Aleksy opened the front door, intent on taking Laika for a walk. Then he shut the front door, walked to the back door, and opened that one too. He was in other ashdown, but he'd learned a long time ago that changes made in other ashdown would reflect across whatever dimensional divide split the real world from this misty, raining one. Hopefully Laika would see the open door and not s**t in his studio again.

That done, he went back out the front door into the rain, his clear plastic umbrella in hand and flip-flops swapped out for boots. Time to find a way out, or, failing that, see what else was up: there had been three days of fog, and now this must be the storm.

Maybe he should go look for that idiot bookseller what couldn't be bothered to just be frickin' patient.

...Maybe he shouldn't. Aleksy shouldered the umbrella and set off at a fast walk for Town Hall, figuring the giant obelisk there would serve as an adequate gathering point for anyone--or anything--else.

Bindhi had been expecting many things when she'd gotten dressed this morning. The usual, awkward and uncomfortable weekly call home to her parents for one. She'd been expecting fog for her run to the coffee shop. She'd expected to try and buckle down to do some homework.

She had not expected to blithely step out of her front door into a cold rain. Nor had she expected to see Town Hall as she looked up and pulled the door closed automatically. Since her front door normally opened onto a small path and garden, seeing the obelisk was more than a little unnerving.

Okay, it was actually kind of terrifying. Especially as her memory dredged up all the rumors that had been floating around lately. For a moment, she considered turning and trying to get back into her room. Except, this was something new, different and settled squarely into the category of adventure.

Besides, the tall blonde thought as she dashed through the rain to find shelter. What kind of journalism student would I be if i passed up this kind of story?

Finn had slept poorly, tossing and turning with vivid dreams. He'd felt the crackle in the air as soon as he woke up - there had been three days of fog, and now the storm. The light filtering through his window was a colorless sort of gray - he looked outside and couldn't even see the garage roof. It wasn't raining yet.

But you never crossed over until you actually crossed a threshold of some kind. Finn had enough experience to at least know that much.

Finn got dressed, and wrote a quick note for the couple he rented from - Had to go to work, don't worry - and left it taped to the door of his bedroom, hoping they'd see it and take it at face value. His phone still worked right now - he had a few texts that he hurriedly replied to, not knowing when he might get another chance to.

Then, he grabbed large golf umbrella and headed outside. The rain was light right now - more of a drizzle than the storm Sunny had promised - but he was certain it would get heavier. These were the outer cloud bands. It would blow in off the bay, and then...

At least the fog wasn't nearly so bad here.

I want to go where Aleksy is, he thought experimentally - if Aleksy was here, Finn needed to find him, and then they'd figure out what was going on...

His powers pulled him towards Town Hall, so that was where Finn headed. At least, he thought, tucking the umbrella under his arm, the weather was holding steady.

There was always something refreshing about rain. Sage loved it, most times, and equally loved the scent of freshly saturated earth that pervaded the air after a sudden rainfall.

There was nothing refreshing about this rain. There was nothing that Sage loved about the rain that fell around her as she stepped out of her little apartment. Usually the sound of her boots hitting the sidewalk lulled her into a peaceful sort of mood; now the noise was nothing more than a reminder of how fast she was walking.

Today she could only think about the people who had gone missing, the terrible rain that refused to stop (would it ever cease?) - and the niggling feeling that she was being watched.

"I don't like it," she muttered to herself as she approached an intersection; the crosswalk signal immediately changed in her favor. Her intent when she'd awoken that morning had been to head to Town Hall to pay her utilities - instead... well, she wasn't entirely certain what was happening.

She'd heard the rumors. She'd just chosen not to believe them, until now.

The light raindrops that hit Asiya's umbrella seemed almost hypnotic if she were being honest.

After exiting her apartment, the young woman glanced around from under the safety of her umbrella. She was looking to see if anyone else was around, and when she saw no one, immediately, she began to make her way off in the direction of town square. People could always be found there, couldn't they? It was a safe direction to walk in, at any rate. She was bound to run across someone, or at least she hoped.

Asiya was also glad for her hijab and long-sleeved clothing. Although the rain wasn't bad at the moment, there was no telling when it would take a turn for the worst. Her clothes would keep her warm and away from the chill of the water falling from above. She was grateful for that.

"This isn't so bad..." the artist murmured as she walked down the sidewalk, her shoes tapping along as she went. What did not feel too nice, however, was a strange twinge in the back of her head. Was someone watching her? Just to be sure, she looked around, and when she found no one, kept on going.

A figure came into view for her just down the way. Sage was walking, and instinctively Asiya couldn't help but call out to the other girl. "Were we supposed to get rain today? It feels like something is going on, but I can't quite place it." Wanting to be in the company of another individual, Asiya picked up her pace so that she was closer to Sage. Traveling with a companion, even if they did literally just meet, was better than being by one's self.

Sage gave Asiya a surprised sort of glance, her expression shifting from slightly worried to something that better suited her face; a smile settled comfortably upon her lips and those blue eyes brightened. Even her pace slowed almost automatically, downshifting so that the stranger could catch up.

"I'm not sure," Sage responded, her voice sounding far away even to her own ears. She glanced up at the umbrella as a particularly fat raindrop ticked against her nose. "I forgot mine," Sage gestured blandly, her smile souring just the slightest in self-deprecation. "Nothing new there," she continued as she peered up at the gray-on-gray-on-gray sky.

"It's gonna be one of them days, I think. Feels like a Monday," Sage murmured, picking up her pace just a bit once the stranger had caught up. "Sage, by the way."

Alexis Tucker is available for interaction!

Out of everything they'd been maybe-expecting when walking out of -- well. Where they'd been didn't matter in the slightest. Not anymore.

Considering, Alexis supposed, they might be dead - everything mattered a little less in comparison.

This was...like what little of their dreams they remembered, at least. Cold, and open sky, and most importantly empty - and that was good. But -- the obelisk loomed high overhead, and it was gorgeous in some weird kind of way -- and it'd be a walk, but they were patient.

Alexis was patient when they had to be. It was one of their few redeeming qualities, when they'd admit they had any at all.

(There was someone a block ahead. Alexis could see them, inasmuch as the rain was visible through - but - not any details. Only a form.)

Of all the things Erin wanted to be doing today, this was not at all on her list of things to do. The repair shop was backlogged with a spring break rush of "please fix it!" on computers, with at least four different units needing full part replacements and OS reinstalls. Not to mention the whole phone repair initiative the company was starting and all those that needed to be done as well. She'd be pulling doubles for a week just to get through the backlog.

They couldn't really rely on anyone else to get through it, either. It was at least going to be two days before anything was looked at by anyone else in the shop; Erin was the fastest tech they had, and knew the most about the common issues. Not having Erin meant unhappy customers, and stars above if they had to deal with even a single low customer review.

Stepping out into rain and a distinct feeling of not supposed to be here threw all of that out the window. Erin closed her 3DS XL and placed it in her satchel bag.

"... I've a bad feeling about this..." she muttered to herself, and the awkward nerd slowly made her way down the street, hoping beyond hope that it was just a freak rainstorm and everything would be fine and dandy when she got to work.

The eerie feeling otherness of the Town Hall was beginning to wear at Bindhi's nerves. Oh sure, she could go wandering, but under her little overhang shelter, she was at least sort of dry. Still. She was beginning to wonder if letting herself get soaked through by drizzle wasn't preferable to staying in one place and getting more and more spooked.

Her phone was in her hand as a sort of security blanket, even though it lacked a signal. As she stood around, lost in thought, the blonde was trying to piece things together. Her door had opened up and deposited her here. Not Rider-Waite. So did that mean her home was gone? The rumors only mentioned a different Ashdown. She hadn't managed to hear any stories about people getting home safely. She rather thought that if there were stories like that, there wouldn't be all those missing people.

Glancing up from her musing, she saw a tall, lanky figure approaching and, forgetting every bit of caution, waved at it.

"Hey! Over here!"

"Sage," Asiya repeated, flashing the other girl a gentle smile. "That's a nice name. I'm Asiya." The hijabi extended out her hand politely, offering it to Sage if she was so inclined to shake it. If she wasn't, then that was fine as well. It was the polite thing to do, and that was what mattered.

Asiya fell into step with her new-found companion and then quirked a brow once she noticed something. Sage had a splotch of paint on her face -- similar to the ones that dotted her own clothes in various places. The sight of it made her smile, and she couldn't help but ask a curious, "Are you a painter, by chance?" If she was an artist, that would be an odd, but welcomed coincidence. Her artist friends were few and far between since moving back to Ashdown; all of the main ones she had were back at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

On the off-chance that she was a painter, Asiya went on to add, "I'm an artist, myself. It'd be nice to make more friends in the area." The feeling of being watched seemed to fade as she spoke with Sage. She was grateful for that, in all honesty. Talking to someone else distracted her from the peculiar feeling, and that was more than welcomed.

Squinting, Asiya pointed off in the distance. Erin was nearby, and perhaps she had a better idea of what was going on. "Hello over there -- any idea on what's going on?" Erin probably had no idea, either, but hey -- it was worth a shot.

Surely, someone had to know, right?

Sage's eyes widened briefly at Asiya's query, brows lifting curiously.

"I do," she replied. Wiping back an errant drop of rainwater that wibbled precariously at the tip of her nose, Sage let out a thoughtful hum. "Windows." The word was almost a sigh as she watched Asiya point towards Erin, a look of unease etched across her features. The rain was wet, her clothes were damp, her thick curls were sticking to the back of her neck and she still felt like she was being watched.

"Friends are good," Sage continued in her soft whisper of a voice as the two drew up on Erin. Trailing off, Sage fell silent.

The rain reminded Ves of home. And not in a good way. Uncomfortable, out of place... She hadn't felt like this since she'd left the trailer park and never looked back.

She couldn't quite suppress a shiver as she walked, wondering where she was meant to go. Clearly... well. Clearly this wasn't quite normal.

She'd meant to go to the little pad where she met Donald once or twice a week. Meant to go and make him smile like his wife apparently couldn't - the guy deserved some happiness. Maybe.

But that wasn't in her cards today. Not here. And Ves followed her feet until she noticed a vaguely familiar figure on the road behind her. A friend?

"Hey!" She said, a little frantically to Alexis. "It's you! From the animal shelter. Are you... uh. Am I the only one uncomfortable with all this rain?"

Leslie was forever late to everything and apparently he was even late to whatever this was.

Honestly the forecast hadn't called for this big of a storm, had it? He paused and let his brows knit a bit before grabbing a coat from the rack next to the door. Well, time to figure out what was happening. Town Hall... maybe that'd be good? There had to be people there. He took a breath and headed out into the fog with his coat firmly around his slender figure. He was also armed with an umbrella and not much else.

Who knew what would happen when he went there.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 19, 2016 8:06 pm

He awoke to the sound of something tapping against the front windows. It was no more or less alarming than the various bangs and hisses that sounded anywhere else throughout the apartment, so Rabbit's immediate reaction was to curl into the nearest cushion and go back to sleep.

When he awoke the second time, it was because things had gone eerily silent. While his memory was hardly the most reliable thing about him, he was still about 94% positive that he had left Olivia on the sofa with him last night. Now, she was gone. It wasn't inconceivable that she and her relatively impressive biceps might have gone on with their day in spite of him, but she wouldn't have done so without her chair. He poked its arm with a toe, sending it rolling back a half a foot.

"Liv?"

No answer.

Rabbit got to his feet and stretched, back cracking in a muffled series of pops. He searched all three of the rooms in the house, and finding no sign of his sister, finally let himself panic a little. If she wasn't here, then she had to be out in the fog, and if she was out in the fog, he had to go get her. He crossed to the kitchen and filled a flask as quickly as he could, grabbing a hoodie and pulling on some sneakers before opening the front door.

The fog had finally broken. Rabbit stepped out onto the landing, immediately regretting that he hadn't chosen an actual coat that might keep him dry. He turned back. The door was standing open, but the apartment was no longer his. It looked like it in theory, but even he wasn't that shitty of a tenant.

What in the ******** was going on here?

Living in Ashdown for three years, Rabbit had been privy to rumors of strange happenings that never amounted to anything for long enough to build up a hearty suspicion of the truth of them. In that instant, looking in at an apartment that had gone from livable to destitute in the time it had taken him to turn around, he became a believer anyway.

There was nothing to do but explore, so he shoved his shaking hands into his armpits to ward off the chill and headed out into the mist.

Aleksy stopped beneath the obelisk. For whatever reason, Laika had never been able to see the otherworld; she was safe enough. And by long agreement with Finn, Aleksy was going to stay put and wait. If Finn was here, and he almost always was, he'd find Aleksy and then find the way out.

Aleksy waited, tapping his fingers against his knee. Using his phone would only drain the battery anyway, since there was no reception of any kind.

Finn would come around soon enough.
