secondly, she wants to pursue her passion.
Due to this strained relationship, Asiya has had all ties cut off with her parents. She never gets calls or mail from them. She is never invited to family get-togethers. If she does, by chance, run into them in town, they will ignore her and act as if she isn't there. The fact that her relatives want nothing to do with her makes Asiya saddened, but what can she do? She knows they won't change, even if she tries to reach out to them. Severed ties also means that the young woman is fully on her own in terms of money or advice. This has left her life quite lonely, in all honesty. It's also difficult to make money when it's just her. Sometimes she has enough, and other times she's fighting to stay above water.
Making friends in town might prove beneficial and get rid of some of that loneliness, so she'll probably try that. As far as her family is concerned, though, she will always be viewed as the black sheep.

Hate having to rummage through your bag to find a pen? Annoyed with always having to ask for someone else to borrow one? Well, Asiya doesn't need to worry about these little problems. She always seems to have some sort of pen or writing utensil on hand in an easily accessible spot. It also seems to never run out of ink, dull (in the case of a pencil) or break. How convenient!
MAGIC MARKER
The writing utensils you always have on hand now always have an extra property: they can write on any solid surface. Glass, stone, cheese you name it -- if you can press the pen to it, it'll work! This only works when Asiya is the one doing the writing.
MY AURA HAS NEVER BEEN PINKER!
Asiya can see the auras of other people. Auras show up as rings of color around an individual. Seeing these auras doesn't let her do anything special. It just gives her information on an individual's mood/overall status. If an aura is gray, for example, Asiya might know that a person is sick. She doesn't know what they are sick with -- she just knows that something is generally not well with the person. She cannot see the auras of dead people or individuals from Other Ashdown. She can also not view multiple auras at a time. She has to focus on one person in front of her for it to work. Attempting to view multiple auras at once just ends up in sensory overload for Asiya, which generally takes the form of a migraine or severe vertigo. This ability is one that functions all the time for Asiya; she cannot turn it off.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Being of Middle-Eastern descent, Asiya has a gorgeous olive complexion. Her hair color would be a rich chocolate brown, but she always wears it covered in a fashionable headscarf. Regardless of the weather, she will always be in a headscarf and modest, long-sleeved clothing. Her eyes are hazel in color, and her face is dotted with freckles. In terms of her body type, she is a short marshmallow girl (her way of saying plus-sized). She's also fond of accessories like necklaces, rings, and bracelets. Given her love of art, it also might not be surprising to find splotches of paint, clay, markers or what have you on her clothes, hands, or face.
Asiya can mainly be found either in her apartment or in the small studio she rents out to work on art. Another place she frequents is also the local art supply store where she buys materials for her work. Her favorite mediums to work with are paints, clay, pens & pencils, digital media and papier mache.
Graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design (Go Mastadons!) Is a practicing Muslim, but prays at home rather than at a mosque. Is left-handed. Moroccan in heritage (her parents hail from Marrakesh). Speaks English, Arabic, Berber and French. Unfortunately for her parents, Asiya is a homo-romantic asexual. Her apartment appears quite cluttered to outsiders, but she knows exactly where everything is. Rants off in a foreign language when flustered or upset. Is a bit awkward/uncomfortable around men. Has a green-cheeked conure named Guava. Works from time to time at Avant-Garde, the local art-supply store. Is 24 years old. Stands at 5'2" in height. Abstains from drinking, smoking and recreational drugs.

CONSEQUENCE
Hysteria
When Asiya is triggered into feeling sad about her parents, she will no longer feel sad. Instead, she will get a case of the giggles. Soft, at first, but the longer she is exposed to whatever would've made her sad, the laughter will grow. And grow. Eventually, it turns to hysteric laughter, bowling her over in pain. When she is removed from the thought stimulus, Asiya will stop laughing.
HOWEVER- for the following day, until Asiya sleeps, she will laugh at inappropriate times. These will be sharp, uncontrollable bouts of laughter. This cannot be undone.

Abdul Nassir El-Amin | Father | 50 | Alive Asiya's father, Abdul Nassir, was a doctor back in Morocco. Although deeply patriotic and religious, he wanted a better life for his wife & child. He then brought them over to America, where he hoped things would be better for them. Her father fully hoped that his little girl would make a name for herself and be prominent as a doctor or scientist. His dreams were crushed when she went into art instead. Unsupportive of his daughter's aspirations, he has cut off all ties with her.
Khadija Al-Zahabi | Mother | 45 | Alive Asiya's mother, Khadija, was also a devout Muslim. Hailing from a Berber family, originally, she eventually settled down once she married Abdul Nassir. She has been a homemaker, predominately, though she has always been an avid weaver. Her dreams for Asiya were for her to get married to a nice Muslim man and raise a family, just as she had done. While Asiya loves her mother dearly and looks up to her, she doesn't want the life her mother wants for her. Khadija, like her husband, has severed all ties with her daughter. This seems to hurt Asiya the most.
